  • Nested multithread operations tracing

    - by Sinix
I've a code alike void ExecuteTraced(Action a, string message) { TraceOpStart(message); a(); TraceOpEnd(message); } The callback (a) could call ExecuteTraced again, and, in some cases, asynchronously (via ThreadPool, BeginInvoke, PLINQ etc, so I've no ability to explicitly mark operation scope). I want to trace all operation nested (even if they perform asynchronously). So, I need the ability to get last traced operation inside logical call context (there may be a lot of concurrent threads, so it's impossible to use lastTraced static field). There're CallContext.LogicalGetData and CallContext.LogicalSetData, but unfortunately, LogicalCallContext propagates changes back to the parent context as EndInvoke() called. Even worse, this may occure at any moment if EndInvoke() was called async. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/883486/endinvoke-changes-current-callcontext-why Also, there is Trace.CorrelationManager, but it based on CallContext and have all the same troubles. There's a workaround: use the CallContext.HostContext property which does not propagates back as async operation ended. Also, it does'nt clone, so the value should be immutable - not a problem. Though, it's used by HttpContext and so, workaround is not usable in Asp.Net apps. The only way I see is to wrap HostContext (if not mine) or entire LogicalCallContext into dynamic and dispatch all calls beside last traced operation. Help, please!

  • Flash vs. Ajax Abilities

    - by Alex
Hey everyone. I want to develop an application that does a bunch of cool stuff. The first thing that I need in it is to get information about the page a person is browsing. With that said, I need for example to know how long a user stayed in a page and where was the scrollbar. While getting that data, It's all saved to a database. The thing is, I prefer doing that in Flash [although I have no experience in it] over Ajax since I want to hide the code - which as far as I know not possible in Javascript/Ajax. So, can I do all that in Flash? - Read the content of the page, get the status of the scroll bar.. Plus, I then need to go threw the gathered information that is saved in the database. Since there could be many calculations i thought C++ .Net is better than PHP [which I know better]. Is that all possible or am I just crazy? :) Thanks ahead.

  • SQL Cache Dependency not working with Stored Procedure

    - by pjacko
Hello, I can't get SqlCacheDependency to work with a simple stored proc (SQL Server 2008): create proc dbo.spGetPeteTest as set ANSI_NULLS ON set ANSI_PADDING ON set ANSI_WARNINGS ON set CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL ON set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON set NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT OFF set ARITHABORT ON select Id, Artist, Album from dbo.PeteTest And here's my ASP.NET code (3.5 framework): -- global.asax protected void Application_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) { string connectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MyConn"].ConnectionString; System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDependency.Start(connectionString); } -- Code-Behind private DataTable GetAlbums() { string connectionString = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["UnigoConnection"].ConnectionString; DataTable dtAlbums = new DataTable(); using (SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(connectionString)) { // Works using select statement, but NOT SP with same text //SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand( // "select Id, Artist, Album from dbo.PeteTest", connection); SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(); command.Connection = connection; command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; command.CommandText = "dbo.spGetPeteTest"; System.Web.Caching.SqlCacheDependency new_dependency = new System.Web.Caching.SqlCacheDependency(command); SqlDataAdapter DA1 = new SqlDataAdapter(); DA1.SelectCommand = command; DataSet DS1 = new DataSet(); DA1.Fill(DS1); dtAlbums = DS1.Tables[0]; Cache.Insert("Albums", dtAlbums, new_dependency); } return dtAlbums; } Anyone have any luck with getting this to work with SPs? Thanks!

