  • User control or custom control for this design?

    If I want to create a button control like that, is it supposed to be a User Control or a Custom Control? I am not sure maybe something else? Ideally I want to be able style/animate the main button and the inner button separately; also obviously Ill need to process their events separately. These buttons will be created at run-time and Ill need to set the icons dynamically.

  • Problem with the way the Ajax Control Toolkit tab control sets the default submit button

    We have a tab control containing some textboxes for doing a search. When you keypress inside one of the textboxes, the tab control sets the default button to be the button immediately following the tab control. This is fine because that's the search button. The problem occurs after the button is clicked and results returned. Now there is no default button, and keypress does nothing. Any suggestions?

  • Adding a textblock to a custom wpf control (piepiece control from codeplex)

    Hi Stackoverflow! I'm currently building a Surface application where the main navigation is a circular menu. For each menu item I'm using a custom control that I found on codeproject.com: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/PieChartDataBinding.aspx (PiePiece control) The number of submenu items (which is also piepiece controls) comes from a database and thus dynamically loaded. What I can't figure out is how I add a textblock to this custom control to display the submenu item text. It needs to follow the PiePiece's RotationAngle property to line up correctly. Anyone got a hot-fix for this? I was thinking about adding another dependencyproperty to the piepiece custom control, but that way I can't set the font-family, size etc (can I?) Any input on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

    I've written a web user control which I want to be able to drop into the markup for either aspx pages or other web user controls. I need my user control to be able to easily and efficiently work out if its inside another user control or an aspx page. My initial idea is to do it recursively with checks on the Parent property - continue looking up the nesting hierarchy until I find either a web form or a user control - but I'm not sure this the best way of going about this. Can you suggest an easier way? thanks 5arx

  • Adding to page control collection from inside a user control

    I have an asp.net usercontrol which represents a "popup" dialog. Basically, it's a wrapper for the jQuery UI dialog which can be subclassed to easily make dialogs. As part of this control, I need to inject a div into the page the control is used on, either at the very top or very bottom of the form so that when the popup is instantiated, it's parent is changed to this div. This allows "nested" popups without the child popup being trapped inside the parent popup. The trouble is, I can't find a safe way to inject this div into the page. A usercontrol doesn't have a preinit event, so I can't do it there, and calling Page.Form.Controls.Add(...) in Init, Load or PreRender causes the standard exception "The control collection cannot be modified during DataBind, Init, Load, PreRender or Unload phases." I thought I had found a solution by using... ScriptManager.RegisterClientScriptBlock(Page, Me.GetType, UniqueID + "_Dialog_Div", containerDiv, False) ... which seemed to work well normally, but recently a coworker tried putting an UpdatePanel inside the dialog and now she's getting the error "The script tag registered for type 'ASP.controls_order_viewzips_ascx' and key 'ctl00$ContentBody$OViewZips_Dialog_Div' has invalid characters outside of the script tags: . Only properly formatted script tags can be registered." How are you supposed to add controls to the pages control collection from inside a user control?

    Can anyone recommend an iPhone app, for non-jailbroken devices, that can be used to remotely control Windows (7, if it matters) Media Center from outside the home WiFi network? The objective is to be able to connect to the Media Center box during the day when I am not home. For instance, if I realise that the new series of [insert very trendy new show here] is starting tonight and I hadn’t set up a series link I could fire up the app and set my machine to record it.   • (Free?) Hosting Control Panels

    I've installed and used both cPanel and Plesk on my dedicated servers in the past and I truly enjoyed the features and simplicity of cPanel (specially the auto-update feature in WHM), recently (a couple of months ago) I also tried a beta version of the open-source OpenPanel and although it looks really nice I found it kinda limited in terms of features, such as automatic system updates, automatic backups and the ability to add addicional hosts to the MySQL allowed clients list - just to name a few. Besides OpenPanel, I'm aware of Usermin, Webmin, Virtualmin, ISPConfig, VHCS, web-cp and FlexCP - although I've never had the opportunity to try any of them before... Are you familiar and recommend any of these? It's been a while since I managed a dedicated server and I'm wondering what would be a good hosting control panel for me, preferably a free / open-source one that has similar features / usability of cPanel. I appreciate all input, thanks! =)

  • Easy way of engaging non-programmers (i.e. designers) into using version control?

