I'm studying Oracle database and have to do some exercises with default "HR" schema. But I think that data in my tables is changed from default values (many students have access to DB and may be someone changed data). Where can I get SQL to construct default "HR" schema?
Hi,
I have a PHP script that runs database queries. Now, if a query fails, should I trigger an error or throw an exception? I noticed that if I do the latter, the script execution will stop after facing the exception.
My code is as follows:
if (!$this->connection[0]->query($this->query))
throw new Exception($this->connection[0]->error);
What are the pros and cons of using exceptions for this kind of cases (failed queries)?
Trying to understand something. I created a d:\svn\repository on my server. I committed folders but when I go back to d:\svn\repository I do not see them. Are they all in a database? Will all my repositories go in that main folder and svn tracks them? What if I have two projects?
Thank you.
I'm putting a Drupal project on an open source hosting site. What files do I have to not put up there so I don't compromise my site's security?
Various settings.php comes to mind. And obviously the database itself won't be in a repository. Anything else dangerous?
I'm running Drupal 6.
For what x is
The expression x IS NOT NULL is not equal to NOT(x IS NULL), as is the case in 2VL
(quote from this answer, which is quoting Fabian Pascal Practical Issues in Database Management - A Reference for the Thinking Practitioner -- near the end of that answer)
My guess is when x IS NULL is NULL, but I cannot guess when that would be (i.e. I haven't checked the SQL standard).

Having understood some of the advantages that NoSQL offers (scalability, availability, etc.), I am still not clear why a website would want to use a non-relational database.
Can I get some help on this, preferably with an example?
I've a question regarding Oracle database SQL.
my employee each have a project, the end date of the project depends on the no of months that was given to them base on PTerm. Am i right to do it this way?
CREATE TABLE PROJECT ( P_ID VARCHAR ( 20 ) NOT NULL,
PNAME VARCHAR ( 100 ) NOT NULL,
PTERM VARCHAR ( 20 ),
PSTARTDATE DATE,
PENDDATE DATE,
CONSTRAINT PROJECT_PKEY PRIMARY KEY ( P_ID ),
CONSTRAINT PROJECT_PTERM CHECK
( PTERM IN ('1 MONTH', '2 MONTH', '3 MONTH') ),
CONSTRAINT PROJECT_ENDDATE CHECK
( PENDDATE = (PSTARTDATE + PTERM) ) );
Hi,
I have the following table in an access database
id VisitNo Weight
1 1 100
1 2 95
1 3 96
1 4 94
1 5 93
Now row 2 and 4 are deleted. So i have...
id VisitNo Weight
1 1 100
1 3 96
1 5 93
However what i need is...
id VisitNo Weight
1 1 100
1 2 96
1 3 93
What is the SQL query i need to accomplish the above?
thanks
Here is te code:
<?php
//Starting session
session_start();
//Includes mass includes containing all the files needed to execute the full script
//Also shows homepage elements without customs
require_once ('includes/mass.php');
$username = $_SESSION['username'];
if (isset($username))
{
//Query database for the users networths
$sq_l = "SELECT * FROM user";
$sql_query_worth = mysql_query($sq_l);
while ($row = mysql_fetch_assoc($sql_query_worth))

}
echo $dbusername;
}
?>
I've moved database from one SQL Server instance on a machine to another machine completely. Is there any way to forward requests to the new server automatically so it doesn't require client config changes? Keep in mind it's only one DB out of many on the original server so I can't just forward all requests.
I am very new to Hibernate. I have MySQL database and mapped pojos. What should I do next? I know little bit LINQ to SQL from .NET, and it generates me List of mapped objects.
So basically, what are my next steps after creating POJOS if I want to have List of them and do CRUD operations upon them and data will be also saved in DB not only in java objects ?
kthx
I have an app which, for good reasons, can only be debugged on a device. I'm using Core Data for the first time, and I'd like to be able to easily inspect the records that are stored by the app on the device.
I imagine that Core Data is by default backed by SQLite on the iPhone, so this question might be as simple as asking: "What's the easiest way to extract the SQLite database for an app installed by Xcode without jailbreaking it?"
Any experience someone could lend regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
I want to generate Entity Framework 4.0 classes from a (legacy) database from a command line, but I have 2 transformations I want:
Tables/columns are lowerCamelCase and I want my classes/members to be UpperCamelCase.
I want to suffix my classes with "Dto".
Any idea how this might be accomplished? I'm a total newbie to EF, but I have a decent understanding of Linq to Sql and was able to accomplish the same task by doing: sqlmetal - dbml - xml mapping file and .cs file.
In some languages (ColdFusion comes to mind), you can run a query on the result set from a previous query. Is it possible to do something like that in php (with MySQL as the database)?
I sort of want to do:
$rs1 = do_query( "SELECT * FROM animals WHERE type = 'fish'" );
$rs2 = do_query( "SELECT * FROM rs1 WHERE name = 'trout'" );
Hi

XML is used as one of our main integration points. it comes over by many clients at a time but too many clients importing at the same time can slow down our database to a crawl.
Someone has to have solved a problem like this.
I am basically using VB to parse through the data and import what i want and don't want.
Is there a better way?
Ok, so I'm in need to restore a table and I do:
mysqldump --opt database table_name < table_name.sql
I hit enter and Done! Well, not really, when I go to see if there is anything on the table it show 0 records.
I have look into the table_name.sql and I see two records.
What am I doing wrong?
what algorithms should I explore to implement a feature which lets a user find other user located near him , the latitude and the longitudes of all the user are known in advance and are fixed [not dynamic].
Also i believe that there should be a better way to store such data then simply storing the lat , long of the user against his user id in a database.What are the efficient ways to handle this ?
I get data from a database in YYYY-mm-dd format, but I want to show just dd.mm (example - I get 2010-05-28; I want to show 28.05)
Could you help me?
Thanks

I am currently building a site and all the books I have read on PHP so far are just on functionality and not much on security. Is there a book that deals specifically with making your code/site secure? I don't want to go public and the next day have all my code changed or my database erased by SQL injection.
thanks
