  • Logitech Media Elite Func button

    I have the aforementioned keyboard, and occasionally the "Func" key will get unpressed. It gets especially annoying when I try to rename a file, and start winword by accident, or try to refresh a page, and nothing happens (It's the undo - no effect inside a browser usually). I know I can rebind those keys to just do nothing, but I just wanted to know why does the func mode changes by itself? Can it be something with power management/screen saver?

  • HP MSR 30-10a Router - Route Traffic over Default Route

    We have a brand new HP MSR 30-10a Router. We have a fairly simple routing situation - we have two IP blocks, one which has a route out. We need things on the first block to go through the router, and out. I have an old Cisco 2801 router doing the job right now. For our example - IP Block 1: 50.203.110.232/29, Router interface on this block is 50.203.110.237, route out is 50.203.110.233. IP Block 2: 50.202.219.1/27, Router interface on this block at 50.202.219.20. I have a static route created for: 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 50.203.110.233 The router seems to understand this. When on the CLI via serial cable, I can ping 8.8.8.8 and hear responses from Google DNS. Woo hoo! The issue arrives when any client sits on the IP Block 2 side. I configured my client with a static IP of 50.202.219.15/27, default gateway 50.202.219.20. I can ping myself. I can ping the near side of the router (50.202.219.20), and I can ping the far side of the router (50.203.110.237. I cannot ping anything else in IP block 1, nor can I ping 8.8.8.8.   • Preventing folders from being moved in Outlook folder list

    In the Outlook "folder list", it is quite easy to accidentally pickup a folder and move that into another folder. There is no undo for this, and I have not found a way to prevent this. I thought it was just me, but I recently saw a coworker do the same thing while filing mail via drag and drop. We are using Exchange 2003 and Outlook 2007.

  • "Back" command for org-mode

    When I type C-c C-v to see the list of TODOs, or C-/ m to see headlines with a certain tag, org-mode shows me a sparse tree with the results. How do I then go back to seeing the tree the way it was before I issued this command? Note that I haven't changed the file in any way, so this isn't your normal "undo", it's about going back to how org-mode was displaying the tree before.

  • System Reserved partition no longer marked as System

    I recently posted a question to Super User about accidentally marking my external HDD's partition as Active and how I could undo my accidental mistake. I followed the instructions provided and they worked fine. This involved some command line magic and from what I understand, I did not have to really do this, but I just wanted to get things back to how they were originally. After making the fix things went back to normal in disk management. After I restarted my computer though i had an issue: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart Rugh roh! I brought my laptop to work so I could search for a solution on my work computer and I found a nice guide on fixing the issue. To summarize the instructions, I had to reboot with my Windows 7 install disc and click the Repair button. Once there I could then repair the start-up options. One of the commenters on the site claimed you need to do this twice, as the first time the "repair" doesn't actually fix it. I found this to be true as well. I tried to repair it and it did some work, then rebooted. I then got the same error again. I booted from the CD again and repaired the start-up options then after this second time Windows started to boot up. Before the restart I got a nice info window telling me that it did make repairs to the boot info (this was promising). I've been using Windows 7 for a few days now with no problem, but I just recently noticed that I now can see the System Reserved partition in Computer: (click for full size) I immediately went to disk management to see what was up. I noticed that my System Reserved partition is no longer marked as System and instead I believe the repair operation made my C: drive the system partition. I'm not fully aware of what the System partition really is but I briefly read that its a Windows 7 thing that gets created on install of Win7 that writes some BitLocker encryption stuff to a isolated partition as well as some boot files. (click for full size) How can I undo this and make the System Partition marked as System instead of my OS C: partition? How can I make it so that I don't see this partition in Computer (I believe fixing #1 will fix this) What are the implications of what the current state is and the fact that I can now browse into this new partition?   • using Intellimouse in Parallels 5

    I'm running Win7 in Parallels 5 and have a five button USB mouse (Microsoft Intellimouse). I have my mouse's side buttons mapped to the Forward and Back (browser) commands. However, Parallel's Mouse Synchronization Service seems to be intercepting the mouse keypress event for these two buttons, and remapping them to the Windows Start Menu command. Any way to undo this? i.e. get my Back/Forward buttons working again?

