• Excel 2003 VSTO convert to PDF

  I have an excel workbook vsto solution that needs to generate a pdf copy of one of its sheets as output. I have a license for abcdpdf .net and tried outputting to html, then using abcpdf to convert the html to pdf, but the excel html markup tries to emulate excel with all 4 worksheets with horrible markup. It also messes up the colors (silver background across entire workbook). Any suggestions? Here is the code I'm currently using to generate the html file: FileInfo excelDoc = new FileInfo(Globals.ThisWorkbook.Path + @"\Document.html"); Globals.Sheet2.SaveAs(excelDoc.FullName, Excel.XlFileFormat.xlHtml, missing, missing, false, false, Excel.XlSaveAsAccessMode.xlNoChange, missing, missing, missing); If I hack away some of the html header tags manually, I can get abcdpf to accept it, but the formatting is a bit off and this solution seems sub optimal. • SilverLight WebApp Calling Webservice in the same solution

  Hi, I have a website solution that is composed of a SilverLight Project and an ASP Site that contains an asmx Webservice. The SilverLight project calls various methods in the Webservice, and this works fine on my home PC. When i publish the site (using 123-Reg if that makes a difference), it appears that the SilverLight app is no longer able to call the webservice. I have tried debugging the app by pointing my local version of the site to my published webservice and i get a "policy" issue. I know that 123 Reg have .Net 3.5 running on their servers, so i would assume that the site should "just work" when i publish it. Am i making a hugely stupid assumption there? Is there anything that i can do to change the "policies" within my app? Or is there another way around what i am trying to do ( i need to keep the webservice, as i want for it to be used from other places, and dont really want to duplicate code and create the same methods within the SilverLight project). • Does NInject work in medium trust hosting?

  I'm doing shared hosting with GoDaddy and I developed a sample ASP.NET MVC app using Castle Windsor and unfortunately, it didn't work in a medium trust setting. Specifically, I got this error: "[SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers"... etc. GoDaddy is sadly not flexible in their trust policy. I'm not tied to Windsor and would like to try another one that will work under Medium Trust. I'd actually like to use NInject, but I've read people having mixed success. The only one I've read that works with no problem is Microsoft's Unity. My question is, does NInject work in medium trust? If not, what are my options?

  Hi, I am trying to learn Domain Driven Design and recently read that lots of people advocate creating a ViewModels for your views that store all the values you want to display in a given view. My question is how should I do the form validation? should I create separate validation classes for each view, or group them together? I'm also confused on what this would look like in code. This is how I currently think validation and viewmodels fit in to the scheme of things: View (some user input) - Controller - FormValidation(of ViewModel) - (If valid map to ViewModel to Domain Model) - Domain Layer Service - Infrastructure Thanks! • Run JavaScript after a DropDownList is DataBound

  I need to trigger a JavaScript function to be called AFTER a DropDownList on my ASP.NET WebForms page is DataBound, because the SelectedIndex of this DropDownList is the parameter to the JavaScript function. I've tried this various ways, but it seems that if I do it with pure JavaScript onload by using ClientScript.RegisterStartUpScript, the control can be found (because it hasn't been assigned a clientID yet?). If I use jQuery (document).ready { } it says that the DropDownList has no selectedIndex.value. So I need some JavaScript to run AFTER the control has a value set by the DataBind. How can I accomplish this? onChanged won't work because I need the function to fire on the first page load, with no user input. DataBinding the SelectedIndex of the DropDownList doesn't cause the JavaScript onChanged event to fire.

• How can I check the version of an assembly then delete the assembly?

  I am using the FileVersionInfo to retrieve the version of a .Net assembly. Then, I want to immediately delete the file. Unfortunately after I call GetVersionInfo, any attempt to delete the file results in an error “…in use by another process…” Is there another technique to determine the version that does not lock the file? Or, is it possible to ensure the lock is released after calling GetVersionInfo? • What is the equivalent to IScriptControl for Web.UI.Page?

