  • How to develop a Google Gadget compatible server

    - by Peter Stegnar
I am going to develop a Google Gadget container site, that will be able to host OpenSocial compatible widgets (that I believe are Google gadgets, too, right?). Do you have any guidance where to start? I know that the good start is the iGoogle Developer Home site and that framework what I would like exists - Shindig, but is little clumsy. Tutorial links do not work, for start. Do you think it would be wise to use Shindig? Maybe just for a start and then develop any customizations, if needed? Or would be wiser to start from scratch? So where to start? Do you have any advices, tips or other useful resources to get on faster with this topic? I guess I can start with Compliance - Gadget Server?

  • Access to selection in gmail message body with Google Apps Script

    - by Mike Ellis
Can app scripts access the current selection in a gmail message? I frequently compose messages that include engineering calculations and make use of the Google Calc feature do the calculation or convert to the desired units, e.g. 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh It would be really convenient to be able to select the above, hit a mapped key (e.g. Ctrl-K) and have the inserted after the expression 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh = 0.9378 kWh instead of having to paste the expression into a search box and then copy and paste the answer. I could certainly write a solution using a keymapper and a small python script to grab the current selection, send it to the gcalc api, etc ..., but my real motivation is to get familiar with Apps Scripts's capabilities and limitations. I suppose the uber-question here is "what kinds of user actions and state information can App Script access in Gmail messages (and/or Google docs) that are being edited?"

  • Implementing Google Search Appliance results into website

    - by Adam Jenkin
I’m interested to hear peoples preferred methods or approaches to implementing the search results from a Google Search Appliance into an existing website. More specifically how do people prefer to implement/embed the search results into their existing site and persist the surrounding website elements (menus, membership etc) around the search results. As far as I am aware there are 3 different approaches. Sub-domain, handle everything in the xslt – create a search.mysite.com which is completely handled by google xslt and embed surround site components in xslt. Embed search results into existing site using an iframe – Use the existing website and just use an iframe to import results into page. Embed results into existing site by using server side processing – This is how I have previously integrated search into a site using a combination of bespoke dev and the GSALib project. I would be interested to hear if anyone has other suggestions, and were people have benefited or regretted using the above approaches.

  • How to download Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) from Google Code?

    - by Dennis
I'm trying to learn how to use GCM and I want download the simple app. I'm following the instructions here: http://developer.android.com/google/gcm/server.html. Using App Engine for Java To set up the server using a standard App Engine for Java: Get the files from the open source site, as described above. I entered the link - https://code.google.com/p/gcm/ but there is no download there, and I don't have Git (and I don't know how to use it..). Can someone please explain how to download it or give me a link or something? Thank you in advance!

    - by hap497

I tried doing this, but the width of the TextView are different: it is 149, 89, 89. <TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:stretchColumns="*" android:shrinkColumns="*"> <TextView android:id="@+id/t1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_column="0"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/t2" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_column="1"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/t3" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_column="2"/>

  • Google Calendar API DoS prevention

    - by Don
Hi, It appears that the Google calendar API effectively locks you out if you create and delete a few (less than 10) calendars within a short space of time. This has made it basically impossible for me to test my app, because it creates/deletes a calendar for each user that is added/removed from the app. Currently, I'm "working around" this issue by creating a new Google account each time I get locked out of the Calendar API. Clearly, this solution is less than satisfactory. Is there any way I can avoid this over-zealous DoS prevention? Thanks, Don