    What are some key ways of getting your team involved in using version control during development, web development or otherwise? I refuse to work without it, which means anyone involved in the project must also use it. It's just good practice. GUIs like Tower have helped, but the concept of it is either met with anger ('not my job!' kinda attitude), timidness, or just straight up not using it (using FTP instead, circumventing version control for say, dev or deployment). Edit: I should have clarified a little that I don't just mean images/PSDs.

    I'm renting a slice (i.e., a VPS) from Slicehost. I've a spent a day or two filling up /usr with my favorite packages, /etc with configs and init scripts, and so on. Now I want to: save this whole setup somewhere (e.g., to load onto another machine). see what changes I've made to which files revert changes, tag revisions, and all that other good version control stuff Saving a disk image gives me (1), but not (2) and (3). Using Subversion (svn import / svn://someotherhost) might give me all three, but I expect problems if I actually try to check a project out into / and maintain .svn directories in root-owned areas. And to load my setup onto a fresh slice, I'd need to install an svn client on it first. Is there a good way to do what I want to do?

  • Need Boxee/Vista remote control recommendations

    I have an Acer Aspire X1200 (specs link below) desktop computer that I've installed Boxee on and it works great. And it looks like it's going to be a perfect computer for a media player. It's small with lots of hard drive space and even has a HDMI output on it. http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/desktop/0000/Acer/AspireX1200/AspireX1200sp2.shtml I also have a Harmony® 880 Advanced Universal Remote (specs link below) that I'd like to use with the Acer computer. www.logitech.com/en-us/440/372 My thought is that I need to get a USB remote control adapter, right? So I did a quick Google search and found products from $5 to hundreds of $$$. Does anyone have recommendations? Things you like/dislike about certain remotes? This Acer is running Vista and has a AMD LIVE!: Athlon X2 dual-core processor. 64 bit some times makes it a little more difficult. Thanks for the help.

    hi. not sure if this is the right place, but hopefully someone might have thoughts on a solution/vendor. Starting to spec out a project that will require multiple (50-100) developers to be able to manipulate source files/scripts for a large scale project. The idea is to be able to have each app go through a dev/review/test process, where the users can select (or be assigned) the role they're going to have for the given app. I'm looking for web-based, version control, issue tracking, user roles/access, workflow functionality, etc... Ideally, the process will also allow for the reviewed/valid app to then be exported to a separate system for testing on the test server/environment. This can be hosted on our servers, or we can do the colo process. I've checked out Alassian/Collabnet, but any thoughts you can provide would me appreciated as well. thanks

  • Remote Control Home PC from Corporate Work PC

    Here is my situation: I am currently on a Windows XP workstation at work. I have an android tablet that I use to splashtop into my home PC. I would like to be able to use my work keyboard and mouse to control my home PC while I am splashtop'd into it using my tablet. My work PC is on a corporate LAN, and not on the same network as my tablet. The company I work for provides wifi for personal devices, but they are not accessable to the internal network. I thought about going the Synergy route, however that would require my home PC to be able to connect to my work PC which isn't really possible. The opposite would work though, if I could reverse connect the server to the client, but the Synergy software doesn't really support that. I do have a couple linux boxes running at home, so I can ssh into my home network and tunnel ports via SSH if needed. With what I have, how can I accomplish seamless keyboard and mouse sharing between my work PC and either my home PC or my android tablet?

  • Code maintenance: To add comments in code or to just leave it to the version control?