  We've been using IScriptControl to tie javascript objects to our UserControls and ServerControls, and it's worked fine. The problem is that ASP.NET seems to provide no method to tie a javascript object to a Page. Up to now, we've been putting plain functions in the global namespace, but I am developing a serious allergy to that practice. It'd be easy enough to wrap our functions into a javascript class, and to include the javascript file on the page, but how to instantiate the object, how to reference it from callback events, and how to pass data to it from the code-behind, I haven't figured out. Or rather, the methods we've been using up to now (hidden fields, emitted javascript strings, etc.), really bug me. Anyone have better ideas?

  Hello everyone, I am using Silverlight 3.0 + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + C# to develop a simple video application using MediaElement of Silverlight. I have two videos and I want to play them at the same time (similar to picture in picture effect) -- i.e. a part of the two videos are overlapped when they are playing (the same concept of Z-Order in UI design). I want to play one MediaElement on top of the other MediaElement, and I am wondering how to assign the overlap order (similar to set Z-Order UI element, but I did not find MediaElement has Z-Order property)? thanks in advance, George

• How to programatically record the start and end of an MVC FileResult for logging of incomplete downl

  Hi, I have been investigating how My ASP.NET MVC application can log unsuccessful / incomplete downloads. I have a controller handling the file requests which currently returns a FileResult. What I need to record is the IPAddress, filename and when the download started, then the same data and when it completed. I have looked at intercepting the request start and end with an HttpModule and also IIS7 failed request tracing but am not sure which route would be best and have this feeling that maybe I am missing an obvious answer to the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions or know of any alternatives as this seems like something many people would want to know from their web server? Thanks for your help

Problem Now when i performed above client code in a loop of 1000 i found big difference between "All Heap bytes" and "Private Bytes" performance counters (i used .net memory profiler). I guess doing javascript is out of the question since this will have to be server side call.   I have a SqlCommand object on my c# based asp.net page. The SQL and the passed parameters are working the majority of the time. I have one case that is not working, I get the following error: String or binary data would be truncated. The statement has been terminated. I understand the error and but all the columns in the database should be long enough to hold everything being sent. My questions, Is there a way to see what the actual SQL being sent to the database is from SqlCommand object? I would like to be able to email the SQL when an error occurs. Thanks, Justin

• Weird problem: IE8 user can't authenticate with web service

  I have an asp.net app. It has a page that requires authentication. The authenticated user can view the page because he/she is authenticated. The page makes a jQuery Ajax call to a WCF service. The WCF service checks that the user is authenticated via HttpContext. I have a user that is using WinXP and IE8. This user can authenticate to the page, but when the Ajax call is made from the page to the wb service, the user recieves my "session not authenticated" message on the page, generated by the service and displayed on the page. When I use the same OS/browser combo, the page and service work just fine, as expected; no errors. What option in this user's IE settings would cause this behavior?

  What is the Best practice of dynamic changing password for this scenario? The scenario is: There are three web apps using ASP.NET. App1 checks the passwords of app2/app3 to authenticate the identity, and if app2/app3 is authenticated then app1 is allowed to receive information from App2 and App3. And app1 has to change the passwords of app2/app3 every two hour for security reason. Is it possible that there is a way to implement this scenario without app1 saving the passwords of app2/app3 for security reason? Or is there any best practice for dynamic changing password scenario?

  Hi, so I wanted to try my first CLR project in Visual C++. So I created console project, but since every tutorial I found about CLR programming was using C#, or windows forms, I just tried writing standart c++ Hello Word app using iostream (I think code isnt needed in this case) but I though it will give me some compile error, since iostream uses precompiled functions, and CLR app compiles into MSIL. I assumed that CLR programming using C++ means just using C++ syntax, but different functions for I/O and so. So, basicly, what I want to ask is, can any native console C++ app be compiled into MSIL and run by .NET framework?

