  • Running hardware with only 32bit drivers in 64bit windows

    Recently we had to upgrade a system to handle added HD IP cameras. This upgrade involved an entirely new computer build with the exception of a rather pricey Geovision DVR (PCI/GV1480 series). Apparently while these cards do support Windows 7, they do not support Windows 7 x64. I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place here trying to figure out how we can remedy this, is there a virtualization solution that will allow devices with driver issues to passthru to the Guest OS? I was thinking XPMode may work for this solution however I am unsure if it runs 32bit or 64bit and if it'll allow driver-issue devices to pass to it. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Best Regards, Howard

  • Preferred print drivers

    As long as I can remember, the preferred print driver has been PCL5 or PCL6. It seems that PCL5 is going the way of the dodo, and PCL6 has more problems than I care to list here (pcl xl errors). It seems that the most reliable print driver these days is the PS (postscript) driver. Just wondering what everyone elses' experience has been and what kind of driver they prefer?

  • cannot install new drivers for ATI Radeon HD mobility

    I have an ATI mobility Radeon HD 3200 graphics card with a driver that I downloaded from my computer manufacturer's site. I wanted to upgrade the driver so I downloaded the respective driver from ATI and ran the installation. However, the installation only installs the download manager, the App SDK, C++ distributables and CCC, no display driver. When I try opening the CCC, I get an error that quits the CCC, something about the display driver not being recognized. What is wrong here? How do I go about fixing this? thanks

  • Backup drivers for a device in Windows 7

    If I can't find a driver on the internet when I prep for a reinstall of Windows 7, I figure if the driver is already installed, why not back it up and reinstall later? The only method I know of is going through Device Manager Device Properties Driver Details. This gives me a nice list of all the files, but then I need to go manually retrieve all of them. For devices with a lot of driver files, this is inefficient. Is there a better way to accomplish this?

  • No network adapter drivers after Windows re-install

    This is a pretty basic question. I got a PC (Packard Bell Easynote TK11-BZ-010BE) that had linux on it, so I thought, just delete the partition and its alright. Well, it wasn't. I went into grub recovery and couldn't do anything, so I re-installed windows again. Now the problem is that everything works expect my network adapter. When I go to device manager, I get that there aren't any driver's for it installed. But without internet, I can't install the so called driver finders. How should I solve this?

  • Windows 7 removes boot camp drivers on reboot

    I'm installing boot camp on 64 bit windows 7 home premium from a leopard disc. During installation I get a couple of errors saying that some driver publishers are not registered or something and I install them anyway. After reboot windows tries to repair something and reboots again. When I finally log in, there is no boot camp any more. Any ideas how to solve this? Thanks btw, I'm using Macbook Pro 15 inch Santa Rosa (late 2007)

    I have a hard drive which I removed from my HP Laptop and plugged into my Macbook. Windows 7 started well and then installed graphic driver but the others (sound, touchpad) were not recognized by the operating system. What should I do? Edit from OP Sorry for writing here. I don't know why but my account is not associated with this post. First, I have Tiger CD but problem is neigher my Macbook, nor my Desktop PC can read the CD. I have downloaded Driver's from Apple (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL74) but it's not working. I mean, when I double click the exe file, It gets listed in process list int task manager but after 5 seconds, I disappears. But somehow, Windows recognized my audio device and installed its driver. Microphone is ok but red light is on.

  • Detach a filter driver from certain drivers?

    The driver for my laptop's keyboard has a kernel-mode filter driver from Synaptics (SynTP.sys) attached. Is it possible to detach the SynTP.sys filter driver from my keyboard's driver, without detaching it from my Touchpad's driver? This Microsoft Support page explains how to completely disable a filter driver, but my touchpad requires SynTP.sys as well. I'm trying to do this is because the Synaptics driver disables my touchpad when I type. (Explained fully in this question: Use touchpad while "typing"?.) Since I don't have a solution to that problem, I figured removing the filter driver from the keyboard could prevent the Synaptics driver from detecting key strokes, thus stopping it from disabling the touchpad.

  • RCA monitor won't display highest resolution when NVidia drivers are installed

    My computer is a dual-monitor setup. It won't display my second monitor's highest res... In fact, it will only display one resolution. Anything higher or lower makes the monitor not show the screen. I've had this problem with this computer, and I upgraded almost all my components (cpu, RAM, mobo, and video card included) and I still have this problem with my new setup. This leads me to believe it's a problem with my monitor and the NVidia driver together. Any thoughts on what can be done? The manufacturer of the monitor doesn't make a driver for this monitor. I used to run Windows Vista and now my new setup runs Windows 7.

  • Installing drivers from NSIS installer in x64 system.

    I want to add support for x64 OSes to my NSIS installer. One of the installer's task is drivers installation. I've written a special NSIS plugin for this task. This plugin uses Driver Install Frameworks API (DIFxAPI) to install drivers. The problem is that this API does not work in WOW64. Is there any way to create x64 installer application with NSIS? Has anybody solved similar problem with NSIS? P.S.: The only solution I can see now is to run another application from the installer. This will be x64 executable that installs drivers. But this way seems somewhat harder to me. So, I'm interested in other solutions.

