  • Script to monitor free space in Hdd

    I have a server app that crushes when the HDD free space it's a multiple of 4Gb (on a Windows Server 2003). In general i keep track myself o that weekly since i use the machine from time to time. Can you point out an app or script (i don't wanna install powershell, is this doable???) that copies some larger files from one folder to another to get the free space out of the multiple of 4Gb range.     Hi, We're running Server and Exchange 2003 here. There's a shared calendar which HR keep up-to-date detailing staff who are on leave. I'm looking for a VB Script (or alternate) which will extract the "appointment" titles of each item for the current day and then email the detail to a mail group, in doing so notifying the group with regard to which staff are on leave for the day.   • Autocorrect for "fat fingers" - MS Word

    I'm wondering if anyone knows of a plug-in for MS Word which can handle key-presses of surrounding keys when typing at speed (rather like iPhone or Android autocorrect)? My use case is in transcribing interviews where I need to type quickly (even with the playback at half speed) - but I don't do this often enough to become a proficient touch typist. I will also be paying close attention to the text produced in subsequent analysis so I have a reasonable expectation that I'll catch any "hilarious" autocorrect errors. Any pointers to plug-ins which work at either a system level or within MS Word would be great. Even in an open source word processor at a pinch, though I'd miss the MS Word environment and my macros. Thanks.

  • ldap not properly resolving host

    Hi, I just changed the IP address of my (openldap) ldap server and despite DNS propagating, ldap still isn't resolving the new address correctly. When I run "host myserver.com" the proper ip address is returned. There is no entry in /etc/hosts for myserver.com. But when I run: ldapsearch -d 1 -x "uid" -H ldap://myserver.com I see the old address. How can I force ldap to check DNS for the proper IP address? thanks, Mike

  • Two keyboards - one qwerty one dvorak. Can windows use both simultaneously?

    Similar to this question: Is it possible to use multi keyboards with multi keyboard layouts simultaneously? - I have two keyboards plugged in simultaneously. Both are querty keyboards, but I've rearranged the keys on one to be a dvorak layout. I'd like to find some way to configure windows (XP) such that while both keyboards are plugged in, typing on each results in it's respective layout. I'd prefer if there was someway to have the system automatically use the desired layout based on which USB keyboard it is receiving input from. If no such solution is possible, I would settle for a fast way of switching between US English and US English Dvorak languages so that in a pinch I can easily go from one to the other. Thanks.

In addition, the library also provides all of the native functions such as pinch-to-zoom, swiping to navigate and tapping to hide/show the navigation arrows and back button. I want to add a button that if clicked by the user, would display a UIActionSheet with options for sharing the photo by mail or MMS and the user would choose one of them. I see a lot of tutorials about this but I need to do this by my self. so plz help me

  • Converting an external hard drive to internal

    I have a WD Elements 1 TB external drive. I'm in a pinch and I need an internal SATA drive. How do I find out if the drive in here is actually a SATA drive? Edit: The WD Elements is a really nice external drive. I gently pried open the top and slid out a 1 TB Caviar Green hard drive. There were four black rubber brackets that slid off easily. One screw removed the SATA -- USB, and then I slid it into my computer.

  • Cocos2d-x CCFollow Zooming issue

    Hi I am currently building a cocos2d-x game which incorporates pinch zoom using CCLayerPanZoom class which can be found here The problem is basically when using CCFollow and zooming and out, it does'nt zoom on the actually followed node, so the camera appears to zoom towards the bottom left corner of the screen, when I would rather it zoom centrally on the followed node. If I could resolve this I would pretty darn happy. I converted a fix from the cocos2d objective C version in the CCfollow class to cocos2d-x which improved the issue,but if you look at the post in latter link you will see the guy is having the exact same problem, he gave up on fixing it sadly. I think its close but I don't really know what going on, hopefully someone out there has already faced and fixed this problem. My converted code is below.   • Responsive website VS mobile website

