  • Why & When should I use SPARSE COLUMN? (SQL SERVER 2008)

    - by priyanka.sarkar
    After going thru some tutorials on SQL SERVER 2008's new feature SPARSE COLUMN, I have found that it doesn't take any space if the column value is 0 or null but when there is a value, it takes 4 times the space a regular(non sparse) column holds. If my understanding is correct, then why I will go for that at the time of database design? And if I use that, then at what situation so I be? Also out of curiosity, how come no space get's reserve when a column is defined as sparse column(I mean to say, what is the internal implementation for that) Thanks in advance

  • Creating a service (SERVICE_ACCEPT_SESSIONCHANGE)

    - by Ron
    Hi there, I am trying to create a service following the example documented in the link below: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb540475(v=VS.85).aspx What I am interested in is to be able to catch user "lock" and "unlock" workstation events. Using the code on from the example provided, I modified the following: Line 15: Original: VOID WINAPI SvcCtrlHandler( DWORD ); Modified: DWORD WINAPI SvcCtrlHandler( DWORD, DWORD, LPVOID, LPVOID ); Line 141: Original: gSvcStatusHandle = RegisterServiceCtrlHandler( SVCNAME, SvcCtrlHandler); Modified: gSvcStatusHandle = RegisterServiceCtrlHandlerEx( SVCNAME, SvcCtrlHandler, NULL); Line 244: Original: SvcStatus.dwControlsAccepted = SERVICE_ACCEPT_STOP; Modified: gSvcStatus.dwControlsAccepted = SERVICE_ACCEPT_STOP|SERVICE_ACCEPT_SESSIONCHANGE; Line 266: Original: VOID WINAPI SvcCtrlHandler( DWORD dwCtrl ) { // Handle the requested control code. switch(dwCtrl) { case SERVICE_CONTROL_STOP: ReportSvcStatus(SERVICE_STOP_PENDING, NO_ERROR, 0); // Signal the service to stop. SetEvent(ghSvcStopEvent); ReportSvcStatus(gSvcStatus.dwCurrentState, NO_ERROR, 0); return; case SERVICE_CONTROL_INTERROGATE: break; default: break; } }` Modified: DWORD WINAPI SvcCtrlHandler( DWORD dwControl, DWORD dwEventType, LPVOID lpEventData, LPVOID lpContext ) { DWORD dwErrorCode = NO_ERROR; switch(dwControl) { case SERVICE_CONTROL_STOP: ReportSvcStatus(SERVICE_STOP_PENDING, NO_ERROR, 0); // Signal the service to stop. SetEvent(ghSvcStopEvent); ReportSvcStatus(gSvcStatus.dwCurrentState, NO_ERROR, 0); break; case SERVICE_CONTROL_INTERROGATE: break; case SERVICE_CONTROL_SESSIONCHANGE: ReportSvcStatus(gSvcStatus.dwCurrentState, NO_ERROR, 0); break; default: break; } return dwErrorCode; } With the changes above, my service compiled and install fine. But when I try to start my service on my Windows 2000 machine, it does not start properly (it will be stuck on the "starting" status) Can anyone please advise? Thank you in advance, Ron

  • Containers of reference_wrappers (comparison operators required?)

