Testing Hibernate DAO, without building the universe around it.

We have an application built using spring/Hibernate/MySQL, now we want to test the DAO layer, but here are a few shortcomings we face. Consider the use case of multiple objects connected to one another, eg: Book has Pages. The Page object cannot exist without the Book as book_id is mandatory FK in Page. For testing a Page I have to create a Book. This simple usecase is easy to manage, but if you start building a Library, till you don't create the whole universe surrounding the Book and Page, you cannot test it! So to test Page; Create Library Create Section Create Genre Create Author Create Book Create Page Now test Page. Is there an easy way to by pass this "universe creation" and just test he page object in isolation. I also want to be able to test HQLs related to Page. eg: SELECT new com.test.BookPage (book.id, page.name) FROM Book book, Page page. JUnit is supposed to run in isolation, so I have to write the whole test case to create the Page. Any tips will be useful.

Struts 1 ActionForm - retrieving a collection from pure HTML

Hi all I have (just like the rest) inherited some struts 1 code. I have had need to add a few more pages to this project. What I cannot figure out is how to map several distinct but similarly natured input elements to the my ActionForm. Let me elaborate. I create a new <Input> element dynamically as the user inputs more and more items (I use the YUI autocomplete form element and for each entered input I add it as an input element to my form and draw a new YUI autocomplete - complex sounding, I know) So... Implementing EAV pattern with Hibernate for User -> Settings relationship

I'm trying to setup a simple EAV pattern in my web app using Java/Spring MVC and Hibernate. I can't seem to figure out the magic behind the hibernate XML setup for this scenario. Problem with JSON, Struts 2 and Ajax.

Hello, I have an apllication with Struts 2, Spring and I want to send JSON as a response to an Ajax request, but my server in not sending the JSON in the response. I have this base package: <package name="myApp-default" extends="struts-default"> <result-types> <result-type name="tiles" class="org.apache.struts2.views.tiles.TilesResult" /> <result-type name="json" class="com.googlecode.jsonplugin.JSONResult"> <param name="enableGZIP">true</param> <param name="noCache">true</param> <param name="defaultEncoding">ISO-8859-1</param> </result-type> </result-types> </package> And another package which extends the previous one. <package namespace="/rest" name="rest" extends="myApp-default"> <action name="login" class="restAction" method="login"> <result type="json"/> </action> So I call with jQuery Ajax and debugging it I see it enters in the Action restAction in the method login and it also enters in the method getJsonData() because I have set two breakpoints and the program is stopped first in login and then in getJsonData. public class RestAction extends BaseAction { private String login; private String password; private String jsonData; public String login() { jsonData = "changed"; return Action.SUCCESS; } //I ommit getter/setters for login and password @JSON(name="jsonData") public String getJsonData() { return jsonData; } public void setJsonData(String jsonData) { this.jsonData = jsonData; } } My ajax looks like this: $.ajax({type: 'GET', url: this_url, data: pars, cache:false, success: handleResponse, error: handleError}); With firebug I see that the response to my request is completely void (though I have seen that the data saved in pars variable has been populated to the action and the methods have been executed correctly). And maybe for that reason my ajax enters in my handleError function where xmlHttpRequest.readyState is 4 and xmlHttpRequest.status is 0. Can anyone tell me what may the problem be? Thanks.

Brainstorming: Weird JPA problem, possibly classpath or jar versioning problem???

I'm seeing a weird error message and am looking for some ideas as to what the problem could be. I'm sort of new to using the JPA. I have an application where I'm using Spring's Entity Manager Factory (LocalContainerEntityManagerFactoryBean), EclipseLink as my ORM provider, connected to a MySQL DB and built with Maven. I'm not sure if any of this matters..... When I deploy this application to Glassfish, the application works as expected. The problem is, I've created a set of stand alone unit tests to run outside of Glassfish that aren't working correctly. I get the following error (I've edited the class names a little) com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity cannot be cast to com.xyz.abc.services.persistence.entity.MyEntity The object cannot be cast to a class of the same type? How can that be? Constructor versus setter injection

Hi, I'm currently designing an API where I wish to allow configuration via a variety of methods. One method is via an XML configuration schema and another method is through an API that I wish to play nicely with Spring. My XML schema parsing code was previously hidden and therefore the only concern was for it to work but now I wish to build a public API and I'm quite concerned about best-practice. It seems that many favor javabean type PoJo's with default zero parameter constructors and then setter injection. The problem I am trying to tackle is that some setter methods implementations are dependent on other setter methods being called before them in sequence. I could write anal setters that will tolerate themselves being called in many orders but that will not solve the problem of a user forgetting to set the appropriate setter and therefore the bean being in an incomplete state. The only solution I can think of is to forget about the objects being 'beans' and enforce the required parameters via constructor injection. An example of this is in the default setting of the id of a component based on the id of the parent components. I am using JUnit 4 to test Dao Access with Spring (annotations) and JPA (hibernate). The datasource is configured through JNDI(Weblogic) with an ORacle(Backend). This persistence is configured with just the name and a RESOURCE_LOCAL transaction-type The application context file contains notations for annotations, JPA config, transactions, and default package and configuration for annotation detection. Java consistent synchronization

We are facing the following problem in a Spring service, in a multi-threaded environment: three lists are freely and independently accessed for Read once in a while (every 5 minutes), they are all updated to new values. There are some dependencies between the lists, making that, for instance, the third one should not be read while the second one is being updated and the first one already has new values ; that would break the three lists consistency. My initial idea is to make a container object having the three lists as properties. Then the synchronization would be first on that object, then one by one on each of the three lists. Dependency Injection: Jetty 7

