• Powershell variables to string

  I'm new to powershell. I'm trying to write an error handler to wrap around my script.  Part of the error handler is dumping out some variable settings.  I spent a while trying to do this and couldn't google a complete solution so I thought I'd post something. I want to display the $myinvocation variable. • Email alerts when hard drive fails on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (PERC5I, SAS)?

  I recently purchased a used Dell PowerEdge 2950. I setup the hard drives in RAID-5 configuration. I want to be able to get an email alert if one of the drives fails. I have been trying to determine what the easiest way to setup an email alert would be. The controller card is listed as PERC5I, SAS PowerEdge. From my numerous Google searches, it looks like I need to install Dell OpenManage Essentials. However ,this looks to be a giant application with tons of bells & whistles for managing many servers, when all I really want is something for this one server. Can anyone offer me any insight into what I could do?

• Audigy 2 Coaxial to Coaxial/Optical connection possible?

  Hello, The original question is deleted, and asked again below with accurate information. Edit: Excuse me for my ignorance, my friend has a Logitech Z-5500 set. I thought after comparing those systems on Google images that he had the Z-680, but he hasn't. This set has a single Digital coaxial for DVD or CD players or PC sound cards (requires coaxial cable, sold separately) cable. This single cable was connected to the orange tulip connector (SPDIF coaxial out) on the backside of his onboard HP Elite m9070, this connector is broken. How can I use the digital out with a single cable coaxial cable on the Audigy2 (see image below) (I have the following converters for my disposal, can I use one of these? 3.5 mm male - coax optical mini optical male - toslink optical female 2 x toslink optical female, toslink coupler, optical audio extension note: Is it possible to connect a toslink cable with an mini optical male - toslink converter on the digital out of the Audigy 2? (see image below)

• OpenVPN stopped working, what could have happened?

  I have Openvpn, and it worked great when I used it on PC (Windows 8), then I copied all files (Certificates and config) to an Android 4 phone to use them. Now, Openvpn works on the phone, but not the PC. Specifically, when I open Google I get: The server at www.google.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed, but the VPN seems to be connected. I have a simple question, could the problem be because I copied the same files? I have been asked by a non-profit to look at developing a game similar to the award-winning www.playspent.org They want the following features: support 5 scenarios mobile isn't important but compatibility with older browsers would be a big bonus they want it to be visual and audible bonus is to have it easily modifiable support 4 languages I don't have much knowledge of Flash and would rather avoid using it as a solution. I started breaking down the problem into segments that I will need to examine, they are as follows: ability to read the game flow from a file that they can produce (xml, etc.) db design to store decision tree language challenge browser compatibility I am leaning towards an Google app engine/GWT solution but I am not sure what technology is best for this. I am really hoping to get your opinion/recommendation on my approach and on what technology is best.   I currently am trying to get my domain verified on Amazon's SES and running int a problem that google searches are not helping me get any closer to solving. According to SES, I have to create a TXT record in my DNS for the domain I'm trying to verify. Amazon gives you the following (value changed for security purposes); TYPE: TXT NAME: _amazonses.somedomain.com VALUE: M2sXTycXkgZXXuMuWI8TczngaPIDDMToPefzGhZ3uYA= I have tried numerous entries in my registrar's DNS manager, but SES still fails to find what it's looking for. I am not a DNS guru, so, I have tried to construct the TXT record from very sparse examples, at best, to try to get this right. • Desktop forgets theme?

  I am running Ubuntu in VirtualBox (on a Windows 7 host). Several times now, the top-level menu bar, the task bar — and seemingly every system dialog — have forgotten the out-of-the-box "Ambiance" theme they conform to when I first installed the system. Window captions still preserve the theme, but pretty much nothing else does. I have searched high and low on Google for assistance with this problem. Everything I've found suggests either running some gconf reset or deleting .gconf* .gnome* and other similar directories. I have followed all this advice and nothing works. I still get a boring Windows-95-style gray 3D look and feel. On previous occasions, after much messing around I've given up and rebooted the VM instance, and been pleasantly suprised to see the original "Ambience" theme restored throughout the UI, but invariably it disappears again some time later, usually after a reboot, so I can never figure out what I did that broke it. Here's a sample from Ubuntu's site of what I want it to look like. And here's a screenshot of my system as it currently looks. Also note that my GNOME Terminals normally have a nice purple semi-translucent look, and as can be seen from the screenshot, they are now just a solid matte white. This last time (just yesterday), trying numerous combinations all the usual tricks and rebooting several times hasn't fixed it, so here I am on SU wondering: How do I recover the out-of-the-box theme for my Gnome/Ubuntu desktop, noting that blowing away all config files — as suggested in many places online — fails to achieve this? It might help to know that it seems to fail either after I resize the VM instance, forcing the Ubuntu desktop to resize itself, or after I play around with Compiz settings. I haven't been able to figure out which of these it is, and it could be neither. Given the amount of pain I have had to go through to get things back to normal (and given that I am at a loss as to how to do so), it has proven difficult to definitively isolate the cause.

