    Hi, I'm at the moment working on a web page where the users who visit it should have the possibility to create an event in my web page's name. There is a Page on Facebook for the web page which should be the owner of the user created event. Is this possible? All users are authenticated using Facebook Connect, but since the event won't be created in their name I don't know if that's so much of help. The Python SDK will be used since the event shall be implemented server side. / D

    I have a task to validate addresses entered into a system I am currently creating. The system requires that address entered are validated against a valid data source. In the UK the dataset comes from the Royal Mail and is expensive to access. The data needed is post code info for the whold of europe to start with accessed by an API into the web application. There are a number of companies that offer this service, QAS Capscan Postcode anywhere These all offer the service I require. However this is expensive and in some cases not a complete data set. e.g. not Ireland I was also wondering if there would be a way to utalis the google maps API to validate this data via postal code and country. Would the google maps method be possible or do I have to go down the line of one of these expensive companies? Any thoughts on what line I should take.

  • Facebook API - Get comments

    Our business has a Facebook Fan Page. The fan page doesn't seem to generate any emails to us when updates are made to the page, whether someone adds a new status or someone comments on one of the statuses etc. Currently, we are running a very crude script to grab the content of the page and then use regular expressions to get the information we require. Obviously this is not fool proof and I'm looking into alternatives to this method. I've been looking at the facebook API and wonder if the rest server might be an option. I cannot, however, seem to find out how to return information of fan page statuses and their comments. Is anyone able to direct me how to use the API to retrieve this information. I am an admin of the fan page. The programming language I'm using is PHP. Many thanks.

    I'm developing a PHP application to retrieve the list of contacts from a GMail account. I'm looking for a solution which would enable the user of my application to provide the login and password to their Gmail account in my application (as opposed to getting redirected to Google) and then automatically do the retrieval. The retrieval process can be run in PHP or JavaScript (which would then feed the list of contacts back to PHP using Ajax). Is it possible to do that? Which JavaScript API should I use for that? Can someone point me at the right chapter in Google Contacts Data API documentation?

    I have trouble using Facebook auth on my website... I'm using the PHP Sdk and I don't understand why I can use some functions like "getLoginUrl"/"getLoginStatusUrl"/"getUser" (with right answers : the facebook session is started, i get the user's facebook ID) and when I want to use something like $me = $facebook->api("/me/permissions"); or just $me = $facebook->api("/me"); there's always an exception and nothing works ... I guess it has something to do with permissions or token maybe, but I don't know what. When the user sign up on my website, I ask permissions I need with this scope : "email,user_about_me,user_location,read_friendlists,publish_stream" A clue that the permissions seem to be ok is that when the exception occures, I ask the user to sign in again (facebook connect) and no window appears as if everything's ok, but still, the page is reloaded and the exception appears again and again... Please help, Thank you !

    Today i installed Ubuntu 10.4 and Eclipse Galileo. Then I downloaded the Android SDK and tried to install all packages via the Android SDK Tools. But unfortunately, only the Target Levels 3, 4, 7 and 8 were available. API Level 5 and 6 are missing. Does anybody know the reason for this? I already did a Google search and there seems to be nobody with the same problem. I also tried to restart it and nothing happens, the API Levels are still missing.

  • How to reduce latency of data sent through a REST api

    I have an application which obtains data in JSON format from one of our other servers. The problem I am facing is, there is is significant delay when when requesting for this information. Since a lot of data is passed (approx 1000 records per request where each record is pretty huge) is there a way that compression would help reducing the speed. If so which compression scheme would you recommend. I read on another thread that they pattern of data also matters a lot on they type of compression that needs to be used. The pattern of data is consistent and resembles the following :desc=>some_description :url=>some_url :content=>some_content :score=>some_score :more_attributes=>more_data Can someone recommend a solution to how I could reduce this delay. They delay is approx 6-8 seconds. I'm using Ruby on Rails to develop this application and the server providing the data uses Python for the most part.

  • Why do we need Web-Api? [closed]

    I was just wondering what the deal is with Asp.net Web-Api. Why did we need a separate type of controller in order to facilitate varying content types for action results? Why wasn't this capability just baked into the ASP.Net MVC base controller? Anyway, I was just wondering if there was a compelling reason to use both types of controllers within the same project, assuming that the project was being freshly created, or if this project structure was due to an inherent technical limitation. Would it be possible to have ApiControllers fulfill the purpose of an MVC Controller in all cases by just serving HTML when that is the specified accept type? It just seems to me like a lot of unnecessary repetition to have to re-implement the same types of actions using both types of controllers if you want those actions to be available to your web application through the API and through the web interface.

  • Configure Django project in a subdirectory using mod_python. Admin not working.

    HI guys. I was trying to configure my django project in a subdirectory of the root, but didn't get things working.(LOcally it works perfect). I followed the django official django documentarion to deploy a project with mod_python. The real problem is that I am getting "Page not found" errors, whenever I try to go to the admin or any view of my apps. Here is my python.conf file located in /etc/httpd/conf.d/ in Fedora 7 LoadModule python_module modules/mod_python.so SetHandler python-program PythonHandler django.core.handlers.modpython SetEnv DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE mysite.settings PythonOption django.root /mysite PythonDebug On PythonPath "['/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs','/var/www/vhosts/mysite.com/httpdocs/mysite'] + sys.path" I know /var/www/ is not the best place to put my django project, but I just want to send a demo of my work in progress to my customer, later I will change the location. For example. If I go to www.domain.com/mysite/ I get the index view I configured in mysite.urls.   • Solving embarassingly parallel problems using Python multiprocessing

    How does one use multiprocessing to tackle embarrassingly parallel problems? Embarassingly parallel problems typically consist of three basic parts: Read input data (from a file, database, tcp connection, etc.). Run calculations on the input data, where each calculation is independent of any other calculation. Write results of calculations (to a file, database, tcp connection, etc.). We can parallelize the program in two dimensions: Part 2 can run on multiple cores, since each calculation is independent; order of processing doesn't matter. Each part can run independently. Part 1 can place data on an input queue, part 2 can pull data off the input queue and put results onto an output queue, and part 3 can pull results off the output queue and write them out. This seems a most basic pattern in concurrent programming, but I am still lost in trying to solve it, so let's write a canonical example to illustrate how this is done using multiprocessing. Here is the example problem: Given a CSV file with rows of integers as input, compute their sums. I would appreciate any insight here as to how you concurrency gurus would approach this problem. Here are some questions I had when thinking about this problem. Bonus points for addressing any/all: Should I have child processes for reading in the data and placing it into the queue, or can the main process do this without blocking until all input is read? Likewise, should I have a child process for writing the results out from the processed queue, or can the main process do this without having to wait for all the results? Should I use a processes pool for the sum operations? If yes, what method do I call on the pool to get it to start processing the results coming into the input queue, without blocking the input and output processes, too? apply_async()? map_async()? imap()? imap_unordered()? Suppose we didn't need to siphon off the input and output queues as data entered them, but could wait until all input was parsed and all results were calculated (e.g., because we know all the input and output will fit in system memory).
