  • LinkedList.contains execution speed

    - by Le_Coeur
    Why Methode LinkedList.contains() runs quickly than such implementation: for (String s : list) if (s.equals(element)) return true; return false; I don't see great difference between this to implementations(i consider that search objects aren't nulls), same iterator and equals operation

  • Can I write a test without any assert in it ?

    - by stratwine
    Hi, I'd like to know if it is "ok" to write a test without any "assert" in it. So the test would fail only when an exception / error has occured. Eg: like a test which has a simple select query, to ensure that the database configuration is right. So when I change some db-configuration, I re-run this test and check if the configuration is right. ? Thanks!

  • How to select the specific cell in Jtable?

    - by Nitz
    Hey guys Now in my one jframe i have used two jtables with different data. But now what i want is..as soon as user select one cell on first table, then in second table, the cell next to selected cell of the first table should be selected. means.... if user had selected the cell which is on column - 3 and row - 1 [ first table cell position ] then next table should automatically select the cell at column - 4 and row - 1 [ second table cell position ] i know how to get the selected row and column of jtable but i don't know how to set Select on jtable.

  • How to debug JBoss out of memory problem?

    - by user561733
    Hello, I am trying to debug a JBoss out of memory problem. When JBoss starts up and runs for a while, it seems to use memory as intended by the startup configuration. However, it seems that when some unknown user action is taken (or the log file grows to a certain size) using the sole web application JBoss is serving up, memory increases dramatically and JBoss freezes. When JBoss freezes, it is difficult to kill the process or do anything because of low memory. When the process is finally killed via a -9 argument and the server is restarted, the log file is very small and only contains outputs from the startup of the newly started process and not any information on why the memory increased so much. This is why it is so hard to debug: server.log does not have information from the killed process. The log is set to grow to 2 GB and the log file for the new process is only about 300 Kb though it grows properly during normal memory circumstances. This is information on the JBoss configuration: JBoss (MX MicroKernel) 4.0.3 JDK 1.6.0 update 22 PermSize=512m MaxPermSize=512m Xms=1024m Xmx=6144m This is basic info on the system: Operating system: CentOS Linux 5.5 Kernel and CPU: Linux 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 on x86_64 Processor information: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz, 8 cores This is good example information on the system during normal pre-freeze conditions a few minutes after the jboss service startup: Running processes: 183 CPU load averages: 0.16 (1 min) 0.06 (5 mins) 0.09 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 0% kernel, 1% IO, 99% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 2.46 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 0 bytes used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used When JBoss freezes, system information looks like this: Running processes: 225 CPU load averages: 4.66 (1 min) 1.84 (5 mins) 0.93 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 12% kernel, 73% IO, 15% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 17.18 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 706.29 MB used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used

  • Possible loss of precision / [type] cannot be dereferenced

    - by Samuel
    I have been looking around a lot but i simply can't find a nice solution to this... Point mouse = MouseInfo.getPointerInfo().getLocation(); int dx = (BULLET_SPEED*Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()))/ (Math.abs(y - mouse.getY()) + Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()))* (x - mouse.getX())/Math.abs(x - mouse.getX()); In this constellation i get: Possible loss of precision, when i change e.g (x - mouse.getX()) to (x - mouse.getX()).doubleValue() it says double cannot be dereferenced, when i add intValue() somewhere it says int cannot be dereferenced. What's my mistake? [x, y are integers | BULLET_SPEED is a static final int] Thanks!

