  • Null Safe dereferencing in Java like ?. in Groovy using Maybe monad

    - by Sathish
    I'm working on a codebase ported from Objective C to Java. There are several usages of method chaining without nullchecks dog.collar().tag().name() I was looking for something similar to safe-dereferencing operator ?. in Groovy instead of having nullchecks dog.collar?.tag?.name This led to Maybe monad to have the notion of Nothing instead of Null. But all the implementations of Nothing i came across throw exception when value is accessed which still doesn't solve the chaining problem. I made Nothing return a mock, which behaves like NullObject pattern. But it solves the chaining problem. Is there anything wrong with this implementation of Nothing? [http://github.com/sathish316/jsafederef/blob/master/src/s2k/util/safederef/Nothing.java] As far as i can see 1. It feels odd to use mocking library in code 2. It doesn't stop at the first null. 3. How do i distinguish between null result because of null reference or name actually being null? How is it distinguished in Groovy code?

  • Append data to same text file using java

    - by Manu
    SimpleDateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("ddMMyyyy_HHmmSS"); String strCurrDate = formatter.format(new java.util.Date()); String strfileNm = "Customer_" + strCurrDate + ".txt"; String strFileGenLoc = strFileLocation + "/" + strfileNm; String Query1="select '0'||to_char(sysdate,'YYYYMMDD')||'123456789' class_code from dual"; String Query2="select '0'||to_char(sysdate,'YYYYMMDD')||'123456789' class_code from dual"; try { Statement stmt = null; ResultSet rs = null; Statement stmt1 = null; ResultSet rs1 = null; stmt = conn.createStatement(); stmt1 = conn.createStatement(); rs = stmt.executeQuery(Query1); rs1 = stmt1.executeQuery(Query2); File f = new File(strFileGenLoc); OutputStream os = (OutputStream)new FileOutputStream(f,true); String encoding = "UTF8"; OutputStreamWriter osw = new OutputStreamWriter(os, encoding); BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(osw); while (rs.next() ) { bw.write(rs.getString(1)==null? "":rs.getString(1)); bw.write(" "); } bw.flush(); bw.close(); } catch (Exception e) { System.out.println( "Exception occured while getting resultset by the query"); e.printStackTrace(); } finally { try { if (conn != null) { System.out.println("Closing the connection" + conn); conn.close(); } } catch (SQLException e) { System.out.println( "Exception occured while closing the connection"); e.printStackTrace(); } } return objArrayListValue; } The above code is working fine. it writes the content of "rs" resultset data in text file Now what i want is ,i need to append the the content in "rs2" resultset to the "same text file"(ie . i need to append "rs2" content with "rs" content in the same text file)..

    - by dori naji
    probability this question have been asked before but i cant find anything in my searching mechanism. I am trying to create a multiple threads, in an array list but i want to retrieve them from an arraylist and filter them by the attribute of w1 i used in my code. any ideas ? w1 = new FirstWorker(ProductsList, OrdersList, s); FirstWorkerThread = new Thread(w1); ThreadArrayList.add(FirstWorkerThread); //I know i cant do the code below but i want to do that how ? for(Thread x : ThreadArrayList){ x.ProductsList } this is FirstWorker class import java.lang.String; import java.util.HashMap; /* * To change this template, choose Tools | Templates and open the template in * the editor. */ /** * * @author Dimitris */ public class FirstWorker extends Thread implements Runnable { private OrderList orderlist; private ProductList productlist; private String Worker; boolean Stop; private int speed = 1000; public FirstWorker(ProductList productlist, OrderList orderlist, String Worker) { this.productlist = productlist; this.orderlist = orderlist; this.Worker = Worker; this.Stop = true; } public void run() { if (Stop == true) { try { Thread.sleep(100); } catch (InterruptedException e) { } while (orderlist.returnLengthofOrder() != 0) { if (Thread.interrupted()) { System.out.println("I am in the thread inturrupt"); // We've been interrupted: no more crunching. return; } if (orderlist.getDone() == true) { } else if (orderlist.getDone() == false) { orderlist.setDoneTrue(); orderlist.Purchased(Worker); orderlist.setDoneFalse(); try { Thread.sleep(this.speed); } catch (InterruptedException e) { return; } } } } } public void setWork() { Stop = false; } public void setSpeed(int speed) { this.speed = speed; } }

