• Installer says I'd need a wireless firmware, but WLAN works without it out of the box

  While installing 12.04.01 (Alternate) on a netbook (Samsung N150Plus), Ubuntu informed me that I'd need the firmware brcm/bcm43xx-0.fw. I skipped this step. If I understand this page correctly, the mentioned firmware is a WLAN driver. However, after the Ubuntu installation was completed, the WLAN worked out of the box. After a few minutes, Ubuntu informed me that there is a firmware update available, which would be the mentioned firmware. Do I need to install this? Is Ubuntu using some kind of "lite" WLAN driver and I might run into problems with certain networks in the future, if I don't use the firmware? Would there be benefits in using the firmware? (maybe longer runtime because of lower consumption?)

  I have done several hours of searching and I am still looking for a few USB wifi adaptors that run in 12.04 with no additional driver installations or other fiddling. I am looking to plug in the adaptor and have the laptop recognize and start connecting. We have 30 older laptops with flaky internal wifi cards so I thought that if I could find a $10-$20 USB adaptor that work reliably in 12.04 I could plug it in and solve all my connectivity problems for a few hundred dollars.

• Bridging 10GbE with 12.04 - bridging works but the bridging computer has no internet access

  I have been trying to get 12.04 bridging working with two 10GbE cards. I have 2 10GbE cards in a linux box being used only for this bridge, 1 with 2 10GbaseT ports and another with a single CX4 port. I have 2 client computers connected with 10GbaseT cards and the CX4 card connects to a procurve switch. I can get the bridging happening mostly the way that I want, The clients receive dhcp information from the dhcp server (not the bridging machine) and can connect to and properly see the rest of the network. Speeds are ok, not amazing but working on that is another matter. My problem is that the bridging machine has no internet access ... meaning I can't update anything or apt-get anything It can ping all other machines on the local network. I've tried the helpful hints from: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NetworkConnectionBridge "Enabling Internet Use on the Bridging Computer" and get the following RTNETLINK answers: File exists but dhclient br0 does nothing for me :( I think if it is anything it a multiple route problem as both br0 and eth4 have ipaddresses ... even though I have only set it up so that br0 has one ... • Dreamweaver CS5 Test server works but cannot connect to host server through files window

  I've been managing this site for a long time and update coupons on it approximately every 60 days. For some reason, I'm not having problems: I opened DW CS5 today and made the changes necessary to update coupons. I was able to connect to the host server with no problem but most of my coupon images were not showing up. DW tells me I have 70 broken links, which can't be the case because I've reviewed them. Some links work and are the same as the broken links other than the file name. Unable to figure it out, I thought maybe restarting my Mac would help. However, upon logging back into DW, I am now unable to connect to the host server. I get an FTP error notice that the file doesn't exist or there is a permissions problem. Funny thing is, I can connect successfully if I test the connection through the Site Management window. I have connected to my host server through FileZilla and see all the files there, unfortunately, I still can't get the web pages to display the coupons. Has anyone else had this issue and if so, what is the solution? I feel like this is probably a simple fix, but I cannot for the life of me determine what it is! If anyone knows a solution, I'd really appreciate the help! -Toni

• mod_rewrite works within directory not on root

  I am having problem in my RewriteRule for the tags portion. What I am able to debug is that the rule is been triggered at least because the page "tags.php" is been rendered but without the URL parameters. • Bluetooth pairing works in 10.10 but not in 11.04

  My laptop, a Compaq Presario V2000, has a built-in Bluetooth module that has worked well since at least Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I use it to pair with headphones and a mouse. These both worked great in Ubuntu 10.10 (and still do with a live CD) but I cannot pair to any Bluetooth device in Ubuntu 11.04, even from a live CD. I can see the Bluetooth module in lspci and when I try to set up a new device from the Bluetooth indicator my computer detects all Bluetooth devices around me but pairing always fails. At the moment I'm most concerned with getting my Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 paired. The main consideration of the system is to update the database records of all active auctions (max 15 auctions) with the current ticker timer. I am seeking for advice on how i should design the system where every auction item will have a its own countdown timer stored in the database and when someone bids the auction item, the counter resets to 2 min. Every users who are connected to the system should see the same countdown timer for that particular auction. I am little confused on how i should design the system. Will there be a performance issue when there are frequent updates to the database (Mysql) where 15 active auctions are updated every seconds, the countdown timer decreases by a second in the database table for the particular auction. To sample the cubemap I compute the 3d reflection vector in a classic way: half3 ReflectionVec = reflect(-directionToCamera, Normal.rgb); I then use the vector to get the actual reflected color: half3 ReflectionCol = texCUBElod(ReflectionSampler, float4(ReflectionVec, 0)); The cubemap I am sampling from is a RenderTarget with 6 flat faces. So my question is, given the 3d world position of an arbitrary 3d object, how can I make sure that I get accurate reflections of this object, when I re-render the cubemap. Should I build the ViewProjection matrix in a specific way? Or is there any other approach?

