• Running two different websites domains one one IP address

  Here is my apache configuration file. I have two domain names running on same ip but i want them to point to different webapps. But in this case both point to the one intended for e-yantra.org. If I copy paste akshar.co.in part before E-yantra.org both start pointing to akshar.co.in I have two A DNS entries (one per domain name) pointing to the same IP.   I created new virtual host, but when I try to request it, Apache redirects me to another virtual host. • How to serve Rails application with Passenger/Apache without domain name?

  I am trying to serve a Rails application using Passenger and Apache on a Ubuntu server. • Why is apache serving the default?

• Apache2 Manage Server default

  I'm trying to setup two domains correctly. I have some issues I hope you can help me. Site one's conf: <VirtualHost myipaddress:80> ServerName www.domain1.com ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /home/domain1/public_html </VirtualHost> My other domain conf is: <VirtualHost myipaddress:80> ServerName www.domain2.com ServerAlias *.domain2.com domain2.com ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /home/domain2/public_html </VirtualHost> The default site is disabled. The problem is that when accessing "domain2.com" from my browser, it always redirects to "www.domain1.com". It only works when I excplicitly access "www.domain2.com". I have also other domains like "domain1.net", "domain1.info" pointing to my server but at this moment are not configured either setup on Apache yet I can access from browser and always accessing to "www.domain1.com". By the way is there any possible configuration over Apache to handle IP only, I mean if I type "http://myipaddress/" I get the "www.domain1.com"... Arrgh.

Even when I point new urls to the IP 1.1.1.1, webpages serve from http://ccbbbcc.com. Why is the ccbbbcc.com overriding all my other virtual hosts? Why am I unable to serve pages from /var/www directory? I've made sure to use a2ensite and to restart apache. • Subdomains and address bar

  I have a fairly noob question about how subdomains work. As I understand at first the DNS server specifies that a request for certain subdomain.domain.com has to go to the IP address of domain.com, and the webserver at domain.com further processes the request and displays the needed subdomain page. It is not entirely clear to me how (for example Apache) server does it. As I understand there can be entries in vhosts.conf file which specify folders that contain the subdomain data. Something like: <VirtualHost *> ServerName www.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/httpd/htdocs/ </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *> ServerName subdomain.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/httpd/htdocs/subdomain/ </VirtualHost> and there also can be redirect entries in .htaccess files like rewritecond %{http_host} ^subdomain.domain.com [nc] rewriterule ^(.*)$ http://www.domain.com/subdomain/ [r=301,nc] however in this case the user gets directed to the directory which contains the subdomain data but the user gets "out" of the subdomain. I would like to know - how, when going to subdomain.domain.com the subdomain.domain.com, beginning of address remains visible in the address bar of the explorer? Can it be done by an alternate entry in .htaccess file? If a VirtualHost entry is specified in the vhosts.conf file, does it mean, that a new user account has to be specified for access to this directory?

• Concerns about Apache per-Vhost logging setup

  I'm both senior developer and sysadmin in my company, so i'm trying to deal with the needs of both activities. I've set up our apache box, wich deals with 30-50 domains atm (and hopefully will grow larger) and hosts both production and development sites, with this directory structure: domains/ domains/domain.ext/ #FTPS chroot for user domain.ext domains/domain.ext/public #the DocumentRoot of http://domain.ext domains/domain.ext/logs domains/domain.ext/subdomains/sub.domain.ext domains/domain.ext/subdomains/sub.domain.ext/public #DocumentRoot of http://sub.domain.ext Each domain.ext Vhost runs with his dedicated user and group via mpm-itk, umask being 027, and the logs are stored via a piped sudo command, like this: ErrorLog "| /usr/bin/sudo -u nobody -g domain.ext tee -a domains/domain.ext/logs/sub.domain.ext_error.log" CustomLog "| /usr/bin/sudo -u nobody -g domain.ext tee -a domains/domain.ext/logs/sub.domain.ext_access.log" combined Now, i've read a lot about not letting the logs out of a very restricted directory, but the developers often need to give a quick look to a particular subdomain error log, and i don't really want to give them admin rights to look into /var/logs. Having them available into the ftp account is REALLY handy during development stages. Do you think this setup is viable and safe enough? To me it is apparently looking good, but i'm concerned about 3 security issues: -is the sudo pipe enough to deal with symlink exploits? Any catches i'm missing? -log dos: logs are in the same partition of all domains. got hundreds of gigs, but still, if one get disk-space dos'd, everything will break. Any workaround? Will a short timed logrotate suffice? -file descriptors limits: AFAIK the default limit for Apache on Ubuntu Server is currently 8192, which should be plenty enough to handle 2 log files per subdomain. Is it? Am i missing something? I hope to read some thoughts on the matter!