  • Good way to maintain Muliple level selection menu list in J2ME

    - by geoaxis
    Hello, I need a good way to maintain multiple form level data for menue selection. So for example If I have A and B, each might Have 1 2 3 so A A1 A2 A3 B B1 B2 B3 And this can continue for long, so that I could have A - A1 - A1.1 - A1.1.1 -.... I have the following class in place, works ok But I suspect we could have better. I just need to perform selection ni a selection tree like Widget, but each level of selection comes in another form (in J2ME) import java.util.Vector; public class Tag { private String tag; private Vector childTags; private Tag parent; Tag(String tag, Vector childtag) { this.tag = tag; this.childTags= childTags; } public void setChildTags(Vector childTags) { this.childTags = childTags; } public Vector getChildTags() { return this.childTags; } public String getTag() { return this.tag; } public String toString(int depth) { String a =""; if(depth==0) { a = a + this.getTag(); } if(this.getChildTags()!= null) { for(int k=0;k <this.getChildTags().capacity(); k++) { for (int i=0; i<depth; i++ ) { a = a + ("-"); } a = a+ ( ((Tag)this.getChildTags().elementAt(k)).toString(depth++)); } } return a; } }

  • TreeMap sort by value

    - by vito huang
    I'm new to java, i want to write an comparator to that will let me sort TreeMap by value instead of the default natural sorting. i tried something like this, but can't find out what went wrong: import java.util.*; class treeMap { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("the main"); byValue cmp = new byValue(); Map<String, Integer> map = new TreeMap<String, Integer>(cmp); map.put("de",10); map.put("ab", 20); map.put("a",5); for (Map.Entry<String,Integer> pair: map.entrySet()) { System.out.println(pair.getKey()+":"+pair.getValue()); } } } class byValue implements Comparator<Map.Entry<String,Integer>> { public int compare(Map.Entry<String,Integer> e1, Map.Entry<String,Integer> e2) { if (e1.getValue() < e2.getValue()){ return 1; } else if (e1.getValue() == e2.getValue()) { return 0; } else { return -1; } } } I guess what am i asking is what controls what get pass to comparator function, can i get an Map.Entry pass to comparator?

  • Setting a parameter as a list for an IN expression

    - by perilandmishap
    Whenever I try to set a list as a parameter for use in an IN expression I get an Illegal argument exception. Various posts on the internet seem to indicate that this is possible, but it's certainly not working for me. I'm using Glassfish V2.1 with Toplink. Has anyone else been able to get this to work, if so how? here's some example code: List<String> logins = em.createQuery("SELECT a.accountManager.loginName " + "FROM Account a " + "WHERE a.id IN (:ids)") .setParameter("ids",Arrays.asList(new Long(1000100), new Long(1000110))) .getResultList(); and the relevant part of the stack trace: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: You have attempted to set a value of type class java.util.Arrays$ArrayList for parameter accountIds with expected type of class java.lang.Long from query string SELECT a.accountManager.loginName FROM Account a WHERE a.id IN (:accountIds). at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.ejb.cmp3.base.EJBQueryImpl.setParameterInternal(EJBQueryImpl.java:663) at oracle.toplink.essentials.internal.ejb.cmp3.EJBQueryImpl.setParameter(EJBQueryImpl.java:202) at com.corenap.newtDAO.ContactDaoBean.getNotificationAddresses(ContactDaoBean.java:437) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke0(Native Method) at sun.reflect.NativeMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(NativeMethodAccessorImpl.java:39) at sun.reflect.DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.invoke(DelegatingMethodAccessorImpl.java:25) at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:597) at com.sun.enterprise.security.application.EJBSecurityManager.runMethod(EJBSecurityManager.java:1011) at com.sun.enterprise.security.SecurityUtil.invoke(SecurityUtil.java:175) at com.sun.ejb.containers.BaseContainer.invokeTargetBeanMethod(BaseContainer.java:2920) at com.sun.ejb.containers.BaseContainer.intercept(BaseContainer.java:4011) at com.sun.ejb.containers.EJBObjectInvocationHandler.invoke(EJBObjectInvocationHandler.java:203) ... 67 more

