  • How do I display core data on second view controller?

    - by jon
    I am working on my first core data iPhone application. I am using a navigation controller, and the root view controller displays 4 rows. Clicking the first row takes me to a second table view controller. However, when I click the back button, repeat the row tap, click the back button again, and tap the row a third time, I get an error. I have been researching this for a week with no success. I can reproduce the error easily: Create a new Navigation-based Application, use Core Data for storage, call it MyTest which creates MyTestAppDelegate and RootViewController. Add new UIViewController subclass, with UITableViewController and xib, call it ListViewController. Copy code from RootViewController.h and .m to ListViewController.h and .m., changing the file names appropriately. To simplify the code, I removed the trailing “_” from all variables. In RootViewController, I added #import ListViewController.h, set up an array to display 4 rows and navigate to ListViewController when clicking the first row. In ListViewController.m, I added #import MyTestAppDelegate.h” and the following code: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; if (managedObjectContext == nil) { managedObjectContext = [(MyTestAppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; } .. } The sequence that causes the error is tap row, return, tap row, return, tap row - error. managedObjectContext is synthesized for the third time. I appreciate your patience and your help, as this makes no sense to me. ADDENDUM: I may have a partial solution. http://www.iphonedevsdk.com/forum/iphone-sdk-development/41688-accessing-app-delegates-managed-object-context.html If I do not release the managedObjectContext in the .m file, the error goes away. Is that ok or will that cause me issues? - (void)dealloc { [fetchedResultsController release]; // [managedObjectContext release]; [super dealloc]; } ADDENDUM 2: See solution below. Sorry for the formatting issues - this was my first post.

  • C++: how serialize/deserialize objects without any library?

    - by Winte Winte
    I try to understand how serializing/deserializing works in c++, so I want to do that without any libs. But I really stuck with that. I start with simple objects but when I try to deserilize a vector I understand that I can't get a vector without if I don't write it size before. Moreover, I don't know which format of file I should choose because if digits will be existed before size of vector I haven't chance to read it right. However it is only the vector but I also want to do that with classes and map container. My task is serialize/deserialize a objects as this: PersonInfo { unsigned int age_; string name_; enum { undef, man, woman } sex_; } Person : PersonInfo { vector<Person> children_; map<string, PersonInfo> addrBook_; } Currently I know how to serialize simple objects in way as this: vector<PersonInfo> vecPersonInfo; vecPersonInfo.push_back(*personInfo); vecPersonInfo.push_back(*oneMorePersonInfo); ofstream file("file", ios::out | ios::binary); if (!file) { cout<<"can not open file"; } else { vector<PersonInfo>::const_iterator iterator = vecPersonInfo.begin(); for (; iterator != vecPersonInfo.end(); iterator++) { file<<*iterator; } Could you please suggest how I can do this for this conplex object or a good tutorial that explain it clearly?

  • How to change the Array Element names in XmlSerialization?

    - by MSDN Geek
    Hi Guys, Consider the following code: [Serializable] public class Human { public string Name { get; set; } } Then, using (MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream()) { Human[] mans = new Human[] { new Human() { Name = "Moim" } }; XmlSerializer xs = new XmlSerializer(typeof(Human[])); xs.Serialize(ms, mans); string s = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetString(ms.ToArray()); } At this point, the variable s will hold a value like, <?xml version="1.0"?> <ArrayOfHuman xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Human> <Name>Moim</Name> </Human> </ArrayOfHuman> Now all I need to do is, changing the xml array root element 'ArrayOfHuman' to something like 'MyFavoriteArrayRootName'. I have seen the IXmlSerializable interface but, that skips the root element name. Anybody has got any idea how to achieve this? All comments will be greatly appreciated. Best regards.

