    I have just installed 12.04 LTS 32bit because it was recommended but it seems slow, slightly slower than the EX family edition windows which came with the notebook and I used for 3 years.... so it makes me wonder if this is the correct version of Ubuntu for me. (or.. maybe I need to install the driver for my built in graphic card? or anything else.) specs: Samsung N270 notebook. Intel Atom cpu N270 @ 1.6GH X 2. 1GB RAM I am not sure the type of graphic card I just know that it is built in of Intel. Thank you guys for the help. Patu.

  • Add Service Reference is generating Message Contracts

    OK, this has been haunting me for a while, can't find much on Google and I am starting to lose hope so I am reverting to the SO community. When I import a given service using "Add service Reference" on Visual Studio 2008 (SP1) all the Request/Response messages are being unnecessarily wrapped into Message Contracts (named as -- "operationName" + "Request"/"Response" + "1" at the end). The code generator says: // CODEGEN: Generating message contract since the operation XXX is neither RPC nor document wrapped. The guys who are generating the wsdl from a Java service say they are specifying DOCUMENT-LITERAL/WRAPPED. Any help/pointer/clue would be highly appreciated. Update: this is a sample of my wsdl for one of the operations that look suspicious. To my surprise it was not the case and having all the types defined in the wsdl did not change anything. I then (out of desperation) started constructing wsdls from scratch and playing with the maxOccurs attributes of element attributes contained in a sequence attribute I was able to reproduce the undesired message contract generation behavior. Here's a sample of an element: <xsd:element name="myElement"> <xsd:complexType> <xsd:sequence> <xsd:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="1" name="arg1" type="xsd:string"/> </xsd:sequence> </xsd:complexType> </xsd:element> Playing with maxOccurs on elements that are used as messages (all requests and responses basically) the following happens: maxOccurs = "1" does not trigger the wrapping macOcccurs 1 triggers the wrapping maxOccurs = "unbounded" triggers the wrapping I was not able to reproduce this on my production wsdl yet because the nesting of the types goes very deep, and it's gonna take me time to inspect it thoroughly. In the meanwhile I am hoping it might ring a bell - any help highly appreciated.

  • New cast exception with VS2010/.Net 4

    [ Updated 25 May 2010 ] I've recently upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010, and at the same time upgraded to .Net 4. I've recompiled an existing solution of mine and I'm encountering a Cast exception I did not have before. The structure of the code is simple (although the actual implementation somewhat more complicated). Basically I have: public class SomeClass : ISomeClass { // Stuff } public static class ClassFactory { public static IInterface GetClassInstance<IInterface>(Type classType) { return (IInterface)Activator.CreateInstance(classType); // This throws a cast exception } } // Call the factory with: ISomeClass anInstance = ClassFactory.GetClassInstance<ISomeClass>(typeof(SomeClass)); Ignore the 'sensibleness' of the above - its provides just a representation of the issue rather than the specifics of what I'm doing (e.g. constructor parameters have been removed). The marked line throws the exception: Unable to cast object of type 'Namespace.SomeClass' to type 'Namespace.ISomeClass'. I suspect it may have something to do with the additional DotNet security (and in particular, explicit loading of assemblies, as this is something my app does). The reason I suspect this is that I have had to add to the config file the setting: <runtime> <loadFromRemoteSources enabled="true" /> </runtime> .. but I'm unsure if this is related. Update I see (from comments) that my basic code does not reproduce the issue by itself. Not surprising I suppose. It's going to be tricky to identify which part of a largish 3-tier CQS system is relevant to this problem. One issue might be that there are multiple assemblies involved. My static class is actually a factory provider, and the 'SomeClass' is a class factory (relevant in that the factories are 'registered' within the app via explicit assembly/type loading - see below) . Upfront I use reflection to 'register' all factories (i.e. classes that implement a particular interface) and that I do this when the app starts by identifying the relevant assemblies, loading them and adding them to a cache using (in essence): Loop over (file in files) { Assembly assembly = Assembly.LoadFile(file); baseAssemblyList.Add(assembly); } Then I cache the available types in these assemblies with: foreach (Assembly assembly in _loadedAssemblyList) { Type[] assemblyTypes = assembly.GetTypes(); _loadedTypesCache.AddRange(assemblyTypes); } And then I use this cache to do a variety of reflection operations, including 'registering' of factories, which involves looping through all loaded (cached) types and finding those that implement the (base) Factory interface. I've experienced what may be a similar problem in the past (.Net 3.5, so not exactly the same) with an architecture that involved dynamically creating classes on the server and streaming the compiled binary of those classes to the client app. The problem came when trying to deserialize an instance of the dynamic class on the client from a remote call: the exception said the class type was not know, even though the source and destination types were exactly the same name (including namespace). Basically the cross boundry versions of the class were not recognised as being the same. I solved that by intercepting the deserialization process and explicitly defining the deseriazation class type in the context of the local assemblies. This experience is what makes me think the types are considered mismatched because (somehow) the interface of the actual SomeClass object, and the interface of passed into the Generic method are not considered the same type. So (possibly) my question for those more knowledgable about C#/DotNet is: How does the class loading work that somehow my app thinks there are two versions/types of the interface type and how can I fit that?   • Why doesn't this code work correctly?