  • invalid viewstate error - OnPreRender

    - by dan
I'm getting 100+ errors per day on my website with System.Web.HttpException: Invalid viewstate. The website is asp.net 3.5 running on iis6 , not running in a web-garden/web-farm , single server. Here are a few sample errors. Machine: ML Framework Version: 2.0.50727.3603 Assembly Version: 6.5.3664.33889 Source: http://www.domain.com/WebResource.axd?d=z5VmXXoSLLpQHoPictureAlert Exception: System.Web.HttpException: Invalid viewstate. at System.Web.UI.Page.DecryptStringWithIV(String s, IVType ivType) at System.Web.Handlers.AssemblyResourceLoader.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) Machine: MLFramework Version: 2.0.50727.3603 Assembly Version: 6.5.3664.33889 Source: http://www.mydomain.com/ScriptResource.axd?d=SE0Ej7OlEAx91j2Cjv_6KkRPplqT-5wB4M7CZPdGdGn3LahLwqlRPApUcdxBsbFXYHZ91Q76FHAHWgHs8SmOC4zemr7 siym0QY0rF3XtJTu%3C/a%3E%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%20%3Ca%20id= Exception: System.Web.HttpException: Invalid viewstate. at System.Web.UI.Page.DecryptStringWithIV(String s, IVType ivType) at System.Web.UI.Page.DecryptString(String s) at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.DecryptParameter(NameValueCollection queryString) at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.ProcessRequestInternal(HttpResponse response, NameValueCollection queryString, VirtualFileReader fileReader) at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) at System.Web.HttpApplication.CallHandlerExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() at System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) i already tried wraping all inline javascript with //<![CDATA[ //]]> i already set enableViewStateMac to false. From looking at all the errors guessing out of the "d" paramter it seems to focus on a single usercontrol on my website. in this control i change the visiblity of div's + text in the usercontrol OnPreRender function. protected override void OnPreRender(EventArgs e) { base.OnPreRender(e); PreparePage(); } Can the errors be related to the usercontrol behavioral? thanks!

  • mono --aot with MinGW: unknown pseudo-op: `.local'

    - by Jared Updike
Can I user mono's AOT feature to natively "pre-compile" .NET DLLs (and or EXEs) to make them harder to reverse engineer? If so, how do I get mono/AOT working in Windows 7? (I'm running x64 but the app is targeting x86 explicitly.) I just installed Mono 2.6.3 and MinGW 5.1.6 and I'm trying to AOT compile an exe (or a dll, it doesn't matter). • What off-the-shelf licensing system will meet my needs?

    - by Anders Pedersen
I'm looking for an off-the-shelf license system for desktop software. After some research on the net -- and of course here on StackOverflow -- I haven't found one the suits our needs. I have a couple of must-have features and some would-be-nice features: Must have: Encrypted unlock key Possibility to automate the unlock key generation on my website User info in key so that I can show name and company in an about box and perhaps in reports Nice to have: License managing tools Online activation Nice upgrade possibilities to a version with concurrent license model and subscription model I have looked at Manco, but I find them difficult to work with and the documentation is minimal. Further, I couldn't get the name in the key. Also, the automatic generation of a key on my website has to be done with an application web service, but I would rather program against a DLL. Next I looked at xheo. It is easier to use and the documentation is better, but the price is substantially higher and here you can only get the user name in the license file that you then have to provide together with the unlock key. Could anyone share their experiences on what you are using and how it is working for you?

  • Workflow Foundation (WF) -- Why does setting a DependencyProperty to a COM object using SetValue() t

    - by stakx
Assume that I have a .NET Workflow Foundation (WF) SequenceActivity class with the following property: public IWorkspace Workspace { get; set; } // ^^^^^^^^^^ // important: this is a COM interface type! public static DependencyProperty WorkspaceProperty = DependencyProperty.Register( "Workspace", typeof(IWorkspace), typeof(FoobarActivity)); // <-- this activity class This activity executes some code that sets both of the above like this: this.Workspace = ...; // exact code not relevant; property set to a COM object SetValue(WorkspaceProperty, this.Workspace); The last line (which makes the call to SetValue) results in an ArgumentException for the second parameter (having the value of this.Workspace): Type […].IWorkspace of dependency property Workspace does not match the value's type System.__ComObject.                                           (translated from German, the English exception text might differ slightly) As soon as I register the dependency property with typeof(object) instead of typeof(IWorkspace) as the second parameter, the code executes just fine. However, that would result in the possibility to assign just about any value to the dependency property, and I do not want that. It seems to me that WF dependency properties don't work for COM interop objects.Does anyone have a solution to this?