  • loop prematurely quitting

    - by Nick Gibson
    This loop works fine but prematurely quits at times. I set a piece of code in it so that I can view the random number. It only closes prematurely when the random number is equal to the highest numbered question the user inputs (Example...a user wants 10 questions, if the random number is 10 the program quits.) I have no idea why since i have it set to if(random number <= the number of questions) for ( int loop = 1; loop < loopCount; loop++ ) { aa = r.nextInt ( 10 + 1 ); abc = ( int ) aa; String[] userAnswer = new String[x]; JOptionPane.showMessageDialog ( null, abc ); if ( abc <= x ) { for ( overValue = 1; overValue < forLoop; overValue++ ); { userAnswer[j] = JOptionPane.showInputDialog ( null, "Question " + quesNum + "\n" + questions[abc] + "\n\nA: " + a[abc] + "\nB: " + b[abc] + "\nC: " + c[abc] + "\nD: " + d[abc] ); if ( userAnswer[j].equals ( answers[j] ) ) { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog ( null, "Correct. \nThe Correct Answer is " + answers[abc] ); } else { JOptionPane.showMessageDialog ( null, "Wrong. \n The Correct Answer is " + answers[abc] ); }//else }//for }//if }//for

  • Checking Selected Radio Button after POST

    - by coffeeaddict
    I've been using ASP.NET controls which perform a lot of the manual for you. But I'm going back to the basics, what everyone else does. I'm using standard input tags. So for example if I have a radio button group and I select a button. When the form submits and does a POST back to whatever action="MyPage.aspx" then to grab and check the radio button's value that was selected is it always done like this below? <label><input type="radio" name="rbGroup" value='<%# ((Action)Container.DataItem).ID %>'/><%# ((Action)Container.DataItem).Name %></label> So here I'm appending the ID to the value. And then when it hits the page that my action specifies, I'm checking to see which was selected by trimming off and getting that ID from the value: string selection = Request.Form["rbGroup"]; string dbRecordIdSelected = int.Parse(selection.Substring(1)); so now I can check the id they selected...that is the ID of the db record that gave that selected radio it's name. Is that how you basically always check what radio was selected by checking the name/value pair that comes across for that selected radioButton group name? And then you can append stuff like IDs or whatever you want to grab and parse out to then do additional logic on the server-side once that header reaches the server and your specified page in the action attribute? The above code is not production code, just something to explain what I'm talking about.

  • How do you create a generic method in a class?

    - by Seth Spearman
    Hello, I am really trying to follow the DRY principle. I have a sub that looks like this? Private Sub DoSupplyModel OutputLine("ITEM SUMMARIES") Dim ItemSumms As New SupplyModel.ItemSummaries(_currentSupplyModel, _excelRows) ItemSumms.FillRows() OutputLine("") OutputLine("NUMBERED INVENTORIES") Dim numInvs As New SupplyModel.NumberedInventories(_currentSupplyModel, _excelRows) numInvs.FillRows() OutputLine("") End Sub I would like to collapse these into a single method using generics. For the record, ItemSummaries and NumberedInventories are both derived from the same base class DataBuilderBase. I can't figure out the syntax that will allow me to do ItemSumms.FillRows and numInvs.FillRows in the method. FillRows is declared as Public Overridable Sub FillRows in the base class. Thanks in advance. EDIT Here is my end result Private Sub DoSupplyModels() DoSupplyModelType("ITEM SUMMARIES",New DataBlocks(_currentSupplyModel,_excelRows) DoSupplyModelType("DATA BLOCKS",New DataBlocks(_currentSupplyModel,_excelRows) End Sub Private Sub DoSupplyModelType(ByVal outputDescription As String, ByVal type As DataBuilderBase) OutputLine(outputDescription) type.FillRows() OutputLine("") End Sub But to answer my own question...I could have done this... Private Sub DoSupplyModels() DoSupplyModelType(Of Projections)("ITEM SUMMARIES") DoSupplyModelType(Of DataBlocks)("DATA BLOCKS") End Sub Private Sub DoSupplyModelType(Of T as DataBuilderBase)(ByVal outputDescription As String, ByVal type As T) OutputLine(outputDescription) dim type as New T(_currentSupplyModel,_excelRows) type.FillRows() OutputLine("") End Sub Is that right? Does the New T() work? Seth

