However, if I do a SQL query such as: SELECT * FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.Columns where TABLE_NAME = It doesn't tell me if the column is an identity specification - is there a query that will?   Hi there I want to backup my database with compression. This is my code : BACKUP DATABASE dbbbb TO DISK = N'C:\\dbbb.bak' WITH COMPRESSION this running correctly in Sql Server 2008. But my server has Sql Server 2005 and COMPRESSION is not a recognized BACKUP option in 2005. How can i compress my backup in 2005 Thank you for your helps.

  Is it just me, or does expanding the list of databases in SQL Server 2008 Management Studio take significantly more time than expanding the list of databases in SQL Server 2005 Management Studio? If it isn't just me, is there an explanation for this behavior? Whatever it is doing in the background that makes it take longer, can we turn that off? Is it configurable? I know, it seems trivial, but I am perpetually being surprised at how long this takes.

• Migrated SQL Server database suddenly in "Restoring" state

  I backed up a SQL Server 2005 database and restored it to a new SQL 2008 instance. The restore was quick and successful. Everything was fine for an hour or so. Suddenly, the database is now stuck in "(Restoring...)" state in Management Studio and has a green arrow icon, and my application login is failing! Any advice? :-)

What is the safest way to get a copy of that file without shutting down the database and disturbing the existing log/backups/backup schedules and just about everything. FYI, Its a SQL Server 2000 database server and I can see the log file (its about 4GB in size) and I cannot copy it as is; I get the "access denied" error when copying from explorer or command line.

  Possible Duplicate: Delete duplicate records from a SQL table without a primary key I have a table with the columns person_ID firstname lastname and I somehow ended up with a bunch of duplicates. Is there any way to look at all columns where firstname and lastname are the same and delete all except one of them (it doesn't matter which one is left as they are all the same.)