  • Showing ImageView next to TextView in a ListView

    - by KDEx
    So I have a listview that is displaying correctly. When the item is "turned on" the text is white and when it's turned off it's grey. That part all functions great. However when I add the ImageView into the mix I get a null pointer exception. I don't understand why. I've tried using bitmaps as well and get the same problem. Here is some code: @Override public void bindView(View view, Context context, Cursor cursor) { TextView rRule = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.rule_text); TextView rType = (TextView) view.findViewById(R.id.rule_type); ImageView iChecked = (ImageView) view.findViewById(R.id.checkBox); String ruleName = cursor.getString(1); int ruleType = cursor.getInt(2); String ruleEnabled = cursor.getString(3); switch (ruleType) { /*...some irrelevant code */ } if (ruleEnabled.equals("true")) { rRule.setTypeface(null, Typeface.BOLD); rRule.setTextColor(Color.WHITE); iChecked.setVisibility(View.VISIBLE); //line 271 } else if (ruleEnabled.equals("false")) { rRule.setTypeface(null, Typeface.NORMAL); rRule.setTextColor(Color.GRAY); iChecked.setVisibility(View.GONE); } rRule.setText(ruleName); } Per request the error log: (Sorry was under the impression null pointers dont say anything helpful..I know the error is the imageview) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): FATAL EXCEPTION: main 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): java.lang.NullPointerException 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.company.app.DefaultRulesList$RulesAdapter.bindView(DefaultRulesList.java:271) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.company.app.DefaultRulesList$RulesAdapter.newView(DefaultRulesList.java:284) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.CursorAdapter.getView(CursorAdapter.java:246) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.AbsListView.obtainView(AbsListView.java:2033) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.makeAndAddView(ListView.java:1772) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.fillDown(ListView.java:672) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.fillFromTop(ListView.java:732) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.ListView.layoutChildren(ListView.java:1625) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.AbsListView.onLayout(AbsListView.java:1863) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1628) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1486) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1399) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:431) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.setChildFrame(LinearLayout.java:1628) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.layoutVertical(LinearLayout.java:1486) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.LinearLayout.onLayout(LinearLayout.java:1399) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.widget.FrameLayout.onLayout(FrameLayout.java:431) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.View.layout(View.java:11278) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewGroup.layout(ViewGroup.java:4224) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.performTraversals(ViewRootImpl.java:1489) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.view.ViewRootImpl.handleMessage(ViewRootImpl.java:2442) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:137) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4424) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:511) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:784) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:551) 06-29 10:29:02.777: E/AndroidRuntime(29516): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) Code for iChecked (where the id is called) <ImageView android:id="@+id/checkBox" android:padding="2dip" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@android:drawable/checkbox_on_background"/>

  • Android Google Analytics

    - by ibenot
I'm trying to use Google Analytics in my Android application with Google Configuration Add .jar in my project Insert this in AndroidManifest Add this in my java file public class MainActivity extends Activity { GoogleAnalyticsTracker tracker; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); tracker = GoogleAnalyticsTracker.getInstance(); tracker.startNewSession("My-UA–XXXXXXXX", this); setContentView(R.layout.main); Button createEventButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.NewEventButton); createEventButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { tracker.trackEvent( "Clicks", // Category "Button", // Action "clicked", // Label 77); // Value } }); setContentView(R.layout.main); Button createPageButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.NewPageButton); createPageButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // Add a Custom Variable to this pageview, with name of "Medium" and value "MobileApp" and // scope of session-level. tracker.setCustomVar(1, "Navigation Type", "Button click", 2); // Track a page view. This is probably the best way to track which parts of your application // are being used. // E.g. // tracker.trackPageView("/help"); to track someone looking at the help screen. // tracker.trackPageView("/level2"); to track someone reaching level 2 in a game. // tracker.trackPageView("/uploadScreen"); to track someone using an upload screen. tracker.trackPageView("/testApplicationHomeScreen"); } }); Button quitButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.QuitButton); quitButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { finish(); } }); Button dispatchButton = (Button)findViewById(R.id.DispatchButton); dispatchButton.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { // Manually start a dispatch, not needed if the tracker was started with a dispatch // interval. tracker.dispatch(); } }); } @Override protected void onDestroy() { super.onDestroy(); // Stop the tracker when it is no longer needed. tracker.stopSession(); } } == And it's ok, no error, compiling and executing but i have created my ua account yesterday (more 24h) and i have nothing in my google analytics panel. My Question : is there an error in my code or i want to wait again ? Live trafic works for Android application (like tradicional website) ??? I have no information about Live trafic (when i play my app, i would like to show the number of person using my application) and Saved trafic (with viewed pages, time) Thank you for your replies and excuse my poor english :) bye