    - by kloffy
    If you use stl containers together with reference_wrappers of POD types, the following code works just fine: int i = 3; std::vector< boost::reference_wrapper<int> > is; is.push_back(boost::ref(i)); std::cout << (std::find(is.begin(),is.end(),i)!=is.end()) << std::endl; However, if you use non-POD types such as (contrived example): struct Integer { int value; bool operator==(const Integer& rhs) const { return value==rhs.value; } bool operator!=(const Integer& rhs) const { return !(*this == rhs); } }; It doesn't suffice to declare those comparison operators, instead you have to declare: bool operator==(const boost::reference_wrapper<Integer>& lhs, const Integer& rhs) { return boost::unwrap_ref(lhs)==rhs; } And possibly also: bool operator==(const Integer& lhs, const boost::reference_wrapper<Integer>& rhs) { return lhs==boost::unwrap_ref(rhs); } In order to get the equivalent code to work: Integer j = { 0 }; std::vector< boost::reference_wrapper<Integer> > js; js.push_back(boost::ref(j)); std::cout << (std::find(js.begin(),js.end(),j)!=js.end()) << std::endl; Now, I'm wondering if this is really the way it's meant to be done, since it seems impractical. It just seems there should be a simpler solution, e.g. templates: template<class T> bool operator==(const boost::reference_wrapper<T>& lhs, const T& rhs) { return boost::unwrap_ref(lhs)==rhs; } template<class T> bool operator==(const T& lhs, const boost::reference_wrapper<T>& rhs) { return lhs==boost::unwrap_ref(rhs); } There's probably a good reason why reference_wrapper behaves the way it does (possibly to accomodate non-POD types without comparison operators?). Maybe there already is an elegant solution and I just haven't found it.

  • PHP and XSLTProcessor Misbehavior

    - by Aiden Bell
    Hi all, Simple question: Why is a PHP function called from an XSL Stylesheet just returning the last argument passed: foo.xsl: <xsl:template match="/"> <xsl:value-of select="php:function('date','c')" /> </xsl:template> PHP: ... $xsl = new XSLTProcessor(); $xsl->registerPHPFunctions(); $xsl->importStylesheet($fooStylesheet); echo $xsl->transformToXML($myXML); I Get the output c and if I call <xsl:value-of select="php:function('date')" /> I just get date as my output. Seems strange to me. Version info: PHP 5.3.2 libxslt Version 1.1.26 libxslt compiled against libxml Version 2.7.6 EXSLT enabled libexslt Version 1.1.26

  • Blackberry custom slideshow-style BitmapField manager

    - by Diego Tori
    Right now, I'm trying to figure out how to implement the following: Suppose I have a custom Manager that has about 10 or so BitmapFields layed out in a horizontal manner (similar to a slideshow contained in a HFM ) . What I want to achieve is to be able to move the image HFM via touchEvent horizontally, where a BitmapField would take focus on the left-hand side of the custom Manager. In other words, will I have to give a value to setHorizontalScroll and if so, is it a matter of just incrementing that value when the user makes a left or right touch event. Also, how can I get the focus of a Field within a given position on the screen (i.e. the left-most Field on the HFM) when the HFM is scrolling sideways via touchEvent?

  • How to make an entity out of a join table without primary key

    - by tputkonen
    I'm trying to generate JPA entities out of an existing database having an "interesting" design. Database has a table called UserSet, which can have links to several other UserSets. There is a one to many relation between UserSets and LinkedUserSets. LinkedUserSets also has one to one relation to UserSets. I tried to generate a JPA Entity out of the database structure using Dali JPA Tools. The resulting entity Linkeduserset misses @Id or @EmbeddedId annotation and thus failes to compile. As the resulting entity contains only two @JoinColumns (which cannot be marked as @Id), I have not so far found a way around this issue. Database structure can not be modified in any way. Is there a way to overcome this somehow? Relevant pars of create table statements: CREATE TABLE `LinkedUserSets` ( `UsrSetID` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0' , `ChildID` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT '0' , CONSTRAINT `fk_LinkedUserSets_UserSet1` FOREIGN KEY (`UsrSetID` ) REFERENCES `UserSet` (`UsrSetID` )); CREATE TABLE `UserSet` ( `UsrSetID` INT(11) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT , PRIMARY KEY (`UsrSetID`), CONSTRAINT `fk_UserSet_LinkedUserSets1` FOREIGN KEY (`UsrSetID` ) REFERENCES `LinkedUserSets` (`ChildID` )); Generated entities: @Entity @Table(name="linkedusersets") public class Linkeduserset { //bi-directional many-to-one association to Userset @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name="UsrSetID") private Userset userset1; //bi-directional one-to-one association to Userset @OneToOne @JoinColumn(name="ChildID") private Userset userset2; } @Entity @Table(name="userset") public class Userset { private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; @Id @Column(name="UsrSetID") private int jngSetID; //bi-directional many-to-one association to Linkeduserset @OneToMany(mappedBy="userset1") private Set<Linkeduserset> linkedusersets; //bi-directional one-to-one association to Linkeduserset @OneToOne(mappedBy="userset2") private Linkeduserset linkeduserset; } Error message: Entity "Linkeduserset" has no Id or EmbeddedId

