Hi, I am learning the Opengl graphic programming at Eclipse. Can someone tell me the difference between GLUT application and SDL application, so that I can dig into either one of them? Tks.
I have a Bitmap object and want to render it to a Canvas object with varying levels of translucency (i.e. make the whole bitmap partially see through). For example, I have sprites in a game (that are drawn over the top of a bitmap background) that I want to fade out from being opaque to being invisible. Can I do this without having to resort to OpenGL?
Right now I am writing a simulation program which output is formatted according to certain factors. The question is in a MVC architecture, where is the conditional formatting to be taken place? What are some strategies for implement this feature?
FYI, The platform I am using is rather bare-bone in its GUI/front-end execution. To change color and formatting, it requires a change to the formatting state (much like OpenGL).
Pretty simple question: when doing some pretty intense drawing with CoreGraphics on the iPhone, how can I specify the pixel format to get optimal performance? Is the format that I get from the context via UIGraphicsGetCurrentContext per definition the best one? I know that RGB565 is supposed to be the fastest to use in OpenGL. Does that go for CoreGraphics as well? General advice?
I need to render a simple texture mapped model as the output of a directshow source filter. The 3d rendering doesnt need to come from Direct3D, but that would be nice. OpenGL or any other provider would be fine assuming I can fit it into the context of the DirectShow source filter.

In every Turing-Complete language, is it possible to create a working
Compiler for itself which first runs on an interpreter written in some other language and then compiles it's own source code? (Bootstrapping)
Standards-Compilant C++ compiler which outputs binaries for, e.g.: Windows?
Regex Parser and Evaluater?
World of Warcraft clone? (Assuming the language gets the necessary API bindings as, for example, OpenGL and the WoW source code is available)
(Everything here theoretical)
Let's take Brainf*ck as an example language.
Since I cannot pre-render all the images in PNGs and real-time image transformation functions are required, namely:
skew
perspective
(like the transform action found in Photoshop)
Which API (CoreAnimation? OpenGL ES?) should I look into? Even better, is there any sample code around? Thanks!
How could I let a user jot a quick hand-written note on an iPad using a Pogo-like stylus? (Or by using their finger, some kind of stylus makes it more legible feasible.)
Initial thoughts:
1) Open GL canvas?
2) Store the output as a .png/.jpg snapshot of the openGL screen (by taking a screenhot of the iPad?
3) Would the note be limited to one screenshot, could there be a scrollable area notepad to write out a long note?
Anyone have numbers on how many machines / % of internet uses have Google Native Client?
I'm curious about google NaCL as a platform: it seems to combine the best of the web (just a webpage, accessible on any machine) and desktop apps (OpenGL, C/C++ power). The only question is -- what percent of the world actually use it.
Anyone have data on this?
Thanks!
Hey. I'm a software and web developer for ~3 years, and I want to start learning 3D network game programming.
What is the most modern & fastest way to write 3D PC games? What language? For graphics, should I use a graphics API like Direct3D/OpenGL or is there something less painful?
What math/physics skills should I know before starting?
Thank you.
I'm giving a try at OpenCL, and in order to put this in production I'd like to be able to bind dynamically to OpenCL.DLL (when under Windows), in order to handle 'gracefully' the case where no OpenCL is installed on the host computer.
Is there any available library (or code snippet) that takes care of this dynamic binding in C or C++, much like GLEW does for OpenGL ? I'd like to avoid the hassle to do it myself.
Thanks,
Hi,
If you see the URL
in TRY ME simulator select cardex tab,if u scroll vertically on simulator(flash),the no of uiviews are coming,if u touch anything, it will be shown, any idea to do this ,have they used OPENGL? please any help?
Hi all, I'm interested in recording a video with a custom overlay which would end up in the video itself. They could be UIImage or even better, an OpenGL viewport, is there even such possibility right now on any iPhone devices/SDK ?
Thanks
Is there any openCL books out there? or in the pipeline?
Any online openCL tutorial?
I already looked at the usual pages like khronos/nvidia dev/opengl.org/ati dev/siggraph slides. Any other help or pointer is welcome :-D Thanks!
At WWDC 09 in Session 304 "Game Development for iPhone, Part 1 (Graphics, Audio)", about 6 minutes after start of the Session, they showed off a small but nice OpenGL ES game demo and repeating over and over again how easy it is to implement. Is that source code of the demo available somewhere for download?
I'm developing a OpenGL based simulation in C++. I'm optmizing my code now and i see throughout the code the frequently use of std:list and std:vector. What is the more performatic: to continue using C++ stl data structs or a pointer based linked list? The main operation that involve std::list and std::vector is open a iterator and loop through all items in the data structs and apply some processing
Do graphic cards have instruction sets of their own?
I assume they do, but I have been wondering if it is proprietary or if there is some sort of open standard.
Is every GPU instruction preceded by a CPU instruction or is it seamless?
That is does OpenGL or DirectX call on the driver layer via the CPU which then sends a GPU instruction down the bus or is it more elaborate.
What would you call the effect applied to the backgrounds in the Giygas fight of Earthbound, and the battle backgrounds in Mother 3? This is what I'm talking about.

Now anyone know how I could go about this without using animated images, or using openGL?
Hi,
I am writing and opengl based iphone app and would like to allow a user to translate around a view based on the direction that they move two fingers on the screen. For one finger I know I could just calculate the vector from the start position to the current position of the users finger and then find the unit vector of this to get just the direction, but I don't know how I would do this for two fingers, I don't think adding the components of the vectors and calculating the average would work so I'm pretty much stuck...
thanks in advance
i wonder how you can make an advanced Android User interface where you can add for example a drag drop and more graphics options? is that by using OpenGl ?!
this is example of UI in iPhone Apps.
example 1
example 2
Thanks
I would like to develop a reader app for viewing and manipulating proprietary format documents. The documents are 2D. (Might add some cool page flip effects) The interface is similar to that of mobile safari. I'm trying to decide whether to write this in Quartz2D or OpenGL ES. I have no prior experience with either of those. Any suggestions?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if it is possible to run transparent video? (the background should be something else, like a picture, or view, shown from the camera, etc.)?
Any idea if this is possible and how it's done? (should I use openGL, or smthn else)?
10x in advance,
Danail
