• Password expiration notice for Active Directory

  Are there any tools/apps/scripts out there that will do password expiry notification for Windows 2008 Active Directory credentials? This is needed for our web apps that use Active Directory for LDAP authentication. The problem is those apps do not notify you that your password is going to expire when you login. We have many offsite users who do not have machines bound to the AD. So there is no way to let them know to reset their password. I'd like the user to be notified 30,7 and 1 day before it expires. I'd also like our help desk to get an email for the expiring passwords for the week and recently expired passwords. I've looked at oldcmp.exe from link text and that gets me my reports but it does not do the automation that I'm looking for on the individual users.

  Hello All, I have one server 2008 installed with AD, SQL and IIS. Now I am trying to attach different HDD on this server only. I am able to install windows server 2008 r2 64bit on the server, but when I try to install the ActiveDirectory on the server the setup doesn't get completed and keep processing at following level. "Configuring Active directory and local host domains ......." If I attach same HDD on any other PC Active directory setups completes successfully. My server is Xeon quad core with 8GB of RAM. Can any one help the appropriate solution for this?

• Solution to time shifting requirement in Active Directory

  Hi, I currently have an active directory that has several child domains (consisting of nothing other than a DC and bespoke application servers) set-up for testing our CRM software, as some of it is date/time sensitive these have been set to dates in the future at some point in the past, which is causing replication errors. I'm working on getting rid of these child domains, but still have a requirement for our testers to be able to time shift. Does anyone know of any solutions that would allow our test environments to have their time changed (always forward), without affecting the production active directory? Is it as simple as creating a separate Forest on the same LAN or would that interfere with my production Forest? Thanks for any advice.

I also have a Windows 7 virtual machine, which is set to use the Active Directory box as its DNS and WINS server. I'm trying to join the virtual machine to the domain, and I'm asked for authentication. I give authentication, wait a minute, and I get an error saying: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "ad.chigs.me": The network path was not found. How can I fix this so that I'll be able to join the domain?

  Is it possible to restore lost users after Active Directory unistallation ? (I forgot to switch users to local users) The computer run Windows Server 2008 R2 Entreprise, and all the registry linked to the user i want to restore seems to still be there, user's folder is still on the harddrive, and useraccount2 still show the user (But flagged as unknown user) Some folders still have rigts set to this lost user, and even the local default Admin account cannot open/delete the folder. (But the real problem here is to find how to recover users account, the folder can be deleted an other way) All users i want te restore was originaly local users, converted to domain users after Active Directory installation. I think that if i can change user's sid (choosing the sid manually) i'll be able to easily recover rights on folders Regards

  I'm using CwRsync to connect from my Windows development machine to a linux webserver : rsync -avuz -e ./ssh --exclude=".svn" /cygdrive/c/xampp/htdocs/project123/ [email protected]:/home/user123/public_html This syncs my development project directory nicely and fast to the server. But after doing this, all directory properties are reset to the local user 'user123' only, so the website is not available anymore. I need to manually reset those properties. Why is this happening, and how to prevent it? PS. coming from a Windows environment I'm having a really hard time understanding rsync. I copied the above command from some examples... just need to get this one small thing working too...

  We're using WSFTP, which has an Active Directory Integration module. To populate the user accounts you need to provide a connection string akin to: OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com CN=Domain Users,OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com Questions: Is there a Tool/Program/Script/Formula that allows me to decipher how these strings might look based on what I can see in Active Directory Users & Computers? Is there a proper/accepted name for these types of connection strings? I don't even know what to Google to get more information about how to format one properly How would I troubleshoot the connection string if I think it looks correctly formatted, but it isn't working? I have SSL-LDAP setup on the Active Directory to make this happen. Is there any project or code out there that will do this? I've looked at this phpadadmin and I cannot get it to work. I think this is for IIS/php/mySQL Another thing to note is I would like the user to authenticate to change their own password. The product/service should not need a privileged account to run.   The retard who was on the built-in Administrator login somehow (and this is what I'm guessing being as he is not here and I was not present when this occurred - Supposedly it was an "ACCIDENT") Denied the built-in Administrator account and every other account except for his personal one access to our domain - ie "Example.net" not just active directory or anything. I've been trying for literally 2 hours to find some sort of way to take control of the domain through the built-in Admin account with no success; I can't even open Active Directory. I'm not aloud to open DSA.MSC and there's no way for me to take ownership. Any ideas?

  I need to do a 301 redirect with apache since I'm migrating domains. What I would need to do is the following, from certain directories, redirect all of it's content to a different damin (where the file already exists). Let's say I have one.com/files/something.doc or one.com/files/other.php I have already "copied" or "backed up" all the contents of the directory, so the following already exist: two.com/old/files/something.doc and two.com/old/files/other.php So I would just need to redirect anything in the directory "files" (or whatever).   Are there any quality products (ideally open source) that allow me to run an arbitrary SQL query that results in 2 columns (username, group name) and they adds that username in AD to a group of that name in AD? If the username doesn't exist it is ignored. If the group name doesn't exist ideally it gets created. Updated for Clarity: I have a MSSQL based system that is the authoritative source for some of the Active Directory Security groups, and their members. I want to be able to to have those Active Directory Security Groups populated by a one-way sync originating from MSSQL. Sadly the MSSQL based system does not have a good API, so I will have to do this with direct SQL calls. Is there anything that does this well?

