  • Java - short and casting

    - by chr1s
Hi all, I have the following code snippet. public static void main(String[] args) { short a = 4; short b = 5; short c = 5 + 4; short d = a; short e = a + b; // does not compile (expression treated as int) short z = 32767; short z_ = 32768; // does not compile (out of range) test(a); test(7); // does not compile (not applicable for arg int) } public static void test(short x) { } Is the following summary correct (with regard to only the example above using short)? direct initializations without casting is only possible using literals or single variables (as long as the value is in the range of the declared type) if the rhs of an assignment deals with expressions using variables, casting is necessary But why exactly do I need to cast the argument of the second method call taking into account the previous summary?

  • Passing context between templatetags, django

    - by Kasper Gadensgaard
Hi overflowers, I am using django to create a web-application. I have created a template in where I load a templatetag. In this templatetag i load another templatetag. From the template I pass context to the first templatetag, but the context is not available from the second templatetag (inside the first templatetag) - see below. I hope this makes sense, and that one of you have the answer. Thanks in advance Regards Kasper Gadensgaard Template snippit: {% load templatetags %} {% some_tag argument %} some_tag Templatetag: {% load templatetags %} {% some_other_tag another_argument %} some_other_tag Templatetag: In this templatetag i am trying to access context to get user info i.e. using request = context['request'] request.user

  • How to pass EventArgument information from view to view model in WPF?

    - by Ashish Ashu
I have ListView control in my application which is binded to the collection of CustomObject List<CustomObject. The CustomObject has seperate view. This ListView has seperate view model. The collection List _customobject is containted in the ListView ViewModel class. My Query: I want to invoke a view that show properties of custom object, when user double click on any row of ListView. The ListView double click command is binded to the ListViewDoublClick Command in the view model. The CustomObject is in the event argument of listview double click command. To acheive this I have to pass the custom object ( or an unique id property of custom object through which I can retrieve the custom object from the collection) as command parameter. Please suggest me the solution!!

  • Cannot use Html.ActionLink in asp.net mvc spark files

    - by midas06
I'm using the spark view engine with my asp.net mvc application. In my aspx pages, I can succesfully use Html.Actionlink, but when I attempt it in spark files, it doesnt show up in intellisense, and when i try to run it anyway, i get: Dynamic view compilation failed. c:\Users\midas\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\ChurchMVC\ChurchMVC\Views\Home\Index.spark(73,25): error CS1061: 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' does not contain a definition for 'ActionLink' and no extension method 'ActionLink' accepting a first argument of type 'System.Web.Mvc.HtmlHelper' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I do have system.web.mvc referenced, and I have added in _global.spark. None of that helps. Any ideas?

    What argument should be in this missing part of formatter.Serliaze to get the program to save just the program as a .exe? Ignore the Openfiles. class FileOption { OpenFileDialog openDialog = new OpenFileDialog(); SaveFileDialog saveDialog = new SaveFileDialog(); BinaryFormatter formatter = new BinaryFormatter(); public void Open() { } public void Save() { if (saveDialog.ShowDialog() == DialogResult.OK) { FileStream file = new FileStream(saveDialog.FileName, FileMode.Create); formatter.Serialize(file, x); // x means that i havent set anything there yet// file.Close(); } } }

  • Send parameters in order in HTTPService

    - by Suraj Chandran
I am trying to work with a simple HTTPService. The problem is that my webservice is conscious of the order of arguments it gets. I will tell the problem with an example: var service:HTTPService = new HTTPService(); var params:Object = new Object(); params.rows = 0; params.facet = "true"; service.send(params); Note that in the above code I have mentioned the parameter rows before facet, but the url I recieve is facet=true&rows=0. So I recieve the argument rows before facet and hence my webservice does not work. I figured out that the contents of array is always sent in alphabetical order, which I dont want. Is there any way I can achieve explict ordering of parameters sent? Note that I am not in power of changing the logic of webservice(its basically a RPC service supporting both desktop and web client). Thanks.

