  • Making a C# w/ WPF multiple frame text / pseudo-calendar GUI application [closed]

    I am editing a recently asked question and making it specific, taking the advice of some people here. I would like to program of the following simple form: The user can produce X number of resizable frames (analogous to HTML frames). Each frame serves as a simple text editor, which you can type into and save the whole configuration including resized windows and text. The user should be able alternately "freeze" and present the information, and "unfreeze" and edit frames. I want to use C## with WPF, in Microsoft's Visual C#. I do not yet know this language. I am sure I can pick up the syntax, but I would like to ask about some general advice for how to structure such a program. I have never made a GUI program, let alone one that interfaces with a notepad or some basic text editor. Can someone either direct me to a good resource that will teach me how to do the above? Or outline the basic ingredients that such a program will require, keeping in mind that though I know some C and Python, I have no experience with GUIs or advanced programming generally? In particular I don't know how to incorporate this "text editor" aspect of the program, as well as the resizable frames I would greatly appreciate any help.

  • How to handle editing a large file for a non-technical user

    I have a client who is given a tab delimited .txt file containing hundreds of thousands of rows. I have a user story as follows: As a user I want to take the text file and add a new value at the end of each line which contains the concatenated value of two of the columns. for example if the file read text_one text_two I need to output the following (preferably to a .txt file) text_one text_two text_onetext_two My first approach was to ask the vendor supplying the file to do the concatenation before providing the file, the easiest way to solve a problem is to eliminate it right? however they are very uncooperative and have point blank refused. I've looked at building a simple javascript application that does this client side so a non-technical user could select the file using a file selector. This approach has a few problems The file could be over a GB in size and so can't be loaded straight into memory, I've tried and the browser crashes There is no means to write a file in javascript so I'd need to output the content to the screen and have the user save it (somehow) I was thinking if I could get around the filesize limitations I could just output the edited content to the page and have the user save the page as a .txt file, however I think there is a better way than using javascript that will still accommodate the users lack of technical know-how. Please consider this question to be stack agnostic, but bear in mind that a nice little shell script or python script would be deemed unsuitable for a non technical user unless there is a way of "packaging" it nicely for a non-technical user. Updates The file is too large to open in excel. The process needs to be run weekly, but it doesn't require scheduling or automation...(yet)

    I want to use a server as a device to run a script to parse a SMS text in the following way. I. The person types in a specific and special cell phone number (Similar to Facebook’s 32556 number used to post on your wall) II. The user types a text message. III. The user sends the text message. IV. The message is sent to some kind of Device (the server) or SMS Gateway and receives it. V. The thing described above that the message is sent to then parse the test message. I understand that these three question will mix Programming and Server Stuff and could reside here or at DBA.SE How would I make such a cell phone number (described in step I) that would be sent to the Device? How do I create the device that then would receive it? Finally, how do I Parse the text message? I don't want to pay for cloud space, server scripting stuff or server space; I want to just use a free webserver to do this totally free - meaning I will have to do more on my own...   • Is there a workaround to the disappearing Perl/Tk text widget scrollbar for right justified content?

    I've come across a bug I believe in Perl/Tk 804.027 Text Widget (using Scrollable('ROText')). When I add a tag that selects all and apply the configuration change to justify to the right, the scrollbars do not show up. If I comment out the tagConfigure where I justify to the right, the scrollbars come back. Does anyone have a workaround or fix for being able to right justify a text widget's contents (includes text and embedded entry widgets) and still have functional horizontal scrollbars?

    Hi there guys I'm new to LINQ and I'm trying to check whether a TEXT column is null or empty (as String.IsNullOrEmpty). from c in ... ... select new { c.Id, HasBio = !String.IsNullOrEmpty(c.bio) } Trying to use the above query produces an SqlException: Argument data type text is invalid for argument 1 of len function. The SQL generated is similar to the following: CASE WHEN ( NOT (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0))) THEN cast(1 as bit) WHEN (([Extent2].[bio] IS NULL) OR (( CAST(LEN([Extent2].[bio]) AS int)) = 0)) THEN cast(0 as bit) END AS [C1] LEN is not applicable to TEXT columns. I know DATALENGTH should be used for them... How can I force LINQ to produce such thing? Or any other workaround to test if a text column is null or empty??? Thanks!

  • How come, diffrent text files become diffrent sizes after compression ?

    I have file of some random text size = 27 gb and after compression it becomes 40 mb or so. And a 3.5 GB sql file become 45 Mb after compression. But a 109 mb text file become 72 mb after compression so what can be wrong with it. Why so less compressed, it must 10 mb or so , or i am missing something . All files as i can see is English text only and and some grammar symbols (/ , . - = + etc) Can you tell why ? If not can you tell how can i super compress a text file ? I can code in PHP , np in that.

    I'm doing a typical full text search using containstable using 'ISABOUT(term1,term2,term3)' and although it supports term weighting that's not what I need. I need the ability to boost the relevancy of terms contained in certain portions of text. For example, it is customary for metatags or page title to be weighted differently than body text when searching web pages. Although I'm not dealing with web pages I do seek the same functionality. In Lucene it's called Document Field Level Boosting. How would one natively do this in Sql Server Full Text Search?

  • How do I automatically delete an Excel file after creating it on a server and returning it to the us

    Hello, I am creating an Excel file on a web server, using OleDb to connect the the physical (well as physical as it can be) file and appending records. I am then returning a FilePathResult to the user via MVC, and would like to delete the physical file afterwards due to data protection concerns over the appended records. I have tried using a File.Delete in a Finally clause but I get a File Not Found error which must mean the file has gone when MVC is trying to send the file to the user. I thought about creating the File as a MemoryStream but I think OleDb needs a physical file to connect to so this isn't an option. Any suggestions on how to delete the file after returning it in one operation? Thanks

    Our webapp has a form with fields and values that change depending on values entered. Each time there is a change event on one of the form elements, we use an expensive AJAX call to update other elements on the page. This works great for selects, radio buttons and checkboxes. The issue comes in when a user adds content to a text field, and then clicks a link without taking the focus from the text field. The browser moves to a new page, and the contents of the text field are never saved. Is there an easy way to code around this? The AJAX call is too expensive to call with each key press.   • I am using jquery ajax using text() but any html written in the XML doesn't render?

    So I have Jquery Ajax working real nice, but an issue I am having is in my XML if I want to bold a work or Italicize a sentence, if I do it in the XML using HTML tags it will not show up.   • Are there libraries or techniques for collecting and weighing keywords from a block of text?

    I have a field in my database that can contain large blocks of text. I need to make this searchable but don't have the ability to use full text searching. Instead, on update, I want my business layer to process the block of text and extract keywords from it which I can save as searchable metadata. Ideally, these keywords could then be weighed based on the number of times they appear in the block of text. Naturally, words like "the", "and", "of", etc. should be discarded as they just add a lot of noise to the search. Are there tools or libraries in Python that can do this filtering or should I roll my own?

    I have a ~23000 line sql dump containing several databases worth of data. I need to extract a certain section of this file (i.e. the data for a single database) and place it in a new file. I know both the start and end line numbers of the data that I want. Does anyone know a unix command (or series of commands) to extract all lines from a file between say line 16224 and 16482 and then redirect them into a new file?

    Ok, so my asset pipeline has suddenly started acting up on my development machine. JS functions that previously worked are now throwing "not a function" errors.. I know I must be doing something wrong. A minute ago the datatables jquery function was working, then it was throwing an error, then it was working, and now it's not working or throwing an error. I tried removing the yield but things were still broken, even after clearing the browser cache and running rake assets:clean (just to be on the safe side).
