  • List of items with same values

    - by user559780
    I'm creating a list of items from a file BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(new FileInputStream("H:/temp/data.csv"))); try { List<Item> items = new ArrayList<Item>(); Item item = new Item(); String line = null; while ((line = reader.readLine()) != null) { String[] split = line.split(","); item.name = split[0]; item.quantity = Integer.valueOf(split[1]); item.price = Double.valueOf(split[2]); item.total = item.quantity * item.price; items.add(item); } for (Item item2 : items) { System.out.println("Item: " + item2.name); } } catch (IOException e) { reader.close(); e.printStackTrace(); } Problem is the list is displaying the last line in the file as the value for all items.

  • jsf and eclipse setup. Lib in Explorer is different than lib in tomcat. How come?

    - by user384706
    Hi, I am starter in JSF2.0, and I have a question related to Eclipse (I am using Helios). 1)I create a Dynamic Project 2)I add JSF project facet. 3)I choose JSF user library (I have created it using MyFaces) All ok so far. I notice though that in the Project Explorer in WebContent/WEB-INF/lib the lib directory is empty instead of having MyFaces jars. The application works fine though. I looked into this and the jars are actually being placed in the corresponding lib directory of the app deployed under wtpwebapps of the Tomcat instance of eclipse in the .pluggins directory. Ok, it works but IMHO it is incorrect to have the Project Explorer inconsistent with the directories actually deployed. I.e. lib is shown empty in Project Explorer but with jars under wtpwebapps. Am I wrong to dislike this inconsistency? Is this how it should work or am I doing something wrong in the way I am setting my project? Thanks!

  • Counting the number of occurrences of characters in an array

    - by Anthony Pittelli
    This is what I have but it is not working, this is confusing for me. If you scroll down I commented on someones post the exact problem I am having and what I am trying to do. I was thinking maybe the problem is my code to generate the random characters: public void add (char fromChar, char toChar){ Random r = new Random(); //creates a random object int randInt; for (int i=0; i<charArray.length; i++){ randInt = r.nextInt((toChar-fromChar) +1); charArray[i] = (char) randInt; //casts these integers as characters } }//end add public int[] countLetters() { int[] count = new int[26]; char current; for (int b = 0; b <= 26; b++) { for (int i = 97; i <= 123; i++) { char a = (char) i; for (int ch = 0; ch < charArray.length; ch++) { current = charArray[ch]; if (current == a) { count[b]++; } } } } return count; }

  • Evaluating creation of GUI via file vs coding

    - by nevets1219
    I'm working on a utility that will be used to test the project I'm currently working on. What the utility will do is allow user to provide various inputs and it will sends out requests and provide the response as output. However, at this point the exact format (which input is required and what is optional) has yet to be fleshed out. In addition, coding in Swing is somewhat repetitive since the overall work is simple though this should be the safest route to go as I have more or less full control and every component can be tweaked as I want. I'm considering using a configuration file that's in XML to describe the GUI (at least one part of it) and then coding the event handling part (in addition to validation, etc). The GUI itself shouldn't be too complicated. For each type of request to make there's a tab for the request and within each tab are various inputs. There seems to be quite a few questions about this already but I'm not asking for a 3rd party library to do this. I'm looking to do this myself, since I don't think it'll be too overly complicated (hopefully). My main consideration for using this is re-usability (later on, for other projects) and for simplifying the GUI work. My question is: are there other pros/cons that I'm overlooking? Is it worth the (unknown) time to do this? I've built GUI in VB.NET and with Flex3 before.

  • GWT + JDO + ArrayList

    - by dvieira
    Hi, I'm getting a Null ArrayList in a program i'm developing. For testing purposes I created this really small example that still has the same problem. I already tried diferent Primary Keys, but the problem persists. Any ideas or suggestions? 1-Employee class @PersistenceCapable(identityType = IdentityType.APPLICATION) public class Employee { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) @Extension(vendorName="datanucleus", key="gae.encoded-pk", value="true") private String key; @Persistent private ArrayList<String> nicks; public Employee(ArrayList<String> nicks) { this.setNicks(nicks); } public String getKey() { return key; } public void setNicks(ArrayList<String> nicks) { this.nicks = nicks; } public ArrayList<String> getNicks() { return nicks; } } 2-EmployeeService public class BookServiceImpl extends RemoteServiceServlet implements EmployeeService { public void addEmployee(){ ArrayList<String> nicks = new ArrayList<String>(); nicks.add("name1"); nicks.add("name2"); Employee employee = new Employee(nicks); PersistenceManager pm = PMF.get().getPersistenceManager(); try { pm.makePersistent(employee); } finally { pm.close(); } } /** * @return * @throws NotLoggedInException * @gwt.typeArgs <Employee> */ public Collection<Employee> getEmployees() { PersistenceManager pm = getPersistenceManager(); try { Query q = pm.newQuery("SELECT FROM " + Employee.class.getName()); Collection<Employee> list = pm.detachCopyAll((Collection<Employee>)q.execute()); return list; } finally { pm.close(); } } }