    I am creating a new blog. Nowadays, especially for a blog, it's important that the websites are accessible for all devices. Now I have to make a choice on what to do. I have seen 2 options. Option 1 is to go with a normal fixed website, for example 960px wide (grid960). And for mobile users have a mobile version. This takes some more time, but then there are 2 good versions of the website. Option 2 I haven't seen a lot yet, creating a adaptive website, or also called responsive website. I am now looking into the LESS framework, where the website automatically switches to to required width. Only downside is that when the normal browser is re-sized, everything re-sizes. Another problem I found is that pinch-to-zoom on devices does not work. Now the question is, which one would you prefer for a blog. One that constantly changes layout when you move your device, or one where you have the choice to view mobile and normal. If there are any other options, please let me know.

    Last week's article, Building a Store Locator ASP.NET Application Using Google Maps API (Part 1), was the first in a multi-part article series exploring how to add store locator-type functionality to your ASP.NET website using the free Google Maps API. Part 1 started with an examination of the database used to power the store locator, which contains a single table named Stores with columns capturing the store number, its address and its latitude and longitude coordinates. Next, we looked at using Google Maps API's geocoding service to translate a user-entered address, such as San Diego, CA or 92101 into its latitude and longitude coordinates. Knowing the coordinates of the address entered by the user, we then looked at writing a SQL query to return those stores within (roughly) 15 miles of the user-entered address. These nearby stores were then displayed in a grid, listing the store number, the distance from the address entered to each store, and the store's address. While a list of nearby stores and their distances certainly qualifies as a store locator, most store locators also include a map showing the area searched, with markers denoting the store locations.   • Why does everybody hate SharePoint?

    Reading this topic about the most over hyped technologies I noticed that SharePoint is almost universally reviled. My experience with SharePoint (especially the most recent versions) is that it accomplishes it's core competencies smartly. Namely: Centralized document repository - get all those office documents out of email (with versioning) User-editible content creation for internal information disemination - look, an HR site with current phone numbers and the vacation policy Project collaboration - a couple clicks creates a site with a project's documents, task list, simple schedule, threaded discussion, and possibly a list of all project related emails. Very basic business automation - when you fill out the vacation form, an email is sent to HR. My experience is that SharePoint only gets really ugly when an organization tries to push it in a direction it isn't designed for. SharePoint is not a CRM, ERP, bug database or external website. SharePoint is flexible enough to serve in a pinch, but it is no replacement for a dedicated tool. (Microsoft is just as guilty of pushing SharePoint into domains it doesn't belong.) If you use SharePoint for what it's designed for, it really does work. Thoughts?

  • Zoom Layer centered on a Sprite

    I am in process of developing a small game where a space-ship travels through a layer (doh!), in some situations the spaceship comes close to an enemy space ship, and the whole layer is zoomed in on the two with the zoom level being dependent on the distance between the ship and the enemy. All of this works fine. The main question, however, is how do I keep the zoom being centered on the center point between the two space-ships and make sure that the two are not off-screen?     Nokia recently launched the Asha 305, 306, and 311, which are full touch devices with smartphone-like functionality at a low price.   • HP Compaq 2510p wireless disabled by hardware switch

    I have an HP Compaq 2510p laptop running ubuntu 12.04 LTS. ubuntu reports that wireless is disabled by means of a hardware switch. There is a 'soft-key' button on the laptop to control the physical wireless hardware but this does not respond. There is no other button, slider, (fn)+ combination to control the physical wireless hardware. There is no BIOS function to disable wireless (and on XP - previous OS - wireless functioned fine). mike@ubuntu:~$ rfkill list all 0: brcmwl-0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: yes 1: hp-wifi: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Running rfkill unblock all doesn't change things and I can see no way to change use from 0: to 1: (if that's even possible - or desirable - in the first place). I have checked for additional drivers and the Broadcom proprietary wireless driver is already installed and has a green light. Essentially, I believe I need to make the HP 'soft-keys' work - or at least the wireless card toggle. Advice gratefully received. Cheers M