  • Databinding Error when Recreating object

    - by Maxim Gershkovich
    Hi All, Figure there is a simple solution to this problem but I have been unable to find it. I have databinding in an ASP.Net application to a GridView. This gridview is bound to an ObjectDataSource as per standard usage. The problem I have is that one of my bound fields uses the property DataFormatString="{0:C}" and due to the currency format being displayed when an update is attempted and the object recreated I get a error as such "$13.00 is not a valid value for Decimal." Clearly this is a result of the column using a FormatString and then attempting to bind it back to a decimal property I have in my object called UnitPrice. I am assuming there is some markup I can set that can specify how the value is translated back? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • KO 2.3.4 - Accessing validation array from callbacks in models

    - by kenny99
    Hi, Apologies if this is an oversight or sheer stupidity on my part but I can't quite figure out how to access the validation array from a callback in a model (using ORM and KO 2.3.4). I want to be able to add specific error messages to the validation array if a callback returns false. e.g This register method: public function register(array & $array, $save = FALSE) { // Initialise the validation library and setup some rules $array = Validation::factory($array) ->pre_filter('trim') ->add_rules('email', 'required', 'valid::email', array($this, 'email_available')) ->add_rules('confirm_email', 'matches[email]') ->add_rules('password', 'required', 'length[5,42]') ->add_rules('confirm_password', 'matches[password]'); return ORM::validate($array, $save); } Callback: public function email_available($value) { return ! (bool) $this->db ->where('email', $value) ->count_records($this->table_name); } I can obviously access the current model from the callback, but I was wondering what the best way to add custom error from the callback would be?

  • Can .NET load and parse a properties file equivalent to Java Properties class?

    - by Tai Squared
    Is there an easy way in C# to read a properties file that has each property on a separate line followed by an equals sign and the value, such as the following: ServerName=prod-srv1 Port=8888 CustomProperty=Any value In Java, the Properties class handles this parsing easily: Properties myProperties=new Properties(); FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream (new File("CustomProps.properties")); myProperties.load(fis); System.out.println(myProperties.getProperty("ServerName")); System.out.println(myProperties.getProperty("CustomProperty")); I can easily load the file in C# and parse each line, but is there a built in way to easily get a property without having to parse out the key name and equals sign myself? The C# information I have found seems to always favor XML, but this is an existing file that I don't control and I would prefer to keep it in the existing format as it will require more time to get another team to change it to XML than parsing the existing file.

  • About AMR audio file playing issue on different devices

    - by user352537
    I have got a quite strange problem here. I am developing an IM software and need to play audio files recorded by another client on Android. The same audio file I've got can be played with AVAudioPlayer on 3GS(IOS 4.2.1) device and simulator 4.2. But when I tried by play it on iPhone4(iOS 4.3.3), the function "play" always return NO. I also tried with two iPhone devices, the audio files recorded by iPhone client can be played on both 3GS and iPhone4. So I asked the Android developers about the record parameters they've used. They said that the "AudioEncoder" used by them was "DEFAULT". There are also some other parameters as following: **private AudioEncoder() {} public static final int DEFAULT = 0; /** AMR (Narrowband) audio codec */ public static final int AMR_NB = 1; /** @hide AMR (Wideband) audio codec */ public static final int AMR_WB = 2; /** @hide AAC audio codec */ public static final int AAC = 3; /** @hide enhanced AAC audio codec */ public static final int AAC_PLUS = 4; /** @hide enhanced AAC plus audio codec */ public static final int EAAC_PLUS = 5;** Does anybody know what's the matter?