  • Crystal Reports Failed Database Login

    - by Marlon
Hello, After spending a good 3 to 4 hours on google trying to find any solution to my problem I haven't had much luck. Basically, we use crystal reports for our .NET applications with a sql server back end, we have many clients each with their own server and so our reports need to have their connections dynamically set. Up until a week ago this worked fine. However a few days ago a client reported they were getting a database login prompt for a report (only one report, the rest worked fine). We were quite stumped but we managed to reproduce it on a netbook which didn't have visual studio or sql server installed. In the end the dev decided to reproduce the report in the hope it was just an oddity in that particular report. Unfortunately a new client today also experienced the same problem, but this time for every crystal report they had - and also they worked on the netbook, so we are really quite lost here. Below is a screenshot of what our clients get presented with - and here is the code that I use to set the connection information in the report cI.ServerName = (string)builder["Data Source"]; cI.DatabaseName = (string)builder["Initial Catalog"]; cI.UserID = (string)builder["User ID"]; cI.Password = (string)builder["Password"]; foreach (IConnectionInfo info in cryRpt.DataSourceConnections) { info.SetConnection(cI.ServerName, cI.DatabaseName, cI.UserID, cI.Password); } foreach (ReportDocument sub in cryRpt.Subreports) { foreach (IConnectionInfo info in sub.DataSourceConnections) { info.SetConnection(cI.ServerName, cI.DatabaseName, cI.UserID, cI.Password); } } As always, any help much appreciated.

  • What is the correct way to pass an object to WebApi RC controller

    - by Diver Dan
I have a webapi project running rc I have a very basic controlller like [System.Web.Http.HttpPost] public void Update(Business business) { //if (business.Id == Guid.Empty) //{ // throw new HttpResponseException("Business ID not provided", HttpStatusCode.BadRequest); //} _repository.Update(business); //if (!isUpdated) //{ // throw new HttpResponseException("Business not found", HttpStatusCode.NotFound); //} } I found an example using HttpClient however it doesnt work with rc using (var client = new HttpClient()) { try { string url = string.Format("{0}{1}", ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ApiBaseUrl"].ToString(),apiMethod); HttpRequestMessage request = new HttpRequestMessage(); MediaTypeFormatter[] formatter = new MediaTypeFormatter[] { new JsonMediaTypeFormatter() }; var content = request.CreateContent<Business>( business, MediaTypeHeaderValue.Parse("application/json"), formatter, new FormatterSelector()); HttpResponseMessage response = client.PostAsync(url, content).Result; return response.Content.ToString(); } catch (Exception ex) { return null; } } I get an error Method not found: 'Void System.Net.Http.Headers.HttpHeaders.AddWithoutValidation(System.String, System.String)'. Passing the data from jquery is a piece of cake however I need call the api from code behind vs client side. Can someone point me in the right direction for calling the webapi? Thank you

  • Help with Custom Workflow that monitors an objects state

    - by zSysop
I need to write a workflow that monitors the status of an object. (It could wait for days or hours for a state to change) I have the following states for the object (lets call it an Issue object): 1) Created 2) Unowned 3) Owned 4) UnAssigned 4) Assigned 6) In Progress 7) Signed Off 8) Closed I would also need to take some action on an object if the object was within a certain state for a defined period (not really sure on how this can be accomplished either). The object's owner/assignee can change at any point (i.e. Go from In Progress to UnOwned) so i am guessing that a state machine diagram is what i would need to use. If my thinking is incorrect then please let me know. My application is written in c# .net 3.5. I was thinking about having a service method called CreateIssue that would insert the ticket into the db and then begin an instance of a workflow (with the object or an id of the object as parameters). I wasn't sure of how the workflow would then know when a particular object has been updated, or if the object's state has changed. I've done some really simple "hello world" type of apps with windows workflow foundation 3.5 but have not yet grasped how to do go about implementing something like this. Any direction on this will be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

  • How to avoid an HttpException due to timeout

    - by Dan
I'm working on a website powered by .NET asp/C# code. The clients require that sessions have a 25 minute timeout. However, sometimes the site is used, and a user stays connected for long periods of time (longer than 25 mins). Session_End is triggered: protected void Session_End(Object sender, EventArgs e) { Hashtable trackingInformaiton = (Hashtable)Application["trackingInformation"]; trackingInformaiton.Remove(Session["trackingID"]); } The user returns some time later, but when they interact with the website, they get an error, and we get this email notification: User: Unauthenticated User Error: System.Web.HttpException Description: Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request... The telling part of the stack trace is System.Web.UI.Control.AddedControl. Apparently, the server has thrown away the session data, and is sending new data, but the client is trying to deal with old data. Hence the error that "the control tree into which viewstate is being loaded [doesn't] match the control tree that was used to save the viewstate during the prevoius request." So here's the question. How can I force instruct the user's browser to redirect to a "you're logged out" screen when the connection times out? (Is it something I should add to the Session_End method?)

