• Why `A & a = a` is valid?

I used reference at the class member Derived::m_base because I wanted to make sure that the member will be initialized as the constructor had called. One problem is that nor GCC nor MSVC gives me a warning at m_base(m_base). But the more serious for me is that the assert finds everything fine and the application crashes later (sometimes far away from the mistake). Question: Is there any way to indicate such mistakes?

• Creating cookieless application on development machine with asp.net

  I tried posting this on ServerFault with no luck so i am trying here. I am thinking about setting up a new domain to host static content on my website and have it cookieless just like Stackoverflow with their static domain. So before going ahead and buying the domain and setting it up I wanted to test it on my developement machine first under localhost (I have to mention that i am planning on having IIS running on my new domain for the static files). I therefore created a new application under IIS and disabled session state and forms authentication. When my main application needs resources like css, images and js , I use the path to the "static" application where they are hosted. The problem is that when I look at the request and the response for the requested files, they still have the session_id cookie defined as well as the asp.net authentication cookie. Is it at all possible to accomplish what i am trying to do on a development machine or do i have to just go ahead and purchase the new domain which hopefully with make things right? I tried to read about cookieless domain but can't figure out what i might be missing.

• NSBorderlessWindow not responding to CMD-W/CMD-M

  I have an NSBorderlessWindow subclass of NSWindow with a transparent and non-opaque background (so it's non-rectangular in appearance). I've added my own buttons to function as the close and minimize buttons when I click them, but for some reason the window will not respond to CMD-W or CMD-M like a normal one does. I have my NSWindow subclass set to return YES to canBecomeKeyWindow and canBecomeMainWindow. My NIB still has all the standard menu items in it that are there when you create a new project - including the "Minimize" item in the Window menu with the default shortcut CMD-M defined. It's hooked up to send performMiniaturize: to the first responder. However it is not enabled when the app is run, so it seems like it must be asking the window if it can minimize and the window says no or something. (I'm still very new to OSX/Cocoa.) What am I missing? Also, and maybe this is related, my borderless window has a shadow enabled - but unlike a normal titled window, when I make my window the active/front window by clicking on it, the shadow doesn't change. Normally an OSX focused window has a slightly larger/darker shadow to make it stand out more but mine never changes the shadow. It's like I'm missing something to make the OS treat this window as a real/normal/main window or something and as a result I lose the shadow change and functioning CMD-W/CMD-M.

• Any software for pattern-matching and -rewriting source code?

  I have some old software (in a language that's not dead but is dead to me ;-)) that implements a basic pattern-matching and -rewriting system for source code. I am considering resurrecting this code, translating it into a modern language, and open-sourcing the project as a refactoring power-tool. Before I go much further, I want to know if anything like this exists already (my google-fu is fanning air on this tonight). Here's how it works: the pattern-matching part matches source-code patterns spanning multiple lines of code using a template with binding variables, the pattern-rewriting part uses a template to rewrite the matched code, inserting the contents of the bound variables from the matching template matching and rewriting templates are associated (1:1) by a simple (unconditional) rewrite rule the software operates on the abstract syntax tree (AST) of the input application, and outputs a modified AST which can then be regenerated into new source code for example, suppose we find a bunch of while-loops that really should be for-loops. The following template will match the while-loop pattern: Template oldLoopPtrn int @cnt@ = 0; while (@cnt@ < @max@) { … @body@ ++@cnt@; } End_Template while the following template will specify the output rewrite pattern: Template newLoopPtrn for(int @cnt@ = 0; @cnt@ < @max@; @cnt@++) { @body@ } End_Template and a simple rule to associate them Rule oldLoopPtrn --> newLoopPtrn so code that looks like this int i=0; while(i<arrlen) { printf("element %d: %f\n",i,arr[i]); ++i; } gets automatically rewritten to look like this for(int i = 0; i < arrlen; i++) { printf("element %d: %f\n",i,arr[i]); } The closest thing I've seen like this is some of the code-refactoring tools, but they seem to be geared towards interactive rewriting of selected snippets, not wholesale automated changes. I believe that this kind of tool could supercharge refactoring, and would work on multiple languages (even HTML/CSS). I also believe that converting and polishing the code base would be a huge project that I simply cannot do alone in any reasonable amount of time. So, anything like this out there already? If not, any obvious features (besides rewrite-rule conditions) to consider? EDIT: The one feature of this system that I like very much is that the template patterns are fairly obvious and easy to read because they're written in the same language as the target source code, not in some esoteric mutated regex/BNF format.

• How to Display a Bmp in a RTF control in VB.net

  I Started with this C# Question I'm trying to Display a bmp image inside a rtf Box for a Bot program I'm making. This function is supposed to convert a bitmap to rtf code whis is inserted to another rtf formatter srtring with additional text. Kind of like Smilies being used in a chat program. For some reason the output of this function gets rejected by the RTF Box and Vanishes completly. • Can't create an OgreBullet Trimesh

  I'm using Ogre and Bullet for a project and I currently have a first person camera set up with a Capsule Collision Shape. I've created a model of a cave (which will serve as the main part of the level) and imported it into my game. I'm now trying to create an OgreBulletCollisions::TriangleMeshCollisionShape of the cave. The code I've got so far is this but it isn't working. It compiles but the Capsule shape passes straight through the cave shape. Also I have debug outlines on and there are none being drawn around the cave mesh. • Reading Data from DDFS ValueError: No JSON object could be decoded

  I'm running dozens of map reduce jobs for a number of different purposes using disco. My data has grown enormous and I thought I would try using DDFS for a change rather than standard txt files. I've followed the DISCO map/reduce example Counting Words as a map/reduce job, without to much difficulty and with the help of others, Reading JSON specific data into DISCO I've gotten past one of my latest problems. I'm trying to read data in/out of ddfs to better chunk and distribute it but am having a bit of trouble. • Am I under risk of CSRF attacks in a POST form that doesn't require the user to be logged in?