    I'm working on a website that displays galleries, using jCarousel. But no matter what I try, I can't get it to work, and I need to finish this by today. I have a very urgent schedule. My code basically takes image URLs from a database and sends them to AJAX, which passes it to jCarousel which makes the gallery. But there are a few problems: It doesn't display correctly! I can only get the last item pulled from the database, and it displays on the bottom-most row. After the item pulled from the database is displayed, the first time I click on "prev" there's no scroll effect, and the item just disappears! Only if I click on "next" 2-3 times there's a scroll effect and the item remains visible. My items are always displayed at the end of the carousel! This is urgent.. My formatting takes a lot of lines, the commented CSS takes a lot, and a lot of the code is HTML and jCarousel configuration, and there's also the BounceEasing effect which takes a few lines. There's not much actual code! So as I said, this is urgent and I need this fixed. But I can't get it to work. Please help me! Thanks for your time! EDIT: I changed the code a bit, but it still does not work. I really need help on this one!! EDIT: I added document.createElement("li"); to each while loop. Now all my items are displayed, but they are displayed vertically and not horizontally on each row. Other than that all other problems are the same. EDIT: Oh and also, in the row my image displays, only the image is there. Maybe jCarousel doesn't accept img and text, I don't know.

  • Server 2008 RAID5 resynching

    I built a W2K8 R2 server last weekend, and built a R5 array using Disk Management, 5x 1TB drives. For the next 60 hours the status said 'Resynching (X%)' as it built the array. during this time i did read and write to the drive (slowly) and once the rebuild was complete speeds were quite fast. I was copying over some data from a USB hard drive overnight, and the machine crashed (looking in the error i believe it was the driver for the usb drive) and so the RAID5 went back to resynching, since the machine was not shut down properly. The issue is, it's been about 48 hours since that started and I'm happy to say it will take roughly 60 hours again to resynch, however.. all this time in Disk Management, the status has only said 'Resynching', not 'Resynching (X%)'. The hard drive light is going nuts, and read/writes are slow again, so I'm assuming it is actually resynching. The question is - is that a correct assumption? and why is disk management not telling me what %age it's done? Is this normal behaviour for a not-properly-shut-down r5 array?

  • Server reporting incorrect mime type for css files

    We have a VPS server that we host our websites on. I have written a CMS using CodeIgniter. On one of the interfaces, I am attempting to upload a css file to the system. This worked correctly when we had it hosted on shared hosting. Since we've moved it to the VPS, I am getting an "incorrect filetype" error. It all comes down to the fact that the server is reporting a mime type of text/x-c for the css file rather than text/css. I logged in via shell and ran the following command on an existing valid css file (to make sure it wasn't an issue with either CodeIgniter or with php). file --brief --mime 'filename.css' 2>&1 The server gave me the following in response to my command: text/x-c; charset=us-ascii My question ... is there some sort of server setting that I need to tweak to get the server to correctly identify the css file as text/css? Do I just have to add a mime type for the css files to the server? I found the mime types file (etc/mime.types), and it just hase video types and a couple other that I have no idea what they are. There is nothing in there for css or images or html files. Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. I'm not a server person, so I'm hoping someone can help me out. Some server specs: Apache/2.2.22 (Unix) php 5.3.13 Server API = CGI/FastCGI the fileinfo php extension appears to be disabled

  • PS/2 to USB adapter doesn't work with Model M keyboard

    I bought a server about 3 months ago from a friend, and I have only had time to tinker with it in the last week. I noticed that this server doesn't have any PS/2 ports, which meant configuring it was near impossible. I don't have any USB keyboards in the house, I only have an IBM Model M keyboard (built 1994) and another IBM keyboard that was built circa 2001. Both of them have PS/2 connections. I bought an adapter off eBay, and when I used it with the Model M keyboard the three lights on the keyboard flashed for a split second, but then the keyboard is then unresponsive. I can bash away at the keys for ages and nothing will happen. The same applies to the later built IBM keyboard. What could I do to make the adapter work? I am getting the loan of a USB keyboard in two weeks time, but I'd like a more permanent solution without having to rely on getting the loan of a keyboard every time I have to perform maintenance on the server. And as I already have two keyboards which work fine and I like using, I don't really want to have to buy another keyboard just for use on the server.

