  • Creating a FAT file system and save it into a file in GNU/linux?

    - by RubenT
I tell you my problem: I want to create a FAT file system and save it into a so I can mount it in linux using something like: sudo mount -t msdos <file> <dest_folder> Maybe I'm wrong and this cannot be done. Anyway, the problem is this: I'm trying to create the file containing a FAT file system, and I'm running this command: sudo mkfs.vfat -F 32 -r 112 -S 512 -v -C "test.fat" 100 That, accordingly to the mkfs man page, will create a FAT32 file system with 112 rootdir entries, logical sector size of 512 bytes, 100 blocks in total, and save it into "test.fat". But it fails, and the bash tells me: mkfs.vfat: unable to create test.fat What is going on? I think I am misunderstanding how mkfs works and how to use it. It is possible to write a filesystem into a file?

  • Permission forbidden on localhost with apache2

    - by N Alex
Here is what I am trying to do. I tried to add another folder to apache and I get the following error when trying to acces testing/index.html. The idea is that I would like to have for every customer a folder like /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/[PROJECT NAME]/CustomerProjects/website/dist. Forbidden You don't have permission to access /index.html on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at testing Port 80 Here are the steps that I followed: Step1: sudo chmod a+x /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/testing/CustomerProjects/website/dist Step2: sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/testing/CustomerProjects/website/dist sudo chmod -R 775 /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/testing/CustomerProjects/website/dist Step3: sudo adduser $USER www-data Step4: sudo a2enmod userdir Step5: sudo cp /etc/apache/sites-available/default /etc/apache/sites-available/testing I edited the file /etc/apache/sites-available/testing so it looks like this: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost ServerName testing DocumentRoot /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/testing/CustomerProjects/website/dist <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /home/neagoe/Work/InterWebs/Projects/testing/CustomerProjects/website/dist/ > Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride All Order allow, deny allow from all </Directory> ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ <Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin"> AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg. LogLevel warn CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined </VirtualHost> Step6: I edited hosts ("/etc/hosts") so it looks like this: 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 testing # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts ::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback fe00::0 ip6-localnet ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix ff02::1 ip6-allnodes ff02::2 ip6-allrouters Step7: sudo a2ensite testing sudo service apache2 restart I searched for about 2 hours on the internet but I can't figure out what went wrong. All the pages that I found following the same steps as described above. I know there are similar questions here on the internet, but the answer is to change permission to the directory which I did on Step2. I am sorry if this is really a duplicate but I could't find the right answer. Thank you! PS. I asked this also on AskUbuntu but didn't get any answers so I'm trying my luck here. Edit: There isn't much on the error log or the access log. • DIY Homemade Hybrid Rocket Engine [Video]

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
Remember the guy with the cool DIY astronaut ice cream build? He’s back with a mini hybrid rocket engine that runs off oxygen and acrylic. I built a small rocket engine for demonstration purposes. The engine is built from a 2″ diameter acrylic rod through which I drilled a 0.5″ hole. The oxygen at 80 psi or less is passed through the hole and then is forced through a convergent-divergent nozzle at the tail end. The nozzle’s throat is about 0.25″ and expands to 0.625″. I lit the engine by inserting a burning cotton swab (with wooden stick) while a small amount of oxygen was flowing. The acrylic catches fire very easily in a pure oxygen environment. The engine can be throttled and shut off completely, which is a major benefit to hybrid engine designs. Solid-fuel rockets cannot be throttled or shut off, which makes them difficult to control. • Silent and scripted install of CPAN and Perl modules?

    - by Mikael Grönfelt
I need to install CPAN and some Perl modules automatically in a Scientific Linux (RHEL) installation script. Unfortunately the specific modules I want (at least one of them) cannot be found as RPM:s as far as I've seen. So I need to install CPAN, configure it automatically (or with a config file) and then install the wanted modules (including dependencies) automatically as well. This doesn't seem like a very unusual requirement, but I haven't seen any really good documentation on this. The problem is that whenever CPAN is launched for the first time an interactive configuration runs. Can this be skipped somehow? And how do I launch module installations directly from the command line?

  • How to force-restart a PC with vPro technology?

    - by Dan Nissenbaum
I would like to know how to force-restart a PC that has crashed/hung and become completely non-responsive, using 2nd-generation vPro technology. Assume there is a second, fully responsive PC on the same LAN that can be accessed remotely to assist. Specifically, I am considering purchasing a PC with an i7-2860QM CPU, which is vPro-enabled (according to Intel). Here are two links that indicate it should be possible to force-restart a hung system with a 2nd-generation vPro-enabled CPU: Seconds 24-39 of What Is Intel vPro™ Technology? Page 17 (21 of the PDF) of Intel® vPro™ Technology: Reference Guide However, after extensive research, I cannot find a straightforward and trustworthy source of confirmation that this will actually work as I describe, or any documentation about how to set it up. I would appreciate both a reliable confirmation, and a source of documentation. This question is a follow-up to: Wake-on-LAN (WOL) fails after computer crashes (Windows 7 64-bit).

