• Dreamweaver 8 Not Starting on Ubuntu 10.04

  I've been trying to start Dreamweaver 8 in Wine with winetricks installed in Ubuntu 10.04LTS and it would simply show that it was loading and then stop, so I decided to try in the terminal to see what I would get and I recieve. wine Dreamweaver.exe err:module:attach_process_dlls "odbc32.dll" failed to initialize, aborting err:module:LdrInitializeThunk Main exe initialization for L"C:\\Program Files\\Macromedia\\Dreamweaver 8\\Dreamweaver.exe" failed, status c0000005 doxramos@doxramos-laptop:~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Macromedia/Dreamweaver 8$ odbc32.dll is installed within the libraries and is in my System32 Folder inside of Wine. Does anyone know what could cause this issue? Thanks in advance.

• Does having a Google "stop word" in a domain name have less SEO benefit than not having it?

  Let me explain. Let's say my keyword I want to optimize is "green giraffes". But the domain greengiraffes.com (singular, plural, no hyphen, hyphen, etc.) is not available. I know that the search results for "green giraffes" and "about green giraffes" are essentially the same because "about" is a "stop word". Does that therefore also mean that the domain name "aboutgreengiraffes.com" is as good as "greengiraffes.com" in terms of SEO value? Are all stop words equal in that regard, or a shorter one (such as "e" or "z") is better?

• New Date for Implementation of Sun Hands-On Course Requirement

  As announced on the Oracle Certification website, Java Architect, Java Developer, Solaris System Administrator and Solaris Security Administrator certification tracks will include a new mandatory course attendance requirement. Because of unforeseen disaster and subsequent recovery efforts underway in Japan, Oracle has extended the start date of this new requirement to October 1, 2011. Candidates may earn their certifications using the current track requirements (found on the Oracle Certification website) through September 30, 2011.

  Windows 7 with 1gb RAM Hi. I am installing Ubuntu 12 onto a 20gb ext3 partition. I have 100gb free disk space. The install asked me to choose a swap space. Do I have to allocate another partition for the swap space, and if so, what size should it be? I installed without allocating a swap space. Can I allocate a swap space after the install? The install asked me for a mount point. I chose /. Is this okay? I also want to ensure that GRUB2 will be installed within the UBUNTU partition. Is there an option for this on the install? • Should I force users to update an application?

  I'm writing an application for a medium sized company that will be used by about 90% of our employees and our clients. In planning for the future we decided to add functionality that will verify that the version of the program that is running is a version that we still support. Currently the application will forcequit if the version is not among our supported versions. Here is my concern. Hypothetically, in version 2.0.0.1 method "A" crashes and burns in glorious fashion and method "B" works just fine. We release 2.0.0.2 to fix method A and deprecate version 0.1. Now if someone is running 0.1 to use method B they will be forced to update to fix something that isn't an issue for them right now. My question is, will the time saved not troubleshooting old, unsupported versions outweigh the cost in usability?

• Ubuntu user expectations from 12.04 and future releases

  How much further ahead is 12.10 vs 12.04 in respect to kernel updates and applications? Example: Gimp's newest release is 2.8 which runs equally as well in both 12.04 and 12.10 and probably will in 13.04. What restricts 12.04 from having "the same" look, feel, applications and kernel as 12.10 or the upcoming 13.04? I know that it's more than a name change.....it's whats under the hood that counts. Incrementally upgrading, I feel is safer than radical changes from release to release. Trying to keep a stable desktop and current user experience, how far can I take updating applications before I absolutely have to make a distro upgrade from 12.04LTS

• 12.04 LTS Apache2 writing files from webpage at runtime has no effect - possible read/write permissions?

  I'm running 12.04LTS with Apache and Mono in VirtualBox, with the goal of hosting a web app (coded in ASP.NET and C#) on my local network. The scripts on the page are able to successfully read from text files in the same directory as my site (/var/www/mysite/) but do not seem to be able to write. I'm sure the code works, because it did with my testing in Visual Web Developer on Windows. I don't get any errors, but when I click the button on the loaded webpage, the text file in question does not change. I'm fairly new to Linux in general, so I'm not too familiar with how to set permissions properly, and it may be a permissions issue. Unfortunately, I have searched all over the internet and haven't found a solution that worked, but I've tried (perhaps incorrectly) changing the owner of the files in question to www-root, changing the mode to a+rw, but sadly to no avail. I have tried everything here but it doesn't work: Whats the simplest way to edit and add files to "/var/www"? I hope someone can help me out.

