I'm curious about why early versions of the BASIC programming language had line numbering like in:
42 PRINT "Hello world!"
The text editors back then had no line numbering?
With some HTML like this:
<p>Some Text</p>
Then some CSS like this:
p {
color:black;
}
p:hover {
color:red;
}
How can I allow a long touch on a touch enabled device to replicate hover? I can change markup/use JS etc, but can't think of an easy way to do this.
I have a group of geometries stored in MySQl (as polygon and as well-known text) representing counties.
I can build a table of geometries and color codes after querying some county data (say GDP per capita).
What is the best way to export this as an SVG map? I cannot find any reference to SVG conversion in the MySQL documentation.
I'm working on a php(codeigniter) form that sends data to a PDF file when submitted. I can get value of a text field to populate corresponding field in PDF but don't know how to display checkbox in pdf. Can someone help please?
thanks
Ahammed
I have a UML project (built in IBM's Rational System Architect/Modeler, so stored in their XML format) that has grown quite large. Additionally, it now contains several pieces that other groups would like to re-use. I come from a software development (especially FOSS) background, and am trying to understand how to use that as an analogy here. The problem I am grappling with is similar to the Fragile Base Class problem.
Let me start with how it works in an object-oriented (say, Java or Ruby) FOSS ecosystem:
Group 1 publishes some "core" package, say "net/smtp version 1.0"
Group 2 includes Group 1's net/smtp 1.0 package in the vendor library of their software project
At some point, Group 1 creates a new 2.0 branch of net/smtp that breaks backwards compatibility (say, it removes an old class or method, or moves a class from one package to another). They tell users of the 1.0 version that it will be deprecated in one year.
Group 2, when they have the time, updates to net/smtp 2.0. When they drop in the new package, their compiler (or test suite, for Ruby) tells them about the incompatibility. They do have to make some manual changes, but all of the changes are in the code, in plain text, a medium with which they are quite familiar. Plus, they can often use their IDE's (or text editor's) "global-search-and-replace" function once they figure out what the fixes are.
When we try to apply this model to UML in RSA, we run into some problems. RSA supports some fairly powerful refactorings, but they seem to only work if you have write access to all of the pieces. If I rename a class in one package, RSA can rename the references, but only at the same time. It's very difficult to look at the underlying source (the XML) and figure out what's broken. To fix such a problem in the RSA editor itself means tons of clicking on things -- there is no good equivalent of "global-search-and-replace," at least not after an incomplete refactor.
They real sticking point seems to be that RSA assumes that you want to do all your editing using their GUI, but that makes certain operations prohibitively difficult.
Does anyone have examples of open-source UML projects that have overcome this problem? What strategies do they use for communicating changes?

I'm reading Bob Martin's principles of OOD, specifically the SRP text, and I understand the spirit of what it's saying pretty well, but I don't quite understand a particular phrasing, from page 2 of the link (page 150 of the book):
I paraphrase:
It is important to separate these two responsibilities into separate classes because each responsibility is an axis of change.
What exactly is meant here by "axis of change"?

