  • How do I define and standardize units in my 3D app?

    I'm starting to design my object graph for an OpenGL ES 1.1 on Android. What's advisable when it comes to actually drawing my triangles when it comes to controlling their size? Should I store all the vertices in units relative to each other and then multiply them by a value I pass during a draw(GL10 gl)? Would this approach have any impact when it comes time to do frustum culling?

  • Using thread inter-communication to increase my server app's IO throughput; not sure how

    My server application creates a new thread for each incoming connection. Incoming requests are serialized in a BlockingQueue. There is one worker thread taking items from the queue, produce a response and send the response through socket. I have noticed a throughput issue: Currently, worker thread is responsible of sending the response message through socket, thus severely wasting processing power and throughput. I am considering: rather than sending the response itself, why not telling network IO threads to send the response? However, when I think about thread inter-communication, I cannot yet figure out how to approach it: Worker thread will produce a response, but how will it inform the response message to IO thread? Is there a standard/best practice? Thank you.

    I'm looking for an ExecutorService implementation that can be provided with a timeout. Tasks that are submitted to the ExecutorService are interrupted if they take longer than the timeout to run. Implementing such a beast isn't such a difficult task, but I'm wondering if anybody knows of an existing implementation.

  • Accessing global variable in multithreaded Tomcat server

    I have a singleton object that I construct like thus: private static volatile KeyMapper mapper = null; public static KeyMapper getMapper() { if(mapper == null) { synchronized(Utils.class) { if(mapper == null) { mapper = new LocalMemoryMapper(); } } } return mapper; } The class KeyMapper is basically a synchronized wrapper to HashMap with only two functions, one to add a mapping and one to remove a mapping. When running in Tomcat 6.24 on my 32bit Windows machine everything works fine. However when running on a 64 bit Linux machine (CentOS 5.4 with OpenJDK 1.6.0-b09) I add one mapping and print out the size of the HashMap used by KeyMapper to verify the mapping got added (i.e. verify size = 1). Then I try to retrieve the mapping with another request and I keep getting null and when I checked the size of the HashMap it was 0. I'm confident the mapping isn't accidentally being removed since I've commented out all calls to remove (and I don't use clear or any other mutators, just get and put). The requests are going through Tomcat 6.24 (configured to use 200 threads with a minimum of 4 threads) and I passed -Xnoclassgc to the jvm to ensure the class isn't inadvertently getting garbage collected (jvm is also running in -server mode). I also added a finalize method to KeyMapper to print to stderr if it ever gets garbage collected to verify that it wasn't being garbage collected. I'm at my wits end and I can't figure out why one minute the entry in HashMap is there and the next it isn't :(

  • Automatically copy new Jar file to Tomcat project WEB-INF/lib folder

    I am developing a Tomcat app (actually it's a Red5 app, but this is effectively the same). This contains the usual /WebContent/WEB-INF/lib folder, which is where I locate the various jars it uses. Recently, I pulled a package out of my app project, and converted into a separate Jar project which was then released as open source (this resides in the same workspace). What I want, is that when I build my Tomcat app, that Eclipse automatically pulls the latest version of the Jar I have built into its /WebContent/WEB-INF/lib folder. This is the behaviour you get with .NET when you reference one project from another, and I guess this is why I was expecting to find some way of doing it. At the moment, I have to manually copy/paste the Jar across each time I build it. Of course, ideally when I build my Tomcat app it would automatically detect if the Jar project was up-to-date too, and build it if not. Any suggestions most gratefully received.

    I want to send an email with an inline image using javamail. I'm doing something like this. How do I send an image inline in the email using javamail?

  • RSA encryption/ Decryption in a client server application

    Hi guys, probably missing something very straight forward on this, but please forgive me, I'm very naive! Have a client server application where the client identifies its self with an RSA encrypted username & password. Unfortunately I'm getting a "bad padding exception: data must start with zero" when i try to decrypt with the public key on the client side. I'm fairly sure the key is correct as I have tested encrypting with public key then decrypting with private key on the client side with no problems at all. Just seems when I transfer it over the connection it messses it up somehow?! Using PrintWriter & BufferedReader on the sockets if thats of importance. EncodeBASE64 & DecodeBASE64 encode byte[] to 64base and vice versa respectively. Any ideas guys??   • How do I create a non-editable GXT ComboBox?

    I'm using GWT/GXT and trying to create a "normal" ComboBox - one that you cannot type in, but you can type a single character and it will automatically go to the first item in the list that starts with that letter. So, I don't want it READONLY, I want it so that you cannot replace the text in it with your own text (can't type characters into it). I cannot figure out how to get ComboBox or SimpleComboBox to do this. I've tried every combination of settings on it to no avail. I did see there is a GXT ListBox, but i need a component that extends from Field. Is there really no way to do this or am I missing something?

  • Creating a table with an initial element selected

    I want to create a table which displays in each row a set of data, in addition to a radio button for possible selection. This can be achieved easily by using a simple table model class which extends the DefaultTableModel and a cell renderer and editor class which implements the TableCellRenderer and TableCellEditor interfaces respectively. What I really couldn't manage to do is to make the table to display initially one of the elements (rows) initially selected. It seems straightforward but it isn't...does anybody have a clue about it?

  • Are multiply-thrown Exceptions checked or runtime?

    I have an Exception chain in which method1 throws an Exception to method2 which throws the Exception on to main. For some reason, the compiler forces me to deal with the error in method2 and marks it as an error if I don't, indicating that it's a checked Exception. But when the same Exception is thrown further down the line to main, the compiler allows me to ignore it and doesn't display any errors. The original Exception in method1 is a ParseException, which is checked. But the method has a generic throws Exception clause in the header, and the same object is thrown to method2, which has an identical throws Exception clause. When and how does this Exception lose the status of being checked / caught by the compiler?     Hi, I have a class, let's say User adnotated with @XmlRootElement, with some properties (name, surname etc). I use this class for REST operations, as application/xml. The client will POST User class so i want to keep the values in the log. Is there any method in jax-ws to prints out this object as xml?