  • Parameter _rollback_segment_count can cause trouble

    Just some weeks ago we've learned that setting the hidden underscore parameter: _rollback_segment_count may cause trouble during upgrade. This parameter is used in very rare cases to have under all circumstances and situations this specified number of UNDO's online. Now during upgrade this may result in massive latch contention due to bug14226559 - and there's a patch available as well. Recommendation is to unset it during upgrade. I don't think that many people will hit this as I personally haven't seen databases with this underscore in their init.ora or spfiles. So take this post more or less as a reminder for myself

  • What to do with database in dev/production phases of a website?

    For a while now I've been keeping a website I'm developing in the standard dev/production phases. Its been pretty simple: Mercurial repo for dev, repo for production. Do work in dev, get approved, push to production. But now I'm trying to apply this process to a new website that has a database and am struggling on how to figure out a development strategy. What I didn't mention above is that I do all my work on my own repo, push it to dev, then later push it to production, so its 3 different servers. So how do I manage my database? The obvious solution of mysqldump every commit isn't going to happen, and a dump at the end of the day isn't all that helpful when you want to undo later one change that happened in the middle of the day. What is the best way to accomplish this?

  • Distributed Transaction Framework across webservices

    I am designing a new system that has one central web service and several site web services which are spread across the country and some overseas. It has some data that must be identical on all sites. So my plan is to maintain that data in the central web service and then "sync" the data to sites. This includes inserts, edits and deletes. I see a problem when deleting, if one site has used the record, then I need to undo the delete that has happened on the other servers. This lead me to idea that I need some sort of transaction system that can work across different web servers. Before I design one from scratch, I would like to know if anyone has come across this sort of problem and if there are any frame works or even design patterns that might aid me?

  • Unable to log in to ubuntu server 10.04 after trying to join windows domain

    I was trying to join our ubuntu 10.04 server to the windows domain and I ended up editing the pam.d configuration files. My aim was to have domain users log into the ubuntu server with their domain accounts in order to access some applications instead of creating new unix users each time. My system admin says the join was successful to the domain. Now I have no way of logging into the sever. Is there a way I can undo everything and get the server back to the original login using the local account? I will also appreciate if someone pointed me to some configuration that actually worked - I am still willing to try and make it work.

  • Windows 7 Virtual PC - &ldquo;RPC server unavailable&rdquo;

    I use Windows 7 Virtual PC on my current project and I often bring home the files, so I can work some in the evenings.  Since my VHDs are large, I’ll only copy the undo disks, saved state, and virtual machine config files from my external drive.  I copy them to a small portable drive and once I get home, I’ll copy them to a large external drive. I’ve done this for over a year, but recently I started getting an error when I tried to start the VPC after the copying was finished.  It would open the initial window with the progress bar, but eventually the bar would stop, turn red, and then the error “RPC server unavailable” would appear.  When I first started seeing these, I’d try again, but no luck. After some testing, it turns out that my small portable drive is apparently going bad, so it was corrupting the files.  Lucky for me, that I never overwrote my good copies with corrupted copies, at least not at both the office and at home.

  • useradd instead of adduser,

    So I installed Ubuntu 13.04, set up sftp, that's all good. Setting up vsftpd for regular FTP users (we need those too, sadly. sftp isn't for good for all our purposes), i accidently used useradd to create one of the users instead of adduser. This user can't log in to frig all. I tried to delete the user and re-add it with adduser, no dice. It creates the user, but the permissions are frigged up. Any idea how I can completely undo a useradd, so that I can adduser this person and have everything coming up Milhouse again? Sorry boys, I frigged up hard.

    Everytime I connect my pc to my tv using my HDMI cable (to watch my movies), I have to manually go to: 1- Monitors, to select "mirror" screen to HDMI 2- Sound, to select the HDMI as default sound output 3- Screen Off an Lock, to avoid screen locking while watching a video. Is there a way I can automate this? Or at least write a script with commands that will do this. (I could manually run a script every time I connect my HDMI, and then run annother one to undo the changes later) How can I do these actions from a Command Line?

  • Change screen resolution from terminal

    When I enabled my Nvidia graphics card, it changed the resolution of my screen to larger than my screen. As the result I cannot access any functions that were previously on the right side of my screen. How do I undo this? I originally had 8.04 and was able to change the resolution to whatever I wanted. I'm a new user and can copy and paste commands from a post to terminal mode but that's about it. I have no idea what they are or what they mean.