  • What is the best way to learn how to develop drivers?

    At some point in my career I would definitely like to get involved in some embedded programming. I was thinking that starting out with developing some drivers would be a good place to develop my abilities in the regard. I'm open to doing so on either windows or linux platform (eventually will want to probably attempt both). What tools would you recommend that I look into to get me started on this project? Any other resources that you have found to be helpful (i.e. books, websites, programs, etc)? Any advice/recommendations? Thanks!

    in Canada, website SSL certificates can be had for as low as US$10. unfortunately, code signing certificates cost about 10 time as much, one website mentions Vista compatibility ... this seems strange because my assumption is they must support XP, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, and Server 2008 or they would be useless. https://secure.ksoftware.net/code_signing.html US$99 Support Platforms Microsoft Authenticode. Sign any Microsoft executable format (32 and 64 bit EXE, DLL, OCX, DLL or any Active X control). Signing hardware drivers is not currently supported. Abode AIR. Sign any Adobe AIR application. Java. Sign any JAR applet Microsoft Office. Sign any MS Office Macro or VBA (Visual Basic for Applications) file. Mozilla. Sign any Mozilla Object file. The implication is that a single code signing certificate can do ALL of the above. ksoftware actually discounts Commodo certificates and the Commode website is unclear. QUESTION: Will ONE code signing certificate be enough or do I need one for Microsoft executables, and a second for things like Word and Excel macros? my main goal is to sign things like vs2008 code snippets so that I can export them securely; however, I would like to be able to use the same code signing certificate for signing other items too. I followed the instructions (or so I thought) and the code signing claims to be done right, however when I try to verify the tool shows an error. I have no idea what it means and no idea how to fix this. Any comments would be appreciated. But after running Windows Update(which finds drivers for the hardware on my laptop), I only had to install a few (the ones with Unidentified Device) I'm wondering if this is good enough? or would I skip some important drivers like Chipset Thermo management etc etc that could potentially cause harm to my laptop?

  • When upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 on a DELL laptop, how do I know which drivers to reinstall an

    According to Dell's upgrade page for Vista to Windows 7, after using the upgrade assistant the final step is to install drivers. They refer to this page for the order of driver installation, listing 9 items. From there I go to the Dell Drivers and Downloads page, enter my system tag, and get a list of the downloads available for my specific box. That page, by the way, has a link to driver install instructions that lists 10 rather than 9 items. Going to Drivers Help in the side panel and clicking on "In what order should drivers be installed?" shows yet a third list, this one containing 13 items. Not surprisingly, the order of these 3 lists of drivers are not quite the same for the common items! Furthermore, of the 26 files Dell's site recommends for my machine, there are several not shown on any of the 3 lists! I can make determinations for some of these: 6 of them are "applications" so I know which of those I want and that they could probably be safely installed after all drivers. BIOS: I would think this should be unaffected by an OS upgrade so could be skipped. Two tools in the diagnostics category: could probably be done after all drivers. That leaves just a CD/DVD driver and a webcam driver unaccounted for. So my two related questions are these: How critical is the driver installation order and which one do I follow? (Keep in mind this is for an upgrade, not a fresh install.) Where in the order do I insert the CD/DVD and the webcam drivers (if needed) ? Dell's driver download page provides (in theory) the list of all downloads relevant to my specific machine, via the service tag. But do I actually need to reinstall all of them? some? none? How does one determine this? They do label each with Recommended or Optional, so do I need to reinstall all the recommended ones? (Part of the reason for my perplexed frown is that I wonder why I would need to reinstall a CD/DVD driver since I would already be using the drive to install the OS!)

  • How do I get Graphics drivers / bluetooth / card reader working on an Acer Aspire V3-571G?

    A couple of days ago I bought an Acer Aspire V3-571G laptop without a system installed on it. The only thing that was there was Linux Linpus. I created a bootable CD with Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit - I read that my processor was 64 bit and that it might be a good configuration for my gear (I'm not especially fluent with all the computer stuff, still trying to learn) and replaced Linpus with Ubuntu. Everything seemed to work fine, but there're few exceptions to that which came pass my way. My bluetooth doesn't work. It seems to be switched on, but when I check my system settings the button is actually off, and I can't drag it 'perminently' to the 'on' position. Tried a couple of commands I found on the net, none of them helped and there was no word whatsoever in my BIOS settings about enabling bluetooth. My card reader has some serious problems with copying more than one file at a time. I tried to put some music on my phone through a MicroSD card adapter (because my bluetooth doesn't work) and it got stuck every single time I copied an album on it.     I was writing a console driver for linux and I came across the tty interface that I need to set up for this driver. I got confused as to how tty drivers are bound with low-level drivers. Many times the root file system already contains a lot of tty devices. I am wondering how low-level devices can bind to one of the existing tty nodes on the root file system. For example, /dev/tty7 : Node on the root file system. How does a low-level device driver connect with this node? Or should that low-level device define a completely new tty device?