• Apache virtualhost - only apply script if file does not exist in document root

I'm wondering if it's possible to set up the following non-conventional apache virtualhost (for a Django app): -- If a file exists in the DocumentRoot (/var/www) it will be shown. So if /var/www/foo.html exists, then it can be seen at www.example.com/foo.html. -- If file does not exist, it is served via a virtualhost. I'm using mod_wsgi with a WSGIScriptAlias directive that points to a Django app. So if there is no /var/www/bar.html, www.example.com/bar.html will be passed to the Django app, which may or may not be a 404 error. One option is to create an Alias for each individual file/directory, but people want to be able to post a file without adding an alias, and we want to keep the above URL structure for legacy reasons. Simplified Virtualhost is: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.example.com DocumentRoot /var/www WSGIScriptAlias / /path/to/django.wsgi <Directory /path/to/app> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> Alias /hi.html /var/www/hi.html </VirtualHost> The goal is to have www.example.com/hi.html work as above, without the Alias line

• Running WordPress and Ghost on Apache with mod_proxy

  I currently have three WordPress sites hosted on Apache with virtual host files to direct the right domain to the right DocumentRoot. Ghost (node.js) just came out and I've wanted to tinker with it and just play around on one of my spare domains. I'm not really interested in moving over to nginx so I'm trying to get Ghost working on Apache via mod_proxy. I've managed to get Ghost working on my spare domain, but I think there's a problem with my virtual host files, as all of my other domains start pointing to Ghost as well. Here are two virtual host files, one for my main WordPress site that works fine, and the second for Ghost. Domains removed and replaced with DOMAIN and DOMAIN2. • Accessing Virtual Host from outside LAN

  I'm setting up a web development platform that makes things as easy as possible to write and test all code on my local machine, and sync this with my web server. I setup several virtual hosts so that I can access my projects by typing in "project" instead of "localhost/project" as the URL. I also want to set this up so that I can access my projects from any network. I signed up for a DYNDNS URL that points to my computer's IP address. This worked great from anywhere before I setup the virtual hosts. Now when I try to access my projects by typing in my DYNDNS URL, I get the 403 Forbidden Error message, "You don't have permission to access / on this server." To setup my virtual hosts, I edited two files - hosts in the system32/drivers/etc folder, and httpd-vhosts.conf in the Apache folder of my WAMP installation. In the hosts file, I simply added the server name to associate with 127.0.0.1. I added the following to the http-vhosts.conf file: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www/ladybug" ServerName ladybug ErrorLog "logs/your_own-error.log" CustomLog "logs/your_own-access.log" common </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost DocumentRoot "c:/wamp/www" ServerName localhost ErrorLog "logs/localhost-error.log" CustomLog "logs/localhost-access.log" common </VirtualHost> Any idea why I can't access my projects from typing in my DYNDNS URL? Also, is it possible to setup virtual hosts so that when I type in http://projects from a random computer outside of my network, I access url.dyndns.info/projects (a.k.a. my WAMP projects on my home computer)? • Apache2 VirtualHost on Debian not working