  • .NET: IOException for permissions when creating new file?

    - by Rosarch
I am trying to create a new file and write XML to it: FileStream output = File.Create(Path.Combine(PATH_TO_DATA_DIR, fileName)); The argument evaluates to: C:\path\to\Data\test.xml The exception is: The process cannot access the file 'C:\path\to\Data\test.xml' because it is being used by another process. What am I doing wrong here? UPDATE: This code throws the same exception: StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine(PATH_TO_DATA_DIR, fileName)); UPDATE 2: The file I am trying to create does not exist in the file system. So how can be it in use?

  • iPhone Foundation - performance implications of mutable and xxxWithCapacity:0

    - by Adam Eberbach
All of the collection classes have two versions - mutable and immutable, such as NSArray and NSMutableArray. Is the distinction merely to promote careful programming by providing a const collection or is there some performance hit when using a mutable object as opposed to immutable? Similarly each of the collection classes has a method xxxxWithCapacity, like [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:0]. I often use zero as the argument because it seems a better choice than guessing wrongly how many objects might be added. Is there some performance advantage to creating a collection with capacity for enough objects in advance? If not why isn't the function something like + (id)emptyArray?

  • How to set permissions on MSMQ Cluster queues?

    - by JorgeSandoval
I've got a cluster with functioning private MSMQ 3.0 queues. I'm trying to programmatically set the permissions, but can't seem to connect via System.Messaging on the queues. The code below works just fine when working with local queues (and using .\ nomenclature for the local queue). How to programmatically set the permissions on the clustered queues? Powershell code executed from the active node function set-msmqpermission ([string] $queuepath,[string] $account, [string] $accessright) { if (!([System.Messaging.MessageQueue]::Exists($queuepath))){ throw "$queuepath could not be found." } $q=New-Object System.Messaging.MessageQueue($queuepath) $q.SetPermissions($account,[System.Messaging.MessageQueueAccessRights]::$accessright, [System.Messaging.AccessControlEntryType]::Set) } set-msmqpermission "clusternetworkname\private$\qa1ack" "UserAccount" "FullControl" Exception calling "SetPermissions" with "3" argument(s): "Invalid queue path name." • I've Heard Global Variables Are Bad, What Alternative Solution Should I Use?

    - by Jay
I've read all over the place that global variables are bad and alternatives should be used. In Javascript specifically, what solution should I choose. I'm thinking of a function, that when fed two arguments (function globalVariables(Variable,Value)) looks if Variable exists in a local array and if it does set it's value to Value, else, Variable and Value are appended. If the function is called without arguments (function globalVariables()) it returns the array. Perhaps if the function is fired with just one argument (function globalVariables(Variable)) it returns the value of Variable in the array. What do you think? I'd like to hear your alternative solutions and arguments for using global variables.

  • Is ACE reactor timer managment thread safe?

    - by idimba
I have a module that manages timers in my aplication. This class has basibly three functions: Instance of ACE_Reactor is used internally by the module to manage the timers. schedule timer - calls ACE_Reactor::schedule_timer(). One of the arguments is a callback, called upon timer experation. cancel timer - calls ACE_Reactor::cancel_timer() The reactor executed in private timer of execution, so schedule/cancel and timeout callback are executed in different threads. ACE_Reactor::schedule_timer() receives a heap allocatec structure ( arg argument). This structure later deleted when canceling timer or when timeout handler is called. But since cancel and timeout handler are executed in different threads it looks like there's cases that the structure is deleted twice. Isn't it responsibility of reactor to ensure that timer is canceled when timeout handler is called?

  • posix pthreads in c

    - by Codenotguru
Iam new to c programming and needs some help. long *taskids[NUM_THREADS]; for(t=0; t<NUM_THREADS; t++) { taskids[t] = (long *) malloc(sizeof(long)); *taskids[t] = t; printf("Creating thread %ld\n", t); rc = pthread_create(&threads[t], NULL, PrintHello, (void *) taskids[t]); ... } This code fragment demonstrates how to pass a simple integer to each thread. The calling thread uses a unique data structure for each thread, insuring that each thread's argument remains intact throughout the program. Iam not able to understand how this is happening can somebody explain it??