  • WebService Stubs WSDL Axis2

    - by tt0686
    Good afternoon in my timezone. I have a wsdl file with the following snippet of code: <schema targetNamespace="http://util.cgd.pt" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <import namespace="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" /> <complexType name="Attribute"> <sequence> <element name="fieldType" nillable="true" type="xsd:string" /> <element name="dataType" nillable="true" type="xsd:string" /> <element name="name" nillable="true" type="xsd:string" /> <element name="value" nillable="true" type="xsd:string" /> </sequence> </complexType> <complexType name="ArrayOffAttribute"> <complexContent> <restriction base="soapenc:Array"> <attribute ref="soapenc:arrayType" wsdl:arrayType="tns3:Attribute[]" /> </restriction> </complexContent> </complexType> When i use jax-rpc or Axis1 to generate the stubs the type Attribute is generated, but when i use Axis2 the type Attribute is not generated and a new type is created ArrayOffAttribute, this new type extends the axis2.databinding.types.soapencoding.Array and permits to add elements through the array.addObject(object), my question is, i am migrating one Java EE application from webservices using jax-rpc to start using Axis2, and the methods are using the Attribute type to fullfill attributes fields, now in Axis2 and do not have attribute type , what should i use in the ArrayOffAttribute.addObject(?) ? Could be something wrong with Axis2 ? i am stop here :( Thanks in advance Best regards

  • Problem when copying array of different types using Arrays.copyOf

    - by Shervin
    I am trying to create a method that pretty much takes anything as a parameter, and returns a concatenated string representation of the value with some delimiter. public static String getConcatenated(char delim, Object ...names) { String[] stringArray = Arrays.copyOf(names, names.length, String[].class); //Exception here return getConcatenated(delim, stringArray); } And the actual method public static String getConcatenated(char delim, String ... names) { if(names == null || names.length == 0) return ""; StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); for(int i = 0; i < names.length; i++) { String n = names[i]; if(n != null) { sb.append(n.trim()); sb.append(delim); } } //Remove the last delim return sb.substring(0, sb.length()-1).toString(); } And I have the following JUnit test: final String two = RedpillLinproUtils.getConcatenated(' ', "Shervin", "Asgari"); Assert.assertEquals("Result", "Shervin Asgari", two); //OK final String three = RedpillLinproUtils.getConcatenated(';', "Shervin", "Asgari"); Assert.assertEquals("Result", "Shervin;Asgari", three); //OK final String four = RedpillLinproUtils.getConcatenated(';', "Shervin", null, "Asgari", null); Assert.assertEquals("Result", "Shervin;Asgari", four); //OK final String five = RedpillLinproUtils.getConcatenated('/', 1, 2, null, 3, 4); Assert.assertEquals("Result", "1/2/3/4", five); //FAIL However, the test fails on the last part with the exception: java.lang.ArrayStoreException at java.lang.System.arraycopy(Native Method) at java.util.Arrays.copyOf(Arrays.java:2763) Can someone spot the error?

  • Why are Managed Beans not loaded in Tomcat?

    - by c0d3x
    Hi, I created a JSF 2 web application with facelets. The libs for JSF where stored at tomcat/lib, to share it between several applications. I thought maybe it would be better to store the libs inside the WEB-INF/lib folder of the application, to get the application more independent from server configurations. Now when I start tomcat via eclipse, the managed beans are loaded and working. But when I start tomcat directly / standalone the managed beans are not loaded automatically. I used @ManagedBean @SessionScoped / @RequestScoped annotations to declare classes as managed beans. Why is this? What can I do to fix it? I don't use any faces-config.xml file yet. Thanks in advance. edited: Maybe this helps to see whats going on: javax.el.PropertyNotFoundException: /Artikel.xhtml @12,108 value="#{artikelBackingBean.nameFilterPattern}": Target Unreachable, identifier 'artikelBackingBean' resolved to null at com.sun.faces.facelets.el.TagValueExpression.getType(TagValueExpression.java:93) at com.sun.faces.renderkit.html_basic.HtmlBasicInputRenderer.getConvertedValue(HtmlBasicInputRenderer.java:95) at javax.faces.component.UIInput.getConvertedValue(UIInput.java:1008) at javax.faces.component.UIInput.validate(UIInput.java:934) at javax.faces.component.UIInput.executeValidate(UIInput.java:1189) at javax.faces.component.UIInput.processValidators(UIInput.java:691) at javax.faces.component.UIForm.processValidators(UIForm.java:243) at javax.faces.component.UIComponentBase.processValidators(UIComponentBase.java:1080) at javax.faces.component.UIViewRoot.processValidators(UIViewRoot.java:1180) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.ProcessValidationsPhase.execute(ProcessValidationsPhase.java:76) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.Phase.doPhase(Phase.java:101) at com.sun.faces.lifecycle.LifecycleImpl.execute(LifecycleImpl.java:118) at javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.service(FacesServlet.java:312) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.internalDoFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:290) at org.apache.catalina.core.ApplicationFilterChain.doFilter(ApplicationFilterChain.java:206) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardWrapperValve.invoke(StandardWrapperValve.java:233) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardContextValve.invoke(StandardContextValve.java:191) at org.apache.catalina.authenticator.AuthenticatorBase.invoke(AuthenticatorBase.java:433) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardHostValve.invoke(StandardHostValve.java:128) at org.apache.catalina.valves.ErrorReportValve.invoke(ErrorReportValve.java:102) at org.apache.catalina.core.StandardEngineValve.invoke(StandardEngineValve.java:109) at org.apache.catalina.connector.CoyoteAdapter.service(CoyoteAdapter.java:293) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Processor.process(Http11Processor.java:849) at org.apache.coyote.http11.Http11Protocol$Http11ConnectionHandler.process(Http11Protocol.java:583) at org.apache.tomcat.util.net.JIoEndpoint$Worker.run(JIoEndpoint.java:454) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619)

