  • Google Analytics on Demo Site

    - by Josh Smith
Will adding the UA code of the live site to a revision site affect anything adversely? They are, technically, two different sites with different metrics. I don't want to lose the old data when I initiate the new site, of course. I would also like to work on setting up the new analytics page while the revision site is in development. Does anyone have any good workflows on setting up a revision site without losing old site data?

  • Finding privacy sensitive keywords

    - by user69914
I have a list of about 80,000 unique words or short phrases. These words and short phrases are associated with other data. I'm trying to create a blacklist so I won't use any of the data associated with privacy sensitive words or short phrases. Example sensitive words or short phrases might be associated with sexual or illicit activity. I know that privacy and sensitivity are in the eye of the beholder, but I'm looking for any established list or solutions of this nature.

  • Filling a Grid with Files in a Folder - C#

    This code sample shows, in C#, how to get all the files within a specific folder, and list them all, including the file size, in a Gridview control. To access the FileSystem, you’ll need to import the System.IO namespace, and to use a DataTable, you must import the System.Data namespace: using System.IO; using System.Data;

  • Entity Framework 5, separating business logic from model - Repository?

    - by bnice7
I am working on my first public-facing web application and I’m using MVC 4 for the presentation layer and EF 5 for the DAL. The database structure is locked, and there are moderate differences between how the user inputs data and how the database itself gets populated. I have done a ton of reading on the repository pattern (which I have never used) but most of my research is pushing me away from using it since it supposedly creates an unnecessary level of abstraction for the latest versions of EF since repositories and unit-of-work are already built-in. My initial approach is to simply create a separate set of classes for my business objects in the BLL that can act as an intermediary between my Controllers and the DAL. Here’s an example class: public class MyBuilding { public int Id { get; private set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Notes { get; set; } private readonly Entities _context = new Entities(); // Is this thread safe? private static readonly int UserId = WebSecurity.GetCurrentUser().UserId; public IEnumerable<MyBuilding> GetList() { IEnumerable<MyBuilding> buildingList = from p in _context.BuildingInfo where p.Building.UserProfile.UserId == UserId select new MyBuilding {Id = p.BuildingId, Name = p.BuildingName, Notes = p.Building.Notes}; return buildingList; } public void Create() { var b = new Building {UserId = UserId, Notes = this.Notes}; _context.Building.Add(b); _context.SaveChanges(); // Set the building ID this.Id = b.BuildingId; // Seed 1-to-1 tables with reference the new building _context.BuildingInfo.Add(new BuildingInfo {Building = b}); _context.GeneralInfo.Add(new GeneralInfo {Building = b}); _context.LocationInfo.Add(new LocationInfo {Building = b}); _context.SaveChanges(); } public static MyBuilding Find(int id) { using (var context = new Entities()) // Is this OK to do in a static method? { var b = context.Building.FirstOrDefault(p => p.BuildingId == id && p.UserId == UserId); if (b == null) throw new Exception("Error: Building not found or user does not have access."); return new MyBuilding {Id = b.BuildingId, Name = b.BuildingInfo.BuildingName, Notes = b.Notes}; } } } My primary concern: Is the way I am instantiating my DbContext as a private property thread-safe, and is it safe to have a static method that instantiates a separate DbContext? Or am I approaching this all wrong? I am not opposed to learning up on the repository pattern if I am taking the total wrong approach here.

  • Creating a Reporting Services Histogram Chart for Statistical Distribution Analysis

Typically transactional data is quite detailed and analyzing an entire dataset on a graph is not feasible. Generally such data is analyzed using some form of aggregation or frequency distribution. One of the specialized charts generally used in Reporting Services for statistical distribution is Histogram Charts. In this tip we look at how Histogram Charts can be used for statistical distribution analysis and how to create and configure this type of chart in SSRS.

  • User input and Automated input seperation

    - by tpaksu
I have a mysql db and I have an automation script which modifies the data inside once a day. And, these columns may have changed by an user manually. What is the best approach to make the system only update the automated data, not the manually edited ones? I mean yes, flagging the cell which is manually edited is one way to do it, but I want to know if there's another way to accomplish this? Just curiosity.

  • Free web "caching" services for a web service

    - by Jason Banico
I have a web service on Google App engine whose data is updated on a daily basis. To minimize bandwidth utilization from mobile clients connecting to it, I'd like to instead have an intermediary site where the clients will be getting their data from, and minimizing hits to my service to once or twice a day only. Is there such a service I can use? I'd like to explore this "pull" option first, before considering "push" options such as publishing to a blog site or a free website host that doesn't have bandwidth caps.

  • Caching issue with Centos forwarding DNS server

    - by Paddington
    I installed a Forwarding DNS server on Centos 5.10 and it is resolving addresses e.g google.com. When I stopped named (service named stop) and tried to dig (dig @localhost A google.com) there was a failure to resolve the address. I checked and see the caching daemon nscd is running. Does this mean the server is not caching at all? How can I get it to cache? named.conf options { // Those options should be used carefully because they disable port // randomization // query-source port 53; // query-source-v6 port 53; // Put files that named is allowed to write in the data/ directory: listen-on port 53 {127.0.0.1; 10.0.0.4;}; directory "/var/named"; // the default dump-file "/var/named/chroot/var/named/data/cache_dump.db"; statistics-file "/var/named/chroot/var/named/data/named_stats.txt"; memstatistics-file "/var/named/chroot/var/named/data/named_mem_stats.txt"; // allow-query {localhost; 192.168.0.0/24; 10.0.0.0/8;}; recursion yes; //allow-query { localhost; 10.0.0.0/8;}; allow-query { localhost; any; }; allow-query-cache { localhost; any; }; forward only; forwarders {8.8.8.8; 8.8.4.4;}; dnssec-enable yes; // dnssec-lookaside auto; /* Path to ISC DLV key */ // bindkeys-file "/etc/named.iscdlv.key"; // managed-keys-directory "/var/named/dynamic"; }; logging { channel default_debug { file "data/named.run"; severity dynamic; }; }; **

  • Pseudo-magnet implementation with chipmunk

    - by Eimantas
How should I go about implementing "natural" magnet on a certain body in chipmunk space? Context is of simple bodies lying in the space (think chessboard). When one of the figures is activated as a magnet - others should start moving towards it. Currently I'm applying force (cpBodyApplyForce)to the other figures with vector calculated towards the activated figure. However this doesn't really feel "natural". Are there any known algorithms for imitating magnets?

  • SSIS Basics: Using the Merge Join Transformation

SSIS is able to take sorted data from more than one OLE DB data source and merge them into one table which can then be sent to an OLE DB destination. This 'Merge Join' transformation works in a similar way to a SQL join by specifying a 'join key' relationship. this transformation can save a great deal of processing on the destination. Annette Allen, as usual, gives clear guidance on how to do it.
