• Cant print contents of a custom file

  Hello, Im trying to scan contents from a random file into an array in a structure. Then I want to print those contents on screen. • Browser extensions to re-render the page using an updated version of my CSS file, without reloading the page itself

  I want to learn Web UI design. (I know, I know. Being a programmer puts me at a disadvantage. But I want to try anyway.) Thus, I would like to "debug" my CSS files. Once of the biggest annoyances I have found is that I cannot test a change in my CSS files without reloading the whole page. Sometimes, the page is too big. Sometimes, a lot of elements were brought to the page after lots of clicks, because my pages rely too heavily on AJAX. Sometimes, I just hate hitting Command+R all the time. Is there any extension for any of the major browsers (preferably Safari and/or Chrome) that re-renders the page using an updated version of the CSS file, without reloading the whole page itself?

  I am working with UIWebView project and I want to load an HTML file from a project resource. It is working fine when I run from the URL, but when I view the HTML file locally, JS files are not loaded. Loading the local HTML local file doesn't refer to js files in UIWebView. • Ruby - Writing Hpricot data to a file

  Hey everyone, I am currently doing some XML parsing and I've chosen to use Hpricot because of it's ease of use and syntax, however I am running into some problems. I need to write a piece of XML data that I have found out to another file. However, when I do this the format is not preserved. For example, if the content should look like this: <dict> <key>item1</key><value>12345</value> <key>item2</key><value>67890</value> <key>item3</key><value>23456</value> </dict> And assuming that there are many entries like this in the document. I am iterating through the 'dict' items by using hpricot_element = Hpricot(xml_document_body) f = File.new('some_new_file.xml') (hpricot_element/:dict).each { |dict| f.write( dict.to_original_html ) } After using the above code, I would expect that the output look like the following exactly like the XML shown above. However to my surprise, the output of the file looks more like this: <dict>\n", " <key>item1</key><value>12345</value>\n", " <key>item2</key><value>67890</value>\n", " <key>item3</key><value>23456</value\n", " </dict> I've tried splitting at the "\n" characters and writing to the file one line at a time, but that didn't seem to work either as it did not recognize the "\n" characters. Any help is greatly appreciated. It might be a very simple solution, but I am having troubling finding it. Thanks!

• Input multiple file names in windows open file dialog box

  Windows 7 allows you to select multiple files to open at once by using ctrl or shift key. The "File Name" input field at the bottom of the dialog box would auto populate with the following sample: "aaa.txt" "bbb.txt" "ccc.txt" "ddd.txt" I have 14,000 files in a folder and I only need a range of files (approx 500). When I use the shift key to select a range of files, the "File Name" field auto populates all 500 file names. Windows would cut me off at the 260th character when I try to paste in a pre-generated string into the "File Name" field. Is there a way to bypass the 260 character limit so it would accept my entire string with 500 file names?

  I'm not sure if this is possible, I've been googling for a solution... But, essentially, I have a very large file, the lines of which I want to store in an array. Thus, I'm using file(), but is there a way to do that in batches? So that every,say, 100 lines it creates, it "pauses"? I think there's likely to be something I can do with a foreach loop or something, but I'm not sure that I'm thinking about it the right way... Like $i=0; $j=0; $throttle=100; foreach($files as $k => $v) { if($i < $j+$throttle && $i > $j) { $lines[] = file($v); //Do some other stuff, like importing into a db } $i++; $j++; } But, I think that won't really work because $i & $j will always be equal... Anyway, feeling muddled... Can someone help me think a lil' clearer?

Is there a way to avoid that? I know using this tech Notepad.exe will as the first param passed to Notepad2.exe. but I don't know how to avoid this :(

  Hi All, Quick question - I run two linux boxes, one my own desktop and the other my VPS. For security reasons on the VPS end I opted for socket connections to MySQL (/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock). I know I can tunnel like this: ssh -L 3307:127.0.0.1:3306 [email protected] if I set up the remote sql server to listen on some port, but what I want to know is can I do something like: ssh -L /path/to/myremotesqlserver.sock:/var/run/mysqld/mysql.sock thereby tunnelling two sockets, as opposed to two ports? A perfectly acceptable solution would also be to forward a local port to the remote socket file, but where possible I'm trying not to have tcp servers running on the remote box.   Hi, In my MacOS 10.5, it has set all my *.patch files to open with 'Notepad in Windows Via parallel'. I have tried to change it by 1. click 'OpenWith..' 2. select 'TextEdit' 3. check the 'Always Open With' box But still when I get new *.patch file, it will set to open 'Nodepad in Windows' by default. Can you please tell me how can I change that for good? Thank you.

• Software to automatically download a file from FTP and then rename->replace existing file

  Hi. We pay a news agency to provide us mp3's of hourly news bulletins. They put the mp3's on a FTP server just about 10 minutes before every hour, with files named after date and time (example: 02012010_1600.mp3 or similar). I need to find some solution to download only the latest modified file from the FTP server, rename it to news.mp3 and replace the previous news.mp3 that was created. This should prefferably run on a Windows 2008 Server, as a service if its possible. Anyone have suggestion for software?