  • how to Compute the average probe length for success and failure - Linear probe (Hash Tables)

    - by fang_dejavu
    hi everyone, I'm doing an assignment for my Data Structures class. we were asked to to study linear probing with load factors of .1, .2 , .3, ...., and .9. The formula for testing is: The average probe length using linear probing is roughly Success-- ( 1 + 1/(1-L)**2)/2 or Failure-- (1+1(1-L))/2. we are required to find the theoretical using the formula above which I did(just plug the load factor in the formula), then we have to calculate the empirical (which I not quite sure how to do). here is the rest of the requirements **For each load factor, 10,000 randomly generated positive ints between 1 and 50000 (inclusive) will be inserted into a table of the "right" size, where "right" is strictly based upon the load factor you are testing. Repeats are allowed. Be sure that your formula for randomly generated ints is correct. There is a class called Random in java.util. USE it! After a table of the right (based upon L) size is loaded with 10,000 ints, do 100 searches of newly generated random ints from the range of 1 to 50000. Compute the average probe length for each of the two formulas and indicate the denominators used in each calculationSo, for example, each test for a .5 load would have a table of size approximately 20,000 (adjusted to be prime) and similarly each test for a .9 load would have a table of approximate size 10,000/.9 (again adjusted to be prime). The program should run displaying the various load factors tested, the average probe for each search (the two denominators used to compute the averages will add to 100), and the theoretical answers using the formula above. .** how do I calculate the empirical success?

  • xmlEncoder not writing in netBeans

    - by Greg
    Hi, I am trying to use the xmlEncoder to write to xml file in net-beans but it doesnt work. Here is the call to the writing function: dbManipulator.writeStudents(deps); where deps = new Hashtable<String, Department>(); dbManipulator = new DataBaseManipulator(); Department is an class-object I made, and here is writeStudents method which is located in the DataBaseManipulator class: public void writeStudents(Hashtable<Integer, Student> students) { XMLEncoder encoder = null; try { encoder = new XMLEncoder(new FileOutputStream(".\\test\\Students.xml")); } catch(Exception e){} encoder.writeObject(students); encoder.close(); }//end of function writeStudents() Any ideas why it isnt working? I tried changing the hashtable to vector but still the xml file looks like that after the writing: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <java version="1.6.0_18" class="java.beans.XMLDecoder"> <object class="java.util.Hashtable"/> </java> Thanks in advance, Greg

  • JPA native query join returns object but dereference throws class cast exception

Even Object[] foo = out.get(0); would throw an ClassCastException :(

  • private class calling a method from its outer class

    - by oxinabox.ucc.asn.au
    Ok, so I have a class for a "Advanced Data Structure" (in this case a kinda tree) SO I implimented a Iterator as a private class with in it. So the iterator needs to implement a remove function to remove the last retuirned element. now my ADT already impliments a remove function, and in this case there is very little (thinking about it, i think nothing) to be gain by implimenting a different remove function for the iterator. so how do I go about calling the remove from my ADT sketch of my struture: public class ADT { ... private class ADT_Iterator impliments java.util.Itorator{ ... public void remove(){ //where I want to call the ADT's remove function from } ... public void remove( Object paramFoo ) { ... } ... } So just calling remove(FooInstance) won't work (will it?) and this.remove(FooInstance) is the same thing. what do i call? (and changign the name of the ADT's remove function is not an option, as that AD T has to meet an Interace wich I am note at liberty to change) I could make both of them call a removeHelper functon, I guess...

