  • Will a search engine lower the rank of my page if i have hidden iframes?

    - by Skurpi
As a praxis, all external content on our site is put in iframes to lower the risks of any external parties injecting stuff to our users. We also do it to make sure our content shows up before banners, to make the site feel quicker. We now have an external script running which we want to put in an iframe, but it does not have any visible content to go with it so I want to put css "visibility: hidden;" on the iframe. I read in a forum somewhere that search engines will lower the rank of a page, or even drop the page, if a iframe has "the minimal size of 1x1px". Will a search engine lower the rank of my page if I have a hidden (or 1px big) iframe?

• NSURLErrorBadURL error

    - by Victor jiang
My iphone app called Google Local Search(non javascript version) to behave some search business. Below is my code to form a url: NSString *url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=%@", keyword]; NSMutableURLRequest *request = [[[NSMutableURLRequest alloc] init] autorelease]; [request setURL:[NSURL URLWithString:url]]; [request setHTTPMethod:@"GET"]; //get response NSHTTPURLResponse* urlResponse = nil; NSError *error = [[[NSError alloc] init] autorelease]; NSData *responseData = [NSURLConnection sendSynchronousRequest:request returningResponse:&urlResponse error:&error]; NSString *result = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:responseData encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; When the keyword refers to english characters, it works fine, but when refers to chinese characters(encoded in UTF8, such as '???' whose UTF8 code is 'e5a4a9 e5ae89 e997a8'), it will report NSURLErrorBadURL error(-1000, Returned when a URL is sufficiently malformed that a URL request cannot be initiated). Why? Then I carry out further investigation, I use Safari and type in the url below: http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=??? It also works, and the output I got from Macsniffer is: /ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=%E5%A4%A9%E5%AE%89%E9%97%A8 So I write a testing url directly in my app NSString *url = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=%E5%A4%A9%E5%AE%89%E9%97%A8"]; And what I got from the Macsniffer is some other thing: /ajax/services/search/local?v=1.0&q=1.687891E-28750X1.417C0001416CP-102640X1.4CC2D04648FBP-9999-1.989891E+0050X1.20DC00184CC67P-953E8E99A8 It seems my keyword "%E5%A4%A9%E5%AE%89%E9%97%A8" was translated into something else. So how can I form a valid url? I do need help!

  • Why MKMapView region is different than requested?

    - by Kamil
Greetings! I'm saving map region into user defaults when my iPhone app is closing like this: MKCoordinateRegion region = mapView.region; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.center.latitude forKey:@"map.location.center.latitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.center.longitude forKey:@"map.location.center.longitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.span.latitudeDelta forKey:@"map.location.span.latitude"]; [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] setDouble:region.span.longitudeDelta forKey:@"map.location.span.longitude"]; When app launches again, i read those values back the same way, so that the user can see exactly the same map view as it was last time: MKCoordinateRegion region; region.center.latitude = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.center.latitude"]; region.center.longitude = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.center.longitude"]; region.span.latitudeDelta = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.span.latitude"]; region.span.longitudeDelta = [[NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults] doubleForKey:@"map.location.span.longitude"]; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Region read : %f %f %f %f", region.center.latitude, region.center.longitude, region.span.latitudeDelta, region.span.longitudeDelta]); [mapView setRegion:region]; NSLog([NSString stringWithFormat:@"Region on map: %f %f %f %f", mapView.region.center.latitude, mapView.region.center.longitude, mapView.region.span.latitudeDelta, mapView.region.span.longitudeDelta]); The region I read from user defaults is (not surprisingly) exactly the same as when it was saved. Notice that what is saved comes directly from the map, so it's not transformed in any way. I set it back on map with setRegion: method, but then it is different! Example results: Region read : 50.241110 8.891555 0.035683 0.042915 Region on map: 50.241057 8.891544 0.050499 0.054932 Does anybody know why this happens?

  • Reference Error for property of Javascript Object

    - by Jeremy Petzold
I have built an object in Javascript on the Google Apps Script engine and every time I run my script I get a reference error saying uName is not defined. Here is the relivant code: function DataSet() { this.uName = ""; this.dFeild = ""; this.qUrl = "http://api.bfbcs.com/api/pc?players="+uName+"&fields="+dFeilds; this.data = ""; this.dQuery = dQuery; this.execQuery = execQuery; According to all sources I have found, I should not need to use the keyword var, and when I do include that, it throws other errors. What could be going on? Thanks

What tool can I use to get this stats? Should I position my website to what people search the most? What about competitors? Please give me some tips on whether I should have the title "music album" or "album search" , depending on number of keyword searches.

  • Where in the user profile are the Firefox search engine choices stored?

