  • Good place to start learning Adobe Illustrator CS5

    The question may be off topic for SU, but I couldn't find any better place than this. I've been into designing for a while now, and have learned Photoshop by myself, and currently having fairly good grip in Photoshop CS5. Now due to rising needs, I need to learn Illustrator. I'm aware with the basics of Vector graphics, but haven't worked in designing such. So, suggest me a good place where I can learn Illustrator CS5, from ground up. I headed to Youtube for first start, but I still need an appropriate place where I get to learn it from better tutor. Thanks.

  • Why do some PDFs lag in Adobe Acrobat?

    I have a handful of PDFs open. One of them in particular is extremely laggy, almost to the point of being unreadable. When I scroll through its pages, it's almost like an extreme version of v-sync being turned off. Very choppy. Overall system resources are plentiful, and all of the other PDFs cruise up and down with no stuttering or problems. I've tried closing and reopening the problem PDF to no avail. It's a small PDF, only 3MB in size, with no graphics (only programming code snippets). Surely, it must be some type of problem with the specific PDF (I'll try opening it in another PDF-viewing program, rather than Acrobat X). Possible corruption? Could there be some type of GPU/hardware-acceleration intervening going on? I've never heard of such with PDF-viewing.

  • Changing size of window when testing Adobe AIR mobile applications

    Im making a mobile phone Android application in Flash CS 5.5. I set the width/height of the stage to 480/800 px. When I hit CTRL+ENTER to test run the application I get a window that is 480/800 px. It cannot be resized. I want to change the size of that window WITHOUT changing the stage width/height. For example if I run the APK on a mobile phone with a 1000x1000 display the flash will scale automatically to fit the 480/800 stage to the 1000x1000 screen. So it should be possible to change the window size to 1000x1000 without having to change the stage width/height. But how?

  • Printing Booklet Page Size in Adobe Reader 4-in-1

    So I have a 70 page pdf document that I'm trying to condense to a small booklet. I tried creating a formula to manually to perform it but it got ugly fast. 35,36,34,37,17,54,16,55,33,38,32,39,15,56,14,57,31,40,30,41,13,58,12,59 29,42,28,43,11,60,10,61,27,44,26,45,9,62,8,63,25,46,24,47,7,64,6,65 23,48,22,49,5,66,4,67,21,50,20,51,3,68,2,69,19,52,18,53,1,70 Once I print the booklet I should be able to cut the sheets in half and set the bottom half behind the top and staple it for a simple book. Which means Page 1 should have pages 35,36,17,54,34,37,16,55 Page 2 should have pages 33,38,15,56,32,39,14,57 And several pages later Page 9 should have pages 19,52,1,70,18,53 But manually doing this is a headache and it seems like the booklet function should contain functionality that can perform this. I'm using a commercial Konica Minolta C452

  • Create a PDF that defaults to flip on short edge when printed double-sided

    We're creating a 2-page PDF brochure with a target audience who will print it on their regular office or home printers. If it is printed on a double-sided printer (common in offices), it'll come out correctly if set manually by the user to "Flip on short edge", but will come out with the second page upside down if default settings are used (flip on long edge). Our target audience aren't very tech-literate, and we've found that even within our own office network there is variation in the location of the 'Flip on short edge' setting - so it isn't realistic to give everyone who downloads the PDF instructions on how to change this setting or to expect everyone to find out how to change the setting off their own backs. So, when creating a PDF (ideally using Adobe InDesign or Acrobat, but if other software or hacking is needed that's fine...), is there a way to configure the PDF file itself so that when printed double-sided with default settings, it flips on the short edge? If possible, it'll be useful supplementary info to know how reliable any such methods are across different PDF readers (e.g. Adobe Reader, Acrobat, Mac Preview, inbuilt browser readers (e.g. chrome), FoxIt, etc). If questions about content creation like this aren't a great fit here, feel free to migrate it to the graphic design stackexchange site - this question seems to fall half way between the two sites

    I have an AIR application written in html/javascript and I want to use the Actionscript print functions but I have no experience in Actionscript for AIR. Where do I put the Actionscript code ? Does it go into an mxml file or does it need to be compiled into a Flash application. Where do I put it and how do I include it into the html document ?   • Why is my hg workbench & Adobe Reader toolbar icon a blank white page?