  I'm probably being a total noob here, but I'm still uncertain about what a CSRF (Cross-Site Request Forgery) attack is exactly. So lets look at three situations... 1) I have a POST form that I use to edit data on my site. I want this data to be edited only by users that are logged in. 2) I have a site, which can be used by both users who are logged in as well as guests. Parts of the site are for logged in users only, but there are also POST forms that can be used by all users - anonymous and not (for example a standard contact form). Should the contact form be safeguarded against CSRF attacks? 3) I have a site which doesn't have an authentication system at all (well, perhaps that's unrealistic, so lets say it has an admin site which is separate from the rest of it and the admin part is properly safeguarded). The main part of the site is only used by anonymous users. Do the POST forms on it need to be safeguarded? In the case of 1) the answer is clearly yes. But in the case of 2 and 3 I don't know (and is the difference between 2 and 3 even significant?).

• How can I setup Hudson to use the same repository for different projects and maintain separate chang

  I typically setup SVN to host 1 big project per repository but a lot of our infrastructure has changed and we now have one main SVN server that has a hierarchy like so Branches Tags Trunk Project1 files & folders Project2 files & folders Project3 files & folders Projects1,2, and 3 do not share anything amongst themselves, they are independent projects each with their own solution file to be built. I can setup projects in Hudson like so Repository Url: http://server/svn/MainRepository Local module directory (optional): /Trunk/Project1 And that will maintain a separate workspace for each project, but every time you commit to Project 2 or Project 3, a build gets kicked off in Hudson for every project based in that repository. Also, any commit made anywhere in the repository is pulled down and inserted into the Hudson changelog for all of them. I know the easiest solution would be to simply separate every project into its own repository. However, if I couldn't do that due to various reasons, is there a feasible way to achieve the functionality that having separate repositories gets me? I want commits to the sub folder of project 1 to only affect project 1. No other project's commits should cause project 1 to build and project 1's changelog in Hudson should only have commit notes from project 1.

  Hello, Sorry I can't be specific with code, but the problems I am seeing are anomalous. Character string values seem to be getting changed depending on other, unrelated code. For example, the value of the argument that is passed around below will change merely depending on if I comment out one or two of the fprintf() calls! By the last fprintf() the value is typically completely empty (and no, I have checked to make sure I am not modifying the argument directly... all I have to do is comment out a fprintf() or add another fprintf() and the value of the string will change at certain points!): static process_args(char *arg) { /* debug */ fprintf(stderr, "Function arg is %s\n", arg); ...do a bunch of stuff including call another function that uses alloc()... /* debug */ fprintf(stderr, "Function arg is now %s\n", arg); } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { char *my_arg; ... do a bunch of stuff ... /* just to show you it's nothing to do with the argv array */ my_string = strdup(argv[1]); /* debug */ fprintf(stderr, "Argument 1 is %s\n", my_string); process_args(my_string); } There's more code all around, so I can't ask for someone to debug my program -- what I want to know is HOW can I debug why character strings like this are getting their memory changed or overwritten based on unrelated code. My program isn't huge, it's like a thousand lines of code give or take and a couple dynamically linked external libs, but nothing out of the ordinary. HELP! TIA!

• Why is an Add method required for { } initialization?

  To use initialization syntax like this: var contacts = new ContactList { { "Dan", "[email protected]" }, { "Eric", "[email protected]" } }; ...my understanding is that my ContactList type would need to define an Add method that takes two string parameters: public void Add(string name, string email); What's a bit confusing to me about this is that the { } initializer syntax seems most useful when creating read-only or fixed-size collections. After all it is meant to mimic the initialization syntax for an array, right? (OK, so arrays are not read-only; but they are fixed size.) And naturally it can only be used when the collection's contents are known (at least the number of elements) at compile-time. So it would almost seem that the main requirement for using this collection initializer syntax (having an Add method and therefore a mutable collection) is at odds with the typical case in which it would be most useful. I'm sure I haven't put as much thought into this matter as the C# design team; it just seems that there could have been different rules for this syntax that would have meshed better with its typical usage scenarios. Am I way off base here? Is the desire to use the { } syntax to initialize fixed-size collections not as common as I think? What other factors might have influenced the formulation of the requirements for this syntax that I'm simply not thinking of?

The idea is that I would run all [NSString stringWithFormat:] calls through this method instead. This might seem unnecessary to many, but click on to the referenced SO question (first line) to see examples of why I need to do this. Ideas? Thoughts? Better implementations? Better Solutions?

• Android -Layout Manager not showing buttons

  The following is my code. I want an interface where I have a single line textbox, a multiline textbox with 2 buttons below. I want the multiline textbox to occupy all the space available after rendering the buttons and textbox. For this I created two LinearLayouts inside the main layout. The first one has vertical orientation with layout_width set to fill_parent. The second one is horizontal with fill_parent again. The first one has a textbox for which I have set the layout_height to fill parent. The second one has two textboxes OK and Cancel. When I run this application I get the UI, but the Buttons are very small. I have to set the button height manually. What am I doing wrong here.
