    Hi, I'm configuring my development environment with a basic Apache HTTPd configuration. But, to avoid a often problem, I want to map my test URL to my development folder. I'm using Ubuntu. It's not a direct permission to directory, but some intermediate directory in the path. There's a directive on httpd core Options: SymLinksIfOwnerMatch The server will only follow symbolic links for which the target file or directory is owned by the same user id as the link.   • Methodologies for performance-testing a WAN link

    We have a pair of new diversely-routed 1Gbps Ethernet links between locations about 200 miles apart. The 'client' is a new reasonably-powerful machine (HP DL380 G6, dual E56xx Xeons, 48GB DDR3, R1 pair of 300GB 10krpm SAS disks, W2K8R2-x64) and the 'server' is a decent enough machine too (HP BL460c G6, dual E55xx Xeons, 72GB, R1 pair of 146GB 10krpm SAS disks, dual-port Emulex 4Gbps FC HBA linked to dual Cisco MDS9509s then onto dedicated HP EVA 8400 with 128 x 450GB 15krpm FC disks, RHEL 5.3-x64). Using SFTP from the client we're only seeing about 40Kbps of throughput using large (2GB) files. We've performed server to 'other local server' tests and see around 500Mbps through the local switches (Cat 6509s), we're going to do the same on the client side but that's a day or so away. What other testing methods would you use to prove to the link providers that the problem is theirs?

    I downloaded and installed XAMPP, and to keep my projects nicely separated I want to create a VirtualHost for each one based on its future domain name.   • Is there a standard method for assigning nameservers to servers in a Windows domain?

    As the title asks, I'm wondering if there's any standard or "best practice" for how to actually assign nameservers (DNS) and manage the nameserver configuration for client servers on a Windows domain. I'm talking about the setting circled in the below image, in case the language of the question is not clear enough: This is for a large, multi-site environment, where ideally/hopefully all servers point at their site's Domain Controller as the primary DNS server, and a DNS server at a different site as the secondary DNS server. For simplicity's sake, we can say that the secondary server would be the Domain Controller at the home site for everyone, and there are no tertiary DNS servers (even though that's not actually the case). Try as I might, I can't seem to find a GPO setting for this (at least on FL 2003 R2, the Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Network - DNS Client - DNS Servers GPO is Supported on: Windows XP Professional only), and I find it rather hard to believe that the "best"/"standard" solution would therefore be either scripting up something to apply the DNS settings per site, or using a DHCP server to push those configurations out to the other servers via the DHCP Scope Options. So, is there a standard way of managing this configuration? (That's hopefully not "a script" or "DHCP Scope Option.)

  • Implications of Multiple JobTracker nodes in a Hadoop cluster?

    I get the impression that one can, potentially, have multiple JobTracker nodes configured to share the same set of MR (TaskTracker) nodes. I know that, conventionally, all the nodes in a Hadoop cluster should have the same set of configuration files (conventionally under /etc/hadoop/conf/ --- at least for the Cloudera Distribution of Hadoop (CDH). Can we define multiple Job Trackers in mapred-site.xml? Something like: <configuration> <property> <name>mapred.job.tracker</name> <value>jt01.mydomain.not:8021</value> </property> <property> <name>mapred.job.tracker</name> <value>jt02.mydomain.not:8021</value> </property> ... </configuration> Or is there some other allowed syntax for this? What are the implications of doing this. Does each JobTracker get information about the load on each TaskTracker node. In other words can the two JobTracker co-ordinated their scheduling across the TT nodes only based on the gossip information from the TTs or would they need to talk to one another? Is this documented anywhere?

  • gtk2/mate apps are choppy on debian testing [migrated]

    I have recently upgraded to a core-i7 system and now all the apps from mate (GTK2 based) are very slow. Basically when I switch to a workspace that has a couple mate-terminals open, they are redrawn as if these were sent over the network. GTK3 apps and firefox work properly and are refreshed instantly. I'm running Debian testing. I have tried to reinstall xorg and related packages and everything seems to work fine except for this. Here is my xorg.log. Any hints?

  • Install package from debian stable unavailable in testing/unstable repositories

    I'm currently running Debian testing and would like to install a package only available in the stable repositories. (I'm surprised I haven't come across this issue before) I could download the .deb directly and use dpkg to manually install it, but installing packages from one release into another is usually frowned upon. What's the best course of action? EDIT: Zoredache is right, I didn't realize this package has been removed from future versions of Debian as it no longer has a maintainer. It is of course, also pointed out by Zoredache, important to find out why a particular package has been removed before attempting to install it. I've altered the title slightly to reflect the actual issue.

But at a certain point of the installation, an error occurs: Impossible to install kernel. a compatible kernel version is missing... … or something like that. I see that the image ISO of the DVD is less than 4GB, but is impossible that there is no compatible kernel version for the system. I have an Asus X53Sc with Intel core I7-2630QM, Geforce GT 520MX.