  • Need help implementing this algorithm with map reduce(hadoop)

    - by Julia
    Hi all! i have algorithm that will go through a large data set read some text files and search for specific terms in those lines. I have it implemented in Java, but I didnt want to post code so that it doesnt look i am searching for someone to implement it for me, but it is true i really need a lot of help!!! This was not planned for my project, but data set turned out to be huge, so teacher told me I have to do it like this. I was reading about MapReduce and thaught that i first do the standard implementation and then it will be more/less easier to do it with mapreduce. But didnt happen, since algorithm is quite stupid and nothing special, and map reduce...i cant wrap my mind around it. So here is shortly pseudo code of my algorithm LIST termList (there is method that creates this list from lucene index) FOLDER topFolder INPUT topFolder IF it is folder and not empty list files (there are 30 sub folders inside) FOR EACH sub folder GET file "CheckedFile.txt" analyze(CheckedFile) ENDFOR END IF Method ANALYZE(CheckedFile) read CheckedFile WHILE CheckedFile has next line GET line FOR(loops through termList) GET third word from line IF third word = term from list append whole line to string buffer ENDIF ENDFOR END WHILE OUTPUT string buffer to file Also, as you can see, each time when "analyze" is called, new file has to be created, i understood that map reduce is difficult to write to many outputs??? I understand mapreduce intuition, and my example seems perfectly suited for mapreduce, but when it comes to do this, obviously I do not know enough and i am STUCK! Please please help.

  • Work with function references

    - by Ockonal
    Hello, I have another one question about functions reference. For example, I have such definition: typedef boost::function<bool (Entity &handle)> behaviorRef; std::map< std::string, ptr_vector<behaviorRef> > eventAssociation; The first question is: how to insert values into such map object? I tried: eventAssociation.insert(std::pair< std::string, ptr_vector<behaviorRef> >(eventType, ptr_vector<behaviorRef>(callback))); But the error: no matching function for call to ‘boost::ptr_vector<boost::function<bool(Entity&)> >::push_back(Entity::behaviorRef&)’ And I undersatnd it, but can't make workable code. The second question is how to call such functions? For example, I have one object of behaviorRef, how to call it with boost::bind with passing my own values?

  • HTML templating in C++ and translations

    - by Karim
    I'm using HTML_Template for templating in my C++-based web app (don't ask). I chose that because it was very simple and it turns out to be a good solution. The only problem right now is that I would like to be able to include translatable strings in the HTML templates (HTML_Template does not really support that). Ultimately, what I would like is to have a single file that contains all the strings to be translated. It can then be given to a translator and plugged back in to the app and used depending on which language the user chose in settings. I've been going back and forth on some options and was wondering what others felt was the best choice (or if there's a better choice that isn't listed) Extend HTML_Template to include a tag for holding the literal string to translate. So, for example, in the HTML I would put something like <TMPL_TRANS "this is the text to translate"/> Use a completely separate scheme for translation and preprocess the HTML files to generate the final template files (without the special translation lingo). For example, in the pre-processed file, translatable text would look like this: {{this is the text to translate}} and the final would look like: this is the text to translate Don't do anything and let the translators find the string to translate in the html and js files themselves.

  • How to use CellRenderer for GregorianCalendar?