I'm writing a Chrome extension that uses a content script to modify certain parts of a website. The content script worked fine until I tried to add an options page to my extension.
Right now I'm using an options.html file to save user preferences to localstorage, as you can see here:
<html>
<head><title>Options</title></head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function save_options() {
var select = document.getElementById("width");
var width = select.children[select.selectedIndex].value;
localStorage["site_width"] = width;
}
function restore_options() {
var fwidth = localStorage["site_width"];
if (!fwidth) {
return;
}
var select = document.getElementById("width");
for (var i = 0; i < select.children.length; i++) {
var child = select.children[i];
if (child.value == fwidth) {
child.selected = "true";
break;
}
}
}
</script>
<body onload="restore_options()">
Width:
<select id="width">
<option value="100%">100%</option>
<option value="90%">90%</option>
<option value="80%">80%</option>
<option value="70%">70%</option>
</select>
<br>
<button onclick="save_options()">Save</button>
</body>
</html>
I also have a background.html file to handle the communication between the content script and the localstorage:
<html>
<script type="text/javascript">
chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) {
if (request.method == "siteWidth")
sendResponse({status: localStorage["site_width"]});
else
sendResponse({});
});
</script>
</html>
Then there's the actual content script that looks like this:
var Width;
chrome.extension.sendRequest({method: "siteWidth"}, function(response) {
width = response.status;
});
None of that code actually works. It looks solid enough to me but I'm not a very experienced programmer so I might be wrong.
Could someone explain localstorage to me in layman's terms?
I'm looking for an ASCII diagram tool for producing diagrams from text. I only really need sequence and state type diagrams for now, but I'm curious as to what people would recommend? I need something which is standalone, not a web based tool that works on Linux, OSX and Windows.
Hello everybody,
I'm trying to develop something in the cloud incorporating video, text and images.
However, any hyperlinked content that appears above or below the video is unclickable, as the video takes the focus on the iPad.
This isn't a problem with Safari in general, as it works on Desktop Safari.
Thankyou,
BH
When im inserting to the database on my dev server the text goes in fine, for example "that's" is "that's" in the db.
when uploading the exact same code to production server (hosted on a reseller account at bluehost) "that's" becomes "that\'s",
im not double escaping, its exactly the same code, what could be the issue here?
Hello. I don't know if it has been asked before, couldn't find it either.
Is it possible to control the type of the input text that is rendered by an asp:TextBox? I would like to change it to <input type="date">
any suggestions or comments are welcome, thanks
In any of micro soft tools such as word,we get a feature to select text in a rectangle manner.alt + right key selection.Is there anything as such in eclipse.It will be very useful
I'm currently using the following code to output text in green to the terminal:
printf("%c[1;32mHello, world!\n", 27);
However, I want more shades of green. What's the easiest way to accomplish this?
My Auth flash messages were working earlier -- a bright green background with text in it, such as "You have successfully logged out".
However, I have made quite a few changes to the site since then, and this green background has disappeared.
What are the possible causes of this? (I've run my CSS through a validator -- so that doesn't seem to be the issue). Any other ideas?
Thanks!
Is there a right way to add empty table text? For example, if you go to the simulator and open contacts, the table is empty and displays "No Contacts". Or searching that gives "no results".
I could do this via a label positioned and hidden at run time, but is the correct approach?
Thanks for your help

$("#epFilter").keypress(function(){
query = $("#epFilter").val();
alert(query);
});
In this code, whenever I type in my text box, it always alert one character less. It doesn't catch the last character. Why?
I'm just learning to code in java. Netbeans is great but I just found there's no way to wrap text in it (or hopefully I haven't found it yet). Is there any way to do this, and if not, is there any similarly good IDE for Java with this functionality (hopefully free as well).
Thanks.
I got an fla file with nested movieclips. The "username" text box is present in a movieclip "login" which is included in another movieclip "member".
How to access the value of the textbox "username" in actionscript when a button is clicked(on(release) event ). the button is also present in the "login" movieclip
I plan to create an interactive golf score card for my website (XHTML). (Btw. thats how such a scorecard looks like: ScoreCard). So at the end one should be able to insert a score for each hole in the appropriated input field in the virtual scorecard on the website. For me it is very important that the interactive scorecard really looks the same as the original (paper-) scorecard does and so my first approach was to scan and slice the scorecard image to reach that appearance.
Here you can see the way I sliced the image:
The idea was to insert HTML text input for each score field ending up with something like this:
After I sliced the image I reconstructed it using the HTML . To do that I put the image slices as the cell background.
<table>
<tr>
<td style="background: url("slice1.jpg") width="58px" height="25px">
<input type="text"></inputText>
</td>
</tr>
...
</table>
At the first moment this worked fine (as Gimp offers quite a nice feature for this). Then the problem was that I had to create a HTML table to create the exact layout. As you can see the lower part of the layout is split up into 3 columns. The middle column is split up into several (for each hole) rows. So the left and right column have to be spanned over those rows. Ok finally that worked, but it lead to some kind of scaling problem. If I zoom in or out on the table the middle column (and only that one) is not scaled the right way. Iam not able to fix this, and so I start doubting if this is the right technique for html image virtualization. Iam really no specialist in the area of creating websites, so I would really appriciate any help on this. Maybe there is a complete other and better technique to do that, as I think it is a common job in webcreation. I couldnt find any nice examples or tuts on that.