    - by N Rahl
We have a large number of user profiles that were created on Ubuntu 10.04 and they had access to Google as a choice in the search bar and Google was the provider for queries typed into the super bar. When logging into these same profiles from Mint 15 client machines, the Google search option does not exist for these users, as is the default for Mint. This setting seems to be user specific, but not a part of the FireFox profile? It seems if it were a part of the FF profile, it would "just work" on Mint for these profiles, so I suspect the configuration may be stored somewhere else in the user's profile? Could someone please tell me where in a user's profile the search engine options are set? We would like to set this once, and then drop this configuration into everyones profile so all of our users don't have to do this manually.

  • Is there any descent open-source search engine solutions?

    - by Nazariy
Few weeks ago my friend asked me how hard is it to launch your own search engine service with list of websites that suppose to be crawled time to time. First what come at my mind was Google Custom Search however pricing policy is quite tricky and would drain your budget if you reach 500K queries per year. Another solution I found here was SearchBlox, which can be compared to Google Mini service. It's quite good solution if you planing to cover search over small amount of websites but for larger projects it is not very handy. I also found few other search platforms like Lucene, Hadoop and Xapian which seems to be quite powerful solutions to reach Google search quality, and Nutch as a web crawler. As most of open-source projects they share same problem, luck of comprehensive guidance of usage, examples and it's expected that you are expert in this subject. I'm wondering if any of you using this solutions, which of them would you recommend, and what should I be aware of?

  • Iphone/Android app – chatroom development – what framework & hosting needs?

    - by MikaelW
I have some experience regarding IPhone and Android development but I am now struggling to solve a new class of problem: apps that involve a client/server chatroom feature. That is, an app when people can exchange text over the internet, and without having the app to constantly “pull” content from the server. So that problem can’t be solved with a normal php/mysql website, there must be some kind of application running on a server that is able to send message from the server to the phone, rather than having the phone to check for new messages every 10 seconds… So I’m looking for ways to solve the different problems here: What framework should I use on the two sides (phone / server)? It should be some kind of library that doesn’t prevent me to write paid apps. It should also be possible to have the same server for the Iphone and android version of the app. What server / hosting solution do I need with what sort of features, I just have no experience regarding server application that can handle and initiate multiple connections and are hosted on hardware that is always online I tried to find resources online but couldn’t so far, either the libraries had the wrong kind of license/language or I just didn’t understand… Sometimes there were nice tutorial but for different needs such as peer2peer chat over local network… Same with the server and the hosting problem, not sure where to start really, I’m calling for help and I promise I will complete this page with notes about the experience I will get :-) Obviously the ideal would be to find a tutorial I missed that include client code, server code and a free scalable server… That being said, If I see something as good, it probably means that I have eaten the wrong kind of mushroom again… So, failing that, any pointer which might help me toward that quest, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mikael

  • How to remove all associated files and configuration settings of an app installed through 'force architecture' command

    - by Mysterio
A few weeks ago I installed a 32 bit .deb file through the 'force architecture' command (on my 64bit notebook), however the procedure was unsuccessful and I used the apt-get purgecommand to uninstall the app. It seems there are some leftovers of the app I uninstalled which has now broken system update. Synaptic recommended a sudo apt-get install -fwhich I did in the terminal with this initial response: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required: libntfs10 Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them. The following packages will be REMOVED: crossplatformui 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 0 not upgraded. 1 not fully installed or removed. After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used. Do you want to continue [Y/n]? • How to force a page refresh or reload in jQuery?

    - by TimMac
The code below displays a google map and search results when you enter an address and hit the submit button. I've been playing with it to try and force the page to completely refresh or reload once you hit the submit button. But I can't get it to work right. It loads the results "in page," but I'd like the page to completely refresh when the results load, like when you hit the back button on your browser. Hope that makes sense. I think the answer lies in this line of code but I don't know jquery very well. It's near the bottom of the full code below. <script type="text/javascript"> (function($) { $(document).ready(function() { load();'; Here's the full code below. Any help would be greatly appreciated! <?php /* SimpleMap Plugin display-map.php: Displays the Google Map and search results */ $to_display = ''; if ($options['display_search'] == 'show') { $to_display .= ' <div id="map_search" style="width: '.$options['map_width'].';"> <a name="map_top"></a> <form onsubmit="searchLocations(\''.$categories.'\'); return false;" name="searchForm" id="searchForm" action="http://'.$_SERVER['SERVER_NAME'].$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'].'"> <input type="text" id="addressInput" name="addressInput" class="address" />&nbsp; <select name="radiusSelect" id="radiusSelect">'; $default_radius = $options['default_radius']; unset($selected_radius); $selected_radius[$default_radius] = ' selected="selected"'; foreach ($search_radii as $value) { $r = (int)$value; $to_display .= '<option valu e="'.$value.'"'.$selected_radius[$r].'>'.$value.'
