    I've been using a service by unblock-us.com, which provides a proxy to Canadians/others allowing access to services that are locked down to only US ip addresses. This is easy enough to achieve by setting up a reverse proxy (eg: squid) on a US-hosted server, and then configuring your browser or OS to use that proxy. However, there is something that unblock-us does that I'm not sure how to duplicate. Rather than configuring your OS to use them as a proxy, you can simply change the DNS Server settings on your router to point to their addresses. Any requests to services they support are automatically proxied. The advantage to this is that you don't have to set up every computer in your house, and it "just works" with clients like ps3, xbox, android, etc. Disadvantage is you really don't have control over what gets proxied, as well as there are privacy concerns I suppose. How can I achieve this same functionality on my own us-based slice?

  • Disable/enable the proxy on a tab by tab basis in Firefox

    Is it possible to disable/enable the proxy connection on a tab-by-tab basis in Firefox? I can access the internet with the proxy enabled, and I can access our internal servers with the proxy disabled, but neither configuration allows the other. I have a feeling that Firefox 4's per tab profiles may permit this, but was wondering whether there was a way to achieve this on Firefox 3.6.13, perhaps through the use of an extension. For the moment I'm making do with quickProxy (not QuickProxy which I've just discovered while trying to find quickProxy) which allows me to switch the proxy on and off for the whole browser, but would prefer something more fine-grained.

    I have succeeded in installing Diaspora* on my subdomain diaspora.mattaydin.com. I have VPS running CentOS 5.7 with Plesk installed. With this configuration domain.com/intranet works correctly and we can access to intranet, but we have one problem when from domain.com/intranet we need to use another internal application that is called from intranet with absolute path ( https://192.168.10.25/application/) and from internet appears that try to access with internal ip, and this link es incorrect from external site We only need to access from intranet to multiple internal application that are in external server and we like to restrict to minimal access from internet. All the application that are in the smae server of intranet are working. The second problem is with https and reverse proxy in our firewall appears some errors with packets (not valid packets), and with https seems to work. What can I do to solve this problems (absolute path and ssl problem) Thanks

    I been using privoxy just fine for the moment. However now i need to redirect non http traffic through a proxy that supports SOCK5. I looked at RINETD and spent some time googling (which led me to a SF question suggesting RINETD) but i couldnt figure out how to make it work. Specifically how to give it a listening port for my .NET apps to connect to and the SOCK5 proxy addr/port to connect to (.NET does not support using SOCK5 which is why i need a proxy). What is a simple to use proxy on windows? It must support TCP traffic (instead of only http) and supports SOCK5. -edit- portable solution preferred. I should be able to run it on my usb stick under a limited user.

    I know what proxy is (very high level), it's just I have never set up one, and it feels like I might be missing some big fat point here. My setup: client server (static IP), runs apache on port 80 proxy (has 2 network cards, one is on the clients network, the other one with a static IP on the server network), runs apache on port 80 I am trying to configure these three machines so that when client requests: http://proxy/machine1 It gets served server's pages at server root URL, i.e. http://server/ I can access client pages just fine. However, when I try accessing a page from the client machine, it simply gets redirected to server's IP address, which it clearly can't access since they are not on the same network: ... <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://server/machine1"></meta> <title>Redirect</title> ...   • Apache Reverse Proxy server and SSL NTLM SharePoint

    Hi, I'm trying to set Apache as proxy server to an internal SharePoint server. I have previously configured Apache to run as a proxy server to export internal webpages and web applications. However, the Sharepoint is using SSL and NTLM authentication, and this is new to me :( I have tried many options, the traffic seems to be forwared as I get the authentication popup window, but when I insert the user/pass, I get back to the same popup window. Anybody has configured Apache to do so?     (On Mac OS X 10.6, Apache 2.2.11) Following the oft-repeated googled advice, I've set up mod_proxy on my Mac to act as a forward proxy for http requests. My httpd.conf contains this: <IfModule mod_proxy> ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Allow from all </Proxy> (Yes, I realize that's not ideal, but I'm behind a firewall trying to figure out why the thing doesn't work at all) So, when I point my browser's proxy settings to the local server (ip_address:80), here's what happens: I browse to http://www.cnn.com I see via sniffer that this is sent to Apache on the Mac Apache responds with its default home page ("It works!" is all this page says) So... Apache is not doing as expected -- it is not forwarding my browser's request out onto the Internet to cnn. Nothing in the logfile indicates an error or problem, and Apache returns a 200 header to the browser. Clearly there is some very basic configuration step I'm not understanding... but what?