    On my work's PC (windows 7 32bit) all Adobe Reader and hg Workbench icons on the toolbar (and general shortcuts for hg workbench) are just white pages (with the top left corner folded over). If you right click on the toolbar icon then right click on "TortoiseHg Workbench"(for hg workbench) then "Properties" then the "Change Icon..." button is greyed out (same for "Adobe Reader X"). Also the "Target:" is "TortoiseHg 2.4.0 (x86)" and is greyed out also the "Open File Location" is greyed out. This is the same for both Hg Workbench and Adobe Reader and seems to be the only thing that connects them. I have tried reinstalling to no avail. I also have local admin rights on the PC. I finally I have tried the following following questions without any luck (they aren't quite relevant to my issue but close): Adobe Reader program icon and pdf icons don't appear in Windows 7 Adobe PDF icon disappeared? Encase my description isn't enough to understand the issue here is a screenshot. As you can see the Hg Workbench icon (far left) and a pdf open in Adobe Reader X (second icon to from the left) are both blank and the shortcut is mainly greyed out.

    At the company I work at, an employee was let go. His laptop was a company laptop with Photoshop CS3 installed on it. Photoshop was deactivated so it could be installed on another computer. The license was bought online and emailed to someone, however, that computer crashed and the email with the license is lost. Is there a way to recover the license from the laptop? Are we better off contacting Adobe's customer support?

  • How to diagnose cause, fix, or work around Adobe ActiveX / COM related error 0x80004005 progmaticall

    I've built a C# .NET app that uses the Adobe ActiveX control to display a PDF. It relies on a couple DLLs that get shipped with the application. These DLLs interact with the locally installed Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on the machine. This app is being used by some customer already and works great for nearly all users ( I check to see that the local machine is running at least version 9 of either Acrobat or Reader already ). I've found 3 cases where the app returns the error message "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component" when trying to load (when the activex control is loading). I've checked one of these user's machines and he has Acrobat 9 installed and is using it frequently with no problems. It does appear that Acrobat 7 and 8 were installed at one time since there are entries for them in the registry along with Acrobat 9. I can't reproduce this problem locally, so I am not sure exactly which direction to go. The error at the top of the stacktrace is: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component. Some research into this error indicates it is a registry problem. Does anyone have a clue as to how to fix or work around this problem, or determine how to get to the core root of the problem?   • flash cs4: how to convert symbol to flex component?

    Hiya I've read on the net that there is the flex component kit for flash that allows me to convert flash symbol to flex component or container. I tried installing Flex_Skins_12_05.mxp that suppose to enable these features in flash cs4 but under the commands tab i can't see any commands related to flex conversion. can someone please forward me to the appropriate plugin to install in flash cs4 in order to convert it's symbols to be usable with flex ? thanks

    Hi, Does anyone know if it's possible to integrate the ToushSmart's virtual keyboard with an Adobe AIR application? In most programs (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), when a user touches a text field a little keyboard icon automatically pops up which, when pressed, will bring up the virtual keyboard. However, this doesn't happen when clicking on text input fields in Adobe AIR applications. Has anyone had any experience working with AIR/Flash and touchscreens? Is there any API that can tell Windows (or the HP virtual keyboard specifically) that the user has clicked in a text field and that the virtual keyboard should be shown? The text fields are the standard kind (fl.controls.TextInput). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Previously I have used OpenOffice UNO SDK, but I have found some problems with particular documents. Now, the conversion is ok, but the conversion time is huge.   • Install Adobe AIR on Ubuntu/Linux

    Since quite some time Adobe Technologies released the Linux version of Adobe AIR to bring web applications and widgets to your desktop. Installing new applications on a Linux system is not always as easy as switching the computer on. The following instructions might be helpful to install Adobe AIR on any Linux system. First of all, get the latest installer of Adobe AIR from http://get.adobe.com/air/ - as of writing this article the file name is AdobeAIRInstaller.bin. Save the download in your preferred folder. Now, there are two ways to run the installer - visual style or console style. Visual Installation Launch your favorite or standard file manager like thunar or nautilus and browse to the folder where the AdobeAIRInstaller.bin has been saved.