  • Dynamic controls not creating with RSS reader function

    - by TuxMeister
Hello, I am working on a test project for an RSS reader. I am using Chilkat's module for .NET 3.5. What I am trying to do is this: For each item in the RSS feed, I want to dynamically create some controls (labels) that contain stuff like the title, the link and the publication date. The problem is that only the first control comes up "rssTitle", but not the rest and it's definitely not creating the rest, nor cycling through the RSS items. Any ideas where I'm wrong in my code? Imports Chilkat Public Class Form1 Dim rss As New Chilkat.Rss Dim success As Boolean Dim rssTitle As New Label Dim rssLink As New Label Dim rssPubDate As New Label Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click success = rss.DownloadRss("http://www.engadget.com/rss.xml") If success <> True Then MessageBox.Show(rss.LastErrorText) Exit Sub End If Dim rssChannel As Chilkat.Rss rssChannel = rss.GetChannel(0) If rssChannel Is Nothing Then MessageBox.Show("No channel found.") Exit Sub End If Dim numItems As Long numItems = rssChannel.NumItems Dim i As Long For i = 0 To numItems - 1 Dim rssItem As Chilkat.Rss rssItem = rssChannel.GetItem(i) Me.Controls.Add(rssTitle) With rssTitle .Name = "rssTitle" & Me.Controls.Count.ToString + 1 .Text = "Title: " & rssItem.GetString("title") .Left = 12 .Top = 12 End With Me.Controls.Add(rssLink) With rssLink .Name = "rssLink" & Me.Controls.Count.ToString + 1 .Text = "Link: " & rssItem.GetString("link") .Left = 12 .Top = 12 End With Me.Controls.Add(rssPubDate) With rssPubDate .Name = "rssPubDate" & Me.Controls.Count.ToString + 1 .Text = "Pub date: " & rssItem.GetString("pubDate") .Left = 12 .Top = 12 End With Next End Sub End Class I'm grateful for any help. Thanks!

  • Time to start returning IQueryable<T> instead of IList<T> to my Web UI / Web API Layer?

    - by JohnnyO
I've got a multi-layer application that starts with the repository pattern for all data access and it returns IQueryable to the Services layer. The Services layer, which includes all of the business logic, returns IList to the Controllers (note: I'm using ASP.NET MVC for the UI layer). The benefit of returning IQueryable in the data access layer is that it allows my repositories to be extremely simple and the database queries to be deferred. However, I'm triggering the database queries in my services layer so that my unit tests is more reliable and I don't give flexibility to the Controllers to reshape my queries. However, I've recently encountered several situations where deferring the execution of queries down to the Controllers would have been significantly more performant because the Controllers had to do some projections on the data that was UI specific. Additionally, with the emergence of things like oData, I was starting to wonder if end points (e.g. web UI or web apis) should be working directly with IQueryable. What are your thoughts? Is it time to start returning IQueryable from the services layer to the UI layer? Or stick with IList? This thread here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/718624/to-return-iqueryablet-or-not-return-iqueryablet seems to vouch for returning IList to the UI layers, but I was wondering if things are changing because of new emerging technologies and techniques.

