  • How detect length of a numpy array with only one element?

    - by mishaF
    I am reading in a file using numpy.genfromtxt which brings in columns of both strings and numeric values. One thing I need to do is detect the length of the input. This is all fine provided there are more than one value read into each array. But...if there is only one element in the resulting array, the logic fails. I can recreate an example here: import numpy as np a = np.array(2.3) len(a) returns an error saying: TypeError: len() of unsized object however, If a has 2 or more elements, len() behaves as one would expect. import numpy as np a = np.array([2.3,3.6]) len(a) returns 2 My concern here is, if I use some strange exception handling, I can't distinguish between a being empty and a having length = 1.

  • Button to add value to array and then compare result with another array on IPhone.

    - by slickplaid
    I have ten buttons that each correspond to a different number. I'm looking to record the order that these buttons are pressed and enter them into an array and then compare it to another array that is static in the app. The check should be done on the Nth button press, where N equals the number of items in the other, static array. How do I A) have a button press add a value to an array B) stop after Nth button press equal to amount of numbers in the array I'm checking against and C) compare this array to the other array?

  • How to create array items by specify a key that includes hierachy ?

    - by Relax
    Given original codes as: foreach($option as $name=>$value) $array[$name] = $value; and $name as button[0][text], button[0][value], button[1][text], spider[0][name], ... The result array would be array('button[0][text]' => 'its text', 'button[0][value]' => 'its value', 'button[1][text]' => 'its text', 'spider[0][name]' => 'its name', ) However, what i want is array('button' => array( array('text'=>'its text', 'value'=>'its value'), // this is $array[button][0] array('text'=>'its text') // this is $array[button][1] ), 'spider' => array( array('name'=>'its name') // this is $array[spider][0] ) ) How could i do this? ...

  • find a specific string pattern in an array jquery

    - by Bwyss
    Apologies if this is a duplicate, but I can't seem to find the solution. I am trying to find a specific string pattern in an array. I want to find all values in data that contain 'underscore r underscore'. I then want to create a new array that contains only those keys and values. var data = ["something", "bar_r_something"]; var resultArray = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { var bar = /_r_/; if ($.inArray(bar, data[i].length) > 0) { console.log("found _r_"); resultArray.push(data[i]); } }; I just can't seem to get that $.inArray to work, it seems to always kick out -1.

  • C++ Filling an 1D array to represent a n-dimensional object based on a straight line segment

    - by Ben
    I'm struggling to find a good way to put this question but here goes. I'm making a system that uses a 1D array implemented as double * parts_ = new double[some_variable];. I want to use this to hold co-ordinates for a particle system that can run in various dimensions. What I want to be able to do is write a generic fill algorithm for filling this in n-dimensions with a common increment in all direction to a variable size. Examples will serve best I think. Consider the case where the number of particles stored by the array is 4 In 1D this produces 4 elements in the array because each particle only has one co-ordinate. 1D: {0, 25, 50, 75}; In 2D this produces 8 elements in the array because each particle has two co-ordinates.. 2D: {0, 0, 0, 25, 25, 0, 25, 25} In 3D this produces 12 elements in the array because each particle now has three co-ordinates {0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 25, 0, 0, 50, ... } These examples are still not quite accurate, but they hopefully will suffice. The way I would do this normally for two dimensions: int i = 0; for(int x = 0; x < parts_size_ / dims_ / dims_ * 25; x += 25) { for(int y = 0; y < parts_size_ / dims_ / dims_ * 25; y += 25) { parts_[i] = x; parts_[i+1] = y; i+=2; // Indentation hates me today .< How can I implement this for n-dimensions where 25 can be any number? The straight line part is because it seems to me logical that a line is a somewhat regular shape in 1D, as is a square in 2D, and a cube in 3D. It seems to me that it would follow that there would be similar shapes in this family that could be implemented for 4D and higher dimensions via a similar fill pattern. This is the shape I wish to set my array to represent.

  • Why Use java.lang.reflect.Array For Anything Other Than Array Creation?

    - by dimo414
    Java Class java.lang.reflect.Array provides a set of tools for creating an array dynamically. However in addition to that it has a whole set of methods for accessing (get, set, and length) an array. I don't understand the point of this, since you can (and presumably would) cast your dynamically generated array as an array upon creation, which means you can use the normal array access (bracket notation) functionality. In fact, looking at the source code you can see that is all the class does, cast the array, and throw an exception if the cast fails. So what's the point / usefulness of all of these extra methods?