  • IIS 7: launch unique site instance per host name

    Is it possible to configure IIS 7 so that a single site with multiple bindings (or wildcard bindings) will launch a unique instance for each unique host name? To explain why this is desirable, we have an application that retrieves its configuration from a remote system. The behaviour of the application is governed by this configuration and not by the 'web.config'. The application uses its host name as a key to retrieve the configuration. Currently it is a manual process to create an identical IIS site for each instance of the application, differing only by the bindings. My thought, if it were possible, is that it would be nice to have one IIS site that effectively works as a template for an arbitrary number of dynamic sites. Whenever it is accessed by a unique host name a new instance of the site would be launched, and all further requests to that host name would go to that instance just as though I had created the site by hand. I use IIS regularly, but only for fairly straightforward site hosting. I'd like to know if this could be configured with vanilla IIS 7, but would also welcome answers that require a plugin or 3rd party product. Programming/architectural suggestions about changes to the app wouldn't really be appropriate for serverfault.

    I need to do some testing on a service that I run to make sure that it can handle ipv6 addresses. Basically, I need to connect to it from an ipv6 address. I've created a tunnel via tunnelbroker.net, but I'm finding the steps required to get a tunnel configured on my machine and router to be a lot of trouble. Given that I'm not a networking specialist and that I haven't had to dig into routing configuration in years, I'd like to know if there's an existing service that I can just ssh into and use it as my ipv6 endpoint. Simply being able to curl or wget from such an endpoint to my service would be more than enough to test what I need. Thanks!

  • wso2 ESB: server configuration CRITICAL

    My Scenario: I have server_1 (192.168.10.1) with wso2-ESB and server_2 (192.168.10.2) with Glassfish-v3 + web services. Problem: I am trying to create a proxy in ESB using the java Web Services, but the created proxy does not respond properly. The log says: Unable to sendViaPost for http or https does not change the result. I think I should configure the axis2.xml but I am having trouble, and don't know what to do. What is the configuration for my scenario? Please help me! EDIT: To be clear, I can directly consume the WebService in the Glassfish server, it works normal, both port and url are accessible. Only when I create a "Pass through Proxy" in the ESB, it does not work. I don't think is matter of Proxy configuration...I never had problems while deployed locally, problems started once I have uploaded the ESB to a remote server. I really would need someone to point me what is the correct procedure when installing the ESB on a remote host: configuration of axis2.xml and carbon.xml, ports, transport receivers etc... P.S. I had a look at the official (wso2 esb and carbon) guides with no luck, but I am missing something...     All, I am a developer but like to know more about testing process and methods. I believe this helps me write more solid code as it improves the cases I can test using my unit tests before delivering product to the test team. I have recently started looking at Test Driven Development and Exploratory testing approach to software projects. Now it's easier for me to find test cases for the code that I have written. But I am curios to know how to discover test cases when I am not the developer for the functionality under test. Say for e.g. let's have a basic user registration form that we see on various websites. Assuming the person testing it is not the developer of the form, how should one go about testing the input fields on the form, what would be your strategy? How would you discover test cases?     Hello. I have a Dell OptiPlex 360 workstation at work, with 2 x ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] graphics cards installed, which are attached to two identical 19" HII flat panel monitors. I'm using the open source Radeon driver with Ubuntu, and the proprietary drivers with Windows. The good news is that dual head configuration works for both OSes. The bad news is, I have to use a different hardware configuration for each OS to achieve this. Hardware config #1: Dual monitors work for Windows XP Pro like this: First display -> external VGA port Second display -> DVI input on gfx card Hardware config #2: Dual monitors work for Ubuntu 10.04.1 like this: First display -> VGA port on gfx card Second display -> DVI input on gfx card I connected up the displays according to Config #2 and booted up Windows, which resulted in a mirror image on both screens. I was unable to login, as the login box was not visible. I unplugged the VGA lead from gfx card and plugged it into the external VGA port (Config #1) - Windows dual head works again, but the VGA-connected screen is not recognised by Ubuntu and remains in standby mode. Is it possible to configure a dual head setup for Ubuntu using Config #1, or am I missing something? I tried setting up dual monitors using Config #1, this morning which didn't work.   • Log4r : logger inheritance, yaml configuration, alternatives ?