  • Keep a Google Maps v3 Map Hidden, show when needed

    - by Dr1Ku
Is there a way of preventing Google Maps (JS, v3) of being displayed from the get-go ? I do some pre-processing and would like to show my 'Loading' spinner until everything is good to go (more eloquently put, hide the map -- e.g. the container div -- until all preprocessing is complete -- at which point, show the map). Hooking to the map's 'idle' event doesn't help that much, since the map is already displayed when this event hits. I know that the container div gets inline-styled by GMaps after loading, my first idea is to clear out the style attr (whilst listening to 'idle'), but it would be interesting to see if there is a way of creating the map and not displaying it until all pre-processing is done. Maybe by using an argument to the new google.maps.Map constructor, or a MapOption ? Any thoughts on this ? Thank you in advance !

  • Google Search API - Only returning 4 results

    - by user353829
After much experimenting and googling, the following Python code successfully calls Google's Search APi - but only returns 4 results: after reading the Google Search API docs, I thought the 'start=' would return additional results: but this not happen. Can anyone give pointers? Thanks. Python code: /usr/bin/python import urllib import simplejson query = urllib.urlencode({'q' : 'site:example.com'}) url = 'http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/web?v=1.0&%s&start=50' \ % (query) search_results = urllib.urlopen(url) json = simplejson.loads(search_results.read()) results = json['responseData']['results'] for i in results: print i['title'] + ": " + i['url']

  • Google says: Sort parameters in URL problematic

    - by feklee
From Google's recommendations for URL structure: Sorting parameters. Some large shopping sites provide multiple ways to sort the same items, resulting in a much greater number of URLs. For example: http://www.example.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_query=tpb&search_sort=relevance&search_category=25" When linking from outside, then having URLs differing only by sort parameters is obviously a bad idea: Google will not understand that these links point to the same item, i.e. that the item is popular. Therefore ranking will be lower than it should. But what's the alternative? Using a fragment identifier (#), and then doing the sorting in JavaScript? What else? Some settings in Webmaster tools?

  • I can't get the MapsDemo that comes with "Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API8, revision 2" to work

    - by Hanspeter Adam
I have tried everything according to instructions to get the MapsDemo to work on API8. I followed all the certificate signing instructions and all I get is a blank (blue) screen on the emulator. I see that people have been having the same issues but all the suggested solutions boil down to the certificate signing and that has not worked for me. One guy on the Internet even said he got it to work but never said how!!!! So, I thought I'd try the MapsDemo that comes with "Google APIs by Google Inc, Android API7, revision 1". There I saw the map come up on the emulator but only once. That one time it came up clearly and I was able to pan it but after exiting the app and trying it again, it no longer worked. Now all I get is some faint outlines that makes it look like it's trying to work but for some reason is not successful. I am running on Windows Vista Service Pack 2 and using Eclipse Helios. Please help, Hans

  • Latitude & longitude coordinates of Australian states/territories for database using Google Maps

    - by RMW
Hi, We have a database which has location-based search using Google Maps API. However searching by state or territory in Australia is problematic because Google Maps locates these at the centre of the states and most population centres in Australia are on the coast. We need to hand code in the latitudes and longitudes so that when someone searches for the state 'NSW', for example, the database returns relevant results. Does anyone know where to find a list of the coordinates for the boundaries of Australian states & territories to code into the database? This will save our busy programmer a lot of time. Thanks in advance.

  • How to show empty view when ListView is empty?

    - by Sheehan Alam
Here is my layout. For some reason the empty view (TextView in this case) always appears, even when the List is not empty. I thought the ListView would automatically detect when to show the empty view. How can I hook up the empty view properly? <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/LinearLayoutAR" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> <ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/ARListView"></ListView> <ProgressBar android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/arProgressBar" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_centerVertical="true"></ProgressBar> <!-- Here is the view to show if the list is emtpy --> <TextView android:id="@id/android:empty" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:text="No Results" /> </RelativeLayout>

  • Google Maps API limitations

    - by Henrik Skogmo
I am working on a project where I am going to create a map over a specific area, and have some points-of-interest included. Thinking of the ones already included in Google Maps. My first thought was that this could be done in the Google Maps API, but I've never worked with if before so therefor I have some questions about it's limitations and capability. Can I limit the map to one specific area? Can I filter the points-of-interest? Ex. only gas stations and hotels etc. Thats about it to get me started at least. Thanks!

