• Allowed unicode characters in IDN host labels

  Hi all, Im currently working on a "proper" URI validator and currently it all comes down to hostname validation, the rest isnt that tricky. Im stuck at IDN hostname labels (e.g. containing unicode; possible punycode encoded strings have been decoded at this point). My first idea was basicly a regex for TLD's not supporting IDN and one for those who do (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/security/tld-idn-policy-list.html (?)). Respectively; ^[a-zA-Z0-9-]+$ and ^[a-zA-Z0-9-\p{L}]+$ However this is not an ideal situation, since every IDN registrar can decide which characters to allow and which not. What im looking for is a proper, consistent, up2date data table of unicode characters allowed in various TLD's; im getting this idea i have to find all the data myself at russian and chinese registry sites (which is quite difficult). So before spitting down the web.. i wondered is there such a list? Or are there better approaches, best/common practices etc? (I want the validation to be as strict as possible.) • MVC2 and jquery.validate.js

  I am experiencing some confusion with jquery.validate.js First of all, what is MicrosoftMvcJqueryValidation.js. It is referenced in snippets on the web but appears to have dissapeared from the RTM MVC2 and is now in futures. Do I need it? The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to use the validator with MVC and I can't get it to work.   I have two models a Company and a User the Company has_many :users and the User belongs_to :company. • JSF 2.0: Validate equality of 2 InputSecret Fields (confirm password) without writing Code?

  I'm developing a pure JavaEE6 application with JSF 2.0 and Glassfish. My JSF implementation is Primefaces (beside Mojarra provided by Glassfish). I want to verify if the values of 2 password fields in a JSF form are equal. With Seam, there is the neat component <s:validateEquality for="pw1"/>. I want do to the same without Seam, just using JSF (or maybe a component of a JSF library). Until now i only saw examples which validate the form with a custom validator. But i would like to compare the fields without writing Java code or Javascript code. Is that possible? • Localizing DataAnnotations Custom Validation Attribute

  Hello SO, I'm currently working in an MVC 2 app which has to have everything localized in n-languages (currently 2, none of them english btw). I validate my model classes with DataAnnotations but when I wanted to validate a DateTime field found out that the DataTypeAttribute returns always true, no matter it was a valid date or not (that's because when I enter a random string "foo", the IsValid() method checks against "01/01/0001 ", dont know why). Decided to write my own validator extending ValidationAtribute class: public class DateTimeAttribute : ValidationAttribute { public override bool IsValid(object value) { DateTime result; if (value.ToString().Equals("01/01/0001 0:00:00")) { return false; } return DateTime.TryParse(value.ToString(), out result); } } Now it checks OK when is valid and when it's not, but my problem starts when I try to localize it: [Required(ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(MSG), ErrorMessageResourceName = "INS_DATA_Required")] [CustomValidation.DateTime(ErrorMessageResourceType = typeof(MSG), ErrorMessageResourceName = "INS_DATA_DataType")] public DateTime INS_DATA { get; set; } If I put nothing in the field I get a localized MSG (MSG being my resource class) for the key=INS_DATA_Required but if I put a bad-formatted date I get the "The value 'foo' is not valid for INS_DATA" default message and not the localized MSG. What am I misssing?

  Hi, I'm having problems with the Timestampable functionality in Doctrine 1.2.2. The error I get on trying to save() my Record is: Uncaught exception 'Doctrine_Validator_Exception' with message 'Validation failed in class XXX 1 field had validation error: * 1 validator failed on created_at (unsigned) ' in ... I've created the relevant field in the MySQL table as: created_at DATETIME NOT NULL, Then in setTableDefinition() I have: $this->hasColumn('created_at', 'timestamp', null, array( 'type' => 'timestamp', 'fixed' => false, 'unsigned' => false, 'primary' => false, 'notnull' => true, 'autoincrement' => false, )); Which is taken straight from the output of generateModelsFromDb(). And finally my setUp() looks like: public function setUp() { parent::setUp(); $this->actAs('Timestampable', array( 'created' => array( 'name' => 'created_at', 'type' => 'timestamp', 'format' => 'Y-m-d H:i:s', 'disabled' => false, 'options' => array() ), 'updated' => array( 'disabled' => true ))); } (I've tried not defining all of those fields for 'created', but I get the same problem.) But when i want to validate it with a Custom validator of ASP.Net 2.0, im not getting the result expected. • Create combined client side and server side validation in Symfony2