  • Silverlight Firestarter Wrap Up and WCF RIA Services Talk Sample Code

    I had a great time attending and speaking at the Silverlight Firestarter event up in Redmond on December 2, 2010. In addition to getting a chance to hang out with a lot of cool people from Microsoft such as Scott Guthrie, John Papa, Tim Heuer, Brian Goldfarb, John Allwright, David Pugmire, Jesse Liberty, Jeff Handley, Yavor Georgiev, Jossef Goldberg, Mike Cook and many others, I also had a chance to chat with a lot of people attending the event and hear about what projects they’re working on which was awesome. If you didn’t get a chance to look through all of the new features coming in Silverlight 5 check out John Papa’s post on the subject. While at the Silverlight Firestarter event I gave a presentation on WCF RIA Services and wanted to get the code posted since several people have asked when it’d be available. The talk can be viewed by clicking the image below. Code from the talk follows as well as additional links. I had a few people ask about the green bracelet on my left hand since it looks like something you’d get from a waterpark. It was used to get us access down a little hall that led backstage and allowed us to go backstage during the event. I thought it looked kind of dorky but it was required to get through security. Over 1000 people registered to attend the conference in person at the Microsoft campus and well over 15,000 to watch it through the live stream.  The event started for me on Tuesday afternoon with a flight up to Seattle from Phoenix. My flight was delayed 1 1/2 hours (I seem to be good at booking delayed flights) so I didn’t get up there until almost 8 PM. John Papa did a tech check at 9 PM that night and I was scheduled for 9:30 PM. We basically plugged in my laptop backstage (amazing number of servers, racks and audio devices back there) and made sure everything showed up properly on the projector and the machines recording the presentation. In addition to a dedicated show director, there were at least 5 tech people back stage and at least that many up in the booth running lights, audio, cameras, and other aspects of the show. I wish I would’ve taken a picture of the backstage setup since it was pretty massive – servers all over the place. I definitely gained a new appreciation for how much work goes into these types of events. Here’s what the room looked like right before my tech check– not real exciting at this point. That’s Yavor Georgiev (who spoke on WCF Services at the Firestarter) in the background. We had plenty of monitors to reference during the presentation. Two monitors for slides (right and left side) and a notes monitor. The 4th monitor showed the time and they’d type in notes to us as we talked (such as “You’re over time!” in my case since I went around 4 minutes over :-)). Wednesday morning I went back on campus at Microsoft and watched John Papa film a few Silverlight TV episodes with Dave Campbell and Ryan Plemons.   Next I had the chance to watch the dry run of the keynote with Scott Guthrie and John Papa. We were all blown away by the demos shown since they were even better than expected. Starting at 1 PM on Wednesday I went over to Building 35 and listened to Yavor Georgiev (WCF Services), Jaime Rodriguez (Windows Phone 7), Jesse Liberty (Data Binding) and Jossef Goldberg and Mike Cook (Silverlight Performance) give their different talks and we all shared feedback with each other which was a lot of fun. Jeff Handley from the RIA Services team came afterwards and listened to me give a dry run of my WCF RIA Services talk. He had some great feedback that I really appreciated getting. That night I hung out with John Papa and Ward Bell and listened to John walk through his keynote demos. I also got a sneak peak of the gift given to Dave Campbell for all his work with Silverlight Cream over the years. It’s a poster signed by all of the key people involved with Silverlight: Thursday morning I got up fairly early to get to the event center by 8 AM for speaker pictures. It was nice and quiet at that point although outside the room there was a huge line of people waiting to get in.     At around 8:30 AM everyone was let in and the main room was filled quickly. Two other overflow rooms in the Microsoft conference center (Building 33) were also filled to capacity. At around 9 AM Scott Guthrie kicked off the event and all the excitement started! From there it was all a blur but it was definitely a lot of fun. All of the sessions for the Silverlight Firestarter were recorded and can be watched here (including the keynote). Corey Schuman, John Papa and I also released 11 lab exercises and associated videos to help people get started with Silverlight. Definitely check them out if you’re interested in learning more!