  • What is the most efficient way to handle points / small vectors in JavaScript?

    - by Chris
    Currently I'm creating an web based (= JavaScript) application thata is using a lot of "points" (= small, fixed size vectors). There are basically two obvious ways of representing them: var pointA = [ xValue, yValue ]; and var pointB = { x: xValue, y: yValue }; So translating my point a bit would look like: var pointAtrans = [ pointA[0] + 3, pointA[1] + 4 ]; var pointBtrans = { x: pointB.x + 3, pointB.y + 4 }; Both are easy to handle from a programmer point of view (the object variant is a bit more readable, especially as I'm mostly dealing with 2D data, seldom with 3D and hardly with 4D - but never more. It'll allways fit into x,y,z and w) But my question is now: What is the most efficient way from the language perspective - theoretically and in real implementations? What are the memory requirements? What are the setup costs of an array vs. an object? ... My target browsers are FireFox and the Webkit based ones (Chromium, Safari), but it wouldn't hurt to have a great (= fast) experience under IE and Opera as well...

  • how to call array values based on the main id they linked to?

    - by veronica george
    In page one, $add_id2=implode(',',$add_id); //result is 1,4 $item_type2=implode(',',$item_type_2); //result is 8,16 $final_total2=implode(',',$final); //result is 150,430 I pass these values via URL to the page two and store them in session. $_SESSION['cart'][$car]= array ('car'=>$car, 'loc_1'=>$location, array ( 'addon_id'=>$a_id, 'item_type'=>$item_type2, 'final_total'=>$final_t ) ); I call them like this, foreach($_SESSION['cart'] as $cart=>$things) { //display main array value like car id and location id echo $cart; foreach($things as $thing_1=>$thing_2) { foreach($thing_2['addon_id'] as $thi_2=>$thi_4) { //to display addons item for the car id //this is the id for each addon under the above car //echo $thi_2; //this is to echo addon id $thi_4; } } } The above loop works . the addon items array loops through inside main array which is car. If there were two addon items chosen then the addon array will loop twice. Now al I need to do is, How to make $item_type2 and $final_total2 display the value according to the addon id? PS: Same addon items can be chosen multiple times. They are identified uniquely by id(//echo $thi_2;). Thanks.

  • Retrieve POST data without knowing exact number of fields

    - by James
    Hi all! I'm creating an online poll from scratch which will be held in a database. I'm working on getting a system set up so someone can create a new poll. I will be having the user fill out a simple HTML form with the Questions and Answers (there may be several answers). The user will be able to add multiple questions and multiple answers for each question. As the total number of questions and answers will be decided by the user, I need to create some clever PHP to cater for this - however many there are. When dealing with a static number of questions, it's simple. But I'm having trouble thinking of a way to get all the POST data into individual PHP variables so I can process them. I was thinking of using a foreach loop, anyone got any ideas? Sorry for the long winded description! If anyone needs anything clarified, I'd be happy to do so. My problem is that I can't get my head around how to deal with the POST values when I don't know exactly which element of the array will contain what. If things were static with a set number of questions and answers, I'd know $_POST[0] was Question1, etc Thank you! =)

Getting following errur: array_key_exists() expects exactly 2 parameters, 1 given on line if (!array_key_exists($tree[$parent]['children'][$id])) Function looks like that $tree = array(); $sql = "SELECT id, parent, name FROM menu WHERE parent ... etc.... "; $results = mysql_query($sql) or die(mysql_error()); while(list($id, $parent, $name) = mysql_fetch_assoc($results)) { $tree[$id] = array('name' => $name, 'children' => array(), 'parent' => $parent); if (!array_key_exists($tree[$parent]['children'][$id])) { $tree[$parent]['children'][$id] = $id; } } Db structure How can I fix that?   • php Checking if value exists in array of array

    - by Mark
    I have an array within an array. $a = array ( 0 => array ( 'value' => 'America', ), 1 => array ( 'value' => 'England', ), ) How do I check if 'America' exists in the array? The America array could be any key, and there could be any number of subarrays, so a generalized solution please. Looking on the php manual I see in_array, but that only works for the top layer. so something like in_array("America", $a) would not work. Thanks.

