  • What is missing from the Java API?

    I started using Java years ago and I've always found almost everything I need inside the standard API provided with JDK SE, with the exception of specific things that don't fit well inside a generic API, like GUI elements (graphs or so on) or advanced mathematical API.. So I was wondering: Which are the most important things that the Java API is missing? When I say "important", I mean either things that you have often needed, but have had to rely on custom libraries, or things that are usually are included in APIs, but not in Java's.

  • C# / asp.net: What are your views on .net email components/suites out there?

    Found two libraries Rebex (www.rebex.net) and QuikSoft (www.quiksoft.com) any comments on these based on experience or other ones I havent not found? Looking for components that will use SMTP to send a lot of emails for general email notificatins and bulk mailshots. Built in templating would be nice. Also need to receive emails from various accounts. Having the ability to validate and check bounce backs etc would be good for reporting (appreciating that this isnt 100% effective)

    I would like the VB.net WebClient to remember cookies. I have searched and tried numerous overloads classes. I want to login to a website via POST, then POST to another page and get its contents whilst still retaining my session. Is this possible with VB.net without using WebBrowser control ? I tried Chilkat.HTTP and it works, but I want to use .Net libraries. Regards, Jeremy.

  • Using JRuby/Jython for Ruby/Python interoperability?

    Quite-probably a silly question, as I don't know much about Java/Jython/JRuby/bytecode, but.. I stumbled across _why's unholy again today.. It allows you to output Python bytecode from Ruby code.. Basically allowing them to produce the same bytecode.. Jython outputs Java bytecode, as does JRuby.. Since these both compile to the same bytecode, does this mean you could potentially use any Python library from Ruby, and Ruby libraries from Python?

  • Identifier for win64 configuration in Qmake

    Is there a "win64" identifier in Qmake project files? Qt Qmake advanced documentation does not mention other than unix / macx / win32. So far I've tried using: win32:message("using win32") win64:message("using win64") amd64:message("using amd64") The result is always "using win32". Must I use a separate project-file for x32 and x64 projects, so they would compile against correct libraries? Is there any other way to identify between 32-bit and 64-bit environments?

I suspect it is because it is pretty rough and unforgiving for beginners, and maybe because its lazy execution makes it even harder

  • Symbolizing plugins in Instruments' stack traces

    Instruments is able to properly symbolize my app's main bundle (as well as frameworks and libraries) in the stack trace of the extended detail view. However, symbols aren't resolved for plugins loaded during execution. Setting the build directory where the dSym files for the main and plugin bundles are located (as well as the app itself) in the "File Re-Symbolicate Document" menu item made no discernible difference in the stack trace. What must I do for Instruments to load symbols for the plugins?

Clients will be sending votes for particular pieces of content, and receiving near-realtime updates of aggregated vote tallies from the server. The datastore needs to support: Storing the votes Summarising the votes in near-realtime Preventing multiple votes within an arbitrary time period (e.g. clients can only vote once for a piece of content every 1 minute) Something that already has client libraries for Node.js would be preferable.

    I always see people mention that "Python binding" and "C Sharp binding" etc. when I am actually using their C++ libraries. What does binding mean? If the library is written in C, and does Python binding means that they use SWIG kind of tool to mock a Python interface? Newbie in this field, and any suggestion will be welcomed.

    I'm trying to use KSoap2 library. I put the file Ksoap2-android-assembly-2.5.7-jar-with-dependencies.jar in the directory workspace myproject libs Then I setted it in build path. (libraries) I have error just when I run the application: 11-27 10:32:56.260: E/dalvikvm(1593): Could not find class 'org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject', referenced from method associated to this code line: SoapObject request = new SoapObject(NAMESPACE, METHOD_NAME); I tried also with the steps suggested in this thread exception while using ksoap2 library for android whitout success

We're considering switching to PHP's PDO object, but from some quick searches, it looks like the Oracle driver is a bit less mature than the other PDO drivers.