Hi StackOverflow! My application requires several interface implementations which require a Jetty server to do their job. This is, however, not necessarily the case in every implementations of those interfaces so the Jetty server is only a dependency. Since it would be a huge amount of pain to wrap the entire jetty server with all its logging, connector and Handler configurations, I want to inject the server to those implementations with Spring. I decided that injecting the Server class is not a good idea because an implementation could stop the server even if its required at another location. Currently I inject empty HandlerList classes to those implementations and they register their handlers to avoid those problems. The Problem: Those handlers might interfere with other handlers for example: implementation one might register a handler for /foo and implementation two too... problem. Has anyone used Jetty in such an environment? And how could this problem be solved? Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 406 (Not Acceptable)

I am trying to send json data and get back json data as well. I've <annotation-driven /> configured in my servlet-context.xml and I am using Spring framework version 3.1.0.RELEASE. When I send the request the browser tells me that it is not happy with the data returned from the server and gives me 406 error. And when I see the response from the server I see the whole 406 page returned by tomcat 6 server. Subscribing message sent from another application

I have two Java applications: AppOne and AppTwo. In AppOne, I used a JMS sender to publish a Topic. In both AppOne and AppTwo, I used a JMS MessageListener to subscribe to the message published by AppOne. I used ActiveMQ as my JMS broker and Spring JMS. However, I can only see the echoed message received by AppOne message listener. But I can't see the echoed message received by AppTwo listener. AppOne message listener is in the same application/project as the message publisher. But AppTwo message listener is in a different application/project. The message is: hello world But right now I only see the first line which means only the listener in AppOne got the message. So how to let the listener in AppTwo get the message? The first listener is in the same application as the sender, so it is easy to understand that it can get the message. But how about the second listener which is in a different application? What is the correct way to subscribe to a JMS Topic published in another application?

Cisco ASA: Allowing and Denying VPN Access based on membership to an AD group

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 connecting to an Active Directory server for VPN authentication. Usually we'd restrict this to a particular OU, but in this case users which need access are spread across multiple OUs. So, I'd like to use a group to specify which users have remote access. I've created the group and added the users, but I'm having trouble figuring out how to deny users which aren't in that group. Right now, if someone connects they get assigned the correct group policy "companynamera" if they are in that group, so the LDAP mapping is working. However, users who are not in that group still authenticate fine, and their group policy becomes the LDAP path of their first group, i.e. CN=Domain Users,CN=Users,DC=example,DC=com, and then are still allowed access. How do I add a filter so that I can map everything that isn't "companynamera" to no access? Are there any other Java schedulers besides Quartz(FOSS) and Flux(Commercial)

I am interested in finding out about other job scheduling packages besides Quartz and Flux. Given the plethora of web frameworks i find it perculiar that there is really only one scheduler. Are there others that perhaps are very much unknown/unpopular ? Spring Batch Not really a scheduling solution but rather a batch job coordinator etc. http://static.springsource.org/spring-batch/faq.html#schedulers How does Spring Batch differ from Quartz? Is there a place for them both in a solution? Spring Batch and Quartz have different goals. Spring Batch provides functionality for processing large volumes of data and Quartz provides functionality for scheduling tasks. So Quartz could complement Spring Batch, but are not excluding technologies. A common combination would be to use Quartz as a trigger for a Spring Batch job using a Cron expression and the Spring Core convenience SchedulerFactoryBean .

Hibernate session problem for transactions.

Hi all, I am new to hibernate and trying integrate hibernate with an existing spring based application. I configured session factory and transaction manager, transaction proxy template. I am also using Quartz scheduler in this application. When I run the application, I am getting the following exception. javax.validation.ConstraintViolationException: validation failed for classes during update time for groups

Hello all! I have a Java / Spring MVC 3 application, using Hibernate and a MySQL database. In my controller, I have this source code: Set<ConstraintViolation<Person>> failures = validator.validate(p); if (failures.isEmpty()) { Project project = this.projectService.findProjectById(projectid); Person newPerson = this.personService.addPerson(p); Set<Person> persons = this.personService.getAllPersonsByProjectId(projectid); persons.add(newPerson); project.setPersons(persons); Set<ConstraintViolation<Project>> failures1 = validator.validate(project); if (!failures1.isEmpty()) { System.out.println("ERROR"); } else { System.out.println("NO ERROR"); } this.projectService.updateProject(project); return Collections.singletonMap("person", newPerson); } Project and Person are a many-to-many relation annotated with @manytomany and Project is the mapping owner. The new Person is added, but on the line with this.projectService.updateProject(project); I get an error. What it does it this in a Dao Hibernate implementation: public void updateProject(Project p) { SessionFactory sessionFactory = HibernateUtil.getSessionFactory(); Session sess = sessionFactory.getCurrentSession(); Transaction tx = sess.beginTransaction(); sess.update(p); tx.commit(); } It failed on the line tx.commit();. My check with if (!failures1.isEmpty()) { tell me that there are nor errors in my project. So what's wrong here? And why there is a validation of my project? HttpsCookieFilter - IllegalStateException: getOutputStream() has already been called for this response

Following exception is thrown every once in a while and it shows up in localhost log file in tomcat log directory. If anyone know how to get rid of it, all help would be appreciated. BTW the filter is working fine I just don't know why this exception is happening. The reason for integrating this filter comes from Spring security FAQs: I'm using Tomcat (or some other servlet container) and have enabled HTTPS for my login page, switching back to HTTP afterwards. It doesn't work - I just end up back at the login page after authenticating. This happens because sessions created under HTTPS, for which the session cookie is marked as “secure”, cannot subsequently be used under HTTP. The browser will not send the cookie back to the server and any session state will be lost (including the security context information). Starting a session in HTTP first should work as the session cookie won't be marked as secure.