  I am having some problems with Apache2 configuration. I have already tried to look for documentation on the web (Apache's site, Debian's site, here on serverfault, etc), but nothing really helps. The problem is that when i try to type mysite.dev in my browser, it would automatically go to livesite.com. I tried to have different /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/ files (/etc/apache2/sites-enabled/mysite.dev , /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/livesite.com ) - and of course with the actual sites-available related files, but achieving the same results. I have tried to have a peak on error.log and access.log but there's nothing I can see. My httpd.conf contains: AccessFileName .htaccess And I have no /etc/apache2/conf.d/virtual.conf file. Any help would be greatly appreciated - if I did not provide enough info please let me know I will do my best to provide all necessary info. Thanks

• Moving Zend Framework 2 from apache to nginx

  I would like to move site that uses Zend Framework 2 from Apache to Nginx. The problem is that site have 6 modules, and apache handles it by aliases defined in httpd-vhosts.conf, #httpd-vhosts.conf <VirtualHost _default_:443> ServerName localhost:443 Alias /develop/cpanel "C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_cp/public" Alias /develop/docs/tech "C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_tech_docs/public" Alias /develop/docs "C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_docs/public" Alias /develop/auth "C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_auth/public" Alias /develop "C:/webapps/develop/mil_web_dicom_viewer/public" DocumentRoot "C:/webapps/mil_catele_homepage" </VirtualHost> in httpd.conf DocumentRoot is set to C:/webapps. Sites are avialeble at for example localhost/develop/cpanel. Framework handles further routing. In Nginx I was able to make only one site available by specifing root C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_tech_docs/public; in server block. It works only because docs module don't depend on auth like others, and site was at localhost/. In next attempt: root C:/webapps; location /develop/auth { root C:/webapps/develop/mil_catele_auth/public; try_files $uri $uri/ /develop/mil_catele_auth/public/index.php$is_args$args; } Now as I enter localhost/develop/cpanel it gets to correct index.php but can't find any resources (css,js files). I have no Idea why reference paths in browswer's GET requsts changed to https://localhost/css/bootstrap.css form https://localhost/develop/auth/css/bootstrap.css as it was on apache. This root directive seems not working. Nginx handles php by using fastCGI location ~ \.(php|phtml)?$ { fastcgi_pass 127.0.0.1:9000; fastcgi_index index.php; fastcgi_param APPLICATION_ENV production; fastcgi_param SCRIPT_FILENAME $document_root$fastcgi_script_name; include fastcgi_params; } I googled whole day, and found nothing usefull. Can someone help me make this configuration work like on Apache?

• Multi domain on my dedicated server with Apache2

  I'm trying to run symfony on my apache installation (I'm using xampp for the whole package) and it keeps giving me a 403 error every time I try to access my website. When I try to access "servername.localhost" it just gives me a 403 error. I've chmod'd 777 the symfony directory and my website directory in my home directory and used './symfony project:permissions' to let symfony check that permissions are set up correctly but still not result. If I move my website directory into "/opt/lampp/htdocs" then it will serve it from there but still has problems access the symfony stuff such as the debug toolbar. Any help would be appreciated.

If I type localhost in my browser I get the files at E:/wamp2/www/ If I type pplocal.local in my browser I get the files at E:/wam2/www/ instead of those at E:/wamp2/www/pp/ I have followed several tutorials and can't see what I'm doing wrong.   I'm trying to set up a subdomain on my ec2 account but can't figure out what's going on.   I'm trying to configure Apache as an in-network webserver, and am using the sites-available/sites-enabled feature as opposed to just static vhost files. I set up a couple VirtualHosts, all with a unique DocumentRoot, however request for all the VirtualHosts just serve up the "It's Working!" default file. I can't for the life of me figure out why it won't serve the content out of the correct directory. • Attempting to set up xampp and zend server on the same machine

