  • Creating SQL Server index on a nvarchar column

    - by Jahan
    When I run this SQL statement: CREATE UNIQUE INDEX WordsIndex ON Words (Word ASC); I get the following exception message: The CREATE UNIQUE INDEX statement terminated because a duplicate key was found for the object name 'dbo.Words' and the index name 'WordsIndex'. The duplicate key value is (ass). The statement has been terminated. The 'Word' column has a datatype of nvarchar(100). There are two items in the 'Word' column that SQL Server interprets as the same: 'aß' and 'ass', which causes the indexing failure. Why would SQL Server interpret those two different words as the same word?

  • PHP / MySQL - How to retrieve 2 separate sets of objects?

    - by Dan
    Hi, I have a set of models which correspond to tables in my database. I have been retrieving them easily enough, for example. $result = $mysqli->query('SOME SQL'); $post = $result->fetch_object; What would be the best approach for performing a join and also returning the related objects? For example, each post is created by a user, so for each row returned in the joined statement, both a page and user object should be returned. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

  • Understanding the workings of equals and hashCode in a HashMap

    - by andandandand
    I have this test code: import java.util.*; class MapEQ { public static void main(String[] args) { Map<ToDos, String> m = new HashMap<ToDos, String>(); ToDos t1 = new ToDos("Monday"); ToDos t2 = new ToDos("Monday"); ToDos t3 = new ToDos("Tuesday"); m.put(t1, "doLaundry"); m.put(t2, "payBills"); m.put(t3, "cleanAttic"); System.out.println(m.size()); } } class ToDos{ String day; ToDos(String d) { day = d; } public boolean equals(Object o) { return ((ToDos)o).day == this.day; } // public int hashCode() { return 9; } } When // public int hashCode() { return 9; } is uncommented m.size() returns 2, when it's left commented it returns three. Why?

  • VB.NET - ASP.NET - MS-Access - SQL Statement

    - by Brian
    I have a button which when pressed, sets the user's rights in the db. (If Administrator UserTypeID is set to '2' and if Customer it is set to '1'). However when I run the below code, everything remains the same. I think it's from the SQL statement but I;m not sure. Can anyone help please? Protected Sub btnSetUser_Click(sender As Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSetUser.Click Dim conn As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=C:\Users\Brian\Documents\Visual Studio 2010\WebSites\WebSite3\db.mdb;") Dim cmd As OleDbCommand = New OleDbCommand("UPDATE [User] SET [UserTypeID] WHERE Username=?", conn) conn.Open() cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Username", txtUser.Text) If ddUserType.SelectedItem.Text = "Administrator" Then cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@UserTypeID", "2") cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() lblSetUser.Text = txtUser.Text + "was set to Administrator." • On reference_wrapper and callable objects

    - by Nicola Bonelli
    Given the following callable object: struct callable : public std::unary_function &lt;void, void&gt; { void operator()() const { std::cout << "hello world" << std::endl; } }; a std::tr1::reference_wrapper< calls through it: callable obj; std::tr1::ref(obj)(); Instead, when the operator() accepts an argument: struct callable : public std::unary_function &lt;int, void&gt; { void operator()(int n) const { std::cout << n << std::endl; } }; std::tr1::bind accepts a reference_wrapper to it as a callable wrapper... callable obj; std::tr1::bind( std::tr1::ref(obj), 42 )(); but what's wrong with this? std::tr1::ref(obj)(42);

  • Deleting objects through foreign key relationship with T-SQL query

    - by LaserBeak
    Looking for a way to write the following LinQ to entities query as a T-SQL statement. repository.ProductShells.Where(x => x.ShellMembers.Any(sm => sm.ProductID == pid)).ToList().ForEach(x => repository.ProductShells.Remove(x)); The below is obviously not correct but I need it to delete respective ProductShell object where any ShellMember contains a ProductID equal to the passed in variable pid. I would presume this would involve a join statement to get the relevant ShellMembers. repository.Database.ExecuteSqlCommand("FROM Shellmembers WHERE ProductID={0} DELETE FK_ProductShell", pid); I have cascade delete enabled for the FK_ShellMembers_ProductShells foreign key, so when I delete the ProductShell it will delete all the ShellMembers that are associated with it. I am going to pass this statement to System.Data.Entity Database.ExecuteSqlCommand method.

  • Binding dropdown list in a gridview edit item template

    - by Renju
    i can bind the dropdownlist in the edit item template. The drop down list is having null values. protected void grdDevelopment_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { DropDownList drpBuildServers = new DropDownList(); if (grdDevelopment.EditIndex == e.Row.RowIndex) { drpBuildServers = (DropDownList)e.Row.Cells[0].FindControl("ddlBuildServers"); } } also getting an error Failed to load viewstate. The control tree into which viewstate is being loaded must match the control tree that was used to save viewstate during the previous request. For example, when adding controls dynamically, the controls added during a post-back must match the type and position of the controls added during the initial request.