    We have been asked to add comments with start tags, end tags, description, solution etc for each change that we make to the code as part of fixing a bug / implementing a CR. My concern is, does this provide any added value? As it is, we have all the details in the Version control history, which will help us to track each and every change? But my leads are insisting on having the comments as a "good" programming practice. One of their argument is when a CR has to be de-scoped/changed, it would be cumbersome if comments are not there. Considering that the changes would be largely in between code, would it really help to add comments for each and every change we make? Shouldn't we leave it to the version control?

    I am looking for an expert programmer to help solve a difficult situation. The interviews so far have been surprisingly disappointing. The best candidate so far is a very experienced programmer who has never used version control software. The problem in itself might not be too serious because it is something which can be learned in a short time. But there is a deeper aspect, which worries me: How is it possible to actively develop software for 10-15 years without ever needing version control? Is the fact itself of not looking for a solution to the problem of tracking changes a sign of a wrong attitude to programming?

    Is there any way to control which hosts are permitted to connect to the cleanup daemon over TCP? Our 'master.cf' contains: 2526 inet n - - - 0 cleanup This is necessary because we have a cluster of SMTP servers running custom code, and they can all inject mail to the centralized postfix server via the cleanup daemon. However, we want to allow only our authorized servers to connect to the cleanup daemon. The current configuration allows any host to connect to port 2526. Clearly we can use iptables to restrict access, but is there a way to do this within postfix itself?

  • Setup Version Control on Dreamweaver

    I have a win computer on the Network called WIN2K8FS1 I have TortoiseSVN on a win computer and when I go to checkout a repository with Tortoise it asks me for the URL of the repository. I put in: file://WIN2K8FS1/Media/SVN_repo And it creates the working copy. I am trying to setup Dreamweaver CS5 to work with subversion. I create a new site and I go to the Version Control tab and it asks for a lot if info. First is Access. I choose Subversion since that is the only option Second is Protocol. Not sure which I need so I go with HTTP? Third is Server Address. I am assuming this is the name of the computer with the repository so I put in \\WIN2K8FS1\ Fourth is Repository Path. I put in /Media/SVN_repo Fifth is Port which I leave default to 80 Then it asks for user name and password. I never set one up for anything so I put in my domain username and password. I click test and it tells me: Server and project are not accessible! I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I am not the server admin but I did create the repository and have access to it via Tortoise. So I am not sure what I am doing wrong in Dreamweaver.

  • Time Machine vs Source Control?

    Finally got convinced to start using some kind of version control for my code instead of zipping down a copy of the project at the end of each day. Downloaded Tortoise SVN and used it to create a repository localy on my hdd. I've been using it for 2 days now but I have to say that using it is actually more hassle than just copying the project manually in explorer. Sure, you only store incremental changes but with the cheap disks of today I can't really say that's an argument when you only have small projects. I haven't realy found a quick way to browse the older versions of my files eighter. What I want is an infinite undo that is completely transparent while I code, if I save the file I want a backup. I don't want to check out, check in and don't even get me started on moving files. I haven't tried Time Machine for OS X but it looks like it's exactly what I'm looking for. Does such a program exist for windows? Preferably free and with some kind of tagging-system so I can tag a timestamp when the project is working etc. Maybe should add that I mostly work alone on a single computer. Update: Some of you asked why I want backup. Since I work alone it's mostly to allow me to quickly hack up a solution without worrying that something will screw up.

When I do 'hg add' for a repo with a .csv and/or .sqlite file, I get a warning like: rev2.sqlite: up to 3070 MB of RAM may be required to manage this file (use 'hg revert rev2.sqlite' to cancel pending addition) So I revert and subsequently use adds like hg add -X *.sqlite. I guess I really have two questions: (1) Should I ignore these warnings? Because these large files are static, can I just add to the repo knowing that the diff files will always be empty and not worry about wasted resources? (2) If I should keep excluding these files from the repo, is there away that I can fix this option? I.E., add to my .hgrc file something that always appends an option like -I *.tex -I *.R to my 'hg add' commands? Thanks!

