• Making Eclipse behave like Visual Studio

  I'm doing some Android dev, and I much prefer Visual Studio, but I'll have to use Eclipse for this. Has anyone made a tool that switches Eclipse to look and behave more like visual studio? I mainly can't stand its clippyesqe suggestions on how I should program (Yes, I know I have not yet used that private field! Thanks Eclipse!), or its incredibly lousy intellisense. For example, in eclipse, if I don't type "this" first, its intellisense won't realize I want to look for locally scoped members. Also, the TAB to complete VS convention is drilled into my head, and Eclipse is ENTER to complete, I could switch everything by hand but that would take hours, and I was hoping someone had some sort of theme or something that has already done it :)

  When I try to use layout_above to position a view above another view, it can't find the ID if it's not in the same XML file. I'm adding my XML files at run time but I still want to be able to position them relative to eachother. Any suggestions?

• JFreeChart Ugly Rounding Error?

  Using series.add(180, 1); produces a perfectly valid chart like this (little red dot at the bottom with some PolarItemRenderer Mods!) but using series.add(3000/(6000/360), 1); produces this beast: I assume it's because somewhere, 6000/360 = 16.6... is getting rounded? How can I stop this happening? Thanks :)

• Weird output of Throwable getMessage()

  Hi I have below pseudo code with throws an exception like this throw new MyException("Bad thing happened","com.stuff.errorCode"); where MyException extends Exception class. So the problem is when I try to get the message from MyException class by calling myEx.getMessage() it returns ???en_US.Bad thing happened??? instead of my original message i.e. Bad thing happened I have checked that MyException class doesn't overrides Throwable class's getMessage() behavior. Below is the how the call passes from MyException.getMessage() to Throwable.getMessage() public MyException(String msg, String sErrorCode){ super(msg); this.sErrorCode = sErrorCode; this.iSeverity = 0; } which then calls public Exception(String message) { super(message); } and finally public Throwable(String message) { fillInStackTrace(); detailMessage = message; } when I do a getMessage on myexception it calls Throwable's getMessage as below public String getMessage() { return detailMessage; } So ideally it should return the original message as I set when throwing the exception. What's the ???en_US thing ?

• Is dependency injection only for service type objects and singletons? (and NOT for gui?)

  I'm currently experimenting with the Google's guice inversion of control container. I previously had singletons for just about any service (database, active directory) my application used. Now I refactored the code: all the dependencies are given as parameters to constructors. So far, so good. Now the hardest part is with the graphical user interface. I face this problem: I have a table (JTable) of products wrapped in an ProductFrame. I give the dependencies as parameters (EditProductDialog). @Inject public ProductFrame(EditProductDialog editProductDialog) { // ... } // ... @Inject public EditProductDialog(DBProductController productController, Product product) { // ... } The problem is that guice can't know what Product I have selected in the table, so it can't know what to inject in the EditProductDialog. Dependency Injection is pretty viral (if I modify one class to use dependency injection I also need to modify all the other classes it interacts with) so my question is should I directly instantiate EditProductDialog? But then I would have to pass manually the DBProductController to the EditProductDialog and I will also need to pass it to the ProductFrame and all this boils down to not using dependency injection at all. Or is my design flawed and because of that I can't really adapt the project to dependecy injection? Give me some examples of how you used dependency injection with the graphical user interface. All the examples found on the Internet are really simple examples where you use some services (mostly databases) with dependency injection.

  I have JPanel wrapped in JScrollPane and I want the rectangle to be drawn always on the same position = moving with scrollbars wont affect the visibility of the rectangle. I tried following code: public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { g.setColor(Color.red); g.drawRect(50, (int)getVisibleRect().getY(), 20 , 20); } but it only repaints the rectangle when size of whole JPanel is changed.

• Refreshing a JPA result list which is bound with a jTable

  First off, I hage to write this on my mobile. But I'll try to format it properly. In Netbeans I created a jTable and bound it's values to a JPA result set. This works great. The qery contains a param which i set in the pre-create box of the "query result" component. So just before netbeans creates the query result i write this: myQuery.setParameter("year", "1997"); This works fine. Now, I have an event handler which is supposed to change the param and display the new values in the table. So I do this: myQuery.setParameter("year", "2005"); myResultList.clear(); myResultList.addAll(myQuery.getResultList()); jTable1.updateUI(); This works, but it feels wrong to me. Note: the result set is bound to the table. So I was hoping there was something like this: myQuery.setParameter("year", "2005"); myResultList.refresh(); Is there something like this?