  I have an issue that when I try to write pipe sign "|" and space after that, I sometimes get wrong type of space (\240) and my command fails. This issue persists on different shells. • Every function key on laptop works except for brightness

  I have an Asus UX21A, and I'm pleased to discover that almost all the hardware functions and features work perfectly with Ubuntu 12.10. The only thing that is not working straight "out of the box" are the brightness keys. In theory, the screen brightness can be adjusted downward by pressing fn+f5, and adjusted upward by pressing fn+f6. Is there a way I can connect the monitor brightness settings to these function keys?

• Gnome 3 and compiz, everything works except Explode and Leaf Spread animations

  I am using 11.10 with Gnome 3, I have installed Compiz, and have got it functioning almost how I want it. I want my windows to Leaf Spread, which seems to work fine for a few minutes after I enable it and restart my machine. However, over the time of a few window closes, I notice that the objects are not showing up little by little until the Leaf Spread just doesn't show at all? This really isn't a big deal, but I'd like things to work properly. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I've had ubuntu on this laptop since 10.04 and haven't had any real problems. so i restarted my computer today and none of the unity desktop background showed up only the desktop with the files on it so i brought up the terminal and entered in unity -replace and restarted it and it came back up fine except that i noticed that my panel only had mail, volume, date/time, and power icons no wireless or bluetooth, i tried a couple of approaches to try and get it working again i tried nm-applet --sm-disable and it brought up a warning message, i'm not very skilled in code even though i've had ubuntu for four years but in the past versions it wasn't too big a problem

• flashplugin installer works for firefox but not chromium-browser

  I'm on Ubuntu precise (12.04.5 LTS) and I do have flashplugin-installer installed. When I click on flash videos in chromium-browser I get "An error occurred, please try again later". In firefox they display fine. I opened chrome://plugins to see if the flash plugin is installed and indeed it's not listed. Also http://www.codegeek.net/flash-version.php displays: "You do not have Flash player installed", while with firefox it says: You have Flash player 11.2.202 installed. Following some instructions on some ubuntu page I copied the plugin using sudo cp /usr/lib/flashplugin-installer/libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/chromium-browser/plugins/ and I started chromium using chromium-browser --enable-plugins but this didn't help. chrome://chrome/ says: Version 36.0.1985.125 Ubuntu 12.04 (283153). what else can I try?

The problem As stated in the topic I cannot navigate in the GRUB menu using mentioned keyboard (there is no problem when I use Logitech K360). I have tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports. I cannot enter BIOS menu as well, however if I enter it using other keyboard, Roccat seems to work and I can navigate in the BIOS menu without any issues. Any ideas how can I fix that problem?

• Key binding in Compiz no longer works

  I have a key binding set in CompizConfig settings manager that runs this command: sleep .5 && xset -display :0.0 dpms force off I have it attached to Super+~. It's worked fine for years. Now, suddenly, it stopped working. When I open CompizConfig the key binding is blank. I set it again, close CompizConfig, and it doesn't work. So I open CompizConfig again, and the key binding is blank again. It won't save what I set it to. How do I get my key binding and command to work, and stay working.

• Accidentally deleted /etc/X11/xorg.conf.original, and now login no longer works

  I accidentally deleted xorg.conf.original-0; xorg.conf.fglrx xorg.conf.fglrx-0-1, after I tried to install fglrx drivers on the graphics card, which in fact worked on 13.04 and now as I went to 13.10 has not worked. Now I can just switch to a new TTY with: Ctrl + Alt + F2 I found this which is for nVidia cards TO install the fglrx drivers for graphic card I used this tutorial Is there any possibility that I can recover, replace, rebuilb that xorg.conf.original-0, and if exists any possibility where I could start from.
