• Looking for a standard way to manage documents in a WPF application

  Hi! I'm writing a WPF application that uses one document at a time. Is there any standard way to implement the management of the current document? What I mean are the following functions: New document: if there are not saved changes in the current document, a dialog box opens ('Do you want to save changes to {0}?') with Yes/No/Cancel buttons. If Cancel is hit, the operation stops. Open document: same dialog box as at new document, and an Open dialog opens after Save document: if the current document hasn't been saved, a Save dialog opens Save as: you can imagine... So, is there anything standard in the .NET framework like this or do I have to manually implement it?

• How to publish to Facebook fan/business pages (not user profiles)

  I'm trying to figure out if fan/business pages are conceptually similar to regular user pages. My end goal is to publish events from a third-party Web site (new content, announcements, etc.) into the FB page that promotes the third-party site. I'm not sure where to start exactly. Been looking at the .NET Facebook SDK, and it seems focused on FB apps and authentication. Not sure where I should be looking. Help is appreciated!

• Can I use breakpoints (as while debugging) while 'unit testing' ?

  Hello, I'm walking through the FrontStore series tutorial on TDD in MVC (Part 3 by Rob Conery/ASP.NET). The test I'm concerned with is the CatalogRepository_Each_Category_Contains_5_Products(). Until I get to that test, everything was working fine. Now, I've gone through every line that makes this test (including the test itself, the TestCatalogRepository, ...). I've also compared my code to that of Rob, but the test keeps failing. I also checked the source code from CodePlex, that test was not there. Now, I wonder if I can put a break point somewhere to check the local values as the test is being executed? If not, something similar? Thanks for helping.

• How to track when my application has unexpectedly shut down?

  I'm writing an application whose purpose involves a lot of logging of different events. Among those I would also like to have an event that the application was shut down - even if unexpectedly like because of a power loss. Naturally, when the power goes out I don't get a chance to write anything anywhere. So my idea was to continuously write a timestamp in some known location (say, once per minute), and when the application was next run, it could determine the approximate time of the unexpected shutdown. A precision of 1 minute would be acceptable for me. However I'm worried that caching at the OS and disk level might interfere with this approach. Is there a better way or if not - how to make sure that the data I just wrote is REALLY written out to the physical medium? Added: Oh, almost forgot the buzzword line: Windows XP and above; .NET 3.5; C#.

  I'm used to MySQL and PHPMyAdmin - I had to switch over to MSSQL for an ASP.net project, and I'm having tons of trouble. I'm using the express version of SQL 2008, with SQL Server Management Studio. The following are 2 questions I've been struggling with for a while: 1) How do I export the DB schema for the database? The table structure, etc.? 2) How do I export all the data in the database? Ideally I'd like to have a .sql file that can be run wherever I need the schema or data duplicated, for example a co-worker's computer for a shared project, or online when the project is being hosted.   I am making asp.net website. In that there is a link button (named Landline number).Below that there are three textboxes. And after that there is one horizontal line. Now at a first time only link button and horizontal will be visible, and textboxes which is bellowed to link button will not be visible. Now if user will click on the link button then textboxes which is bellowed to link button will be visible. Then horizontal line which is at the first time bellowed to the link button should be adjust to its location and should go after textboxes. And if user clicks to link button again then textboxes should be visible false. And horizontal line should be displayed its original position that is bellowed to the link button. Of course I am able to do with visibility of textboxes but I can not understand how to change the position of the horizontal line dynamically?

  I mean PHP scripts on Apache are oriented for many users to use tham at the same time. So will 1000 requests which came at the (relativly) same time be fully responsed faster than C# .Net programm perfoming algorithm 1000 times in while loop? So we input same data, we perform same algorithm, which is written in a wary same way (respecting language diferencis ofcourse), outputing same data (lat us say saving it to file for tham to be relativly equal) Who will be faster on some 1000 times of performing O(NN) algorithm, in which case (if it is possible) one will owerrun another?

• form data posted using linq-to-sql not showing until I refresh the page

  I have an asp.net mvc app with a form. When you submit the form, it adds records to the sql database with linq-to-sql. After adding the records, the controller displays the form again, and should show those new values on the form. But, when it displays the form, the values are blank, until you refresh the page. While tracing through the code, I can see the records being added to the database when they are submitted, but the view doesnt display them, unless I refresh. The view is not the problem, it just displays the view model, which is missing the new records immediately after the post. I know this is kind of vague, but wasnt sure what parts of code to include here. Could this have something to do with data context life cycle? Basically, there is a data context created when the form is posted, then a different data context is created in the method that displays the form. Any suggestions on what might be causing this?