    - by HansDampf
    So I have been trying to use the example from Tutorial and change it so it fits my program. The getColumnValue method returns the object that holds the information that is supposed to be displayed. Is this the way to go or should it rather return the actual String to be displayed. I guess not because that way I would mix the presentation with the data, which I was trying to avoid. public class IssueTableFormat implements TableFormat<Appointment> { public int getColumnCount() { return 6; } public String getColumnName(int column) { if(column == 0) return "Datum"; else if(column == 1) return "Uhrzeit"; else if(column == 2) return "Nummer"; else if(column == 3) return "Name"; else if(column == 4) return "letzte Aktion"; else if(column == 5) return "Kommentar"; throw new IllegalStateException(); } public Object getColumnValue(Appointment issue, int column) { if(column == 0) return issue.getDate(); else if(column == 1) return issue.getDate(); else if(column == 2) return issue.getSample(); else if(column == 3) return issue.getSample(); else if(column == 4) return issue.getHistory(); else if(column == 5) return issue.getComment(); throw new IllegalStateException(); } } The column 0 and 1 contain a GregorianCalendar object, but I want column 0 to show the date and 1 to show the time. So I know using cellRenderers can help here. This is what I tried. public class DateRenderer extends DefaultTableCellRenderer { public DateRenderer() { super(); } public void setValue(Object value) { GregorianCalendar g =(GregorianCalendar) value; value=g.get(GregorianCalendar.HOUR); } } But the cell doesnt show anything, what is wrong here?

  • Need help with jquery json data transfer from php file

    - by Scarface
    Hey guys I am trying to return the latest 10 results of a query from a php file, through json format, to a jquery getjson function that prints results. I am getting weird problems though. For example I am only getting 8 entries returned, and some are disordered, and sometimes nothing is returned. I am not really sure what I am doing wrong, so if anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it. This is my query ($res) SELECT time, user, message FROM comments WHERE topic_id='$topic_id' ORDER BY time DESC LIMIT 10 This is the processing of the results while($row = mysql_fetch_array($res)){ $message=$row['message']; $user=$row['user']; if($row['message'] AND $row['time'] > $_GET['time']) $data[] = $row; } $out = json_encode($data); print $out; And this is the retrieval where prepare is just a function that returns information into a div $.getJSON(files+"processing.php?action=load&time="+0+"&topic_id="+topic_id+"&t=" + (new Date()), function(json) { if(json.length) { for(i=0; i < 10; i++) { $('#comment-list').prepend(prepare(json[i])); $('#list-' + count).fadeIn(1500); } } }); function prepare(response) { count++; var string = '<li class="comment-list" id="list-'+count+'">' //organize info into a div +'</li>'; return string; }

  • Javascript BBcode function not working

    I have a string I want to convert to divs but it doesn't close the div properly. The example string i am using is this: [quote]Quote by: user1 [quote]Quote by: user2 ads[/quote]Test[/quote]Testing 2. This results in: <div class="quote" style="margin-left:10px;margin-top:10px;"> Quote by: user1 [quote]Quote by: user2 ads </div> Test[/quote]Testing 2. But it will not convert the internal quotes properly. My Javascript function is like this: function bbcode_parser(str) { search = new Array( /\[b\](.*?)\[\/b\]/g, /\[i\](.*?)\[\/i\]/g, /\[quote](.*?)\[\/quote\]/g, /\[\*\]\s?(.*?)\n/g); replace = new Array( "<strong>$1</strong>", "<em>$1</em>", "<div class='quote' style='margin-left:10px;margin-top:10px;'>$1</div>"); for (i = 0; i < search.length; i++) { str = str.replace(search[i], replace[i]); } return str; } I have provided a JSFiddle for you to see it in action: http://jsfiddle.net/gRaFW/2/ Please help :)

  • Which of the following Java coding fragments is better?

    - by Simon
    This isn't meant to be subjective, I am looking for reasons based on resource utilisation, compiler performance, GC performance etc. rather than elegance. Oh, and the position of brackets doesn't count, so no stylistic comments please. Take the following loop; Integer total = new Integer(0); Integer i; for (String str : string_list) { i = Integer.parse(str); total += i; } versus... Integer total = 0; for (String str : string_list) { Integer i = Integer.parse(str); total += i; } In the first one i is function scoped whereas in the second it is scoped in the loop. I have always thought (believed) that the first one would be more efficient because it just references an existing variable already allocated on the stack, whereas the second one would be pushing and popping i each iteration of the loop. There are quite a lot of other cases where I tend to scope variables more broadly than perhaps necessary so I thought I would ask here to clear up a gap in my knowledge. Also notice that assignment of the variable on initialisation either involving the new operator or not. Do any of these sorts of semi-stylistic semi-optimisations make any difference at all?