  • How to restore a windows 7 system from a secondary drive

    - by Klas Mellbourn
I have a stationary computer with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. The primary (SSD) hard drive seems to have stopped working completely, it is not even visible in BIOS. The computer has a secondary hard drive (non-SSD, NTFS, 2TB). I have had Windows backup running and saving backups to that secondary drive. I am planning to buy a new SSD drive to replace the faulty one. I want to restore the backup to this new SSD drive. What is the most straightforward way to do this? A step-by-step description would be greatly appreciated. Further information: I have a Windows install DVD and the computer has a DVD-drive. The secondary drive is not bootable, so I cannot currently access it. The new SSD drive will probably not be identical to the original, so it might need different drivers

  • Using SQL Server specific code in Access linked to SQL Server database

    - by Brennan Vincent
Hi, I have an access file that is linked (through an ODBC connection) to a SQL Server 2008 database. I am trying to write some reports against this database. However, Access chokes when I write the select query of the report with SQL syntax specific to SQL Server that doesn't exist in access. Shouldn't this work, since it's the SQL Server engine running the queries and just sending the data back to Access to display? Is there any way to get this to work? Need this to work on any combination of Access 2007 and 2010, and SQL Server 2005 and 2008. Edit Note: I cannot create a SQL Server stored procedure or function, or otherwise modify the original (SQL Server) schema in any way.

  • Adding a custom document template to the document Library

    - by ybbest
After you create a SharePoint document library, you can start creating document based on the default document template. If you like to add you own custom template, you can easily achieve this by creating a SharePoint solution using visual studio. In this post, I’d like to show how to add a custom document template to the SharePoint document Library. You can download the complete source code here. 1. Create Empty SharePoint solution, creating a document library called “YbbestCustomDocLib” and adding a Module with a word document template called FAX.dotx 2. Modify the Elements.xml file in the module FROM TO 3. Finally, you need to create feature receiver to configure the Document TemplateUrl property of the document library. You can download the complete source code here.

  • junior / professional / senior categorization

    - by oozoo
Hey guys, is it just me or is the categorization of developer levels highly subjective? I get the feeling that every company tries to hire experienced developers as juniors because they don't know $technology. For example my own career: I switched technologies a couple of times, while sticking to java as a programming language. For example I first worked for 3 years using JavaSE technologies, the next company I worked for hired me as junior because I didn't have JavaEE experience - while still selling me as professional level to customers (I work in consulting). The next company hired me again as junior because I didn't have SAP experience - they mostly work with SAP Java technologies which is definitely a niche. Still, they are selling all their technology consultants for exactly the same rate while paying them significantly different wages. Now when switching jobs again I feel like this whole thing is going to start all over again because I don't have Spring experience or Oracle knowledge. tl;dr = is my observation totally off base that companies are just using these categorizations as means to keep down wages?

  • Mountain Lion fails to connect to Windows share after the connection is interrupted

    - by T Reddy
I have a Windows 7 share that my Mountain Lion Macbook Pro connects to. The windows share is simply a user account. For whatever reason, when my connection gets interrupted, the mac will show a dialog stating as such and will ask me to ignore or disconnect. From this point forward, I cannot re-establish the connection from the mac to the windows share (even if I reboot the mac). I always have to reboot the windows machine in order for my mac to see the share again. My Windows share is my media center, so I'm not always able to reboot the machine because it is recording TV. Has anybody else encountered this problem and if so how is it resolved?

  • Accessing the Internet via browser

    - by ucas
I am on Windows 7 and using Firefox browser. I am using WiFi, but since the morning I cannot access the Internet via the browsers (Firefox, Chrome, or IE). The laptop shows there is Internet connection, Skype is online, but I can't reach the Internet. Then I launched Tor application which creates secure channel and provides its Firefox browser. Well, I can now access the Internet over that browser. So, what might be the problem causing this malfunction? The error: The connection has timed out The server at mail.google.com is taking too long to respond. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. • Android Live Testing

I am making a game for android and in it I am using sensors which are not available in the emulator. At the moment I am connecting my device and transferring the apk, then installing to test but that is a pain to do, and I have gotten to the stage where I need to start logging values for debugging. I have gone into the run configs of my app and set it to prompt me to pick a device, but my device is never in the list when it is connected to my PC and I try to run it. How am I supposed to set it up to work properly? Thanks for the help.

