  • Doctrine: textarea line breaks & nl2br

    - by Tom
Hi, I'm pulling my hair out with something that should be very simple: getting line breaks to show up properly in text that's returned from the database with Doctrine 1.2 I'm saving a message: $body = [text from a form textarea]; $m = new Message(); $m->setSubject($subject); $m->setBody($body); $m->save(); Querying the message: $q = Doctrine_Query::create() ->from('Message m') ->where('m.message_id = ?', $id) ->limit(1); $this->message = $q->execute(array(), Doctrine_Core::HYDRATE_ARRAY); In my template: echo $message[0]['body'] ... outputs the text without line breaks echo ln2br($message[0]['body']) ... no difference ... and I've tried every combination I could think of. Is Doctrine doing something to line breaks that's affecting this, or is there something that I'm just missing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

if(get_magic_quotes_gpc()) { $location_name = trim(mysql_real_escape_string(trim(stripslashes($_GET['location_name'])))); } else { $location_name = trim(mysql_real_escape_string(trim($_GET['location_name']))); } That's the code I have so far. seems to me this code is fundamentally ... OK. Do you think I can safely remove the inner trim(). Please try not a spam me with endless version of this, I want to try to learn how to do this better.

During a meeting we were asked if there are any viable solutions available that could be integrated into our current systems. • What's the best way to run Wordpress on the same domain as a Rails application?

    - by Brian Deterling
I've got a standard Rails app with Nginx and Mongrel running at http://mydomain. I need to run a Wordpress blog at http://mydomain.com/blog. My preference would be to host the blog in Apache running on either the same server or a separate box but I don't want the user to see a different server in the URL. Is that possible and if not, what would you recommend to accomplish the goal?

  • How can I check with a regex that a string contains only certain allowed characters?

    - by Camran
I need a special regular expression, have no experience in them whatsoever so I am turning to you guys on this one: I need to validate a classifieds title field so it doesn't have any special characters in it, almost. Only letters and numbers should be allowed, and also the swedish three letters å, ä, ö, and also not case sensitive. Besides the above, these should also be allowed: The "&" sign. Parenthesis sign "()" Mathematical signs "-", "+", "%", "/", "*" Dollar and Euro signs One accent signed letter: "é". //Only this one is required Double quote and singel quote signs. The comma "," and point "." signs Thanks

  • What is good practice for writing web applications that control daemons (and their config files)

    - by Jones R
Can someone suggest some basic advice on dealing with web applications that interact with configuration files like httpd.conf, bind zone files, etc. I understand that it's bad practice, in fact very dangerous to allow arbitrary execution of code without fully validating it and so on. But say you are tasked to write a small app that allows one to add vhosts to an apache configuration. Do you have your code execute with full privileges, do you write future variables into a database and have a cron job (with full privileges) execute a script that pulls the vars from the database and throws them into a template config file, etc. Some thoughts & contributions on this issue would be appreciated. tl;dr - how can you securely write a web app to update/create entries in a config file like apache's httpd.conf, etc.

  • restrict the scope of variables in a mysql query? with brackets?

    - by Haroldo
I can't remember what the method is meant to be for ensuring the scope of a variable in a query is restricted to prevent mysql injection. where should i put brackets in the following examples? UPDATE table SET col_1 = '$var', col_2 = '$var2' WHERE col_1 = '$var3' and SELECT * FROM table WHERE WHERE col_1 >= '$var1' (Obviously looking for answers not using PDO!)

  • mysqli::query returns true on SELECT statement

    - by Travis Pessetto
I have an application that reads in one of its classes: public function __construct() { global $config; //Establish a connection to the database and get results set $this->db = new Database("localhost",$config["dbuser"],$config["dbpass"],"student"); $this->records = $this->db->query("SELECT * FROM major") or die("ERROR: ".$this->db->error); echo "<pre>".var_dump($this->records)."</pre>"; } My problem is that var_dump shows that $this->records is a boolean. I've read the documentation and see that the SELECT query should return a result set. This is the only query used by the application. Any ideas where I am going wrong?

  • 42000 Syntax error in query when executing prepared statement

    - by Griff McGriff
I have been pulling my hair out trying to swap my current script over to PDO. I have simplified the MySQL query for this example, but the error remains even with this version. $sql = 'SELECT * FROM :table WHERE lastUpdate > :appDate'; try{ $db = connect(); $stmt = $db->prepare($sql); $stmt->bindParam(':table', $table); $stmt->bindParam(':appDate', $appDate); foreach($tablesToCheck as $table){ $stmt->execute(); $resultset[] = $stmt->fetchAll(); } } catch(PDOException $e){ print 'Error!: '.$e->getMessage().'<br/>'; }//End try catch $stmt-errorInfo() returns: ( [0] => 42000 [1] => 1064 [2] => You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ''GroupName' WHERE lastUpdate > NULL' at line 1 )

  • Match Anything Except a Sub-pattern

    - by Tim Lytle
I'd like to accomplish what this (invalid I believe) regular expression tries to do: <p><a>([^(<\/a>)]+?)<\/a></p>uniquestring Essentially match anything except a closing anchor tag. Simple non-greedy doesn't help here because `uniquestring' may very well be after another distant closing anchor tag: <p><a>text I don't <tag>want</tag> to match</a></p>random data<p><a>text I do <tag>want to</tag> match</a></p>uniquestring more matches <p><a>of <tag>text I do</tag> want to match</a></p>uniquestring So I have more tag in between the anchor tags. And I'm using the presence of uniquestring to determine if I want to match the data. So a simple non-greedy ends up matching everything from the start of the data I don't want to the end of the data I do want. I know I'm edging close to the problems regular expressions (or at least my knowledge of them) aren't good at solving. I could just through the data at an HTML/XML parser, but it is just one simple(ish) search. Is there some easy way to do this that I'm just missing?

  • Assigning Object to View, big MySQL resultset.

    - by A Finn
Hello (Sorry for my bad English) Is it bad practice to assign object to view and call its methods in there? I use smarty as my template engine. In my controller I could do like this 1# $this->view->assign("name", $this->model->getName); and in my view <p>{$name}</p> OR 2# $this->view->assign("Object", $this->model); and in my view <p>{$Report->getName()}</p> Well my biggest problem is that I have to handle a big amount of data coming out from the MySQL and I thought that if I would made a method that would print out the data while looping mysql_fetch_row. Well at least I know that using html-tags in the model is a bad thing to do. So I would assign the object to the view to get the result to the right position on the page.. Reading a mysql-result to an array first may cause memory problems am I right? So what is the solution doing things MVC style.. And yes Im using a framework of my own.

  • Percentage difference between different values in the same keys of two different arrays.

    - by Paul
    Hey. I'm looking for a solution to this problem. I got 2 arrays, like this: array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "19088" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "15566" } } array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "12043" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "11953" } } Now I'd like to create a new array, with the % difference between the values per key. Would be something like this: array(2) { [20100526]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "88,23" } [20100527]=> array(1) { ["ga:pageviews"]=> string(5) "74,54" } } Can anyone help me how to create that array?
