  Possible Duplicate: What is REST (in simple English) What does RESTful web applications mean? A web service is a function that can be accessed by other programs over the web (Http). To clarify a bit, when you create a website in PHP that outputs HTML its target is the browser and by extension the human being reading the page in the browser. A web service is not targeted at humans but rather at other programs. SOAP and REST are two ways of creating WebServices. Correct me if i am wrong? What are other ways i can create a WebService? What does it mean fully RESTful web Application?

  I am using enchantJS and would like to use the letters and numbers as well as numpad on a keyboard to do different things (eg: hotkeys). From this page http://users.csc.calpoly.edu/~foaad/enchant/guide/playerInput.html By default, enchant.js provides input listeners for six buttons: UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, A, and B. By default, the directions are bound to the arrow keys. Any of the six buttons may also be bound to any key with an ASCII value. We’ll address that later. So enchant provides the ability to bind keys to different input such as up, down, left, right...but how can I simply check whether the D or X key was pressed, and if so, perform certain actions based on that event?

  When I search my site on alexa, it says "Alexa Traffic Rank: No Data". So I google the issue. I come across this page: http://www.loudable.com/my-website-data-not-showing-in-alexa-get-your-website-crawled-by-alexasolution.html It says to get site indexed, click Crawl my site on the webmasters page. However there is no longer a link that says "Crawl my site". So as of now, does anyone know how to get site indexed by alexa so that my traffic rank will display on alexa index?

  I set up an AdWords campaign for website following the instructions for Google AdWords ValueTrack. One of the things that it is supposed to be able to do is pass the keyword as a URL parameter using the code {keyword} in the URL. I set it up for integration with Google Analytics such the landing URLs would look like: http://example.com/landing.html?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=%7Bkeyword%7D&utm_content=my_content&utm_campaign=my_page where {keyword} is in the utm_term parameter. Hower, this keyword substitution isn't happening. Why?

  I've been in touch recently with Ann Maybury, who is creating a golf tournament roundrobin manager for senior citizens in Palm Desert, California. The application is created on the NetBeans Platform and looks as follows, very neat and professional: Ann has been working on wrapping up the application for distribution and needs to include the JRE, since end users of the application don't necessarily have the JRE installed when they install the application. Several blogs and articles are available for creating and customizing installers for NetBeans Platform applications, as well as for bundling the JRE and other resources, though there are some gaps and inccuracies in those documents. However, now there's a new official tutorial, for the first time: http://platform.netbeans.org/tutorials/nbm-nbi.html The above is focused on Ant builds and Windows, specifically, and doesn't cover Maven scenarios, for which there'll be a separate tutorial soon. Brings USB 2.0 emulation and more!I upgraded the version on my Solaris Express (get that from : http://www.oracle.com/solaris/index.html and follow the Download Solaris Express link on the right) laptop (pfexec pkgrm SUNWvbox and then pfexec pkgadd -d the .pkg in the compressed archive file, and install the extensions from the VBox GUI once it's launched). If you are on an old fashion OS without proper RBAC, replace pfexec by sudo. Which you can also do on Solaris if you really want to. :)I tell you, it's Christmas, for sure!Merry VBox!Gilles.

• Webm videos converted with avconv not working properly

  I'm converting mp4 videos to webm with the following command: avconv -i INPUT.mp4 -c:v libvpx -qmin 10 -qmax 42 -maxrate 500k -bufsize 1000k -threads 2 -c:a libvorbis OUTPUT.webm Am I doing something wrong? Should I use all of these parameters? I just want to make the videos compatible with all the browsers/devices. The videos are not working on Firefox on most devices and on Chrome in a specific Android device that I have. EDIT: When i play the embeded videos on firefox, on any android device, it goes straight to the end and doesn't play. It only plays if i click in the progress bar. If i open the videos on firefox without embedding them in a html page, they seem to have a bigger width box outside then, while the video is inside it. I uploaded a video that i converted. • HP mini 5102 Ethernet does not work after suspend on Lubuntu 12.10

  Ethernet works fine after system is rebooted The onboard card is seen in 'lspci' as: 43:00.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Yukon Optima 88E8059 [PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller with AVB] (rev 11) After system being suspended the sky2 driver loads but does not enable the NIC. I have noticed that it happens when PC is left suspended for longer period of time (few houres) Trying to reproduce it I have tried to load the sky2 driver with 'modprobe sky2'. Unfortunately typing 'ifconfig -a' for the onboard ethernet adapter does not list the driver once the sky2 driver is loaded. I have searched internet and I found some information about a bug in kernel. Hovewer it was reported in 2010 so I hope it has been fixed. • Are there any open source projects for car engine sound simulation?

