• IBOutlets are always nil

  Hi, In IB I have subclassed the File Owner and the subclass loads my .nib. The subclass itself doesn't need access to the IBOutlets so they're instance variables in another class, which I added as a subclass of NSObject in the .nib. Then I connected the interface elements to that object. But somehow, in the class that "owns" the IBOutlets, they show up as nil. What am I doing wrong here?

The Inbox sits at the following location /home/admin/MyLibrary/MyVideos/Inbox /home/admin/MyLibrary/MyVideos/Movies The system is a Netgear Stora NAS box that I have root access to. The /home/ folder is mounted as an smb share on various computers around the house. The folder /Inbox cannot be opened on any of those machines (they all connect as 'admin'). When I ssh into the box using the 'admin' credentials I am also unable to access the folder. The folder was created via a Web Admin page hosted on the NAS. The user/group for the Inbox folder was previously apache:www (expected as this folder was created by the web application), but I chmod/chowned the folder as the root user in an attempt to grant the admin user (therefore the rest of the connected machines) access to the files. Sorry for not including this earlier, I wasn't sure if it was relevant and didn't want to confuse the situation. -Thanks 3rd Edit Sorry again - It looks like this NAS is running some custom version of Red Hat, not Debian as previously stated - I'm not sure if this makes a difference

• SIMPLEST way to set up password protection for a static site, with basic admin UI?

  I have a static site. I would like the simplest approach to password protecting a directory, with a basic admin UI for adding/removing users. I will have so few users that I don't care about performance. I don't care if it's PHP or Django or whatever, I just want a complete software package. Apache basic auth isn't good, because you can't log out. Nor is there a UI for adding users. I tried throwing everything behind Django auth and serving the files through Django. However, Chrome treats all my text/css headers as text/plain, so I don't get any stylesheets showing. I can't use mod_xsendfile on my server because I can't reconfigure Apache to add new modules. I think this approach is overkill anyway. I can try configuring Nginx's X-Accel-Redirect, however that requires implementing all the Django code for auth myself, and I'd prefer an existing solution. However, this is my backup plan. Is there a code package that implements authentication with basic admin for a static site?

• Should I use a separate 'admin' user as my "root sudo" or grant sudo to my 'app' user?

  I'm still wrapping my brain around the Ubuntu 'nullify root' user management philosophy (and Linux in general) and I'm wondering if I should 'replace' my root user with a user called 'admin' (which basically has all the powers of the root, when using sudo) and create another user called 'app' that will be the primary user for my app. Here's the context: I'll be running a LNMP stack on Ubuntu 12.04 Server LTS. There will be only one app running on the server. The 'app' user needs to have SUPER privileges for MySQL. PHP will need to be able to exec() shell commands. The 'app' user will need to be able to transfer files via SFTP. And I'm thinking this would be the best approach: nullify 'root' user create a user called 'admin' that will be a full sudoer of root, this will be the new "root" user of NGINX, PHP, and MySQL (and all system software) grant SUPER privileges to 'app' in MySQL Grant SFTP privileges to only the 'app' user. As I'm new to this, and the information I've found in researching it tends to be of a more general nature, I'm wondering if this is a solid approach, or if it's unorthodox in a way that would cause issues down the road. And how can we overcome the PHP limitation? Shall we return chunk of data each time? How do they usually present enormous amount of data to the users and creating charts and reports from this data? Another big problem that we need to overcome is that the returned JSON object is enormous. At this point is around 20-30 mbs and it will be much larger in the future. Is it ok to return this data to the user and perform everything client side? Any suggestions or thoughts welcome.

• Polymorphism problem: How to check type of derived class?

  Hi, this is my first question here :) I know that I should not check for object type but instead use dynamic_cast, but that would not solve my problem. I have class called Extension and interfaces called IExtendable and IInitializable, IUpdatable, ILoadable, IDrawable (the last four are basicly the same). If Extension implements IExtendable interface, it can extend itself with different Extension objects. The problem is that I want to allow the Extension which implements IExtendable to extend only with Extension that implements the same interfaces as the original Extension. • UIToolBar and iPhone Interface Orientation Problem

  I am developing an application in iPhone. One view support orientation in portrait and landscape. I have two separate views for both orientation. This view has a UIToolbar at the top. Problem is when I change view back from landscape to portrait, UIToolbar at the top disappears. I want toolbar to come back in its original position when it is rotated back to portrait.   I need to integrate an off-the-shelf Windows application with a Java application. At a few key points, I need the Windows application to send an "event" and some data to the Java application. The Windows application anticipated this need, and can be configured to "Poke a DDE Item", "Set an OLE Auto-Property" or "Write an OPC Item". I'm already using JACOB to call COM methods and set COM properties on a COM object. However, I'm guessing that's pretty unrelated to these "event" notification capabilities. Anyone have any experience calling FROM a Windows application to a "DDE Item", "OLE Auto-Property" or "OPC Item" that's actually in a JVM? Any pointers, advice, etc, would be appreciated.

  I just pay for the deluxe plan in godaddy for my website but I have a problem, I created the database in mssql and when I click to webadmin ,it redirects me to: http://mssql.myname.com/silentlogon.aspx with the message: This webpage is not available. But if I create a mysql database everything is ok, idk what I am doing wrong , I know I cant contact GoDaddy but the line is busy or when I talk to them they don't understand. • Expected output from an RM-1501 RS232 interface?

  I have an old RM-1501 digital tachometer which I'm using to try to identify the speed of an object. According to the manual I should be able to read the data over a serial link. Unfortunately, I don't appear to be able to get any sensible output from the device (never gives a valid speed). I think it might be a signalling problem because disconnecting the CTS line starts to get some data through.. Has anyone ever developed anything for one of these / had any success?

  I have two NIB's ParentViewController.xib ChildViewController.xib ParentViewController.xib contains a UIView and a UIViewController. ChildViewController.xib contains a UIButton I want ChildViewController.xib to load in the ParentViewController.xib's UIView I have done the following: Created @property for UIView in ParentViewController Connected File's Owner to UIView in ParentViewController Set UIViewController in ParentViewController's NIB Name property to ChildViewController in Interface Builder Set ChildViewController view property to UIView in ParentViewController I was hoping this would load ChildViewController into my UIView in ParentViewController but no luck. I did get the following warning, which could be the culprit: 'View Controller (Child View)' has both its 'NIB Name' property set and its 'view' outlet connected. This configuration is not supported. I also have added additional code in ParentViewController's viewDidLoad(): - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; ChildViewController *childViewController = [[ChildViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"ChildViewController" bundle:nil]; childViewController.view = self.myView; } Any thoughts on why ChildViewController does not load in the UIView of ParentViewController?