  I am attempting to set up the zend server and xampp on the same machine but I am running into problems. I came across documentation on the zend site that said you cannot do this. However the folks over at apachefriends said you can. I have since discovered that I can run some of the zendframework examples within xampp by downloading the zendframework2 library and the skeleton app from git and I am doing this right now. However, I would like to know how to set them both up without having any conflicts both for the apache2 server and phpmyadmin. (One of the frustrating things is trying to load phpmyadmin in the deployment dialog by using the zpk tool in Zend). What I did in trying to set up both servers on windows 7 is as follows: First I have tried to set up the httpd conf files separately for each server, xampp running on port 8082 , and zend running on port 8088. At the time xampp would work, but zend server would not. This is after setting up the virtual host files separately for each server. Question 1: Where are the zend server error logs? Earlier, I was able to get both of them running configuring the xampp server httpd-conf file alone, however, I experienced problems with phpmyadmin even after configuring phpmyadmin on xampp to work on a different port other than 3306. Second question here: how to set up the two mysql phpmyadmin instances so they do not conflict with each other? • Apache virtual server httpd-vhosts undocumented issue

  I have read the Apache documentation on the https-vhosts.conf file and after a couple of hours fighting this problem, figured it out on my own. Here's the situation: We have a domain that ends in a .ws Apparently you can't do this in the conf file. You MUST use the ? wildcard or it will not work. The * wildcard will not work either. Further, in the ServerAlias directive, anything past the first entry will not work if the first entry in the ServerAlias directive is not correct. Here is an example of an entry that does NOT work. Note that anotherdomain.com and yetanotherdomain.com will fail because thedomain.ws is not configured correctly: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws ServerAlias thedomain.ws another domain.com yetanotherdomain.com <Directory /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain> allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> Here is an example of our working entry: <VirtualHost *:80> DocumentRoot /opt/local/apache2/sites/ourdomain ServerName www.thedomain.ws?   I have a simple test setup using xampp at home, and I am getting really weird behavior when I attempt to set up multiple virtual hosts on this box. • Set up multiple websites on a local web server

  I have spent the last few days setting up a CentOS 6 server on my local network so that I can host multiple projects that I'm currently working on. Everything has been set up so that I access the server by typing 192.168.1.10 and the Apache test page comes up. What I'm aiming to do is to access different projects by typing in 192.168.1.10/project, and then view the project as if it was on it's own standalone server. I have thought about just sticking these sites inside folders on the server then accessing them that way, but a lot of my projects use CakePHP so this isn't feasible. So what I need to do is create VirtualHosts in Apache to allow me to do this, but without using a domain name. I want to stick to using the IP address of the machine (which is static). Any ideas? EDIT I've followed Peter's suggestion, but now I have a new problem. In the httpd.conf file I have entered the following information: NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] DocumentRoot /www/html/project1 ServerName local.project1.com ErrorLog logs/local.project1.com-error_log CustomLog logs/local.project1.com-access_log common </VirtualHost> And now Apache is saying: Starting httpd: Warning: DocumentRoot [/www/html/project1] does not exist When it clearly does exist. I've disabled SELinux and I can confirm this isn't turned on. I've also checked the ownership of the folder, and its owned by root. I can also save files to these folders using a guest FTP account (which isn't associated to root), so the folders are being listed and can be written to. But when I try the folder in a web browser it doesn't seem to work either. I've also done a reboot of the server and the problem persists. What should I change in order to resolve this?

• Graphite not running

  I'm currently trying to install graphite 0.9.9 on a gentoo box using these instructions from the graphite wiki. Essentially, it fronts graphite using apache and mod_wsgi. Everything seems to have gone well, except that apache / the graphite webapp never seem to return a response to the web browser (the browser continuously waits to load the page). I've turned on the graphite debug info, but the only message in the log files is this, repeated over and over again in info.log (with the pid always changing): Thu Feb 23 01:59:38 2012 :: graphite.wsgi - pid 4810 - reloading search index These instructions have worked for me before to set up graphite on an Ubuntu machine.
