• What are the differences between MBR vs GPT vs any other partition scheme?

  Can anyone tell me what the main differences between i.e. MBR vs GPT or any other partition scheme are? Why would one choose one over the other? I am not an expert but from new release of Mac OS X which includes a feature called Time Machine, which I find highly useful. GPT is the requirement for Mac OS X Lion ... so on this basis I would say that GPT is more useful than MBR. What other partition schemes are there and which one should be used in which situation?

• Why is Wifi data transfer is slow?

  I have a wifi router which was attached with my modem, and the pc was connected to the wifi router through an ethernet cable. Yesterday I moved my modem and router to another room and connected my PC with wifi through an external wifi usb dongle (tp-link tl-w722n). I noticed that the file transfer speed from my cell to PC via wifi is greatly affected. I am not clear why is this happening because although PC is now connected through wifi but the dongle supports more than 54Mbps which is still enough.

• Untar after uploading to linux from windows

  I have created tar.gz from my linux server, and I downloaded the same to my linux system and I successfully doen untar with tar -xvf package.tar.gz. And now my issue I downloaded same package.tar.gz to the windows system then uploaded to another linux server, and tried same command tar -xvf package.tar.gz. but it getting tar: This does not look like a tar archive tar: Skipping to next header tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors as response. I also tried filezill manual trnasfer with binary mode. How can I do the same ? Update When I directly download to the linux system its working fine. When I downloaded to the windows system and try to extract with 7zip or winrar error is getting When I download to windows and upload to linux same error getting

• GRUB error: unknown filesystem

  I replaced my old laptop drive which was win7 and ubuntu dual boot with an SSD. Now I connected the old drive through a USB adapter and I want to boot from it. But this comes up: unknown filesystem grub rescue> As i need the programs from old drive I have to boot from it time to time and I don't want to install those software on the new drive. It takes so time to exchange the drives so I want to boot from USB. how can I fix this?

• Scan dis problem on xp

  hi, I have four drives on my computer. The problem is that each time i start a computer the scan disk check runs for a drive even if i shut down my computer properly. I ran the thorough scandisk check but still for that drive, the scandisk check is always performed no matter what. I wonder what is wrong although everything is fine and accessible along with drive data. Could you guys please help me out of this? I am using Windows XP SP2. Thanks

  Everything was working fine until this moment I want to create a new database and I'm receiving this error db_create.php: Missing parameter: new_db (FAQ 2.8) Also when I was trying to export my database I also receive the following error export.php: Missing parameter: what (FAQ 2.8) export.php: Missing parameter: export_type (FAQ 2.8) When I looked it FAQ 2.8 from the suggested link in PHPMYADMIN 2.8 I get "Missing parameters" errors, what can I do? Here are a few points to check: In config.inc.php, try to leave the $cfg['PmaAbsoluteUri'] directive empty. See also FAQ 4.7. Maybe you have a broken PHP installation or you need to upgrade your Zend Optimizer. See http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=31134. If you are using Hardened PHP with the ini directive varfilter.max_request_variables set to the default (200) or another low value, you could get this error if your table has a high number of columns. Adjust this setting accordingly. (Thanks to Klaus Dorninger for the hint). In the php.ini directive arg_separator.input, a value of ";" will cause this error. Replace it with "&;". If you are using Hardened-PHP, you might want to increase request limits. The directory specified in the php.ini directive session.save_path does not exist or is read-only. I did tried with php.ini to make sure that I've session.save_path = "/tmp" I'm using Mac Xserver and running with MAMP I did tried everything to restart my server and nothing help. • issue with eclipse after checking out project from svn

  After checking out a project from SVN, I am getting the following prompt in eclipse any time I try to change anything in the code: The compilation unit is not in the build path of the project There is no Java build path option when I right click on the project. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or fix the issue will be greatly appreciated. Note: I tried changing the project file manually but now my project files are being displayed in separate directories inside the trunk.