  • Add values to an array after isset()

    - by user1656692
    I'm trying to add elements to an array after subsequent trials, but so far only one value is being added to the array. I've Googled and searched stackoverflow, and I seem to be getting only half the picture unless if I'm implementing it wrong. There are about 40 files, which will be needed to be submited one after another, and then a value from each trial is stored in the database. So far, this is what I've done. $_SESSION['task2'] = array(); //Submit Task 1 if (isset($_POST['submit_task_01'])) { $trial1_ac_sec = cleanInput($_POST['clockInputTask_01ac']); $trial1_est_sec = cleanInput($_POST['clockInputTask_01']); $trial1_ac = round(($trial1_ac_sec * 42.67), 2); $trial1_est = round(($trial1_est_sec * 42.67), 2); $trial1_judgErr = $trial1_ac - $trial1_est; $trial_1error = round($trial1_judgErr, 2); array_push($_SESSION['task2'],$trial_1error); header("location: Trial_2.php"); } //Submit Task2 if (isset($_POST['submit_task_02'])) { $trial2_ac_sec = cleanInput($_POST['clockInputTask_02ac']); $trial2_est_sec = cleanInput($_POST['clockInputTask_02']); $trial2_ac = round(($trial2_ac_sec * 42.67), 2); $trial2_est = round(($trial2_est_sec * 42.67), 2); $trial2_judgErr = $trial2_ac - $trial2_est; $trial_2error = round($trial2_judgErr, 2); array_push($_SESSION['task2'],$trial_2error); header("location: newEmptyPHPWebPage.php"); } ... and so on.. up until 40 I'm just wondering what am I doing wrong, I know that each time isset() will reload the page, and the previous data won't be available, so in that sense I thought I'd create an array for sessions and then push data in the session, however that doesn't seem to work. If anyone has any ideas on what I can do, I'll greatly appreciate it. Thank You.

  • Issue pushing object into an array JS

    - by Javacadabra
    I'm having an issue placing an object into my array in javascript. This is the code: $('.confirmBtn').click(function(){ //Get reference to the Value in the Text area var comment = $("#comments").val(); //Create Object var orderComment = { 'comment' : comment }; //Add Object to the Array productArray.push(orderComment); //update cookie $.cookie('order_cookie', JSON.stringify(productArray), { expires: 1, path: '/' }); }); However when I print the array this is the output: Array ( [0] => Array ( [stockCode] => CBL202659/A [quantity] => 8 ) [1] => Array ( [stockCode] => CBL201764 [quantity] => 6 ) [2] => TEST TEST ) I would like it to look like this: Array ( [0] => Array ( [stockCode] => CBL202659/A [quantity] => 8 ) [1] => Array ( [stockCode] => CBL201764 [quantity] => 6 ) [2] Array( [comment] => TEST TEST ) I added products to the array in a similar way and it worked fine: var productArray = []; // Will hold order Items $(".orderBtn").click(function(event){ //Check to ensure quantity > 0 if(quantity == 0){ console.log("Quantity must be greater than 0") }else{//It is so continue //Show the order Box $(".order-alert").show(); event.preventDefault(); //Get reference to the product clicked var stockCode = $(this).closest('li').find('.stock_code').html(); //Get reference to the quantity selected var quantity = $(this).closest('li').find('.order_amount').val(); //Order Item (contains stockCode and Quantity) - Can add whatever data I like here var orderItem = { 'stockCode' : stockCode, 'quantity' : quantity }; //Check if cookie exists if($.cookie('order_cookie') === undefined){ console.log("Creating new cookie"); //Add object to the Array productArray.push(orderItem);

Is there any way of writing a method like createArray(typeof(int), firstDimension, secondDimension); and getting new int[firstDimension][secondDimension]? Once again, type of elements is known only at runtime.

So I want the most popular letter to be first. How would I do this?

I was thinking maybe the problem is my code to generate the random characters: public void add (char fromChar, char toChar){ Random r = new Random(); //creates a random object int randInt; for (int i=0; i<charArray.length; i++){ randInt = r.nextInt((toChar-fromChar) +1); charArray[i] = (char) randInt; //casts these integers as characters } }//end add public int[] countLetters() { int[] count = new int[26]; char current; for (int b = 0; b <= 26; b++) { for (int i = 97; i <= 123; i++) { char a = (char) i; for (int ch = 0; ch < charArray.length; ch++) { current = charArray[ch]; if (current == a) { count[b]++; } } } } return count; }