• SurfaceView drawn on top of other elements after coming back from specific activity

  I have an activity with video preview displayed via SurfaceView and other views positioned over it. The problem is when user navigates to Settings activity (code below) and comes back then the surfaceview is drawn on top of everything else. This does not happen when user goes to another activity I have, neither when user navigates outside of app eg. to task manager. Now, you see in code below that I have setContentVIew() call wrapped in conditionals so it is not called every time when onStart() is executed. If its not wrapped in if statements then all works fine, but its causing loosing lots of memory (5MB+) each time onStart() is called. There are a lots of approximation algorithms out there, but I don't have time nor will to analyze them and code them myself.   I would like to intercept outgoing calls and pass them to a VOIP application. I see that the Google Voice application has a feature for displaying a question before each call is actually initiated. It provides the user with the choice: Initiate call via Google Voice Initiate call via standard call I would like a way to do something similar with my application (so that not all calls have to be routed through it). At the moment, I can intercept CALL events via a BroadcastReceiver, however, these are not allowed to open dialogs (thus making it possible to display the choice). What is the best way of achieving this goal?

• Using Apache Velocity with StringBuilders/CharSequences

  We are using Apache Velocity for dynamic templates. At the moment Velocity has following methods for evaluation/replacing: public static boolean evaluate(Context context, Writer writer, String logTag, Reader reader) public static boolean evaluate(Context context, Writer out, String logTag, String instring) We use these methods by providing StringWriter to write evaluation results. Our incoming data is coming in StringBuilder format so we use StringBuilder.toString and feed it as instring. The problem is that our templates are fairly large (can be megabytes, tens of Ms on rare cases), replacements occur very frequently and each replacement operation triples the amount of required memory (incoming data + StringBuilder.toString() which creates a new copy + outgoing data). I was wondering if there is a way to improve this. E.g. if I could find a way to provide a Reader and Writer on top of same StringBuilder instance that only uses extra memory for in/out differences, would that be a good approach? Has anybody done anything similar and could share any source for such a class? Or maybe there any better solutions to given problem?

When Check Box is selected display Combo Box, which will have few items for example ("1","2") 3. When 1 is selected from Combo Box then make 1 Text Field visible 4. When 2 is selected from Combo Box then make 2 Text Field's visible What I am able to do is when Check Box is clicked, it displays the Combo Box with the items. I am not able provide functionality to the items in the Combo Box, such as when Item1 is clicked then make 1 Text Field visible. Please help needed. • How can I store large amount of data from a database to XML (memory problem)?

  First, I had a problem with getting the data from the Database, it took too much memory and failed. I've set -Xmx1500M and I'm using scrolling ResultSet so that was taken care of. Now I need to make an XML from the data, but I can't put it in one file. At the moment, I'm doing it like this: while(rs.next()){ i++; xmlStringBuilder.append("\n\t<row>"); xmlStringBuilder.append("\n\t\t<ID>" + Util.transformToHTML(rs.getInt("id")) + "</ID>"); xmlStringBuilder.append("\n\t\t<JED_ID>" + Util.transformToHTML(rs.getInt("jed_id")) + "</JED_ID>"); xmlStringBuilder.append("\n\t\t<IME_PJ>" + Util.transformToHTML(rs.getString("ime_pj")) + "</IME_PJ>"); //etc. xmlStringBuilder.append("\n\t</row>"); if (i%100000 == 0){ //stores the data to a file with the name i.xml storeKBR(xmlStringBuilder.toString(),i); xmlStringBuilder= null; xmlStringBuilder= new StringBuilder(); } and it works; I get 12 100 MB files. Now, what I'd like to do is to do is have all that data in one file (which I then compress) but if just remove the if part, I go out of memory. I thought about trying to write to a file, closing it, then opening, but that wouldn't get me much since I'd have to load the file to memory when I open it. P.S. If there's a better way to release the Builder, do let me know :)

• I would like to useJava 7's FileVisitor to walk up a tree

  I have looked and searched for some guidance on how to start at a low point in a path and walk up (or 'back'), until I find a folder with the name I am searching for. The FileVisitor class looks like it ought to be able to help me, but it only seems to work from head to toe. Is there something that someone could point me to?   basically i have read some samples, but all are self contained in one servlet. such as: use doGet to establish the long polling connection, and then use doPost to trigger the event to notify all suspended connections. Here is my question: I have other web actions programming in spring mvc, in the spring mvc controller a user post a message via /message/post, how can I make this action to trigger the atmosphere handler to notify the suspended connections?