  • Security Level for WebBrowser control in C#

    I am trying to migrate an .hta application to a C# executable. Of course, since it's an .hta the code is all HTML and Jscript, with calls to local ActiveX objects. I created a C# executable project and am just using the WebBrowser control to display the HTML content. Simply renamed the .hta to an .html and took out the HTA declarations. Everything works great, except that when I make calls to the ActiveX objects, I get a security popup warning of running an ActiveX control on the page. I understand why this is happening since the WebBrowser control is essentially IE and uses the Internet Options security settings, but is there any way to get the WebBrowser control to bypass security popups, or a way to register the executable or DLLs as being trusted without having to change settings in Internet Options? Even a way to do on a deployment package would work as well.

In this article I am going to demonstrate how one can generate various types of charts that can be generated easily using the ASP.Net chart control. Let us recollect the data sample we were working in the previous sample. The following is the data I used in the previous article. id SaleAmount SalesPerson SaleType SaleDate CompletionStatus (%) 1 1000 Jack Development 2010-01-01 100 2 300 Mills Consultancy 2010-04-14 90 3 4000 Mills Development 2010-05-15 80 4 2500 Mike eMarketting 2010-06-15 40 5 1080 Jack Development 2010-07-15 30 6 6500 Mills Consultancy 2010-08-24 65 In this article I am going to demonstrate various graphical reports generated from this data with the help of chart control. The following are the reports I am going to generate 1. Representation of share of Sales by each Sales person. 2. Representation of share of sales data according to sale type 3. Representation of sales progress over time period I am going to demonstrate how to bind the chart control programmatically. In order to facilitate this, I created an aspx page named “SalesAnalysis.Aspx” to my project. In the page I added the following controls 1. Dropdownlist control – with id ddlAnalysisType, user will use this to choose the type of chart they want to see. 2. A Button control – with id btnSubmit , by clicking this button, the chart based on the dropdownlist selection will be shown to the user 3. A label Control – with id lblMessage, to display the message to the user, initially this will ask the user to select an option and click on the button. 4. Chart control – with id chrtAnalysis, by default, I set visible = false so that during the page load the chart will be hidden to the users. The following is the initial output of the page. Generating chart for salesperson share Now from Visual Studio, I have double clicked on the button; it created the event handler btnSubmit_Click. In the button Submit event handler, I am using a switch case to execute the corresponding SQL statement and bind it to the chart control. The below is the code for generating the sales person share chart using a pie chart. The above code produces the following output The steps for creating the above chart can be summarized as follows. You specify a chart area, then a series and bind the chart to some x and y values. That is it. If you want to control the chart size and position, you can set the properties for the ChartArea.Position element. For e.g. in the previous code, after instantiating the chart area, setting the below code will give you a bigger pie chart. c.Position.Width = 100; c.Position.Height = 100; The width and height values are in percentage. In this case the chart will be generated by utilizing all the width and height of the chart object. See the output updated with the width and height set to 100% each. Generate Chart for sales type share Now for generating the chart according to the sales type, you just need to change the SQL query and x and y values of the chart. The Sql query used is “SELECT SUM(saleAmount) amount, SaleType from SalesData group by SaleType” and the X-Value is amount and Y-Values is SaleType. s.XValueMember = "SaleType"; s.YValueMembers = "amount"; After modifying the above code with these, the following output is generated. Generate Chart for sales progress over time period For generating the progress of sale chart against sales amount / period, line chart is the ideal tool. In order to facilitate the line chart, you can use Chart Type as System.Web.UI.DataVisualization.Charting.SeriesChartType.Line. Also we need to retrieve the amount and sales date from the data source. I have used the following query to facilitate this. “SELECT SaleAmount, SaleDate FROM SalesData” The output for the line chart is as follows Now you have seen how easily you can build various types of charts. Chart control is an excellent one that helps you to bring business intelligence to your applications. What I demonstrated in only a small part of what you can do with the chart control.