  • What is bootstrap listener in the context of Spring framework?

    - by jillionbug2fix
I am studying Spring framework, in web.xml I added following which is a bootstrap listener. Can anyone give me a proper idea of what is a bootstrap listener? <listener> <listener-class>org.springframework.web.context.ContextLoaderListener</listener-class> </listener> You can see the doc here: ContextLoadListener Bootstrap listener to start up and shut down Spring's root WebApplicationContext. Simply delegates to ContextLoader as well as to ContextCleanupListener. This listener should be registered after Log4jConfigListener in web.xml, if the latter is used. As of Spring 3.1, ContextLoaderListener supports injecting the root web application context via the ContextLoaderListener(WebApplicationContext) constructor, allowing for programmatic configuration in Servlet 3.0+ environments. See WebApplicationInitializer for usage examples...

  • How to make google analytics report on two domains as though they are one site?

    - by Ben
We have a main site that Google analytics is currently running fine on (www.ourcompany.com). We have a page that is technically part of the site (same design, etc.) but is hosted on another server/domain for various business reasons (www.ourparentcompany.com/ourcompanyapp/). Do we just add the normal google analytics code to the bottom of that page? Or is there something more we have to do? If there isn't anything more then couldn't anyone just take your GA code and start reporting analytics to your profile from their site?

  • migrate SharePoint to SBS Server

    - by Eric Lorson
We have a SharePoint 2003 server and we need to migrate that data to SharePoint 2011 on a SBS server. We cannot use the migration tool because one of the servers is SBS and the other is not. We exported the SharePoint data from the old system, but the import to the SBS SharePoint is failing with very little info on why. I think that there is a schema conflict, but I am not that familiar with SBS and I am not finding the error in the Windows logs. Has anyone had to migrate data from non-SBS system to an SBS system? Or can anyone help me figure out where to look for more info on what is going on?

  • How to change Shift + <Keypad Key> behavior ?

    - by LeGEC

I am also used to use it for selection (e.g. : Shift+[KP7] - Select from cursor position to beginning of line, Shift+[KP1] - Select from cursor position to end of line, etc...) With the keyboard configuration installed with Ubuntu, though, Shift+[KP7] prints the character "7", Shift+[KP1] prints "1", etc... How can I change this so that Shift+[KP-key] is not mapped to [key], but to Shift+[KP-key] ?

I cannot improve on the by-line "Get started on your C# journey with an expert by your side leading by example" Adam Freeman teaches C# by precept and example. I suspect he drives a Volvo C30 as it comes up in many of the code examples! Throughout the book there are numerous links back and forth so as to avoid over complicating the current topic. • Multi-Domain Root Administrator

Essentially there is a single top level and forest domain controller "mydomain.lan" and two children "us.mydomain.lan" and "pl.mydomain.lan". We want to configure an administrator account or two at the top level domain that then has full administrator permissions on the sub domains. By default the top level administrator cannot access or login to machines on the sub-domains. Running W2K8R2. Ideas?

  • Mac OS X Snow Leopard: permissions changed on /var results in dns lookup issues

    - by Ivan
I was attempting to solve an issue ("/var/log/msmtp.log: permissions denied" error when attempting to send mail using msmtp) when I did this: > chmod -R 770 /var After that, my machine would not resolve domain names via cURL. (ping also fails) But, oddly, I can enter domain names into Safari and visit any web pages w/o a problem... I'm actually not sure if the chmod command is the cause of the problem, but I suspect it is. Also, if I ls -l on /var (or /private/var) it doesn't seem that any of the subdirectories or files there actually changed permission, but there are many, so I can't say that conclusively... Incidentally, I fixed the original error (msmtp.log permission denied) by setting TMPDIR=/tmp in my local environment (bash). Now the error goes away, but I get this error: msmtp: cannot locate host domainname.org: nodename nor servname provided, or not known Any ideas about how to go about getting DNS working again?

  • Do I create new site or add to existing site?

    - by nitbuntu
Hi, Suppose, as an example, I have a website with the address, www.cool-gifts.com and I'm getting regular sales and its a worthwhile site, but no great fireworks. After research I find that there is a great market for '2nd hand stuff' and I'd like to serve that market. Would it be best to add '2nd hand stuff' as an additional category of gifts in my existing site....or, since the 2nd hand stuff is a market in itself, would I be better off investing time and energy bringing up a whole new site (www.used-stuff.com)? If I had employees and financial resources, it probably would be a no-brainer...start a new site. But, what if you are a small guy, with limited resources? So...new site....or add to existing site?