  • TestNG - Factories and Dataproviders

    - by Tim K
    Background Story I'm working at a software firm developing a test automation framework to replace our old spaghetti tangled system. Since our system requires a login for almost everything we do, I decided it would be best to use @BeforeMethod, @DataProvider, and @Factory to setup my tests. However, I've run into some issues. Sample Test Case Lets say the software system is a baseball team roster. We want to test to make sure a user can search for a team member by name. (Note: I'm aware that BeforeMethods don't run in any given order -- assume that's been taken care of for now.) @BeforeMethod public void setupSelenium() { // login with username & password // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page } @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String playerName, String searchTerm) { // search for "searchTerm" // browse through results // pass if we find playerName // fail (Didn't find the player) } This test case assumes the following: The user has already logged on (in a BeforeMethod, most likely) The user has already navigated to the search page (trivial, before method) The parameters to the test are associated with the aforementioned login The Problems So lets try and figure out how to handle the parameters for the test case. Idea #1 This method allows us to associate dataproviders with usernames, and lets us use multiple users for any specific test case! @Test(dataProvider="players") public void testSearch(String user, String pass, String name, String search) { // login with user/pass // acknowledge announcements // navigate to search page // ... } ...but there's lots of repetition, as we have to make EVERY function accept two extra parameters. Not to mention, we're also testing the acknowledge announcements feature, which we don't actually want to test. Idea #2 So lets use the factory to initialize things properly! class BaseTestCase { public BaseTestCase(String user, String password, Object[][] data); } class SomeTest { @Factory public void ... } With this, we end up having to write one factory per test case... Although, it does let us have multiple users per test-case. Conclusion I'm about fresh out of ideas. There was another idea I had where I was loading data from an XML file, and then calling the methods from a program... but its getting silly. Any ideas?

  • Alternatives to JSP for Spring MVC view layer

    - by digitaljoel
    I'm looking to create a new app from scratch and will probably use Spring MVC and possibly Spring Web Flow. The projects created by Spring Roo use Spring MVC and optionally Web Flow. What are some good alternatives for view technology, or is JSP with spring and jstl taglibs and jquery the way to go?

  • BeanUtils getPropertyOfMapBean

    - by dx-cp
    Hi, Im wondering if it is possible to get data from property which is map cotaining pairs Key-StringArray (Map) in BeanUtils library. I just simply need to access one of array elements by calling propertyName=string[0]. Current version (1.8.3) does not support indexed properties. If you look into their code you will find in class PropertyUtilsBean in method getPropertyOfMapBean: if (resolver.isIndexed(propertyName) || resolver.isMapped(propertyName)) { throw new IllegalArgumentException( "Indexed or mapped properties are not supported on" + " objects of type Map: " + propertyName); } way too bad:-( Have any of you any tip how to do it somehow differently?

  • Using the JPA Criteria API, can you do a fetch join that results in only one join?

    - by Shaun
    Using JPA 2.0. It seems that by default (no explicit fetch), @OneToOne(fetch = FetchType.EAGER) fields are fetched in 1 + N queries, where N is the number of results containing an Entity that defines the relationship to a distinct related entity. Using the Criteria API, I might try to avoid that as follows: CriteriaBuilder builder = entityManager.getCriteriaBuilder(); CriteriaQuery<MyEntity> query = builder.createQuery(MyEntity.class); Root<MyEntity> root = query.from(MyEntity.class); Join<MyEntity, RelatedEntity> join = root.join("relatedEntity"); root.fetch("relatedEntity"); query.select(root).where(builder.equals(join.get("id"), 3)); The above should ideally be equivalent to the following: SELECT m FROM MyEntity m JOIN FETCH myEntity.relatedEntity r WHERE r.id = 3 However, the criteria query results in the root table needlessly being joined to the related entity table twice; once for the fetch, and once for the where predicate. The resulting SQL looks something like this: SELECT myentity.id, myentity.attribute, relatedentity2.id, relatedentity2.attribute FROM my_entity myentity INNER JOIN related_entity relatedentity1 ON myentity.related_id = relatedentity1.id INNER JOIN related_entity relatedentity2 ON myentity.related_id = relatedentity2.id WHERE relatedentity1.id = 3 Alas, if I only do the fetch, then I don't have an expression to use in the where clause. Am I missing something, or is this a limitation of the Criteria API? If it's the latter, is this being remedied in JPA 2.1 or are there any vendor-specific enhancements? Otherwise, it seems better to just give up compile-time type checking (I realize my example doesn't use the metamodel) and use dynamic JPQL TypedQueries.

