• lightspark in Firefox doesn't show up

  I have installed LightSpark Flash Player alternative from what is called the official PPA: https://launchpad.net/~sparkers/+archive/ppa (I mean, I added this repository and then sudo apt-get install lightspark). But Firefox doesn't feel it. It looks exacly like when I hadn't installed LightSpark. In "Firefox - Addons - Plugins" there is no new entry. What should I do to really use Lightspark after installing it?

• Problem upgrading 11.04

  I've been testing out the new WebUpd8 PPA for Rhythmbox which I used to upgrade from Rhythmbox v2.97 to v2.98. However, when I added this PPA, when using my favourite plugins replaygain and coverart-browser, Rhythmbox crashes with a segmentation fault. Worse, when this crash happens, my Unity desktop becomes unstable, with various applications failing to start with similar segmentation faults. Does anybody know the reason for this - but more importantly how to resolve this?

• How to work around blocked outbound hkp port for apt keys

  I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and need to add some apt repositories. Under 9.10 we now have the option to do this: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nvidia-vdpau/ppa See this Ubuntu help article for details. This is great, except that I'm running this on a workstation behind a firewall which blocks outbound connections to pretty much all ports except those required by secretaries running Windows and IE. The port in question here is the hkp service, port 11371. There appear to be ways to manually download keys and install them on apt's keyring. There may even be a way to use add-apt-repository or wget or something to download a key from an alternative server making it available on port 80. However, I haven't yet found a concise set of steps for doing so. What I'm looking for is: How to find a public key for an apt-package (recommendations for resources which have these, and/or tips for searching. Searching for the key hash doesn't seem all that effective so far.) How to retrieve a key (can it be done automatically using gpg or add-apt-repository?) • Laptop with Intel Graphics: external VGA monitor only gets signal on boot (no "hot plugging")

  I am able to get an external VGA monitor (or projector) to work if I start my laptop with it connected. However, if I start the laptop with it disconnected there is no signal on the external. The Displays screen shows the external, and thinks that it is active, but there is no signal being sent to it. This has been a persistent problem since 10.04 (I am now on 12.04.... each upgrade hoping something is improved). I should note that even when it works (starting with display connected), Displays still says the monitor is "unknown" (but it sends the signal). For the correct resolution to display, I have had to add a few xrandr lines for my monitor to my .xprofile file... otherwise resolution is limited to default 1024x768. So, resolution issues can be worked around, but the main issue is that the external doesn't get a signal without starting the machine with it connected. • Second monitor not detected

  Note: I've seen this question quite a lot, but in all the cases I could find with answers, the answer was either "I don't know" or "use nvidia-settings (which is irrelevant to me)." I'm using Intel Sandybridge Desktop graphics, with a P8H61-M LE motherboard. How do I get Ubuntu to detect my second monitor? Clicking "Detect Displays" here doesn't do anything. • Adding Thunderbird-stable repository gives "can't find signing_key_fingerprint" error

  I'm trying to install Thunderbird 11 on Kubuntu 10.04. I was able to do it on the machine I'm working on. To get a clean process that I can roll out to other clients, I re-installed the machine and repeated the process. This is what I did (I've left out the sudo for clarity): add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-mozilla-security/ppa apt-get update add-apt-repository ppa:mozilla-team/thunderbird-stable The last one resulted in this error: Error: can't find signing_key_fingerprint at https://launchpad.net/api/1.0/~mozilla-team/+archive/thunderbird-stable The machine as it was before re-installation gave no such message. It was built from the same sources. Bottomline: I got Thunderbird 11.0 to run on Kubuntu 10.04 but after re-installation, adding the repository gives an error and won't add. Is there a way to solve the signing_key_fingerprint error?

  I'm a complete Linux newbie. I've just upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04 LTS and all sorts of things have started to go wrong. One main problem is the fact that I can't add repos. However, if I put only number without M or G unit, it will start and run. By default, if put only number, what unit is it means? It I put 3000 does it means 3000 MB?

  I get the following error while openning a .xls file in Libreoffice Calc, Ubuntu 12.04 [LibreOffice 3.5.5.2; Build ID: 350m 1 (Build:2)] To overcome this I checked the LibreOffice Security Level to Low under Macro Security (from Tools---- Options--- Security tab. Then I went ahead intalling java by running the following commands from the terminal window (with some tips from various forums) sudo add-apt-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libreoffice libreoffice-java-common libreoffice-math libreoffice-gnome libreoffice-java-common Still I got the BASIC runtime error (as in the title), even after clicking Tools---- Options ---- Java and checking the 'Use a Java runtime environment option' and then clicking on 'Sun Microsystems Inc' under listed JRE environments installed. Even I ran the following commands to install latest Java run time environments from terminal window sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jre icedtea-7-plugin But still I get the same Basicruntime error (details as in the title bar). This particular file opens perfectly in Microsoft Excel 2007, in Win XP Professional.