  • In OpenRasta is it possible to Pattern match multiple key/value pairs?

    - by Scott Littlewood
    Is it possible in OpenRasta to have a Uri pattern that allows for an array of values of the same key to be submitted and mapped to a handler method accepting an array of the query parameters. Example: Return all the contacts named Dave Smith from a collection. HTTP GET /contacts?filterBy=first&filterValue=Dave&filterBy=last&filterValue=Smith With a configuration of: What syntax would be best for the Uri string pattern matching? (Suggestions welcome) ResourceSpace.Has.ResourcesOfType<List<ContactResource>>() .AtUri("/contacts") .And.AtUri("/contacts?filterBy[]={filterBy}[]&filterValue[]={fv}[]") // Option 1 .And.AtUri("/contacts?filterBy={filterBy}[]&fv={fv}[]") // Option 2 Would map to a Handler method of: public object Get(params Filter[] filters) { /* create a Linq Expression based on the filters using dynamic linq query the repository using the Linq */ return Query.All<Contact>().Where(c => c.First == "Dave" && c.Last == "Smith").ToResource() } where Filter is defined by public class Filter { public string FilterBy { get; set; } public string FilterValue { get; set; } }

  • difference in logging mechanism: API and application(python)

    - by zubin71
    I am currently writing an API and an application which uses the API. I have gotten suggestions from people stating that I should perform logging using handlers in the application and use a "logger" object for logging from the API. In light of the advice I received above, is the following implementation correct? class test: def __init__(self, verbose): self.logger = logging.getLogger("test") self.logger.setLevel(verbose) def do_something(self): # do something self.logger.log("something") # by doing this i get the error message "No handlers could be found for logger "test" The implementation i had in mind was as follows: #!/usr/bin/python """ .... .... create a logger with a handler .... .... """ myobject = test() try: myobject.do_something() except SomeError: logger.log("cant do something") Id like to get my basics strong, id be grateful for any help and suggestions for code you might recommend I look up. Thnkx!

  • Is SynchronizationContext.Post() threadsafe?

    - by cyclotis04
    This is a pretty basic question, and I imagine that it is, but I can't find any definitive answer. Is SynchronizationContext.Post() threadsafe? I have a member variable which holds the main thread's context, and _context.Post() is being called from multiple threads. I imagine that Post() could be called simultaneously on the object. Should I do something like lock (_contextLock) _context.Post(myDelegate, myEventArgs); or is that unnecessary? Edit: MSDN states that "Any instance members are not guaranteed to be thread safe." Should I keep my lock(), then?

  • Is unit testing the definition of an interface necessary?

    - by HackedByChinese
    I have occasionally heard or read about people asserting their interfaces in a unit test. I don't mean mocking an interface for use in another type's test, but specifically creating a test to accompany the interface. Consider this ultra-lame and off-the-cuff example: public interface IDoSomething { string DoSomething(); } and the test: [TestFixture] public class IDoSomethingTests { [Test] public void DoSomething_Should_Return_Value() { var mock = new Mock<IDoSomething>(); var actualValue = mock.Expect(m => m.DoSomething()).Returns("value"); mock.Object.DoSomething(); mock.Verify(m => DoSomething()); Assert.AreEqual("value", actualValue); } } I suppose the idea is to use the test to drive the design of the interface and also to provide guidance for implementors on what's expected so they can draw good tests of their own. Is this a common (recommended) practice?

  • Defining a dd/mm/yyyy field within an abstract table model

    - by Simon Andi
    I have defined an abstract table model but one of the columns should house date values as dd/mm/yyyy format not sure how to do this. I have a external global file and have hard coded the dates as dd/mm/yyyy. How can I define this column within my abstract table model so that to only allow only dates having dd/mm/yyyy format. public class OptraderGlobalParameters { public static boolean DEBUG = true; //Set DEBUG = true for Debugging /*=========================*/ /*Table Array For Dividends*/ /*=========================*/ public static String[] columnNames = {"Date", "Dividend", "Actual", "Yield (%)" }; public static Object[][] data = { {"dd/mm/yyyy", new Double(5), new Boolean(false), new Boolean(false)}, {"dd/mm/yyyy", new Double(5), new Boolean(false), new Boolean(false)}, {"dd/mm/yyyy", new Double(5), new Boolean(false), new Boolean(false)}, {"dd/mm/yyyy", new Double(5), new Boolean(false), new Boolean(false)}, {"dd/mm/yyyy", new Double(5), new Boolean(false), new Boolean(false)}, }; }

  • Is it better to use List or Collection?