  • How do I make this Java code operate properly? [Multi-threaded, race condition]

    - by Fixee
    I got this code from a student, and it does not work properly because of a race condition involving x++ and x--. He added synchronized to the run() method trying to get rid of this bug, but obviously this only excludes threads from entering run() on the same object (which was never a problem in the first place) but doesn't prevent independent objects from updating the same static variable x at the same time. public class DataRace implements Runnable { static volatile int x; public synchronized void run() { for (int i = 0; i < 10000; i++) { x++; x--; } } public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { Thread [] threads = new Thread[100]; for (int i = 0; i < threads.length; i++) threads[i] = new Thread(new DataRace()); for (int i = 0; i < threads.length; i++) threads[i].start(); for (int i = 0; i < threads.length; i++) threads[i].join(); System.out.println(x); // x not always 0! } } Since we cannot synchronize on x (because it is primitive), the best solution I can think of is to create a new static object like static String lock = ""; and enclose the x++ and x-- within a synchronized block, locking on lock. But this seems really awkward. Is there a better way?

  • SubSonic 3 issue creating List<>

    I have an application that requires we use distinct user connection strings per user. We are trying to upgrade from SubSonic 2.x to 3.0. I'm running into issues with trying to create a List< of objects. When I try to create a List like this: List<table_name> oList = table_name.All().Where(tn => tn.table_id == TableId).ToList(); I get the error "Connection string 'ConnectionStringName' does not exist." So, I try to create the List< like this: List<table_name> oList = table_name.All(sConnectionString, "System.Data.SqlClient").Where(tn => tn.table_id == TableId).ToList(); I get the error "The name 'table_name' does not exist in the current context." I'm using SQL Server, and the sConnectionString is definitely verified to be a good connection string, and the table_name is a table in the database. What am I doing wrong?

Imagine that there is a lot more work than trimming going on. public string Thingy { set { // I guess we can throw a null reference exception here on null. value = value.Trim(); // Well, imagine that there is so much processing to do this.thingy = value; // That this.thingy = value.Trim() would not fit on one line ... So, if the assignment has to take two lines, then I either have to abusereuse the parameter, or create a temporary variable. I am not a big fan of temporary variables. On the other hand, I am not a fan of convoluted code. I did not include an example where a function is involved, but I am sure you can imagine it. One concern I have is if a function accepted a string and the parameter was "abused", and then someone changed the signature to ref in both places - this ought to mess things up, but ... who would knowingly make such a change if it already worked without a ref? Seems like it is their responsibility in this case. If I mess with the value of value, am I doing something non-trivial under the hood? If you think that both approaches are acceptable, then which do you prefer and why? Thanks.

  • alternative in .Net to building Tables/TR/TD manually?

    I've got a pile of code here that looks like this: if (stateTax > 0) { tr = new TableRow(); tbl.Rows.Add(tr); td = new TableCell(); td.CssClass = "stdLabel"; td.Text = "NY State Tax"; tr.Cells.Add(td); td = new TableCell(); td.Text = string.Format("{0:C}", stateTax); td.CssClass = "justRight"; tr.Cells.Add(td); } This is a horrible hash of data and layout, but creating a special class or control every time something like this comes up seems almost as bad. What I usually do is write a helper function, which is concise but ugly: if (stateTax > 0) MakeRow(tbl, "NY State Tax", "stdLabel", string.Format("{0:C}", stateTax), "justRight"); And now I'm thinking: haven't I done this 100 times before? Isn't there a more modern way? Just to be explicit: it's a whole list of miscellaneous labels and values. They don't come from any particular data source, and the rules for when rows should be suppressed vary. This example has only two columns, but I have other places with more.