    I am deploying an application and a Wordpress installation on AWS. I have Wordpress set up under Apache on an EC2, and my application under Lighttpd, and I want to reverse-proxy Wordpress through the application node. This works fine, I just set up the reverse proxy in Lighttpd as so: $HTTP["url"] =~ "^/blog" { proxy.server = ( "/blog" => ( "blog" => ( "host" => "123.456.789.123", "port" => 80 )) ) } url.rewrite-once = ( "^(.*?)$" => "/index.php/$1" ) However, the issue is in the rewrite. When I enable rewriting, it catches it before the reverse proxy, and routes to index.php on the application server. I need it to not rewrite if it's going to the blog. I tried various regex matches and other configurations, but I haven't been able to get it to support rewriting and proxying at the same time. How can this be done?

    I have a CentOS VM running in Virtualbox on a Windows 7 host (all 64-bit). I have configured the proxy in the System menu and have added the proxy=http://my.proxy.com:12345 line to my /etc/yum.conf file. I am able to connect to the internet from a browser, and I can update packages form the update manager and install them from the package manager. However, I cannot use yum for anything. When I attempt to use yum (install, update, upgrade, or anything else), It attempts to connect to the mirrors, does nothing, then after a minute or so, quits. Does anyone know how to configure yum to work behind a proxy?

    I have set up a Ubuntu PC on a next work that is behind a ISA Proxy. When I run the command sudo apt-get update I get several messages with this message: 502 Proxy Error (The ISA Sever denied the specified Uniform Resource Locator) The computer can see the internet and adding the proxy settings in the Network Preferences does not help. When I do a ifconfig Im on a 192 address which is not the usual subnet our PCs are on. Any ideas?

I like to configure with this system for security reason, and only allow external access to one server. I have configured With Debian Squeeze and apache 2.2 It is possible? How?

    I have a backend server running on http://10.0.2.20/ from the local network, which serves similar to this: / (root) | |_user1/ | |_www/ | |_private/ | |_user2/ |_www/ |_private/ (etc.) Accessing http://10.0.2.20/user1/ of course, contains 'www' and 'private' folders and is proxied through a public server using Apache's Reverse Proxy. I'd like it so the following happens: http://public-proxy-server/user1/ actually shows the content from http://10.0.2.20/user1/www/ without indicating it in the URL. (/private/ would not be accessible via the public proxy server). The key here, is for it to be dynamic, so all requests to http://public-proxy-server/*/should show content from http://10.0.2.20/*/www/. Because of this, it looks like the only way to avoid proxy use on the IP 123.456.789.012*, which also answers to vcs, vcs.example.org, svn, svn.example.org, subversion and subversion.example.org is to list all of them, not just the IP. Is there some trick to make Subversion either resolve IP addresses before checking for proxy exceptions, or exclude everything that is not a fully qualified DNS name (that is, doesn't contain a dot)? * Yes, I know that's not a valid IP

    I'm running a Nginx 1.2.4 webserver here, and I'm behind a proxy of my hoster to prevent ddos attacks. The downside of being behind this proxy is that I need to get the REAL IP information from an extra header. In PHP it works great by doing $_SERVER[HTTP_X_REAL_IP] for example. Now before I was behind this proxy of my hoster I had a very effective way of blocking certain IP's by doing this: include /etc/nginx/block.conf and to allow/deny IP's there. But now due to the proxy, Nginx sees all traffic coming from 1 IP. Is there a way I can get Nginx to read the IP's like how PHP does, with the X-REAL-IP header?
