  • Where to put my backup.sh?

    I'm writing a shell script that will make backups of my system ( like this: https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/backup-shellscripts.html ). What is the best location in my system, to store this file? I know, I can put it anywhere, but what will be if it will be stored in a directory being backed up? What is the best practice here? I'm running an Ubuntu-server.

  • How can I copy an XP Mode virtual machine from one computer to another?

    Is it possible to copy an XP Mode Virtual PC image from one computer to a completely different computer (not on the network, not related in any way whatsoever)? I tried this, but it only would seem to work on the same computer: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/21904-virtual-xp-machine-copy.html When I copy it to another computer and modify the settings as described above, the cursor just jumps around all over the screen and never starts.

  • Free, web based alternative to Visio?

    I have used Visio to map out my network structure, and have used the export function to create an HTML page that is searchable by IP, hostname etc. This is a really nice tool and I use it often. However, I would like for users who do not use Internet Explorer to be able to use the search features. What are some alternatives to Visio here? I want to draw a network diagram where objects are searchable. Thanks!

    When you're prompted to login to a site using HTTP authentication (the kind with the pop-up box requesting username/password), Firefox's password manager populates it with only the first stored password for that domain. Is there a way to have Firefox prompt for WHICH account should be used? It is unlike the normal HTML login forms in which you can just press the down arrow to select from multiple login accounts.

    I'm running awstats server stats log from another machine, nginx.conf: http://pastebin.com/buKAdfdd cgi-bin.conf: http://pastebin.com/qbbJ1rwK But I'm getting 404 when I visit http://domain2.com/awstats/awstats.domain.com.html (and the 23 files are there..) in /var/www/awstats/ I was following this, but not sure how to resolve the 404's http://www.goitworld.com/analysis-access-logs-of-nginx-by-awstats/

Here's what I've been able to do so far: I've created a custom plugin that adds one piece of node data called "my_custom_data" it works when I load it manually in IRB I've used the Ohai cookbook to get it loaded on the servers that need it However, Ohai doesn't load it, neither during Chef runs nor if I run Ohai manually.     Hy, I need a (linux/shell) script which does the following: It takes a folder full of jpg-files, generates thumbnails and previews (maybe using imagemagik's convert) and creates a html-page which includes all the thumbnails, opens a preview using something like LightBox and links to the original size. Does somebody know a script which does this? I could write one on my own, but it would save me some time.

    See this NYTimes url: http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/02/war-in-the-cabinet/?hp If we type opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/02/war-i in browser, it automatically redirects us to the above article, the only article in that folder starting with "war-i". How to do this in a site with apache, which serves static html files only? That is, if there is a apache module, without adding scripts, that would be best.

    Is it possible to enforce a maximum rsize/wsize in nfsd? I'm having issues related to IP fragmentation (yes, I'm stuck with NFS-over-UDP, contrary to the warnings in the manpage), and have no practical access to the client mount command (buried in one of many TFTP boot images). http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/ar01s05.html lists a kernel source parameter limiting the maximum block size, but I'm not gong to get away with recompiling the nfsd kernel module so that's not really an option either :-(

I want to install a Diameter Server, some kind of client that uses Diameter Protocol to authenticate, and then start tweaking things. http://www.opendiameter.org has gone dark (although the sourceforge page still exists).   • Integration features enabled but drives not available

    Frustratingly, after a recent update to Windows XP mode integration features, the availability of shared disks from the hosts has been impaired. Does anyone know any kind of workaround or fix (excluding dropbox et al)? I have tried completely uninstalling and reinstalling as per http://www.sevenforums.com/virtualization/63710-refreshing-xp-mode.html#post568715 At one point restarting the machine appeared to have worked, but today again I am without access to my host. Interestingly audio and copy and paste to and from the machine are working.

    I'm receiving IP packets using the SLIP protocol, and I'd like to pretty-print them similarly to how tcpdump does it. My program is able to decode the SLIP protocol and create a single string containing an IP packet if necessary. I couldn't find any relevant tcpdump command-line flags except for -r. The file format is documented at http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html , but it looks a bit too complicated. Is there a Linux tool for pretty-printing raw IP packets?

I heard that ZFS did not yet support shrinking pools by removing drives/mirrors. But that has probably been changed. Which version (if any) released the ability to shrink a pool?

    How can I make a bootable backup of my Mac's internal hard drive to be restored using Disk Utility, without formatting my external destination drive as HFS+ (it's FAT32, of course)? Time Machine and SuperDuper both require that the volume where the backup is saved be HFS+ formatted.   • Where does Chrome store its bookmarks in Ubuntu 11.10?

    I looked at all the other posts on this but can't find the directories mentioned (~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Bookmarks, it's a JSON file.). Being a 2 day Newbie to Ubuntu/Linux I would like to know if the location has changed in the latest version or if not how I locate the directory indicated. I have logged in as root and searched for the folder and can't find it although I imported my bookmarks from a html file so I know that they must be saved somewhere.

    I've used the mklink utility to create a symlink to a directory of web content. IIS7 doesn't "see" changes any classic ASP files in this linked directory without issuing an iisreset. I've disabled caching and file changes are picked up on other static files (such as .html) but .asp files are ignored.