  • Sample the deltas between values using boost::accumulators

    - by Checkers
    I have a data set with N integers (say, 13, 16, 17, 20) where each next sample is incremented by some value (3, 1, 3 in this case) and I want to use boost::accumulators::accumulator_set to find various statistics of the second sequence. I want to be able to do something like this: accumulator_set< double, features< tag::mean > > acc; ... acc(13); acc(16); acc(17); acc(20); ...BUT sampling the differences instead of the actual values. How can I do that with accumulator_set without keeping track of the last value manually?

  • Setting a "dependency property" in code

    - by Matt B
    I'm on a roll today... I have the following code delaring a dependency property inside a class called ActionScreen: #region Dependency Properties & Methods public string DescriptionHeader { get { return (string)GetValue(DescriptionHeaderProperty); } set { SetValue(DescriptionHeaderProperty, value); } } // Using a DependencyProperty as the backing store for DescriptionHeader. This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty DescriptionHeaderProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("DescriptionHeader", typeof(string), typeof(ActionScreen), new UIPropertyMetadata("xxx")); #endregion I bind to this property in my Xaml as so: <GridViewColumn DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Description}" Header="{Binding DescriptionHeader}" Width="350" /> Now I want to be able to set the parameter from my code behind when I recieve an event - but it's not working: public string DescColText { set { this.Dispatcher.Invoke(DispatcherPriority.Normal, new Action(delegate() { DescriptionHeader = value; })); } }

  • Translating CURL to FLEX HTTPRequests

    I am trying to convert from some CURL code to FLEX/ActionScript. Since I am 100% ignorant about CURL and 50% ignorant about Flex and 90% ignorant on HTTP in general... I'm having some significant difficulty. The following CURL code is from http://code.google.com/p/ga-api-http-samples/source/browse/trunk/src/v2/accountFeed.sh I have every reason to believe that it's working correctly. I readily admit functional ineptitude, therefore letting me know how stupid I am is optional.

  • problem with null column

    - by Iulian
    One column in my database (of type double) has some null values. I am executing a sored procedure to get the data in my app wipDBTableAdapters.XLSFacturiTableAdapter TAFacturi = new wipDBTableAdapters.XLSFacturiTableAdapter(); var dtfacturi = TAFacturi.GetData(CodProiect); Then i try to do something like this: if (dtfacturi[i].CANTITATE == null) { //do something } this is giving a warning : The result of the expression is always 'false' since a value of type 'double' is never equal to 'null' of type 'double? However when i run my code i get the following exception: StrongTypingException The value for column 'CANTITATE' in table 'XLSFacturi' is DBNull. How am I supposed to resolve this ?

    My problem is how to convert a c/c++ string/chractor array to another string contain the unicode(UTF-16) escape sequence of original one for example, I want to find a function F(char *ch) could do following function. char a[10] = "\u5f53"; printf("a = %s\n",a); char b[10]; b = F(a); //<- F is the function I wanted printf("b = %s\n",b); -------- console will show ------- a = ? b = \u5f53 Anyone has any Idea@@?~ thanks!! ps: I tried to guess \u5f35 means the value store in a, but it is not indeed the value of a[0] = -79 , a[1] = 105 ... • Why is cell phone software is still so primitive?

    - by Tomislav Nakic-Alfirevic
    I don't do mobile development, but it strikes me as odd that features like this aren't available by default on most phones: full text search: searches all address book contents, messages, anything else being a plus better call management: e.g. a rotating audio call log, meaning you always have the last N calls recorded for your listening pleasure later (your little girl just said her first "da-da" while you were on a business trip, you had a telephone job interview, you received complex instructions to do something etc.) bluetooth remote control (like e.g. anyRemote, but available by default on a bluetooth phone) no multitasking capabilities worth mentioning and in general no e.g. weekly software updates, making the phone much more usable (even if it had to be done over USB, rather than over the network). I'm sure I was dumbfounded by the lack or design of other features as well, but they don't come to mind right now. To clarify, I'm not talking about smartphones here: my plain, 2-year old phone has a CPU an order of magnitude faster than my first PC, about as much storage space and it's ridiculous how bad (slow, unwieldy) the software is and it's not one phone or one manufacturer. What keeps the (to me) obvious software functionality vacuum on a capable hardware platform from being filled up?