    - by Vivin Paliath
    I have an object that stores some data in a list. The implementation could change later, and I don't want to expose the internal implementation to the end user. However, the user must have the ability to modify and access this collection of data. Currently I have something like this: public List<SomeDataType> getData() { return this.data; } public void setData(List<SomeDataType> data) { this.data = data; } Does this mean that I have allowed the internal implementation details to leak out? Should I be doing this instead? public Collection<SomeDataType> getData() { return this.data; } public void setData(Collection<SomeDataType> data) { this.data = new ArrayList<SomeDataType>(data); }

  • In ASP.NET MVC, why can't I inherit from "MyCustomView" without specifying the full type name?

    - by Seth Petry-Johnson
    In my MVC apps I normally declare a base view type that all of my views inherit from. I get a parser error when I specify Inherits="MyView" in my Page declaration, but not if I specify Inherits="MyApp.Web.Views.MyView". Strangely enough, it also works fine if I specify Inherits="MyView<T> (where T is any valid type). Why can I specify a strongly typed view without the full type name, but not a generic view? My base view class is declared like this: namespace MyApp.Web.Views { public class MyView : MyView<object> { } public class MyView<TModel> : ViewPage<TModel> where TModel : class { } }

  • Centralized Credentials Service For Various Apps

    - by Vlad
    We are researching the possibility to build a centralized credentials storage for internal applications. These apps (vb6, vb.net, web apps in asp.net, etc) are using various instances of SQL servers and iSeries. We want to implement a central credentials facility that would act as a security broker. Basically it should work like this: Client app supplies AppID (I am Sales Application) and EnvironmentID (I am running in QA environment) and in return will get either a connection object (preferred) or encrypted connection string that will allow said application to connect to resources it needs. There will be cases when application needs to connect to two (or more) database resources (i.e. to SQL and iSeries). What are looking at DP API at the moment, but I am not convinced that DP API is the solution as it tied in with machine key. In our case using machine key isn't feasible, so I want to know if there are other approaches available.

  • Cinema4D XML scene not rendering texture

    - by George Profenza
    I was playing with the Cinema 4D command line options and ran into a problem that might not be specific to the command line options. I saved a basic scene(a textured cube) in two formats: the original .c4d(binary) format and .xml(Cinema 4D XML via File Export). the .c4d file renders with the texture applied, while the .xml file renders without the texture applied. I had a look at the xml file, and there is a node that holds a reference to the image used as texture, and there is another node which seems to store the pixels in xml. When I opened the .xml document in Cinema 4D, the document did store the material with the texture, but it was not applied to the object. Am I missing something when I export to XML ? How can I export a Cinema 4D XML that can render with the texture applied ?

  • Java generics: What is the compiler's issue here? ("no unique maximal instance")

  • what pattern to use for multi-argument method?

    - by Omid S
    I have a method with the following signature: foo (Sample sample, Aliquot aliquot) "foo" needs to alter a Sample object, either the first argument or from the second argument it can extract its Sample. For example: foo (Sample sample, Aliquot aliquot) { Sample out = null; if (sample != null) out = sample else out = aliquot.getSample() return out; } But that is so un-elegant, other than reading the API a developer does not know the reference of the first argument overrides the Sample of the second argument. Now, I could change "foo" to foo (SomeMagicalObject bar) where SomeMagicalObject is a tuple for Sample and Aliquot and holds some logic ... etc. But I am wondering, are there some patterns for this question?

  • How to implement ASP.NET membership provider in my domain model

    - by Kjensen
    In a website, I need to integrate membership and authentication. So I want to use the functionality of ASP.NET Membership, but I have other custom stuff, that a "user" has to do. So I am sitting here with my pencil and paper, drawing lines for my domain model... And how can I best utilize the ASP.Net membership, but extend it to fill my needs? Should I create a class that inherits from a MembershipUser and extend it with my own properties and methods (and save this in a seperate table). Or should I let the MembershipUser be a property on my custom User/Client object? What would be a good solid way to do this?

  • Is there a general concrete implementation of a KeyedCollection?

    - by CodeSavvyGeek
    The System.Collections.ObjectModel.KeyedCollection class is a very useful alternative to System.Collections.Generic.Dictionary, especially when the key data is part of the object being stored or you want to be able to enumerate the items in order. Unfortunately, the class is abstract, and I am unable to find a general concrete implementation in the core .NET framework. The Framework Design Guidlines book indicates that a concrete implementation should be provided for abstract types (section 4.4 Abstract Class Design). Why would the framework designers leave out a general concrete implementation of such a useful class, especially when it could be provided by simply exposing a constructor that accepts and stores a Converter from the item to its key: public class ConcreteKeyedCollection : KeyedCollection { private Converter getKeyForItem = null; public GenericKeyedCollection(Converter getKeyForItem) { if (getKeyForItem == null) { throw new ArgumentNullException("getKeyForItem"); } this.getKeyForItem = getKeyForItem; } protected override TKey GetKeyForItem(TItem item) { return this.getKeyForItem(item); } }