  • Access report not showing data

    - by Brian Smith
    I have two queries that I am using to generate a report from, the problem is when I run the report, three fields do not show any data at all for some reason. Query 1: SELECT ClientSummary.Field3 AS PM, ClientSummary.[Client Nickname 2] AS [Project #], ClientSummary.[Client Nickname 1] AS Customer, ClientSummary.[In Reference To] AS [Job Name], ClientSummary.Field10 AS Contract, (select sum([Billable Slip Value]) from Util_bydate as U1 where U1.[Client Nickname 2] = ClientSummary.[Client Nickname 2]) AS [This Week], (select sum([Billable Slip Value]) from Util as U2 where U2.[Client Nickname 2] = ClientSummary.[Client Nickname 2] ) AS [To Date], [To Date]/[Contract] AS [% Spent], 0 AS Backlog, ClientSummary.[Total Slip Fees & Costs] AS Billed, ClientSummary.Payments AS Paid, ClientSummary.[Total A/R] AS Receivable, [Forms]![ReportMenu]![StartDate] AS [Start Date], [Forms]![ReportMenu]![EndDate] AS [End Date] FROM ClientSummary; Query 2: SELECT JobManagement_Summary.pm, JobManagement_Summary.[project #], JobManagement_Summary.Customer, JobManagement_Summary.[Job Name], JobManagement_Summary.Contract, IIf(IsNull([This Week]),0,[This Week]) AS [N_This Week], IIf(IsNull([To Date]),0,[To Date]) AS [N_To Date], [% Spent], JobManagement_Summary.Backlog, JobManagement_Summary.Billed, JobManagement_Summary.Paid, JobManagement_Summary.Receivable, JobManagement_Summary.[Start Date], JobManagement_Summary.[End Date] FROM JobManagement_Summary; When I run the report from query 2 these 3 fields don't appear. N_This Week, N_To Date and % Spent. All have no data. It isn't the IIF functions, as it doesn't matter if I have those in there or remove them. Any thoughts? If I connect directly to the first recordset it works fine, but then SQL throws the error message: Multi-level GROUP BY cause not allowed in subquery. Is there any way to get around that message to link to it directly or does anyone have ANY clue why these fields are coming back blank? I am at wits end here!

  • How do I return an array from a method?

    - by dwwilson66
    I'm trying to create a deck of cards for my homework. Code is posted below. I need to create four sets of cards (the four suits) and am create a multidimensional array. When I print the results instead of trying to pass the array, I can see that the data in the array is as expected. However, when I try to pass the array card, I get an error cannot find symbol. I've got this modeled after texbook and Java tutorial examples, and I need some help figuring out what I'm missing. I've over-documented to give an idea of how I'm thinking this SHOULD work...please let me know where I've gone horribly wrong in my understanding. import java.util.*; import java.lang.*; // public class CardGame { public static int[][] main(String[] args) { int[][] startDeck = deckOfCards(); /* cast new deck as int[][], calling method deckOfCards System.out.println(" /// from array: " + Arrays.deepToString(startDeck)); } public static int[][] deckOfCards() /* method to return a multi-dimensional array */ { int rank; int suit; for(rank=1;rank<14;rank++) /* cards 1 - 13 .... */ { for(suit=1;suit<5;suit++) /* suits 1 - 4 .... */ { int[][] card = new int[][] /* define a new card... */ { {rank,suit} /* with rank/suit from for... loops */ }; System.out.println(" /// from array: " + Arrays.deepToString(card)); } } return card; /* Error: cannot find symbol } }

  • File.Move does not inherit permissions from target directory?

    - by Joseph Kingry
    In case something goes wrong in creating a file, I've been writing to a temporary file and then moving to the destination. Something like: var destination = @"C:\foo\bar.txt"; var tempFile = Path.GetTempFileName(); using (var stream = File.OpenWrite(tempFile)) { // write to file here here } string backupFile = null; try { var dir = Path.GetDirectoryName(destination); if (!Directory.Exists(dir)) { Directory.CreateDirectory(dir); Util.SetPermissions(dir); } if (File.Exists(destination)) { backupFile = Path.Combine(Path.GetTempPath(), new Guid().ToString()); File.Move(destination, backupFile); } File.Move(tempFile, destination); if (backupFile != null) { File.Delete(backupFile); } } catch(IOException) { if(backupFile != null && !File.Exists(destination) && File.Exists(backupFile)) { File.Move(backupFile, destination); } } The problem is that the new "bar.txt" in this case does not inherit permissions from the "C:\foo" directory. Yet if I create a file via explorer/notepad etc directly in the "C:\foo" there's no issues, so I believe the permissions are correctly set on "C:\foo". Update Found Inherited permissions are not automatically updated when you move folders, maybe it applies to folders as well. Now looking for a way to force an update of file permissions. Is there a better way overall of doing this?