But i only want in that list the users that are in a follow relationship with the logged in user - the one who creates the classroom. How can i do that? Thanks!

  • error C2512 in precompiled header file?

    - by SoloMael
    I'm having a ridiculously strange problem. When I try to run the program below, there's an error message that says: "error C2512: 'Record' : no appropriate default constructor available". And when I double-click it, it directs me to a precompiled read-only header file named "xmemory0". Do they expect me to change a read-only file? Here's the segment of code in the file it directs me to: void construct(_Ty *_Ptr) { // default construct object at _Ptr ::new ((void *)_Ptr) _Ty(); // directs me to this line } Here's the program: #include <iostream> #include <vector> #include <string> using namespace std; const int NG = 4; // number of scores struct Record { string name; // student name int scores[NG]; double average; // Calculate the average // when the scores are known Record(int s[], double a) { double sum = 0; for(int count = 0; count != NG; count++) { scores[count] = s[count]; sum += scores[count]; } average = a; average = sum / NG; } }; int main() { // Names of the class string names[] = {"Amy Adams", "Bob Barr", "Carla Carr", "Dan Dobbs", "Elena Evans"}; // exam scores according to each student int exams[][NG]= { {98, 87, 93, 88}, {78, 86, 82, 91}, {66, 71, 85, 94}, {72, 63, 77, 69}, {91, 83, 76, 60}}; vector<Record> records(5); return 0; }