  • Android: Prompt user to save changes when Back button is pressed

    - by chriskopec
    I have an activity that contains several user editable items (an EditText field, RatingBar, etc). I'd like to prompt the user if the back/home button is pressed and changes have been made that have not yet been saved. After reading through the android documentation, it seems like this piece of code should go in the onPause method. I've tried putting an AlertDialog in the onPause however the dialog gets shown and then immediately tears down because nothing is there to block the pause from completing. This is what I've come up with so far: @Override protected void onPause() { super.onPause(); AlertDialog ad = new AlertDialog.Builder(this).setMessage( R.string.rating_exit_message).setTitle( R.string.rating_exit_title).setCancelable(false) .setPositiveButton(android.R.string.ok, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects OK, save changes to db } }).setNeutralButton(android.R.string.cancel, new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { // User selects Cancel, discard all changes } }).show(); } Am I on the right track or is there another way to accomplish what I'm trying to do here? Any help would be great!

  • OPENGL Android getting the coordinates of my image

    - by Debopam
    I used the codes from the following the website. And it helped a lot to draw the required object on my screen. But the problem I am facing is getting the coordinates of my object. Let me explain. According to the code. You just need to add your graphic images in PNG format and refer it to the class here. What I am trying to achieve is a simple collision detection mechanism. I have added a maze (as PNG). And have a object (as PNG) to go through the blank path within the maze. In order to do this I need to know the blank spaces within the coordinates through which my object will move. Can any one tell me how to get the blank spaces as (x,y) coordinates through which I can take my object?

  • Space as grouping separator in printf

    - by blekione
    I know how to use comma in printf as grouping separator to print value in format like 1,000,000.00 to print it that way I'm using command System.out.printf ("%,.2f", value); but how to use space as grouping separator to format value like 1 000 000.00 I tried to find solution but solutions with using DecimalFormat look at now to complicate for me (beginner level). Is there as easy way as in example with comma to do it?

  • SOAP logging axis2

    - by salcin
    Using axis1 it is possible to log incoming/outgoing soap messages by adding logging on HTTPSender in log4j.properties. After migrating to axis2 (version 1.4.1) I have a hard time figuring out how to accomplish the same kind of logging. I have tried to add logging on the axis2 package and org.apache.commons.httpclient but no logging is provided. Any ideas? TIA

  • Beautify Integer values for comparing as strings

    - by Zahra
    Hi. For some reason I need to enter my integer values to database as string, then I want to run a query on them and compare those integers as strings. Is there any way to beautify integer numbers (between 1 and 1 US billion as an example) so I can compare them as strings? Thanks in advance.

  • Force update in Hibernate

    - by gubrutz
    How can I force Hibernate to update an entity instance even if the entity is not dirty? I'm using Hibernate 3.3.2 GA, Hibernate Annotations and Hibernate EntityManager btw. I really want Hibernate to execute the generic UPDATE statement even if no property on the entity has changed. I need this because some event listeners need to get invoked to do some additional work when the application runs for the first time. Thanks!

  • Swing invokeLater never shows up, invokeAndWait throws error. What can I do?

    - by Geo
    I have this code: try { SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { public void run() { try { dialog.handleDownload(); } catch (IOException io) { io.printStackTrace(); } } }); } catch(Exception io) { io.printStackTrace(); } in the handleDownload I'm reading an inputstream, calculating a progress bar's value, and setting it to that. So, when I click a button, a new JFrame opens up and does all the stuff I wrote above. If I have the dialog.handleDownload by itself ( in no SwingUtilities method ), it freezes until the operation is finished. If I add it in a invokeLater it's closed very fast ( I can't see anything, and the operation is not finished ). If I add it in a invokeAndWait I get the invokeAndWait cannot be called from the event dispatcher thread error. What should I do?