  • Multiple PHP SAPI configuration

    I'm trying to build PHP for use as an apache shared module --with-apxs2 but also with the 'php-cgi' binary (fastcgi) on Mac OSX 10.6. I'm using this ./configure : /configure --prefix=/usr/local/PHP \ --with-apxs2=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs \ --disable-ipv6 \ --enable-cgi \ --with-curl \ --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config \ --with-openssl=/usr \ --enable-ftp \ --enable-shared \ --enable-soap \ --enable-sockets \ --enable-zip \ --with-zlib-dir It builds the apache php5.so module just fine, but in /usr/local/PHP/bin, there is no php-cgi file. If I build it without the --with-apxs2 option (and indeed, I don't even need the --enable-cgi option) the php-cgi file gets built with no problems. Background on my setup: PHP 5.3.4, Apache 2.2.14, Mac OSX 10.6, Tomcat with JavaBridge (which is why I need the php-cgi file) Without the apxs2 option, /usr/local/php/bin/php -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cli) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:14) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies and /usr/local/php/bin/php-cgi -v produces: PHP 5.3.4 (cgi-fcgi) (built: Dec 21 2010 21:35:12) Copyright (c) 1997-2010 The PHP Group Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies My question is, what am I not understanding with php SAPIs that won't allow the building of the two modules at the same time?     I've recently bought a new PC, installed Ubuntu and am now unable to get 5.1 digital sound working. Simple analogue stereo works fine on both the front and rear connectors. On my old box I connected the coax connection from my soundcard to my surround sound amplifier, set Settings-Sound to "Digital Stereo Duplex" and it worked. My old soundcard doesn't fit in my new machine so I'm using the built-in sound hardware. I'm connecting the combination output socket on the back of the PC via the same cable to my surround amp as before. The MB is an MSI Global H61M-P31 with an RealTek ALC887 sound chip. When I go to Settings-Sound I only see "Headphone Built-in Audio" and "Analogue Output Built-in Audio" - no digitial options.   • Is it okay to use an administrator account for everyday use if UAC is on?

    Since I switched to Windows 7 about 3 years ago, and now using Windows 8.1, I have become familiar with the concept of User Account Control and used my PC the following way: a standard account which I use for every day work and the built-in Administrator account activated and used only to elevate processes when they request so, or to ”Run as administrator” applications when I need to. However, recently after reading more about User Account Control, I started wondering if my way of working is good? Or should I use an administrator account for every day work, since an administrator account is not elevated until requested by apps, or until I request so via the ”Run as administrator” option? I am asking this because I read somewhere that the built-in Administrator account is a true administrator, by which I mean UAC doesn't pop up when logged in within it, and I am scared of not having problems when potential malicious software come into scene. I have to mention that I do not use it on a daily basis, just when I need to elevate some apps. I barely log in into it 10 times a year... So, how's better? Thanks for your answers! I asked this a year ago (:P) and I think I should reiterate it: is an administrator account as safe these days as a standard account coupled with the built-in Administrator account when needed?

  • Disable internal display on Macbook Pro without closed lid mode?

    I have an early 2007 Macbook Pro running 10.5 that I've recently set up on a KVM with my primary desktop system. The problem I've run into is that I have a 20" 1680x1050 LCD, and OS X only provides options to mirror at the resolution of the built-in display or to span. Since the built-in display runs at 1440x900, this leads to running my LCD at non-native res and a fuzzy picture. There isn't any option that I can find to simply disable the built-in display entirely and run the external LCD at its native resolution. I am aware of closed lid mode, but the MBP was disassembled while in storage for about 6 months (took it apart to pull the HDD) and the cable to the touchpad, which controls the sleep sensor was damaged, meaning closed lid mode won't work. I've looked into replacing the cable, but the cheapest I've been able to find it is $75-100, and I'm trying not to invest any more money into this computer as it also has a completely dead battery and a few other minor problems. I've found the app SwitchResX which appears to allow you to do what I need, but it has a lot of functionality I don't need and a ~$20 registration charge attached to it. An odd set of circumstances, I'm aware, but I was hoping somebody might know of an OS hack that would let me just disable the internal display and be done with it. :)

  • Find out what fonts are being sent to a printer

    I have an issue where two computers running XP and with identical print drivers have different behavior printing over parallel port to receipt printers. For one type of receipt, receipt printing is instant. For another kind printing is delayed by ten seconds on most machines but not on the other. This happens even if I swap out printers. I believe the delay is because this computer has a different set of fonts installed. (It is used for graphic design.) The printers have built-in fonts, and if you do not use one of the built-in fonts the printer has to build up an image in memory rather than just spitting out its fonts. For a particular kind of receipt with special fonts on a particular computer the computer is sending a font which the receipt printer does not have built in. My question is, is there a way to find out what fonts are being sent to the printer? This would let me narrow down what I need to modify in the Windows font folder. Thank you!

  • A plugin is preventing Eclipse from starting up

    It just gives me a blank window, and the splash screen doesn't go away. I tried running it in a terminal, turns out it's a problematic plugin. Is there a way to disable that plugin without the GUI?     I am updating a PowerShell script that manages some .NET assemblies. The script was written for assemblies built against .NET 2 (the same version of the framework that PowerShell runs with), but now needs to work with .NET 4 assemblies as well as .NET 2 assemblies. Since .NET 4 supports running applications built against older versions of the framework, it seems like the simplest solution is to launch PowerShell with the .NET 4 runtime when I need to run it against .NET 4 assemblies. How can I run PowerShell with the .NET 4 runtime?

I noticed that the version of sgen.exe in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\ was built against .NET 2.0, but the version in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v7.0A\bin\NETFX 4.0 Tools\ was built against .NET 4.0.