  I have been thinking how to create realistic sound for a car. The main sound is the engine, then all kind of wind, road and suspension sounds. Are there any open source projects for the engine sound simulation? Simply pitching up the sample does not sound too great. The ideal would be to something that allows me to pick type of the engine (i.e. inline-4 vs v-8), add extras like turbo/supercharger whine and finally set the load and rpm.   I have problem with Google Chrome and Theora video. I have video that plays nice in Opera and Firefox. However, it doesn't play in Google browser and I don't know why. I've made this video in ogg2theora. Test sample: http://wwsi.edu.pl/video/enigma.html Does anyone know how should I encode to Theora that Google Chrome works? P.S. I am not interested in encoding in WebM or h.264, this time. I am not asking what is the best way to publish video on a website. I only do experiments with Ogg Theora. • Where to find Joomla components for 1.0.X?

  I need to add new functionality to an old Joomla 1.0.15 installation. To be concrete, I need to add a component that allows me to add custom javascript to my content. I know that there is the option to edit the html source of the content but I rather would like to use a module for this. So I see two options (correct me if there are more): Update Joomla to at least version 1.5 (From some forum posts I found out that can be somewhat complicated). I don't know if it is worth the effort since new functionality requirements come rarely (and I think my client doesn't want to pay for a Joomla version update). Find an appropriate component and leave the old installation as it is. Can anyone point me into the right direction?

• Scale DIV with tiles

  I am trying to create a repeating background. I have a main DIV with a grid of small 16x16 DIVs. I am trying to scale the main DIV in CSS; when the small DIVs simply have a red background color everything works great, but when there is a background image in the small DIVs then borders become visible between the tiles. • How can I test for a URLs existeance before redirecting to it?

  I am using Apache's mod_rewrite to redirect mobile users to my mobile site based on their http_user_agent. However not all pages have a mobile equivalent. Also mobile pages end in .html and "full" pages end in .shtml. Here is some pseudo code. Does the user have a certain HTTP_USER_AGENT? Is there a mobile page? If so take them there. If not, no redirection is needed. I want to do this with apache.

• Plug-in or framework recommendation for showing content preview fly-over in CMS

  The requirement is to have either front end plug-in or back end processor that generates the preview of contents (such as images, videos, PDF files, HTML pages) in a preview popup when user mouse hovers the content. I did some research on this, seems that there are assorted jquery plugins for each type of files, but what we are looking for is a framework that handles all types of file previews. Ideally, we want to generate preview images on the backend, considering the cost of retrieving content on front end. I did find some open source or proprietary CMS that provides this feature, but usually they are shipped as one suite and the API for file preview might not be open. Is there any java or jquery framework that handles file preview? Thanks a lot

  I wanted to alert everyone to the new look of the Geekswithblogs.net Community Page.  I removed the tabs, cleaned up the posts and fonts, replaced the logo with our brighter logo, and mucked with the CSS and HTML to drive a smaller footprint.  With this update, the homepage is now HALF THE SIZE in KBs!  I still have some more AJAX calls I want to implement to make the footprint even smaller. Let me know what you think.  I feel it is easier to read through the posts now.

• What do you need to know to get a job as a web developer [closed]

  What do you need to know to at the very least get your foot in the door? We're assuming for someone who doesn't have a college degree (yet) but will eventually get one. My guess is html, css, javascript, and php, and photoshop and dreamweaver, and sql. And being familiar with using a web host to have sites live, like knowing how to use cpanel. It's probably a very inaccurate and narrow guess but that's what i think right now. I don't know exactly.