• How to edit semi-plaintext file and maintaining character structure?

  I am using a software (Groupmail from Infacta) that uses exact / absolute %PATHS% for saving some settings in specific semi-plaintext file. This is a really bad idea because you can't move to USER folder, or like my case it does not work after migrating to a new computer with different language. For example: C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Local Settings\Application Data\Infacta is different than C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Configuración local\Datos de programa\Infacta Obviously, the software does not work well. I tried to solve this using Find/Replace the new PATH with Notepad++. While the Groupmail software loads well and shows settings correctly, the software fails when trying to save data on that file. I guess this is because length or number of replaced characters is different and also it corrupt the file. Please could you help me to edit this file maintaining file integrity / structure?

• Android openvpn + zeroconf browser sending mdns query packets over eth0 instead of tap0 interface on wifi

  On an android device, I am connecting to a remote network using openvpn for performing service discovery. WORKING CASE: After the device is camped on 3g/4g and after connecting to remote network by openvpn, when the zeroconf browser is launched, I can see the mdns query packets being send through the tap0 interface resulting into rendering of services on the browser. From the tcpdump captured on the device, I can see that the mdns query packets are send to tap0 interface. tap0 ip: 192.168.11.200 Route table information: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface 76.26.112.234 10.179.240.1 255.255.255.255 UGH 0 0 0 pdpbr1 10.179.240.1 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 pdpbr1 32.1.72.136 * 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 pdpbr0 10.179.240.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 pdpbr1 192.168.11.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 tap0 default 192.168.11.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 tap0 NOT WORKING CASE: However, after switching on the wifi and connecting it to remote network, when the zeroconf browser is launched, instead of sending the mdns query packets to tap0 interface; these packets are being send to eth0 interface due to which we cannot see the services. I tried (inside a batch file): for /r test %%f in (foo bar.txt) do if exist %%f echo %%f where the command is the simple echo. It does not work because the space is skipped and I get no output. This works but it is not what I need: for /r test %%f in (foobar.txt) do if exist %%f echo %%f It prints: C:\test\folder1\foobar.txt C:\test\folder2\foobar.txt C:\test\folder3\foobar.txt I tried using the quotation mark (") but it does not work: for /r test %%f in ("foo bar.txt") do if exist %%f echo %%f It does not work because the quotation mark is still included in the output: C:\test\folder1\"foo bar.txt" C:\test\folder2\"foo bar.txt" C:\test\folder3\"foo bar.txt"

• Why is Internet Explorer treating a file as a web page?

  I am trying to download a Photoshop shape file (.csh), and instead of downloading it, IE treats it as a webpage and shows a series of symbols. When I try to save it, I am told to either save as an html file or txt file. If I save as txt file and change the extension, Photoshop says it is invalid, since IE saves the text source, not the actual file. I ended up having to use a download program to download it. Why is IE treating it as a webpage, and is there a way to fix the problem? Firefox shows the same issue.

Some of my findings: powertop: best for write access logging, but more focused on CPU activity iotop: shows real time disk access by process, but not file name lsof: shows the open files per process, but not real time file access iostat: shows the real time I/O performance of disk/arrays but does not indicate file or process

  I'm exploring different ways of storing user-uploaded files (all are MS Office documents or alikes) on our high load web site. It's currently designed to store documents as files and have a SQL database store all metadata for those files. I'm concerned about growing out of the storage server and SQL server performance when number of documents reaches hundreds of millions. I was reading a lot of good information about CouchDB including its built-in scalability and performance, but I'm not sure how storing files as attachments in CouchDB would compare to storing files on a file system in terms of performance. Anybody used CouchDB clusters for storing LARGE amounts of documents and in high load environment?

  I've had users sending copyrighted files (songs, videos) to each other over email. I blocked the file extensions .mp3 etc. What some users have done is to rename files to .doc etc. I cant block .doc etc filetypes because they are needed for day-to-day work. I'm using MDaemon 12 mailserver, Does anyone know how to make it block these attachments? I've been working on some content scanning for filetype code, but was wondering if there is a already made solution?

• Deleting file in Samba doesn't delete file?

  Why, when I delete some files in Samba, does it not delete them but instead merely change their filename from filename.txt to ._filename.txt? This is not the behaviour one would expect when "deleting" a file, so I'm wondering if there's an option I forgot to set somewhere in the samba config. It does this to some files but not to others, I have not yet spotted a pattern to its choosiness. There is a Ubuntu 12.04 machine and a Mac OS X machine which have write (and thus delete) capability, no Windows machines have write permission.

• Tell the linux kernel to put a file in the disk cache?

  Is there any command to for a file to be read in and loaded into the linux disk cache? This is on an up-to-date debian system. I know in the general case, it's better to let the linux kernel figure this out. But I have an edge case. I have a laptop that has an NFS director mounted, and i want to play a long video file, but I don't want to have a network problem interrupt the playnig. I know that (largeish) file will be read in it's entirety later on. I know that nothing else (really) will be running while playing this video. There is enough free memory to store this file. (I know I could just copy the file into a new tmpfs filesystem, but I'm curious if there's an even shorter way to do it)