  • Spell checker software

    - by Naren
Hello Guys, I have been assigned a task to find a decent spell checker (UK English) preferably the free one for a project that we are doing. I have looked at Google AJAX API for this. The project contains some young person's (kids less than 18 years old) data which shouldn't allow exposing or storing outside the application boundaries. Google logs the data for research purpose that means Google owns the data whatever we send over the wire through Google API. Is this right? I fired an email to Google regarding the privacy of data and storage but they haven't come back. If you have some knowledge regarding this please share with me. At this point our servers might not have access to external entities that means we might not be able to use Web API for this over the wire. But it may change in the future. That means I have to find out some spell checker alternatives that can sit in our environment and do the job or an external APIs. Would you mind share your findings and knowledge in this regard. I would prefer free services but never know if you have some cracking spell checker for a few quid’s then I don't mind recommending to the project board. Technology using ASP.NET 3.5/4.0, MVC, jQuery, SQL Sever 2008 etc Cheers, Naren

  • Web.Routing for the site root or homepage

    - by Aquinas
I am doing some work with Web.Routing, using it to have friendly urls and nice Rest like interfaces to a site that is essentially rendered by a single IHttpHandler. There are no webforms, the handler generates all the html/json and writes it as part of process request. This works well for things like /Sites/Accounting for example, but I can't get it to work for the site root, i.e. '/'. I have tried registering a route with an empty string, with 'default.aspx' (which is the empty aspx file I keep in my root folder to play nice with cassini and iis). I set RouteExistingFiles to false explicitly, but whatever I do when hitting the root url it still opens default.axpx, which has no code it inherits from, and contains a simple h1 tag to show that I've hit it. I don't want to change the default file to redirect to a desired route, I just want the equivalent of a 'default' route that is applied when no other routes are found, similar to MVC. For reference, the previous version of the site didn't use Web.Routing, but had a handler referenced in the web.config that was perfectly capable of intercepting requests for the root or default.aspx. Specs: ASP.NET 3.5sp1, C#, no webforms, MVC or openrasta. Plain old IHttpHandlers.

  • How does MatchEvaluator works? ( C# regex replace)

    - by Marin Doric
    This is the input string 23x * y34x2. I want to insert " * " (star surrounded by whitespaces) after every number followed by letter, and after every letter followed by number. So my input string would look like this: 23 * x * y * 34 * x * 2. This is the regex that does the job: @"\d(?=[a-z])|a-z". This is the function that I wrote that inserts the " * ". Regex reg = new Regex(@"\d(?=[a-z])|[a-z](?=\d)"); MatchCollection matchC; matchC = reg.Matches(input); int ii = 1; foreach (Match element in matchC)//foreach match I will find the index of that match { input = input.Insert(element.Index + ii, " * ");//since I' am inserting " * " ( 3 characters ) ii += 3; //I must increment index by 3 } return input; //return modified input My question how to do same job using .net MatchEvaluator? I'am new to regex and don't understand good replacing with MatchEvaluator. This is the code that I tried to wrote: Regex reg = new Regex(@"\d(?=[a-z])|[a-z](?=\d)"); MatchEvaluator matchEval = new MatchEvaluator(ReplaceStar); input = reg.Replace(input, matchEval); return input; } public string ReplaceStar( Match match ) { //return What?? }

  • What are some techniques to monitor multiple instances of a piece of software?

    - by Geo Ego
I have a piece of self-serve kiosk software that will be running at multiple sites. I'd like to monitor their status remotely. The kiosk application itself is pretty much finished. I am now in the process of creating a piece of software that will monitor all of the kiosks from a central location so that the customer can view particular details remotely (for instance, how many bills are in the acceptor's cash cartridge, what customer is currently logged in, etc.). Because I am in such an early stage of development, my options are quite open. I understand that I'm not giving very many qualifications, but I'd like to try to get a good variety of potential solutions. Some details: Kiosk software is a VB6 app running on Windows Embedded Monitoring software will be run on a modern desktop version of Windows (either XP, Vista, or 7) Database is SQL Server 2008 My initial idea was to develop a .NET app that would simply report the last database transaction for each kiosk at a set interval (say every second or so) but I'd really like for the kiosk software to report its status directly. I'm not exactly sure where to begin in terms of what modifications may need to be made to the kiosk software, and what the monitoring software will require. Links to articles on these topics would be most welcome.