• Best Practise for Writing a POS System

  Hi, I'm putting together a basic POS system in C# that needs to print to a receipt printer and open a cash drawer. Do I have to use the Microsoft Point of Service SDK? I've been playing around with printing to my Samsung printer using the Windows driver that came with it, and it seems to work great. I assume though that other printers may not come with Windows drivers and then I would be stuck? Or would I be able to simply use the Generic/Text Driver to print to any printer that supports it? For the cash drawer I would need to send codes directly to the COM port which is fine with me, if it saves me the hassle of helping clients setup OPOS drivers on there systems. Am I going down the wrong path here? Thanks, Gary

  Hello, Just learning Python and trying to do a nested for loop. What I'd like to do in the end is place a bunch of email addresses in a file and have this script find the info, like the sending IP of mail ID. For now i'm testing it on my /var/log/auth.log file Here is my code so far: #!/usr/bin/python # this section puts emails from file(SpamEmail) in to a array(array) in_file = open("testFile", "r") array = in_file.readlines() in_file.close() # this section opens and reads the target file, in this case 'auth.log' log = open("/var/log/auth.log", "r") auth = log.readlines() for email in array: print "Searching for " +email, for line in auth: if line.find(email) > -1: about = line.split() print about[0], print Inside 'testfile' I have the word 'disconnect' cause I know it's in the auth.log file. It just doesn't find the word 'disconnect'. In the line of "if line.find(email) -1:" i can replace email and put "disconnect" the scripts finds it fine. Any idea? Thanks in advance. Gary

• unwanted quote marks in output from printf

  I have some address data which has been exported from a database. If the address had multiple lines, the exported data has joined all the lines into one string with the former lines being separated by dollars signs. Here's one of the addresses: INFORMATION DELIVERY DEPT$704 CHERRY ST$ATLANTA, GA 30332-0900 I'm splitting this into an array on the dollar sign and outputting the three array elements into separate tab-separated fields with printf. For some reason, it comes out like this: INFORMATION DELIVERY DEPT 704 CHERRY ST "ATLANTA, GA 30332-0900" I don't want the quotes around that final field. Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to suppress it? This is being done in Windows Vista with gawk3.1.6. Thanks! gary

• Finding new IP in a file

  Hello. I have a file of IP addresses called "IPs". When I parse a new IP from my logs, I'd like to see if the new IP is already in file IPs, before I add it. I know how to add the new IP to the file, but I'm having trouble seeing if the new IP is already in the file. !/usr/bin/python from IPy import IP IP = IP('192.168.1.2') f=open(IP('IPs', 'r')) #This line doesn't work f=open('IPs', 'r') # this one doesn't work for line in f: if IP == line: print "Found " +IP +" before" f.close() In the file "IPs", each IP address is on it's own line.   Greetings! I have this question. Whenever, I enter a transformation (gltranslate, glrotate, glscale) within a display list, the transformation remains as a command within the display list. Everytime the display list is rendered, it will calculate all and over again. Is there a way, I can make an opengl transformation and the transformed vertex coordinates be stored permanently in a display list instead of transformation & intial coordinates? • Generate texture for a heightmap

  I've recently been trying to blend multiple textures based on the height at different points in a heightmap. However i've been getting poor results. I decided to backtrack and just attempt to recreate one single texture from an SDL_Surface (i'm using SDL) and just send that into opengl. I'll put my code for creating the texture and reading the colour values.   I am basically trying to create a small registration form. If the username is already taken, I want to add the 'red' class, if not then 'green'. The PHP here works fine, and returns either a "YES" or "NO" to determine whether it's ok. • jQuery UI - addClass removeClass - CSS values are stuck

  Hi, I'm trying to do a simple animation. You show the div. It animates correctly. You hide the div. Correct. You show the div again. It shows but there is no animation. It is stuck at the value of when you first interrupted it. So somehow the interpolation CSS that is happening during [add|remove]Class is getting stuck there. The second time around, the [add|remove]Class is actually running, but the css it's setting from the class is getting ignored (I think being overshadowed). How can I fix this WITHOUT resorting to .animate and hard-coded style values? The whole point was to put the animation end point in a css class. Can anyone give me some light here? How can I improve this code?

• SQL Joing on a one-to-many relationship

  Ok, here was my original question; Table one contains ID|Name 1 Mary 2 John Table two contains ID|Color 1 Red 2 Blue 2 Green 2 Black I want to end up with is ID|Name|Red|Blue|Green|Black 1 Mary Y Y 2 John Y Y Y It seems that because there are 11 unique values for color and 1000's upon 1000's of records in table one that there is no 'good' way to do this. So, two other questions. Is there an efficient way to get this result? I can then create a crosstab in my application to get the desired result. ID|Name|Color 1 Mary Red 1 Mary Blue 2 John Blue 2 John Green 2 John Black If I wanted to limit the number of records returned how could I do something like this? Where ((color='blue') AND (color<>'red' OR color<>'green')) So using the above example I would then get back ID|Name|Color 1 Mary Blue 2 John Blue 2 John Black I connect to Visual FoxPro tables via ADODB.