  I think it would be very useful to create client side form validation up on the symfony2 Form and Validator components. The best way to do this would be to pass the validation constraints to the form view. With that information it would be possible to make a template that renders a form field to something like this: <div> <label for="form_email">E-Mail</label> <input id="form_email" type="text" name="form[email]" value="" data-validation-constraints='["NotBlank":{},"MinLength":{"limit":6}]' /> </div> The JavaScript part then would be to find all <input> elements that have the data-validation-constraints attribute and create the correct validation for them. To pass the validation constraints to the form view i thought the best way would be to create a form type extension. That's the point of my Question: Is this the correct way? And how is this possible?   I have a webservice with a method which is called via a xmlhttprequest object in my javascript. The method accepts a datetime parameter which is subsequently converted to a string and run against the database to perform a calculation. I get the value from m_txtDateAdd and send off the xmlHttprequest <asp:textbox id=m_txtDateAdd tabIndex=4 runat="server" Width="96px" Text="<%# Today %>"> </asp:textbox> which has a validator attacted to it <asp:CustomValidator id="m_DateAddValidator" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please Enter a Valid Date" ControlToValidate="m_txtDateAdd">&#x25CF;</asp:CustomValidator> My webmethod looks something like this [WebMethod] public decimal GetTotalCost(DateTime transactionDate) { String sqlDateString = transactionDate.Year+"/"+transactionDate.Month+"/"+transactionDate.Day; I use sqlDateString as part of the commandtext i send off to the database. Its a legacy application and its inline sql so I don't have the freedom to set up a stored procedure and create and assign parameters in my code behind. This works 90% of the time. The webservice is called on the onchange event of m_txtDateAdd. Every now and again the response i get from the server is System.ArgumentException: Cannot convert 25/06/2009 to System.DateTime. • Custom Validation Attribute with Custom Model Binder in MVC 2

  I apologise for the amount of code I have included. I've tried to keep it to a minimum. I'm trying to have a Custom Validator Attribute on my model as well as a Custom Model binder. The Attribute and the Binder work great seperately but if I have both, then the Validation Attribute no longer works. Here is my code snipped for readability. If I leave out the code in global.asax the custom validation fires but not if I have the custom binder enabled. • VB.Net Validate an xml against a schema (strange problem)

  I have written a small XML validator, that takes in an XML file and an XML schema and validates the XML files against that schema. It works well, except for an XML file, with this content: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xc:program xmlns:xc="http:\\www.something.com\Schema\XC10" xc:version="4.0.22.0" > <xc:namespaceDecls> <xc:namespaceDecl xc:namespaceDeclURI="urn:swift:xsd:abc"> <xc:namespaceDeclPrefix>n</xc:namespaceDeclPrefix> </xc:namespaceDecl> </xc:namespaceDecls> </xc:program> I tried to validate this XML file against a bunch of different schemas. No matter which schema I select, this XML file comes out as valid. What is it that I am missing? Here is the relevant piece of code: 'Create a schema cache and add the given schema to it.   I am attempting to upload a file using Zend Framework 1.8 and I get some errors. Here is the code snippet: The form element: $element = new Zend_Form_Element_File('doc'); $element->setLabel('Upload an image:') ->setDestination('/path/to/my/upload/folder'); $element->addValidator('Count', false, 1); $element->addValidator('Size', false, 102400); $element->addValidator('Extension', false, 'jpg,png,gif,doc,docx,xls,xlsx,txt'); $this->addElement($element); The code for handling the upload: $adapter = new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http(); if (!$adapter->receive()) { $messages = $adapter->getMessages(); echo implode("\n", $messages); } This works fine and the file is uploaded but I get the error "The file 'doc' was illegal uploaded, possible attack". I managed to get past this problem by not creating a new Zend_File_Transfer_Adapter_Http() but instead using: $adapter = $form->doc->getTransferAdapter(); With this modification, the first error disappears but now I have an error saying I have provided 2 files instead of one (probably its reading the temp) and when I adjust the validator to accept two files I then get the arror saying "The file 'doc' was not found" and the upload now fails completely. Please help

• JQuery Validation Plugin: Prevent validation issue on nested form

  I have a form on which I use validation. This form has a section for photo upload. Initially this section contains six elements with the following code: <img class="photo_upload" src="image/app/photo_upload.jpg"> I have bound a function to the click event for the class of photo_upload. This function replaces the image with a minimal form with this code: Copy code <form onsubmit="startUploadImage();" target="control_target" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" action="index.php"> <input type="hidden" value="add_image" name="service"> <input type="hidden" value="1000000" name="MAX_FILE_SIZE"> <input type="file" size="10" name="photo" id="photo_file_upload"><br> <button onclick="javascript:cancel_photo_upload();return false;">Cancel</button> </form> So, essentially, after the image is clicked, I'd have a new form nested in my original, validated form. Now, when I use this new form and upload an image, I receive an error (repeated three times) saying: validator is undefined http://host.com/path/index.php Line 286 What is going on here? My guess is this Submit event bubbles up to the outer form As we have validation on that form, validation is triggered, Validation tries to find the form triggering it, Since we have not bound validation to the inner form it returns 'undefined' Now, is my assessment correct? Whether it is or not, how can I solve this issue?

EDIT I discovered that actually the validation function is being called twice: the first time with the default value of the property, which is an empty string if nothing is specified, the second time with the real value read from the configuration file. Is there a way to modify this behavior?