  • Change CulturalInfo after button click

    - by Bart
i have multilingual asp.net site. there is masterpage and default.aspx in masterpage i put two buttons one to click when i want to change the language to english, second for polish. I want to change the language after click on these buttons (and all changes should appear automatically on the page) here is a code for both: protected void EnglishButton_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e) { string selectedLanguage = "en-US"; //Sets the cookie that is to be used by InitializeCulture() in content page HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie("CultureInfo"); cookie.Value = selectedLanguage; Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); Server.Transfer(Request.Path); } protected void PolishButton_Click(object sender, ImageClickEventArgs e) { string selectedLanguage = "pl-PL"; //Sets the cookie that is to be used by InitializeCulture() in content page HttpCookie cookie = new HttpCookie("CultureInfo"); cookie.Value = selectedLanguage; Response.Cookies.Add(cookie); Server.Transfer(Request.Path); } in default.aspx.cs i have InitializeCulture(): protected override void InitializeCulture() { HttpCookie cookie = Request.Cookies["CultureInfo"]; // if there is some value in cookie if (cookie != null && cookie.Value != null) { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture(cookie.Value); Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo(cookie.Value); } else // if none value has been sent by cookie, set default language { Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = CultureInfo.CreateSpecificCulture("pl-PL"); Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("pl-PL"); } base.InitializeCulture(); } i added resource files and in one label i show actual culture: Welcome.Text = "Culture: " + System.Globalization.CultureInfo.CurrentCulture.ToString(); the problem is that when i run this app and click e.g. english button (default language is polish), there is no effect. if i click it second time or press F5, the changes are applies and in the label is Culture: en-US. the same happens if i want to change language back to polish (it works after second click (or one click and refresh)). What am i doing wrong?

I am working on a .NET project where several versions of the same type of object have been created over the life of the project - most new versions add a field or two. However, now I am looking to mitigate problems for users with an old version. My goal is that when a user tries to open an old version of the serialized object with the new program, the program will automatically assign default values to the fields that are missing from the depreciated version of the file. For example, say I had a class with two boolean fields - RepeatSound and RepeatForever. The first version of the program doesn't know how to repeat forever, so it only saved RepeatSound: <anyType xsi:type="Sound"> <RepeatSound>true</RepeatSound> </anyType> but the new files look like this: <anyType xsi:type="Sound"> <RepeatSound>true</RepeatSound> <RepeatForever>true</RepeatForever> </anyType> My goal is that when I deserialize the first file in the new program that it will create the Sound object but simply default the value of RepeatForever to false. Right now trying to deserialize the first object would throw an exception. Thank you in advance for any responses

  • How can you change Network settings (IP Address, DNS, WINS, Host Name) with code in C#

    - by rathkopf
I am developing a wizard for a machine that is to be used as a backup of other machines. When it replaces an existing machine, it needs to set its IP address, DNS, WINS, and host name to match the machine being replaced. Is there a library in .net (C#) which allows me to do this programatically? There are multiple NICs, each which need to be set individually. EDIT Thannk you TimothyP for your example. It got me moving on the right track and the quick reply was awesome. Thanks balexandre. Your code is perfect. I was in a rush and had already adapted the example TimothyP linked to, but I would have loved to have had your code sooner. I've also developed a routine using similar techniques for changing the computer name. I'll post it in the future so subscribe to this questions RSS feed if you want to be informed of the update. I may get it up later today or on Monday after a bit of cleanup.

  • Reduce number of config files to as few as possible

    - by Scott
For most of my applications I use iBatis.Net for database access/modeling and log4Net for logging. In doing this, I need a number of *.config files for each project. For example, for a simple application I need to have the following *.config files: app.config ([AssemblyName].[Extention].config) [AssemblyName].SqlMap.config [AssemblyName].log4Net.config [AssemblyName].SqlMapProperties.config providers.config When these applications go from DEV to TEST to PRODUCTION environments, the settings contained in these files change depending on the environment. When the number of files get compounded by having 5-10 (or more) supporting executables per project, the work load on the infrastructure team (the ones doing the roll-outs to the different environments) gets rather high. We also have a high risk of one of the config files being missed, or a mistype in the config file. What is the best way to avoid these risks? Should I combine all of the config files into one file? (is that possible with iBatis?) I know that with VisualStudio 2010 they introduce transforms for these config files that allow the developer to setup all the settings for the different environments and then dynamically (depending on the build kicked off) the config files get updated to the correct versions. (VS 2010 - transforms) Thank you for any help that you can provide.