Lots of times to there was no obvious reason why stuff wasn't working and I had to Google to discover why. Given that most casual users will disable or weaken security when it appears to get in the way, with the exclusion of serious, enterprisey Redhat users, is SELinux really useful? PS. Is there some tool that helps you log, track and manage SELinux issues across all applications? In spite of being an Ubuntu user I am a closet Fedora fan.

• Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 Scroll Not Working

  I have a Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000 with Intellipiont 7.1 installed on Windows 7 x64. The scroll has stopped working before, but a restart or two always seemed to resolve it. I tested the mouse on another computer and it worked. I also tested an Microsoft Arc mouse on this computer and the scroll worked. I have checked everything I could find on google and nothing helps. I have reinstalled intellipoint two times. Tried to change my mouse to another model in the intellipoint settings as suggested in many forums. Nothing. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Otherwise, I think my next step is to pitch this mouse and get a logitech at Best Buy tomorrow.

  I recently read an article about light indexed deferred rendering from here: http://code.google.com/p/lightindexed-deferredrender/ It explains its ideas in a clear way, but there was one point that I failed to understand. It in fact is one of the most interesting ones, as it explains how to implement transparency with this approach: Typically when rendering light volumes in deferred rendering, only surfaces that intersect the light volume are marked and lit. This is generally accomplished by a “shadow volume like” technique of rendering back faces – incrementing stencil where depth is greater than – then rendering front faces and only accepting when depth is less than and stencil is not zero. By only rendering front faces where depth is less than, all future lookups by fragments in the forward rendering pass will get all possible lights that could hit the fragment. Can anyone explain how exactly you need to render only front faces? Another question is why do you need the front faces at all? Why can't we simply render all the lights and store the ones that overlap at this pixel in a texture? Does this approach serves as a cut-off plane to discard lights blocked by opaque geometry?

• How can I get multitouch enabled on my Sentelic touchpad (msi x350 notebook)?

  I understand my MSI x350 notebook comes with a Sentelic trackpad, which supports multi-touch (according to the MSI website). Is there a way to enable multitouch on Ubuntu? I've been having difficulty finding info about this on google, and since it's not a synaptics touchpad I haven't been able to find much info in ubuntu docs. My mouse preferences doesn't have a trackpad tab like it does on, say, a Macbook. • UEFI Boot Failure - Hang after Printing USB Information

  I'm experiencing a really weird boot problem. With both 12.10 and 12.04LTS, the vast majority of kernels (and initrds) that I've tried boot, but hang immediately after printing out information about USB devices. This isn't exactly a full "hang" so to speak, as if I plug in a flash drive, I see information and a /dev/sd* entry printed to the screen. Post/pre-init scripts are not run, there is no handoff, nor busybox or VT prompt. Virtual terminals can't be changed (with Ctrl-Alt-Fx). For what I can see, init may have not been executed yet. With certain kernel and OS combinations however, (specifically 3.2.0-29), I get a full boot and am able to use the OS as if there is no problem. After 3.2.0-29, I've been hard pressed to find a kernel that works. Any idea what's happening or how to fix this? Or even a road to take? I've exhausted the first five pages of Google for every search term I can think of. This is a Lenovo Z580 (i5-3210M) with Phoenix SecureCore Tiano firmware, if that helps any.