  • How to stop rendering invisible faces

    - by TheMorfeus
    I am making a voxel-based game, and for needs of it, i am creating a block rendering engine. Point is, that i need to generate lots of cubes. Every time i render more than 16x16x16 chunk of theese blocks, my FPS is dropped down hardly, because it renders all 6 faces of all of theese cubes. THat's 24 576 quads, and i dont want that. So, my question is, How to stop rendering vertices(or quads) that are not visible, and therefore increase performance of my game? Here is class for rendering of a block: public void renderBlock(int posx, int posy, int posz) { try{ //t.bind(); glEnable(GL_CULL_FACE); glCullFace(GL_BACK);// or even GL_FRONT_AND_BACK */); glPushMatrix(); GL11.glTranslatef((2*posx+0.5f),(2*posy+0.5f),(2*posz+0.5f)); // Move Right 1.5 Units And Into The Screen 6.0 GL11.glRotatef(rquad,1.0f,1.0f,1.0f); glBegin(GL_QUADS); // Draw A Quad GL11.glColor3f(0.5f, 0.4f, 0.4f); // Set The Color To Green GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Top) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Top) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f, 1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Top) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f, 1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Top) //GL11.glColor3f(1.2f,0.5f,0.9f); // Set The Color To Orange GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f, 1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Bottom) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f, 1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Bottom) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Bottom) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Bottom) //GL11.glColor3f(1.0f,0.0f,0.0f); // Set The Color To Red GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f, 1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Front) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f, 1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Front) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f, 1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Front) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f, 1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Front) //GL11.glColor3f(1f,0.5f,0.0f); // Set The Color To Yellow GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Back) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Back) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Back) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Back) //GL11.glColor3f(0.0f,0.0f,0.3f); // Set The Color To Blue GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f, 1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Left) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Left) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Left) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f(-1f,-1f, 1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Left) //GL11.glColor3f(0.5f,0.0f,0.5f); // Set The Color To Violet GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f,-1f); // Top Right Of The Quad (Right) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,0); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f, 1f, 1f); // Top Left Of The Quad (Right) GL11.glTexCoord2f(1,1); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f, 1f); // Bottom Left Of The Quad (Right) GL11.glTexCoord2f(0,1); GL11.glVertex3f( 1f,-1f,-1f); // Bottom Right Of The Quad (Right) //rquad+=0.0001f; glEnd(); glPopMatrix(); }catch(NullPointerException t){t.printStackTrace(); System.out.println("rendering block failed");} } Here is code that renders them: private void render() { GL11.glClear(GL11.GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT|GL11.GL_DEPTH_BUFFER_BIT); for(int y=0; y<32; y++){ for(int x=0; x<16; x++){ for(int z=0; z<16; z++) { b.renderBlock(x, y, z); } } } }

  • How to fire off a asych thread in a web application, and gaurantee only 1 thread fires?

    - by Blankman
    I want to cache a object in memory. Regenerating the object when the cache expires is fairly expensive, so I want to do the following: When the cache is "about" to expire, I want to fire off a asychronous thread that will go and rebuild the object and then reset the cache. One thing I am worry about is multiple threads firing to fetch the object to cache, I only want a single thread doing this, realizing many people will be hitting the website. This might not be the best use case to do this, but I want to know how to do this sort of thing.

  • package private static member class vs. package private class

    - by Helper Method
    I was writing two implementations of a linked list for an assignment, a doubly linked list and a circular doubly linked list. Now as the class representing a Link within the linked list is the same in both implementations, I want to use it in both. Now I wonder which approach would be better: Implement the Link class as a package private static member class in the first implementation and then use this class in the second implementation or make the Link class a package private class.

  • custom ListView --Null pointer exception

    - by raghs
    this code throws a Null pointer exception. It was thrown by getChildAt(i). The getCount() returns the number of items in listView. But getChildAt(i) returns only if item is present in current list view. For example in a scrollable list view assume that there are 20 items. The getCount() returns 20. But getChildAt(20) returns null. Because it doesnot fit in listview. How to solve this problem?? int i,j=object.getCount(); View v=getListView(); CheckBox chk=null; for(i=0;i<j;i++) { chk=((CheckBox)((ViewGroup) v).getChildAt(i).findViewById(R.id.checkBox1)); if(chk.isChecked()) { //download the contents to specific folder in sd card } }

  • Using intermediate array for hashCode and equals

    - by Basilevs
    As its a pain to handle structural changes of the class in two places I often do: class A { private B bChild; private C cChild; private Object[] structure() { return new Object[]{bChild, cChild}; } int hashCode() { Arrays.hashCode(structure); } boolean equals(Object that) { return Arrays.equals(this.structure(), ((A)that).structure()); } } What's bad about this approach besides boxing of primitives? Can it be improved?