• How to return all aspnet_compiler errors (not just those in first directory)

  Hi there! Is there a way to get the aspnet_compiler to go through all views and return all errors, rather than just the errors in the current view directory? For example, lets say I have a project that has a bunch of folders... Views Folder1 Folder2 Folder3 Folder4 Two of them (Folder2 and Folder3) have errors. aspnet_compiler will run, and only return the errors it comes across in Folder2. It won't return those in Folder3 at the same time. Once I fix the errors in Folder2 and run it again, it'll then pick up the ones in the Folder3. I fix those. And then have to run the tool again, and again until it's all fixed. This is getting annoying!! For reference, here's the command I use: C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_compiler -v / -p "C:\path\to\project" Thanks in advance!

• Reading from a oracle temp table in a separate procedure than the one it was populted in

  I have a 2 stored procedures, the first creates an oracle temp table and the second reads from it. The temp table only has scope for that session. I'm calling the procedures from .Net and the second procedure never returns any results. However if I use the same sprocs and parameters in SQL*Plus it works fine. I've tried creating an Oracle Transaction object and had hoped I'd be able to read the tables in while still using the same transaction - trying to emulate an SQL Plus type of single connection environment. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong??

  Does anyone know of an example of how to dynamically define and build ADO MD (ActiveX Data Objects Multidimensional) catalogs and cube definitions with a set of data other than a database? Background: we have a huge amount of data in our application that we export to a database and then query using the usual SQL joins, groups, sums etc to produce reports. The data in the application is originally in objects and arrays. The problem is the amount of data is so large the export can take 2 hours. So I am trying to figure out a good way of querying the objects in memory, either by a custom OLAP algorithm or library, or ADO MD. But I haven't been able to find an example of using ADO MD without a database behind it. We are using Delphi 2010 so would use ADO ActiveX but I imagine the ADO.NET MD is similar. I realize that if the application data was already stored in a database the problem would solve itself. Also if Delphi had LINQ capability I could query the objects and arrays that way.

  hi my dear friends ... i am using asp.net with c# web app in vs 2008 problem 1: i do not know why Telerik RadControls- RadFormDecorator Moves some controls (such as Buttons or chech boxes) and changes their positioning up or down in my form after viewing in browser... i put those controls in a cell of a table ... but not help i had this problem about radajaxmanager and by setting UpdatePanelsRenderMode property to inline problem solved - but here there is no property like that... what is going on here? problem2: i decorated my buttons and chechboxes with radformdecorator (telerik radcontrols) control... when i click on a checkbox to set it to true or false so my webpage positioning goes to up (like when postback occurs , but this is not postback) how can i prevent this problem ? thanks for attention

• Sessionstate not being saved between pages

  Hi, i am having problems with an asp.net c# site whereby i am setting a session state object to true and then redirecting to another page that needs to check the value of the session state object and it is null. Sometimes it is set correctly and other times is is simply null. When i debug on my local machine it works perfectly every time. Only when i upload to my web server does this temperamental behaviour happen. As it is based around the security of the site it is obviously important that the session data be valid and accurate every time. Is session state data unreliable? AFAIK its set to inproc, cookieless, 30 min timeout, vanilla installation of IIS. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps i need to thread.sleep inbetween the storing of the session data and the reading? NB: the time between the write and the read is about 70ms.. ample time for the data to be written to RAM.....

  Hi, I am using Watin mostly to automate thing I do by hand. Sometimes, I need to change proxy. To do this, I have to set up IE to use a local proxy all the time (listens locally and forwards to a remote porxy), and then by hand change the settings of that program each time I need to use another proxy. This is not an elegant solution! It may work, but it is not nice. So, my question is, how do I change programmatically IE settings while using Watin? I code in VB.NET. Thank you

• How to prevent a dll from being loaded in other apps

  Hello, currently I develop a C#.Net application in which I'm using a custom control I developed some time ago. I need the dll to be shipped within the new application - but understandably I do not want the dll file to be used for foreign apps. That's why I need the custom dll to be somehow compiled within the new application. Currently the dll is copied into the application directory. Any ideas? Should be trivial imho.