  All. I'm trying to use my old dll file on .net project. So I converted this unmanaged COM object to managed one by using [tlbimp.exe] util from Windows SDK. However, one method returns a Object as a return value, but whenever I try to use it, my program generates an error. The weird thing is below: //Object[] item = s.GetObjects(); //this generates an type error Object item = s.GetObjects(); //this works okay System.WriteLine(items); //prints System.Object[] rather than System.Object. It seems like it returns a pointer which contains an object array. Isn't it ? Please anyone tell me how to handle this, and is there any documentation for this issue ?

  I have read a lot of approaches regarding placement of the footer in a webpage with CSS. Between others i found solutions, within SO too. The problem is (i think) that most of them, do not apply in asp pages. So the question is how can i place the footer with pure CSS in Asp pages? Before you post your answer, you have to take in mind the following. I use a master page (If this one has anything to do) The webpage contains the form element, which i believe destroys the placing of the footer in the bottom of the webpage. <form name="aspnetForm" method="post" action="Default.aspx" id="aspnetForm"> So, you may start down-voting, but i think a different approach exists regarding footer placement with CSS in Asp.Net pages

  Hi, I'm starting to use NHiberante as a dataaccess tier. I'm used to work with the repository model as a business model. This means, my domain model (not really a tier), my asp.net application tier, my repository tier which finally uses my dataaccess tier. But with what I've learned by now (on NHibernate) I know that many logic is done within an ISession so I was wondering if NHibernate could be used within the repository tier. Or perhaps there are even better ways to use NHibernate. Does anyone know where I could find a propriate example of how to use NHibernate in an webapplication? Cheers, M.

I want that the messages will be saved/copied to the "send messages" folder, after my program has sent them. How can I realize that.   I need to design and I'm looking in to using WCF to accomplish this. Basically here is how I have it: Server process: Generate list of files to transfer across multiple FTP/SFTP sites in to a queue. Client(s): Talk to server to get files to transfer. Transfer the files acquired. All the data necessary to transfer the files will be present. Once transferred successfully, notify the server to remove it from the queue. Also, make sure no other client is trying to perform the transfer. Are there are any good articles/design patterns to use? I think it sounds like a good candidate for WCF since ideally it would be load balanced against a few machines. Development will be in C#/.NET 3.5.

  Hi guys, I'm just preparing the release of a library site builded in asp.net: http://213.133.103.5/gramma_prod/Site/Index.aspx All it's working great on FF and Chrome but on IE the asp button click event is not working. Please notice the most important buttons: "Adauga in cos" (Add to basket)... I'm just struggling to find out the problem... I've checked the forms to not have nested ones but they seems ok. Could you provide any other ideea? ps: I did not post any code because this problem occurs on all pages... Thanks in advance. • Searching for URL's Relative to Site Root in Javascript Source

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

• c# project cannot find c++ .dll?

  I have a working c++ dll that works in one c# project that I am calling via the interop service. I have created another c# project and am trying to call the same .dll but keep getting a generic error message stating that the .dll cannot be found, both project are .net 2.0. What folder, and where do I specify in the project, should I put the .dll file in so that the project can find it? Think of it as a reminder for me... In the previous project I did not have a reference to it, I just had it in the /bin folder and doing the same thing for this project does not work. Thanks R.

• Why can I not have two SocketServers bound to two different ports in the same application?

  I am using .Net 3.5 and Windows XP not sure if any more information is needed. I have an application that creates a socket, binds to a port and starts listening. A client comes and connects and then disconnects no problem. It can then reconnect no problem. If I have to sockets each listening on a different (e.g. 50 000 and 55 000) then it will accept the connection but it will not allow a reconnect. I will post source code if needed but I am assuming that it is just something simple that I am not catching.

  Here is the situation dealing with a vb.net website, I have students who will be enrolled into a course. The student grid view has many columns like client_no, student_name, date_of_birth, address, etc. There are over 100000 students so I will need to filter the student grid view to find the correct student to enroll in the course. Once they are found, the user selects them and somehow moves them to the enrolled grid view. If a student drops out then they would be removed from the enrolled grid view. It needs to remain running and have access the desktop that the UAC dialog windows open on and interact with that desktop using keyboard and mouse events. It's sort of like a VNC program. Imagine you are running a VNC program and a UAC window pops up, you want your VNC program to still be able to control the desktop with the UAC window in it so that the user can move the mouse and click the OK button on the UAC dialog.   In .NET 3.5 List< gains a ForEach method. I notice this does not exist on IList< or IEnumerable< what was the thinking here? Is there another way to do this? Nice and simple short way to do this? I ask because I was at a talk where the speaker said always use the more general interfaces. But why would I use IList< as a return type if I want to be able to turn around and use ForEach? Then I would just end up casting it back to a List<.

  Hi, I have an ASP.NET 2.0 webapp (with C#). I wanted to add a button which, when clicked would highlight selected text. By 'highlight', I mean change the CSS properties of the text so that it can stand out. I think this can be done with some clientside JavaScript. I know that you can assign a Javascript function to the onclick event of an HTML input button, but since I'm not very proficient at JS the function itself I have no idea how to write...