  I downloaded a CHM file. When I double click it it prompts me to open / save / cancel. Whether I open or save a new copy, the 'new' version will prompt the same open / save / cancel popup ad infinitum. Searching google it seems that Microsoft have deemed it right for security reason to block these files by default. The solution is to right click the file, and click the 'unblock' button at the bottom: The problem is that I don't have that button on my system: BTW, the button is also missing for .exe files.I'm using Win7 64bit. Any ideas?

  Good afternoon, Windows Server 2012 R2 as host fully up to date Windows Server 2012 R2 as guest fully up to date Whether I am running it as a host or guest, whenever I am installing an application that should take a couple minutes it always ends up 3x-5x longer than it should. If I take the same applications and install it on any other OS (IE 2k8, 7,) it they install very quickly. Dell server management software took 30 minutes or so when it takes 5 minutes or so on 2k8. Even a clean install not joined to domain I still experience this same slowness on applications I attempt to install. So my question to everyone is, are you or anyone else experiencing this? I cannot find anything on google so this is why I am here

• Ethernet switch not working

  I've just tried using two different ethernet switches on my network to replace an 8-port Netgear gigabit ethernet switch, which works fine, but doesn't have enough ports for what I need. Computers are connected to a TP-Link TD-8840T router via a switch. They use DHCP for IP address assignment. One switch is a TigerSwitch 6924M, which I'd expect to be difficult to set up, since it is second hand and has an advanced configuration menu, which I can't access without a serial port. However, the second switch that I tried is a new TP-Link TL-SF024, which doesn't appear to have any configuration options, so that can't be the problem. When I say "not working," I mean that although they display that they are connected to a network, they cannot access the internet. For example commands like "ping -c10 google.co.uk" come up with 100% packet loss. What could be causing the problem and how do I fix it?

• How can I sync Nokia smartphones' calendars with Snow Leopard Server's iCal Server?

  I've just installed and configured a Mac Mini Server for a customer who wanted to stop using Google Apps for their email. The plan was to also use the new server's calendaring service but we've hit a small snag: the staff all use iCal on Macs and Nokia E71s and there doesn't seem to be a way to use a single calendar for each person that syncs with both. iSync/iCal doesn't appear to allow their manually-synced phones to sync with the CalDAV calendars on the server, only with local calendars on their Macs. Nor does Nokia's organiser software support CalDAV but rather SyncML for live networked syncing. I was wondering if there's a plugin for iCal Server that would provide a bridge to a SyncML service I could run on the server... or anything else that would work (preferably FOSS)!

• What are the best strategies for selling Android apps?

  I'm a young developer hoping to sell my apps I made for Android soon. My applications are basically 99% finished so I'm investigating what would be the best marketing strategy to use to sell my apps. I'm sure the brilliant minds here can give me some great advice. I'm particularly interested in your thoughts on the following points (especially from experienced Android developers): Is it more profitable to sell an app for free with ads or to sell an app without ads for a price? Perhaps a combination of a free ad version and a paid ad-free version? If you give away an app for free with ads on it is it ethical to decline bending over backwards to support it? How much does piracy actually affect potential sales? Should any effort be put towards preventing it? Can you still make a profit off your application if you make it open source? Could you perhaps make more of a profit from the attention you would get by doing so? Is Google's Android Marketplace really the best place to release Android apps? It is worthwhile enough to maintain a developer blog or website to keep users updated on your development progress and software releases? Any other suggestions you could give me to maximize profit meanwhile keeping users happy and coming back for more would also be greatly appreciated. While I appreciate general tips and tricks, I'd like to ask that if possible you please go the extra step and show how they specifically apply to selling Android apps. Marketing statistics, developer retrospect, and any additional experience you can share from your time selling Android apps is what I would love to see most. • Allow JMX connection on JVM 1.6.x

  While trying to monitor a JVM on a remote system using visualvm the activation of JMX gave me some challenges. Dr Google and my employers documentation quickly revealed some -D opts needed for JMX, but strangely it only worked for a Solaris 10 system (my setup: MacOS laptop monitoring SPARC Solaris based JVMs) On S11 with the same opts I saw that "my" JVM listening on port 3000 (which I chose for JMX), but visualvm was not able to get a connection. Finally I found out that at least my S11 installation needed an explicit setting of the RMI host name. This what finally worked:         -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote=true \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false \        -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=3000 \        -Djava.rmi.server.hostname=s11name.us.oracle.com \ Maybe this post saves someone else the time I spent on research