  • Log4j Properties in a Custom Place

    - by Azder
    I'm using Apache Commons Logging and SLF4J with log4j, but I also want to use the log4j.properties in a custom place like conf/log4.properties. Here is the problem: If i use PropertyConfigurator.configure("conf/log4j.properties"); then my app is tied to log4j and defets the purpose of having ACL and SLF4J. What is the best way to configure it withouth the app ever knowing what the logging implementation is?

  • Storing Result set into an array

    - by OVERTONE
    i know this should be simpel and im probably staring straight at the problem but once again im stuck and need the help of the code gurus. im trying too take one row from a column in jdbc, and put them in an array. i do this as follows: public void fillContactList() { createConnection(); try { Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(); ResultSet namesList = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT name FROM Users"); try { while (namesList.next()) { contactListNames[1] = namesList.getString(1); System.out.println("" + contactListNames[1]); } } catch(SQLException q) { } conn.commit(); stmt.close(); conn.close(); } catch(SQLException e) { } creatConnection is an already defined method that does what it obviously does. i creat my result set while theres another one, i store the string of that column into an array. then print it out for good measure. too make sure its there. the problem is that its storing the entire column into contactListNames[1] i wanted to make it store column1 row 1 into [1] then column 1 row 2 into [2] i know i could do this with a loop. but i dont know too take only one row at a time from a single column. any ideas? p.s ive read the api, i jsut cant see anything that fits.

  • I love programming but i also want to learn hardware. [closed]

    - by user167082
    I like programming so much, i did it since i was 10, and i believe that studying computer science will make a lot of money as well as i love it. However I also want to learn hardware. I don't only want to do programming all the time without knowing the architecture of device that i program. I asked my teacher, and she said that if I get into computer science, i won't learn anything about hardware, is it true?(She graduated from u-dub) In the other hand, my math teacher told me to get into electrical engineering, since it also contain programming. The thing is that i want to emphasize my study to programming while learning some about hardware. What is major that suits me the best? Can i take some hardware courses if I get into computer science major? Thanks a lot.

  • Modular Inverse and BigInteger division

    - by dano82
    I've been working on the problem of calculating the modular inverse of an large integer i.e. a^-1 mod n. and have been using BigInteger's built in function modInverse to check my work. I've coded the algorithm as shown in The Handbook of Applied Cryptography by Menezes, et al. Unfortunately for me, I do not get the correct outcome for all integers. My thinking is that the line q = a.divide(b) is my problem as the divide function is not well documented (IMO)(my code suffers similarly). Does BigInteger.divide(val) round or truncate? My assumption is truncation since the docs say that it mimics int's behavior. Any other insights are appreciated. This is the code that I have been working with: private static BigInteger modInverse(BigInteger a, BigInteger b) throws ArithmeticException { //make sure a >= b if (a.compareTo(b) < 0) { BigInteger temp = a; a = b; b = temp; } //trivial case: b = 0 => a^-1 = 1 if (b.equals(BigInteger.ZERO)) { return BigInteger.ONE; } //all other cases BigInteger x2 = BigInteger.ONE; BigInteger x1 = BigInteger.ZERO; BigInteger y2 = BigInteger.ZERO; BigInteger y1 = BigInteger.ONE; BigInteger x, y, q, r; while (b.compareTo(BigInteger.ZERO) == 1) { q = a.divide(b); r = a.subtract(q.multiply(b)); x = x2.subtract(q.multiply(x1)); y = y2.subtract(q.multiply(y1)); a = b; b = r; x2 = x1; x1 = x; y2 = y1; y1 = y; } if (!a.equals(BigInteger.ONE)) throw new ArithmeticException("a and n are not coprime"); return x2; }

  • Full and Partial Matching of Sets

    - by jeffrey
    I have several sets of the same type [Y, M, D] and am trying to write a function to search these sets and return an array of the available sets that fit my parameters. ReturnedSets = return_matches(Y,M,D); I want the three parameters of the function return_matches to be optional. Which means any combination of values can be used to return the sets. For example, one could write - return_matches(13,null,2); - and the function would look for all sets that contain [13, anyValue, 2]; I'm writing this in PHP, to allow users to manage dated files on my website, but I'd like to be able to use this function again for other uses. Thanks! edit: (This, or variations of this, is all I can come up with so far... There is something extra that I don't understand, because this function ends up / would not work to return sets that contain y and d, but leaving m arbitrary. if(y == s[0]){ if(m == s[1]){ if(d == s[2]){ print "day match"; } } else {print "month match";} } else {print "year match";} } else {print "no match";}
