  • How to implement a SIMPLE "You typed ACB, did you mean ABC?"

    I know this is not a straight up question, so if you need me to provide more information about the scope of it, let me know. There are a bunch of questions that address almost the same issue (they are linked here), but never the exact same one with the same kind of scope and objective - at least as far as I know. Context: I have a MP3 file with ID3 tags for artist name and song title. I have two tables Artists and Songs The ID3 tags might be slightly off (e.g. Mikaell Jacksonne) I'm using ASP.NET + C# and a MSSQL database I need to synchronize the MP3s with the database. Meaning: The user launches a script The script browses through all the MP3s The script says "Is 'Mikaell Jacksonne' 'Michael Jackson' YES/NO" The user pick and we start over Examples of what the system could find: In the database... SONGS = {"This is a great song title", "This is a song title"} ARTISTS = {"Michael Jackson"} Outputs... "This is a grt song title" did you mean "This is a great song title" ? "This is song title" did you mean "This is a song title" ? "This si a song title" did you mean "This is a song title" ? "This si song a title" did you mean "This is a song title" ? "Jackson, Michael" did you mean "Michael Jackson" ? "JacksonMichael" did you mean "Michael Jackson" ? "Michael Jacksno" did you mean "Michael Jackson" ? etc. I read some documentation from this /how-do-you-implement-a-did-you-mean and this is not exactly what I need since I don't want to check an entire dictionary. I also can't really use a web service since it's depending a lot on what I already have in my database. If possible I'd also like to avoid dealing with distances and other complicated things. I could use the google api (or something similar) to do this, meaning that the script will try spell checking and test it with the database, but I feel there could be a better solution since my database might end up being really specific with weird songs and artists, making spell checking useless. I could also try something like what has been explained on this post, using Soundex for c#. Using a regular spell checker won't work because I won't be using words but names and 'titles'. So my question is: is there a relatively simple way of doing this, and if so, what is it? Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I am implementing a matrix convolution blur on the iPhone. The following code converts the UIImage supplied as an argument of the blur function into a CGImageRef, and then stores the RGBA values in a standard C char array.   • Excel 2007 Conditional Formatting is not properly using custom formula provided

    In Excel 2007, I want to conditionally color a row if it is odd numbered and then vary the coloring depending on if a specific cell (in column E) in that row contains a number (green) or empty(red). E.g. if E15 has a value of 2 and E13 has no entry, I would expect row 15 to be green and row 13 to be red. My two formulas are: To color red: =IF((MOD(ROW(),2) = 1),NOT(ISNUMBER(INDIRECT("$E$"&ROW()))), FALSE) To color green: =IF((MOD(ROW(),2) = 1),ISNUMBER(INDIRECT("E"&ROW())), FALSE) If I paste these formulas into cells on the worksheet I get the expected values. For row 15 the "red" equation is false and the "green" equation is true. For Row 13 the "red" equation is true and the "green equation is false. However if I use these formulas in the conditional formating use formula feature, all of my rows are red, any thoughts?

  • Explaining the difference between OData & RDF by way of analogy

    A couple of months back I wrote a blog post entitled Microsoft, OData and RDF where I gave a high level view of the OData protocol and how it compares to RDF. I talked about linked data, triples and such like which may have been somewhat useful however jargon-heavy. Earlier today Dr Michael Hausenblas (blog | twitter) offered an analogy which I think is probably more useful and with Michael's permission I'm re-posting it here:Imagine a Web (a Web of Documents, if you wish), which is not based on HTML and hyperlinks, but on MS Word documents. The documents are all available on the Internet, so you can download them and consume the content. But after you’re done with a certain document that talks about a book, how do you learn more about it? For example, reviews about the book or where you can purchase it? Maybe the original document mentions that there is some more related information on another server. So you’d need to go there and look for the related bit of information yourself. You see? That’s what the Web is great at – you just click on a hyperlink and it takes you to the document (or section) you’re interested in. All the legwork is taken care of for you through HTML, URIs and HTTP.Hm, right, but how is this related to OData? Well, OData feels a bit like the above mentioned scenario, just concerning data.   • Conky to Monitor WLS Managed Servers

    I've been using a little utility on my linux-based machines for years called conky.  It can be used to monitor system resources, but I wanted to modify it to monitor my WebLogic managed servers too. Once installing conky, you'll need to update the .conkyrc file.  Here is a simple example. Basically, the important lines are these: - Admin (7001) ${if_empty ${exec /usr/sbin/lsof -i :7001 | grep LISTEN}}${color red}DOWN${color} ${else}${color green} UP ${color}(${tcp_portmon 7001 7001 count}) ${endif} - OSB (8011) ${if_empty ${exec /usr/sbin/lsof -i :8011 | grep LISTEN}}${color red}DOWN${color} ${else}${color green} UP ${color}(${tcp_portmon 8011 8011 count}) ${endif} - BAM (9001) ${if_empty ${exec /usr/sbin/lsof -i :9001 | grep LISTEN}}${color red}DOWN${color} ${else}${color green} UP ${color}(${tcp_portmon 9001 9001 count}) ${endif} - DB (1521) ${if_empty ${exec /usr/sbin/lsof -i :1521 | grep LISTEN}}${color red}DOWN${color} ${else}${color green} UP ${color}(${tcp_portmon 1521 1521 count}) ${endif} It uses lsof to find out if ports are in use.   • Game works on netbeans but not outside netbeans in jar file?

    I am creating a basic game of 'Pong'. I have finished the game apart from a few glitches I need to remove. The game runs perfectly in netbeans but if I create a jar file errors come up causing it to not work. I am quite new to java but I believe it is something to do with my code looking for the images but the images have not been loaded up yet. Here is the error. How can I get this to work outside of netbeans in a jar file?   • DPM - Monitoring is green, Protection has error and Latest rec point is old. How do I interpret that?

    How do I read the DPM info in this case? Monitoring says Failed but Protection shows Ok while having a Latest recovery point from last year. Under Monitoring tab I have Failed for Source | Computer | Protection group | Start time Computer\System Protection | MyServerName | Recovery point | 2014-06-09 19:00:00 which shows me that something happened last night. But under Protection tab everything is green. Here I have Protection group member | | Protection status Protection group ..name.. Computer: MyServerName Computer\System protection Bare metal recovery OK ... Latest recovery point: 2013-12-12 06:32:54 My guess is that backup failed last night once, but succeeded later. It then found out that there hasn't been any change since sometime last year and leave it be and flags Ok.

    I can't add any PPA's at all after reinstalling Ubuntu 13.10. Here is what it says: michael@MikesKomputer:~$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:atareao/atareao Cannot add PPA: 'ppa:atareao/atareao'. Please check that the PPA name or format is correct. This repository is working as far as I know. The problem is that I can't add any new repositories. Even if I can use the Software Center, I can't have my system with the add-apt-repository command broken.