    Hello, I'm pretty new to ruby environments and I was looking for a nice logging framework to use it my ruby and rails applications. In my previous experiences I have successfully used log4j and log4p (the perl port) and was expecting the same level of usability (and maturity) with log4r. However I must say that there are a number of things that are not clear at all in the log4r framework. 1 Logger Inheritance The logger inheritance does not seem to be managed at all ! If I declare a logger named 'myapp' and then try to get a logger name 'myapp::engine', the lookup will end with a NameError. I would expect that the framework returns the root logger according to the naming scheme and to use the 'myapp' logger. Q1 : Of course I can work around this and manage the names by myself with a lookup method, however is there a cleaner way to do this without any extra coding ? 2 YAML configuration Second thing that confuses me is the yaml configuration. On the log4r site there are literally no information about this system, the doc links forward to missing pages, so all the info I can find about is contained in the examples directory of the gem. I was pretty confused with the fact that the yaml configuration must contain the pre_config section, and that I need to define my own levels. If I remove the pre_config secion, or replace all the “custom” levels by the standard ones ( debug, info, warn, fatal ) , the example will throw the following error : log4r/yamlconfigurator.rb:68:in `decode_yaml': Log level must be in 0..7 (ArgumentError) So there seems to be no way of using a simple file where we only declare the loggers and appenders for the framework. Q2 : I realy think that I missed something and that must be a way of providing a simple yaml conf file. Do you have any examples of such an usage ? 3 Variables substitution in XML file Q3 : The Yaml configuration system seems to provide such a feature however I was unable to find a similar feature with XML files. Any ideas ? 4 Alternatives ? I must say that I'm very disappointed by the feature level and the maturity of log4r compared to the log4j and other log4j ports. I run into this framework with a solid background of logging APIs in other languages and find myself working around in all kinds just to make 'basic things' running in a “real world application”. By that I mean a complex application composed of several gems, console/scripting apps, and a rails web front end where the configuration must be mutualized and where we make intensive usage of namespaces and inheritance. I've run several searches in order to find something more suitable or mature, but did not find anything similar.   • ScriptAlias makes requests match too many Location blocks. What is going on?

    We wish to restrict access on our development server to those users who have a valid SSL Client certificate. We are running Apache 2.2.16 on Debian 6. However, for some sections (mainly git-http, setup with gitolite on https://my.server/git/) we need an exception since many git clients don't support SSL client certificates. I have succeeded in requiring client cert authentication for the server, and in adding exceptions for some locations. However, it seems this does not work for git. The current setup is as follows: SSLCACertificateFile ssl-certs/client-ca-certs.crt <Location /> SSLVerifyClient require SSLVerifyDepth 2 </Location> # this works <Location /foo> SSLVerifyClient none </Location> # this does not <Location /git> SSLVerifyClient none </Location> I have also tried an alternative solution, with the same results: # require authentication everywhere except /git and /foo <LocationMatch "^/(?!git|foo)"> SSLVerifyClient require SSLVerifyDepth 2 </LocationMatch> In both these cases, a user without client certificate can perfectly access my.server/foo/, but not my.server/git/ (access is refused because no valid client certificate is given). If I disable SSL client certificate authentication completely, my.server/git/ works ok. The ScriptAlias problem Gitolite is setup using the ScriptAlias directive. However, the following URL does not: https://my.server/test/somethingElse/foo Note that this only seems to apply for SSL configuration. The following has no effect whatsoever on https://my.server/test/foo: <LocationMatch "^/f"> Order allow,deny Deny from all </LocationMatch> However, it does block access to https://my.server/foo. This presents a major problem for cases where I have some project running at https://my.server/project (which has to require SSL client certificate authorization), and there is a git repository for that project at https://my.server/git/project which cannot require a SSL client certificate. Since the /git/project URL also gets matched agains /project Location blocks, such a configuration seems impossible given my current findings. Question: Why is this happening, and how do I solve my problem? In the end, I want to require SSL Client certificate authorization for the whole server except for /git and /someLocation, with as minimal configuration as possible (so I don't have to modify the configuration each time something new is deployed or a new git repository is added). Note: I rewrote my question (instead of just adding more updates at the bottom) to take into account my new findings and hopefully make this more clear.

  • Testing radius server from Mac OS X client

    I have a radius server set up on a server running Ubuntu 11.04. I have configured my switch to use the authentication server's IP (192.168.1.2) for RADIUS / 802.1x authentication, and I created a connection to test connecting from my Mac OSX client. Here is my radius configuration for the client: client 192.168.1.0/16 { secret = testing123 } I can successfully authenticate using both 127.0.0.1 (localhost) and 192.168.1.2 (ip of eth1), so I know radius is getting those requests. I set up a connection to test from my macbook, and my requests are timing out. http://screencast.com/t/tMhRLS3H7 Is there a better way to test the radius connection from my macbook? Thanks!   • SQLite NHibernate configuration with .Net 4.0 and vs 2010

    I am having way too much trouble getting my environment straight after switching to 2010 and .net 4.0, so I'd like to break the whole process down once and for all. 1) Which SQLite dll?? I think it is SQLite-1.0.65.1-vs2010rc-net4-setup.zip. Yes? 2) I ran the installer so the dll is in the GAC but I usually find there are less problems if I can just reference the dll stand alone. Is there any reason it needs to be in the GAC, and if not, what's the best way to uninstall it from the GAC (I can get to the GAC folder but it says I need permission to delete the files; should I leave the SQLite Designer dll's there?)? 3) x64. There is an x64 dll in the download. I had problems with SQLite in the past though that I could only resolve by compiling to x86. Can I safely reference the x64 dll and compile to Any CPU now? 4) what is the right NHib config? I have been using the one below, but since the error I get says "Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver." that configuration is guilty until proven innocent too? 5) could FNH be a problem too? I don't use the pre-configured fluent SQLite method but FNH has to provide a reference to it for that to work, no?