  • ASP.NET MVC Validation - localisation of the error string

However I am building a localised web site. How can I localized the error string? I tried the following by replacing the following: [RegularExpression(@"\d{4}",ErrorMessage="Must be a 4 digit year")] public Nullable YearOfWork { get; set; } With the following: [RegularExpression(@"\d{4}",ErrorMessage=Resources.SharedStrings.search_error1)] public Nullable YearOfWork { get; set; } but I get a complilation error: An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type Please help!

  • Getting the uptime of a SunOS UNIX box in seconds only

    - by JF
How do I determine the uptime on a SunOS UNIX box in seconds only? On Linux, I could simply cat /proc/uptime & take the first argument: cat /proc/uptime | awk '{print $1}' I'm trying to do the same on a SunOS UNIX box, but there is no /proc/uptime. There is an uptime command which presents the following output: $ uptime 12:13pm up 227 day(s), 15:14, 1 user, load average: 0.05, 0.05, 0.05 I don't really want to have to write code to convert the date into seconds only & I'm sure someone must have had this requirement before but I have been unable to find anything on the internet. Can anyone tell me how to get the uptime in just seconds? TIA

  • Instantiating a System.Threading.Thread object in Jscript

    - by user297029
I'm trying to create a new System.Threading.Thread object using Jscript, but I can't get the constructor to work. If I just do the following, var thread = new Thread( threadFunc ); function threadFunc() { // do stuff } then I get error JS1184: More than one constructor matches this argument list. However, if I try to coerce threadFunc to System.Threading.ThreadStart via var thread = new Thread( ThreadStart(threadFunc) ) I get error JS1208: The specified conversion or coercion is not possible Anyone know how to do this? It seems like it should be trivial.

  • How to prevent code/option injection in a bash script

    - by asmaier
I have written a small bash script called "isinFile.sh" for checking if the first term given to the script can be found in the file "file.txt": #!/bin/bash FILE="file.txt" if [ `grep -w "$1" $FILE` ]; then echo "true" else echo "false" fi However, running the script like > ./isinFile.sh -x breaks the script, since -x is interpreted by grep as an option. So I improved my script #!/bin/bash FILE="file.txt" if [ `grep -w -- "$1" $FILE` ]; then echo "true" else echo "false" fi using -- as an argument to grep. Now running > ./isinFile.sh -x false works. But is using -- the correct and only way to prevent code/option injection in bash scripts? I have not seen it in the wild, only found it mentioned in ABASH: Finding Bugs in Bash Scripts.

  • How to mock protected virtual members with Rhino.Mocks?

    - by Vadim
Moq allows developers to mock protected members. I was looking for the same functionality in Rhino.Mocks but fail to find it. Here's an example from Moq Quick Start page how to mock protected method. // at the top of the test fixture using Moq.Protected() // in the test var mock = new Mock<CommandBase>(); mock.Protected() .Setup<int>("Execute") .Returns(5); // if you need argument matching, you MUST use ItExpr rather than It // planning on improving this for vNext mock.Protected() .Setup<string>("Execute", ItExpr.IsAny<string>()) .Returns(true); Let me know if I'm chasing something that doesn't exit.

  • Limit a program's execution time in C (Monte Carlo technique)

    - by rrs90
I am working on a project which has no determined algorithm to solve using C language. I am Using Monte Carlo technique for solving that problem. And the number of random guesses I want to limit to the execution time specified by the user. This means I want to make full use of the execution time limit defined by the user (as a command line argument) to make as many random iterations as possible. Can I check the execution time elapsed so far for a loop condition. Eg: for(trials=0;execution_time P.S. I am using code blocks 10.05 for coding and GNU compiler.