• Centrally manage Windows 7 computers without Active Directory

  I manage three Windows PCs at home using the principle of least privilege. This means that practically every other day when a new version of Java is released, I have to manually install the update using my administrative credentials on each machine. This is starting to become more work than I had expected. I would love to set up an active directory domain at home, but Microsoft has discontinued Windows home server; its replacement, Windows server 2012 essentials is much more expensive (about $500). Are there any free (preferably as in speech) that would allow me to centrally manage the software installed on each machine in a manner similar to that of active directory? I'd also like to find a way to centrally manage security settings, but I doubt there's an equivalent of group policy. Samba 4 would be an ideal solution, but according to its own developers, it is not yet stable enough for production use.

  What is the minimum rights required to access the Users directory on another computer via an admin share? I have a batch file that writes some information to a few other computers using a path of \\%COMPUTERNAME%\c$\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming. The batch files run under an unprivileged user (part of Domain Users only). How do I set appropriate rights so that service account can access the AppData\Roaming folder for every user on another computer? I'd like to give rights lower than Local Admin, which I know will work. Things I've attempted: As Domain Admin, attempted to give Modify rights to the C:\Users\ directory on the local computer. Error: Access Denied. Set the service account as Local Admin on the other computer. This works, but is against IT policy where I work. I'd like to accomplish this with rights lower than Local Admin. Any suggestions?

  What I am trying to do is quite complex, so I figured I'd throw it out to a wider audience to see if anyone can find a flaw. What I am trying to do (as an MSP/VAR) is design a solution that will give multiple companies a session based remote desktop (companies that need to be kept completely seperate), using only a handful of servers. This is how I imagine it at the moment: CORE SERVER - Server 2012 Datacentre (All below are HyperV servers) Server1: Cloud-DC01 (Active Directory Domain Services for mycloud.local) Server2: Cloud-EX01 (Exchange Server 2010 running multi tenant mode) Server3: Cloud-SG01 (Remote Desktop Gateway) CORE SERVER 2 - Server 2012 Datacentre (All below are HyperV servers) Server1: Cloud-DC02 (Active Directory Domain Services for mycloud.local) Server2: Cloud-TS01 (Remote Desktop Session Host for Company A) Server3: Cloud-TS02 (Remote Desktop Session Host for Company B) Server4: Cloud-TS03 (Remote Desktop Session Host for Company C) What I thought about doing was setting up each Organisation in their own OU (perhaps creating their OU structure based on the Excahnge 2010 tenant OU structure so the accounts are linked). Each company would get a Remote Desktop Session Host server that would also serve as a file server. This server would be seperated from the rest on its own range. The server Cloud-SG01 would have access to all these networks and route the traffic to the appropriate network when a client connects and authenticated so they are pushed onto the correct server (Based on session collections in 2012). I won't lie this is something I have come up with quite quickly so there may well be something gapingly obvious that I am missing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

How do I create a directory that can archive data in an alphabetical ordering? It also has to be able to sort by letters and other categories.   Hello Guys. I'm investigating using Kohana for my next project. The site will consist of user registration (and hence user profiles) where users will have certain privileges. The site will also have an admin section where administrators can go to say block a user or delete a post or look at usage statistics for example. A good comparison site would be a multi-user blog, where each blogger depending on her/his permissions can post/edit/delete blogs...just as an example. Firstly, I'm not sure about how to set up the controller/view structure in order to separate the admin section from the front facing site. I'm using Kohana 3, so I was thinking of a controller structure like so: application/classes/controller/front (front facing)...and application/classes/controller/admin (for administrative section). Or I notice you may be able to use the Route class to set up routes, so I could set up an "admin" route. for example: www.example.com/admin will lead to the admin logon screen. www.example.com --- front controller. As well, can I somehow separate the "Admin" views and controllers from the "front facing" views and controllers like divide them up based on folder structure? Any help is very much appreciated.   Hello Everyone I would like to know how you set up your projects in Java For example, in my current work-project, a six year old J2EE app with approximately 2 million LoC, we only have one project in Eclipse. The package structure is split into tiers and then domains, so it follows guidelines from Sun/Oracle. A huge ant-script is building different jars out of this one source-folder Personally I think it would be better to have multiple projects, at least for each tier. Recently I was playing around with a projects-structure like this: Domainproject (contains only annotated pojos, needed by all other projects) Datalayer (only persistence) Businesslogic (services) Presenter View This way, it should be easier to exchange components and when using a build tool like Maven I can have everything in a repository so when only working on the frontend I can get the rest as a dependecy in my classpath. Does this makes sense to you? Do you use different approaches and how do they look like? Furthermore I am struggeling how to name my packages/projects correctly. Right now, the above project-structure reflects in the names of the packages, eg. de.myapp.view and it continues with some technical subfolders like internal or interfaces. What I am missing here, and I dont know how to do this properly, is the distinction to a certain domain. When the project gets bigger it would be nice to recognise a particular domain but also the technical details to navigate more easily within the project. This leads to my second question: how do you name your projects and packages?

I am trying to get structure from byte array like this: TdnsQuery* dnsQuery = (TdnsQuery*)buf; When I tried to access qtype like this: printf("%u", dnsQuery->querySection->question.qtype); I get seg fault 11. Can someone help me with these structures? What´s wrong with them? I tried to add structure: typedef struct udpPacket { char header[8]; structr dnsQuery query; } and mapped this structure from byte array but it didn´t help. Can someone help me with these structures? How they should look like for dns query with udp protocol?

  Hi there, I would like to know how can I get certain inputs and put them in more than one row in the structure ... I basically want a structure that updates one input per row in ever loop. The loop is looped 30 times, so I want to have 30 rows and 2 columns ( x and y columns) I have this code : For N=1:30 . . . Binary = bwlabel(blacknwhite); s = regionprops(Binary,'centroid'); centroids = cat(1, s.Centroid); hold(imgca,'on') plot(imgca,centroids(1,1), centroids(1,2),'r*') . . . end I dont think this does what I want ... only the first row is updated in my loop ..