  • accessing variable sheet ranges within Google spreadsheet?

    - by Daniel Harvey
I've been trying to keep this little project entirely within Google docs, but I may have hit a wall. The spreadsheet is being used as a way for multiple users to record individual events with a Template they duplicate. I want to be able to compile a list of names of those attended onto a "report" sheet from all of the unique sheets, which should be after a certain sheet index [3] to [infinite]. Is this sort of variable sheet range possible in Google spreadsheets or do I need to go to the API to get this accomplished?

  • How to save coordinates with Google Map?

    - by Pavel
Hey everyone. I'm currently developing an app which uses tabs and google map. What I want to do is to get the gps positions, say 3, and store them in sql db (which I'm already doing) and then display them on the map. I already created canvas, added to overlay but those points disappear when I'm changing tabs so I thought if there is a way to somehow store those coords with google map so I can retrieve them and display them nicely whenever I'm clicking the "map tab"? Please can anyone help?

  • Android MediaPlayer ignores it's internal volume when the system volume changes

    - by Daniel Flower
Hi, here is my situation: I have a media player playing music in an Android application. I've found that with certain headphones, the volume is much too loud even when the volume is set to it's lowest setting. As a result, I want to change the volume of the music for all volume levels to be 10% of what it normally is (actually, this value is user-defined of course). The following works perfectly: mediaPlayer.setVolume(0.1f, 0.1f); The volume of the music is now at a good level for listening. However, if the user now changes the volume using the volume rocker (thus changing the music stream volume), the media player changes the volume as expected, but it also seems to reset the 'setVolume' parameters to 1.0, causing a massive volume change. Setting the volume back to 0.1 sets the volume to how it should be (which is 10% of the current music stream volume). To quote the Android docs for the MediaPlayer.setVolume method: This API is recommended for balancing the output of audio streams within an application How can you do this if it gets reset to 1.0 each time the system volume changes? Any help muchly appreciated. Thanks.

Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE); startActivityForResult(intent, TAKE_PICTURE); and in the onActivityResult method I am doing the following if ((requestCode == TAKE_PICTURE) && (resultCode == Activity.RESULT_OK)) { Uri photoPath = intent.getData(); // do something with the uri here } The above code works fine on htc Tatto and Sony ericsson's x10 running 1.6 but in on htc G1 running 1.6 the above code causes the following exception 03-08 18:54:25.906: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): Uncaught handler: thread main exiting due to uncaught exception 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): java.lang.RuntimeException: Failure delivering result ResultInfo{who=null, request=1, result=-1, data=Intent { act=inline-data (has extras) }} to activity removed java.lang.NullPointerException 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread.deliverResults(ActivityThread.java:3224) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread.handleSendResult(ActivityThread.java:3266) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread.access$2600(ActivityThread.java:116) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread$H.handleMessage(ActivityThread.java:1823) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.os.Handler.dispatchMessage(Handler.java:99) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.os.Looper.loop(Looper.java:123) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread.main(ActivityThread.java:4203) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invokeNative(Native Method) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at java.lang.reflect.Method.invoke(Method.java:521) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit$MethodAndArgsCaller.run(ZygoteInit.java:791) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at com.android.internal.os.ZygoteInit.main(ZygoteInit.java:549) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at dalvik.system.NativeStart.main(Native Method) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at removed 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.Activity.dispatchActivityResult(Activity.java:3624) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): at android.app.ActivityThread.deliverResults(ActivityThread.java:3220) 03-08 18:54:25.966: ERROR/AndroidRuntime(4344): ... 11 more Any insights into how to solve this problem.