How would you describe this website? format: option | number of times selected | percentage of users who selected that option Informative 1 50% All of the above 1 50% Interesting 0 0% Intelligent 0 0% Cool 0 0% Incredible 0 0% Sleek 0 0% Amazing the graph is a bar graph, where each bar represents one of those options, and the height of the bar depends on the number of times selected. however, the labels are slanted at a 45 degree angle and are barely readable! here is my code: <?php require_once ("includes/common.php"); require_once ("graph/mtChart.min.php"); // type must be specified $type = $_GET['type']; if($type == "surveys_report_MC_or_CB") { // PARAMS $surveyID = $_GET['surveyID']; $questionID = $_GET['questionID']; // END PARAMS $question = SurveyQuestions::getSingle($questionID); $answers = SurveyAnswers::getAll($questionID); $options = SurveyQuestionOptions::getAll($question[SurveyQuestions::surveyQuestionID]); $others = SurveyAnswers::setOptionCounts($options, $answers); $printedOthers = false; // set graph $values = array(); $axisLabels = array(); foreach($options as $option) { $values[$option[SurveyQuestionOptions::optionText]] = $option['count']; $axisLabels[] = $option[SurveyQuestionOptions::optionText]; } $graphs = array(); $graphs[0] = $values; $xName = "Option"; $yName = "Number of Times Selected"; $graphTitle = $question[SurveyQuestions::question]; $series = array("Total"); $showLegend = false; $tall = false; } drawGraph($graphs, $axisLabels, $xName, $yName, $graphTitle, $series, $showLegend, $tall); function drawGraph($graphs, $axisLabels, $xName, $yName, $graphTitle, $series, $showLegend, $tall) { $Graph = ($tall) ? new mtChart(575,375) : new mtChart(575,275); // Dataset definition $avg = 0; $i = 0; foreach ($graphs as $key => $value) { $Graph->AddPoint($value,"series" . $key); $Graph->SetSerieName($series[$key],"series" . $key); // Get average $avg += array_sum($value); $size = sizeof($value); $i += $size; // Calculate x-axis tick interval $step = ceil($size / 25); } $Graph->AddPoint($axisLabels,"XLabel"); $Graph->AddAllSeries(); $Graph->RemoveSerie("XLabel"); $Graph->SetAbsciseLabelSerie("XLabel"); $Graph->SetXAxisName($xName); $Graph->SetYAxisName($yName); // Get from cache if it exists $Graph->enableCaching(NULL, 'graph/cache/'); $Graph->GetFromCache(); // Initialize the graph $Graph->setInterval($step); $Graph->setFontProperties("graph/tahoma.ttf",8); ($showLegend) ? $Graph->setGraphArea(45,30,475,200) : $Graph->setGraphArea(75,30,505,200); $Graph->drawGraphArea(255,255,255,TRUE); $Graph->drawScale(SCALE_START0,100,100,100,TRUE,55,1,TRUE); $Graph->drawGrid(4,TRUE,230,230,230,50); // Draw the 0 line $Graph->setFontProperties("graph/tahoma.ttf",6); $Graph->drawTreshold(0,143,55,72,TRUE,TRUE); // Draw the bar graph $Graph->drawBarGraph(); // Draw average line $Graph->drawTreshold($avg/$i, 0, 0, 0, FALSE, FALSE, 5); // Finish the graph $Graph->setFontProperties("graph/tahoma.ttf",8); if ($showLegend) { $Graph->drawLegend(482,30,255,255,255,255,255,255,100,100,100); } $Graph->setFontProperties("graph/tahoma.ttf",10); $Graph->drawTitle(0,22,$graphTitle,100,100,100,555); // Draw Graph $Graph->Stroke(); } and here is where i use it on the page: <div class="graph_container"> <img src="drawGraph.php?type=surveys_report_MC_or_CB&surveyID=<?php echo $survey[Surveys::surveyID] ?>&questionID=<?php echo $question[SurveyQuestions::surveyQuestionID] ?>" /> is there a setting i can apply to the graph which will make the text look nicer, or at least let me set the angle to 90 degrees so people can read it if they cock their head to the left? thanks! btw, mtchart is located here: http://code.google.com/p/mtchart/ and pchart (the original, which has mainly the same code) is here: http://pchart.sourceforge.net/documentation.php

  • Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError

    - by Ray.R.Chua
    I have a piece of code and I could not figure out why it is giving me Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. This is the question: Given a positive integer n, prints out the sum of the lengths of the Syracuse sequence starting in the range of 1 to n inclusive. So, for example, the call: lengths(3) will return the the combined length of the sequences: 1 2 1 3 10 5 16 8 4 2 1 which is the value: 11. lengths must throw an IllegalArgumentException if its input value is less than one. My Code: import java.util.HashMap; public class Test { HashMap<Integer,Integer> syraSumHashTable = new HashMap<Integer,Integer>(); public Test(){ } public int lengths(int n)throws IllegalArgumentException{ int sum =0; if(n < 1){ throw new IllegalArgumentException("Error!! Invalid Input!"); } else{ for(int i =1; i<=n;i++){ if(syraSumHashTable.get(i)==null) { syraSumHashTable.put(i, printSyra(i,1)); sum += (Integer)syraSumHashTable.get(i); } else{ sum += (Integer)syraSumHashTable.get(i); } } return sum; } } private int printSyra(int num, int count){ int n = num; if(n == 1){ return count; } else{ if(n%2==0){ return printSyra(n/2, ++count); } else{ return printSyra((n*3)+1, ++count) ; } } } } Driver code: public static void main(String[] args) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Test s1 = new Test(); System.out.println(s1.lengths(90090249)); //System.out.println(s1.lengths(5)); } . I know the problem lies with the recursion. The error does not occur if the input is a small value, example: 5. But when the number is huge, like 90090249, I got the Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError. Thanks all for your help. :) I almost forgot the error msg: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.StackOverflowError at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:65) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:65) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60) at Test.printSyra(Test.java:60)