  • Change the size of the text in legend according to the length of the legend vector in the graph

    - by user1021713
I have to draw a 20 plots and horizontally place a legends in each plots. I gave the following command for the first plot: plot(x=1:4,y=1:4) legend("bottom",legend = c("a","b","c","d"),horiz=TRUE,text.font=2,cex=0.64) then for the second plot I tried : plot(x=1:2,y=1:2) legend("bottom",legend = c("a","b"),horiz=TRUE,text.font=2,cex=0.64) But because the size of the character vector passed to legend argument are different I get the size of the legend different. Since I have to plot so many different plots having varying sizes of legends,I would want to do it in an automated fashion. Is there a way to do this which can fix the size of the legend in all the plots and fit it to graph size?

  • confused about python decorators

    - by nbv4
I have a class that has an output() method which returns a matplotlib Figure instance. I have a decorator I wrote that takes that fig instance and turns it into a Django response object. My decorator looks like this: class plot_svg(object): def __init__(self, view): self.view = view def __call__(self, *args, **kwargs): print args, kwargs fig = self.view(*args, **kwargs) canvas=FigureCanvas(fig) response=HttpResponse(content_type='image/svg+xml') canvas.print_svg(response) return response and this is how it was being used: def as_avg(self): return plot_svg(self.output)() The only reason I has it that way instead of using the "@" syntax is because when I do it with the "@": @plot_svg def as_svg(self): return self.output() I get this error: as_svg() takes exactly 1 argument (0 given) I'm trying to 'fix' this by putting it in the "@" syntax but I can't figure out how to get it working. I'm thinking it has something to do with self not getting passed where it's supposed to...

  • Howto set my IServiceLocator implementation as ServiceLocator.Current?

    - by stiank81
I'm working on replacing Unity with Ninject in the Prism framework. This requires me to implement a Ninject specific IServiceLocator. From what I've understood I can inherit the ServiceLocatorImplBase instead, so that's what I do. Now how can I set this to be the Current ServiceLocator? I need this in order to have e.g. the RegionManager get it when it creates regions, and calls: IServiceLocator locator = ServiceLocator.Current; This is a static property, but it doesn't have a setter.. There is a function: void ServiceLocator.SetLocatorProvider(ServiceLocatorProvider newProvider); ..but the argument doesn't match my ServiceLocatorImplBase. Any ideas?

  • Ruby Programming Techniques: simple yet not so simple object manipulation

    - by Shyam
Hi, I want to create an object, let's say a Pie. class Pie def initialize(name, flavor) @name = name @flavor = flavor end end But a Pie can be divided in 8 pieces, a half or just a whole Pie. For the sake of argument, I would like to know how I could give each Pie object a price per 1/8, 1/4 or per whole. I could do this by doing: class Pie def initialize(name, flavor, price_all, price_half, price_piece) @name = name @flavor = flavor @price_all = price_all @price_half = price_half @price_piece = price_piece end end But now, if I would create fifteen Pie objects, and I would take out randomly some pieces somewhere by using a method such as getPieceOfPie(pie_name) How would I be able to generate the value of all the available pies that are whole and the remaining pieces? Eventually using a method such as: myCurrentInventoryHas(pie_name) # output: 2 whole strawberry pies and 7 pieces. I know, I am a Ruby nuby. Thank you for your answers, comments and help!

  • Reading inputs in java

    - by Gandalf StormCrow
Hello everyone I'm trying to improve my Java skills by solving some problems from ACM, now the thing is my sample input looks like this : 3 100 34 100 75 250 27 2147483647 101 304 101 303 -1 -1 So at first I'm just trying to read them but its not working here is the java code: import java.io.BufferedInputStream; import java.util.Scanner; public class Main { public static void main(String args[]) { Scanner stdin = new Scanner(new BufferedInputStream(System.in)); while (stdin.hasNext()) { System.out.println(stdin.nextInt() + " and the next " + stdin.nextInt()); } } } I'm trying to send these inputs as an argument, and not by reading them from file, here is how: The program just spins(executes) but not printing anything. How can I fix this?
