  • Why do most web hosting services support only php as server-side language?

    Hello, I have been working with java and python, so I found a nice web host which has support for these. But my question is, why can you find so hard such hosts? I understand that php is easy, I also understand that oracle host is hard to find ($$$ of course), but what do they have against some good open-source, completely free java spring, jsp, django, python, ror, perl etc etc .... So rare to find hosts ... not to mention freelancer bids Thank you.

  • Can one read a remote file as an istream with libcurl?

    I'd like to use the libcurl library to open a remote date file and iterate through it with an istream. I've looked through the nice example in this thread but it writes the remote file to a local file. Instead I'd like to have the remote reads be pushed to an istream for subsequent programmatic manipulation. Is this possible? I would greatly appreciate help. Best, Aaron

In the code I have plenty of static variables of type java.lang.String that are hand written SQL queries.   • Pull news from an RDF Feed using Ruby and Nokogiri?

    I would like to pull the titleand description fields from the newsfeed at http://www.tagesschau.de/newsticker.rdf to feed them to the Mac's Text-to-Speech engine. My search for a nice Ruby Gem to do this has brought me to Nokogiri, but all examples that "pull something out" of a given XML seem to be centered around CSS somehow. Does anyone have any idea how to save the titleand description fields in an array?

With one argument, list 11 lines starting at that line. With two arguments, list the given range; if the second argument is less than the first, it is a count. The "continue the previous listing" feature is really nice, but how do you turn it off?

When clicking this the menu text moves left off the menu and the new categories are in. How do i do this type of menu? i'm open to any libs.     In my website everybody can send some links to other nice websites. All links in my database must by unique, but some links are with 'www.' prefix, and some without. Some ends for '/', some not. For example: |http://www.domain.com |http://domain.com |http://domain.com |http://domain.com/ and other problems can be with https or http. I know that I should change address before saving to database, but what standard I should use?

  • iPhone: keep text looking good after scale transform applied?

    I'm applying a scale transform to a UIView that draws a number. (The number is literally being drawn with drawInRect; no UILabel in sight.) The scale transform makes the view smaller by quite a bit...say, 80% smaller. The resulting number looks a little "chunky". Is there a way that I can keep my text looking nice and anti-aliased, the way it's supposed to look? Thanks.

  • easy hex/float conversion

    I am doing some input/output between a c++ and a python program (only floating point values) python has a nice feature of converting floating point values to hex-numbers and back as you can see in this link: http://docs.python.org/library/stdtypes.html#additional-methods-on-float Is there an easy way in C++ to to something similar? and convert the python output back to C++ double/float? This way I would not have the problem of rounding errors when exchanging data between the two processes... thx for the answers!