• Hardware doesn't work some times

  I have an Asus n51vf laptop. I bought it not long time ago (less than a month) and installed Windows 7 on it. Since that it wasn't new when I bought it, I don't know, if the problem was occuring before re-installing Windows 7. There are two problems, that might (or might not) have something to do with each other: Problem The less annoying problem is that the screen flickers ONLY on YouTube when scrolling and/or pausing/playing the video or moving the curser over the video. The second more timeconsuming problem is that some of the hardware doesn't work when I turn up the computer. Then I have to reboot the computer and try again. Example: I turn on the computer, and the touchpad doesn't work - I then reboot and it works again. This has so far happened to the screen (leading to a black screen), the keyboard and the touchpad. More frequently the mouse. What have I tried to do so far? I tried reeinstalling the touchpad driver (Synaptic Touchpad driver from Asus Support Page) - didn't help at all. I even tried reinstalling the driver when the non-responding mouse on startup-problem occured (using the keyboard), but it asked me to reboot and didn't help at all. I also installed (and reinstalled) the graphics driver; it's a GeForce GT 130M. Now, the problem never occurs spontaneously - it only appears when booting my computer. I can even use the computer for heavy tasks (games, multiple programs running etc.) with no problem at all. I suspect, that the problem is in some booting mechanism that fails: Maybe the Windows driver loading? Motherboard problems?

• How to change permission of my centos if I don't have the root password?

  I've setup server on mac using virtualbox and my server is centos. but the guy who did it for me he forgot the root password that he setup at the beginning and what happen now is my website have a lot of problem due to the permission issues.   I want to let my IAM users to setup their own MFA devices, through the console, is there a single policy that I can use to achieve this? So far I can achieve this through a number of IAM policies, letting them list all mfa devices and list users (so that they can find themselves in the IAM console and ... I am basically looking for a more straight forward way of controlling this. I should add that my IAM users are trusted users, so I don't have to (although it will be quite nice) lock them down to the minimum possible, so if they can see a list of all users that is ok.

  I have created a domain on server machine and when i am trying to join a domain through another machine of windows 7 through the following steps: Goto MY Computer Properties - Change settings - ComputerName - click on change button - click on radio button "Domain" and enter domain name. After that when i click on OK button and enter the username and password credentials. It show me the following error: An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a domain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain

  I have a domain controller running on Windows 2008 Server R2 and users login to application servers on which Windows 2003 Server SP2 is installed. I have applied a Group Policy to clean temporary internet files on exit i.e to delete all temporary internet files when users close the browser. But the group policy doesn't seem to work as user profile size keeps on increasing and the major space is occupied by temporary internet files therefore increasing the disk usage. How can i enforce automatic deletion of temporary internet files?

• OpenBSD in a virtual box as a firewall

  Is there any merit in installing a virtual machine with OpenBSD and pf (or any other simple and secure OS + iptable) on a mac laptop and routing all the traffic through that machine? I read a similar set up for corporate laptops running windows (I thing I read this in BSD magazine). They claim that Windows machines are too hard to secure and if you are taking them to the wild (public wireless, hotels, ...) you'd better but a secure OS in between! If you think this is a good idea, how you route all the traffic on a mac through the virtual machine and prevent any application or service to go directly? I am not sure if just setting the gateway will do that, what about DNS? you don't want anybody to fool you with DNS cache poisoning or similar attacks either.

• Dual-booting Ubuntu and Pardus with GRUB2...Pardus no show?

  Hello all, I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed and used to dual-boot Fedora, but I replaced Fedora with Pardus. After the install, I went into ubuntu, and did a sudo update-grub. It detected my Pardus 2011 install there. When I rebooted, it did not show up in my grub2 menu however. I went back to Ubuntu and did it again...then checked the grub.cfg, and it is not there. I have read that Pardus uses a grub legacy. How can I get Pardus into my grub2 menu? • resize image without image quality reduction

  In web design , it's usually needed to design an image for example in Photoshop and then use multiple sizes of it. but I don't understand something here : When I resize the image (PNG or JPG) and reduce the dimensions of that in Photoshop , the image quality extremely gets reduced and the edges become messy while resizing the image in a simple software like Microsoft Paint gives a really better output! So what's the reason ? Is there a trick in Photoshop for image resizing which I've missed? Thanks for your help. UPDATE: I resize in this way : image image size , then enter new dimensions , all of checkboxes are checked , and have tried all of resample modes including Bicubic sharper