• Convert string to decimal retaining the exact input format

  Hi All, I'm sure this is a piece of cake but I'm really struggling with something that seems trivial. I need to check the inputted text of a textbox on the form submit and check to see if it's within a desired range (I've tried a Range Validator but it doesn't work for some reason so I'm trying to do this server-side). What I want to do is: Get the value inputted (eg. 0.02), replace the commas and periods, convert that to a decimal (or double or equivalent) and check to see if it's between 0.10 and 35000.00. Here's what I have so far: string s = txtTransactionValue.Text.Replace(",", string.Empty).Replace(".", string.Empty); decimal transactionValue = Decimal.Parse(s); if (transactionValue >= 0.10M && transactionValue <= 35000.00M) // do something If I pass 0.02 into the above, transactionValue is 2. Your methods quickly fill up with boilerplate code checking the valid input parameters contract, obscuring the heart of the method. Here's what I'd like to have: public void myContractualMethod(@NotNull @NotEmpty final String x, @NotNull final Set<String> y) { // Now I have a clean method body that isn't obscured by // contract checking If those annotations look like JSR 303/Bean Validation Spec, it's because I borrowed them. Unfortunitely they don't seem to work this way; they are intended for annotating instance variables, then running the object through a validator. Which of the many Java design-by-contract frameworks provide the closest functionality to my "like to have" example? The exceptions that get thrown should be runtime exceptions (like IllegalArgumentExceptions) so encapsulation isn't broken.

• JAXB does not call setter when unmarshalling objects

  Hi all, I am using JAXB 2.0 JDK 6 in order to unmarshall an XML instance into POJOs. In order to add some custom validation I have inserted a validation call into the setter of a property, yet despite it being private, it seems that the unmarshaller does not call the setter but directly modifies the private field.   Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'txtGivenName_OnFocus' is undefined After adding what I thought was unrelated javascript code to a web page, I am suddenly getting errors that suggest that the browser cannot locate a javascript function that, to me, appears plain as day in design mode. I'm thinking that this is a load sequence order problem of some sort. Originally, my script was at the bottom of the page. I did this with the intent of helping my site's SEO ranking. When I moved the function to the top of the web page, the error went away. Now it is back. I have a feeling someone is going to suggest a jQuery solution to execute some code only when the page is fully loaded. I'm I ignorant of jQuery. • Using Javascript to flip flop a textbox's readonly flag

  I have a frame with several radio buttons where the user is supposed to select the "Category" that his Occupation falls into and then unconditionally also specify his occupation. If the user selects "Retired", the requirement is to prefill "Retired" in the "Specify Occupation" text box and to disable it to prevent it from being changed. The Specify Occupation text box should also no longer be a tab stop. If the user selects a radio button other than Retired the Specify Occupation text box should be enabled and once again in the normal tab sequence. Originally, I was setting and clearing the disabled property on the Specify occupation textbox, then I found out that, upon submitting the form, disabled fields are excluded from the submit and the REQUIRED validator on the Specify Occupation textbox was being raised because the textbox was being blanked out. What is the best way to solve this? My approach below was to mimic a disabled text box by setting/resetting the readonly attribute on the text box and changing the background color to make it appear disabled. (I suppose I should be changing the forecolor instead of teh background color). • How to design Models the correct way: Object-oriented or "Package"-oriented?

  I know that in OOP you want every object (from a class) to be a "thing", eg. user, validator etc. I know the basics about MVC, how they different parts interact with each other. However, i wonder if the models in MVC should be designed according to the traditional OOP design, that is to say, should every model be a database/table/row (solution 2)? Or is the intention more like to collect methods that are affecting the same table or a bunch of related tables (solution 1). example for an Address book module in CodeIgniter, where i want be able to "CRUD" a Contact and add/remove it to/from a CRUD-able Contact Group. Its surely not a User object, so why should a Contact "live" with its own state (properties and methods). you experienced guys with OOP/MVC, please shed a light on how one should think here in this very concrete task.

  I want to know how to validate XML with XSD . XML is not of an element type but a complex type . Since validator class's validate method compare only element type.   Hi, I've got a question related to java performance and method execution. In my app there are a lot of place where I have to validate some parameter, so I've written a Validator class and put all the validation methods into it. Here is an example: public class NumberValidator { public static short shortValidator(String s) throws ValidationException{ try{ short sh = Short.parseShort(s); if(sh < 1){ throw new ValidationException(); } return sh; }catch (Exception e) { throw new ValidationException("The parameter is wrong!"); } } ... But I'm thinking about that. Is this OK? It's OO and modularized, but - considering performance - is it a good idea? What if I had awful lot of invocation at the same time? The snippet above is short and fast, but there are some methods that take more time. What happens when there are a lot of calling to a static method or an instance method in the same class and the method is not synchronized? All the calling methods have to fall in line and the JVM executes them sequentially? Is it a good idea to have some class that are identical to the above-mentioned and randomly call their identical methods? I think it is not, because "Don't repeat yourself " and "Duplication is Evil" etc. But what about performance? Thanks is advance.