  • jquery form validation: validation script specified externally

    - by Abu Hamzah
    i have a jquery form validation in the master page and it works fine and i got that working from this article: http://www.dotnetcurry.com/ShowArticle.aspx?ID=310 my question is: if i place the .js to external and add a reference to my page then its not working... it says object expected here is how i have done: in my content page (i am using master page, asp.net ) add in my content page: <script src="myform_validation.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { ValidateMe(this); }); </script> below is in the external .js file: function ValidateMe() { $("#aspnetForm").validate({ rules: { <%=TextBox1.UniqueID %>: { maxlength:1, //minlength: 12, required: true }, <%=TextBox2.UniqueID %>: { minlength: 12, required: true }, <%=TextBox3.UniqueID %>: { minlength: 12, required: true }//, // }, messages: { <%=TextBox1.UniqueID %>: { required: "Enter your firstname", minlength: jQuery.format("Enter at least {0} characters") }, <%=TextBox2.UniqueID %>: { required: "Please enter a valid email address", minlength: "Please enter a valid email address" } , <%=TextBox3.UniqueID %>: { required: "Enter your firstname", minlength: jQuery.format("Enter at least {0} characters") } } , success: function(label) { // set &nbsp; as text for IE label.html("&nbsp;").addClass("checked"); } }); } ;

  • Changing App.config at Runtime

    - by born to hula
    I'm writing a test winforms / C# / .NET 3.5 application for the system we're developing and we fell in the need to switch between .config files at runtime, but this is turning out to be a nightmare. Here's the scene: the Winforms application is aimed at testing a WebApp, divided into 5 subsystems. The test proccess works with messages being sent between the subsystems, and for this proccess to be sucessful each subsystem got to have its own .config file. For my Test Application I wrote 5 separate configuration files. I wish I was able to switch between these 5 files during runtime, but the problem is: I can programatically edit the application .config file inumerous times, but these changes will only take effect once. I've been searching a long time for a form to address this problem but I still wasn't sucessful. I know the problem definition may be a bit confusing but I would really appreciate it if someone helped me. Thanks in advance! --- UPDATE 01-06-10 --- There's something I didn't mention before. Originally, our system is a Web Application with WCF calls between each subsystem. For performance testing reasons (we're using ANTS 4), we had to create a local copy of the assemblies and reference them from the test project. It may sound a bit wrong, but we couldn't find a satisfying way to measure performance of a remote application. --- End Update --- Here's what I'm doing: public void UpdateAppSettings(string key, string value) { XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument(); xmlDoc.Load(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetupInformation.ConfigurationFile); foreach (XmlElement item in xmlDoc.DocumentElement) { foreach (XmlNode node in item.ChildNodes) { if (node.Name == key) { node.Attributes[0].Value = value; break; } } } xmlDoc.Save(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetupInformation.ConfigurationFile); System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.RefreshSection("section/subSection"); }

  • InstallUtil Publishing WMI Schema to 64 Bit Directory Instead of 32 Bit Directory

    - by Nick
This is similar to this question, but it doesn't look like a good solution was ever determined, so I'm opening a new one with clarified details. We wrote a .NET service, which among other things, publishes some of the class hierarchy using WMI. On a 64-Bit machine, we are running the 32-bit version of InstallUtil to install the service. It installs successfully, but when the service runs, we receive the following error message when publishing a WMI class using Instrumentation.Publish() DirectoryNotFoundException - (Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService'.) However, this directory does exist in the C:\Windows\syswow64 directory. If we manually copy that directory structure to the system32 directory, then everything works. However, we are looking for automated solution, because we have this packaged up in an MSI which we distribute onto many servers. We have tried running the 64-Bit version of InstallUtil, to see if that would work, however... and this is the really weird part... it gives us an error on install that says Installing WMI Schema: Started An exception occurred during the Install phase. System.IO.DirectoryNotFoundException: Could not find a part of the path 'C:\Windows\system32\WBEM\Framework\root\MyNamespace\MyService.mof'. It looks as if somehow, the WMI installer flipped around. Has anyone else experienced this, or know of a work around?
