• Android app with library can't find the library.apk

  I'm trying to get the FinchVideo example from the Programming Android book to work. It uses the FinchWelcome library. I've set up FinchWelcome as a Library and in the FinchVideo application I have checked the FinchWelcome library in Properties - Android. When I try to run FinchVideo in the emulator it complains that it cannot find FinchWelcome.apk (output below). I'm building for Android 4.0.3. While Googling for this problem I've found that a lot of people have this problem with Android apps that use libraries. No one seems to have found a solution that works consistently, though. None of the Android books I've seen even talk about how to download libraries. What is the proper way to handle libraries in Android applications? Is this a bug in the Eclipse ADT? Thanks. • Move and rename file in android

  I am trying to copy a file to another folder in the android, but so far, i got no success. I manage to do so with a selected image and when taking a photo, but not with files. I've read and tried several solutions passed by the community (searched over the forum and the internet), but none of it was able to solve my problem when copying. First things first. I added the permissions to my manifest: <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" /> after that, before copying a file, i print its filepath and the directory file path: 06-10 11:11:11.700: I/System.out(1442): /mimetype/storage/sdcard/Misc/Javascript erros for Submit and Plan buttons in IE.doc 06-10 11:11:11.710: I/System.out(1442): /storage/sdcard/mywfm/checklist-files both exists: to copy the file to the expected folder I used the FileUtils: try { FileUtils.copyFile(selectedFile, dir); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } The problem is: I get no exception and the file isn't there. • Are there any advantages of GO Widgets over vanilla Android Widgets

  I use a suite of GO programs on my Android 4.1.2 device. Most relevant to this question, I've installed the GO Launcher EX and GO Weather, and they've recently given me the choice of one paid Go Weather Widget skin for free. Here, my conundrum lies: The skin I want comes in two versions: one for the GO Widget (can only be used on GO Launcher EX) and one for the vanilla Android widget. Are there any advantages for me choosing the GO Widget? I'm thinking things like increased performance because it'd be better integrated into the GO ecosystem, or more options, or something along these lines.

• mime-attachment incompatibility on forwarded messages from android to an iphone

  A couple of guys got the evo android in the office. I got an iphone. When I receive a forwarded email from one of those phones, the forwarded piece comes as a mime-attachment that the iphone cannot open. I also tried this with a motorola droid and got the same result. I am not sure if the issue is the android sending the message on the wrong format or the iphone not being able to understand a mime type that it should... Has anyone experienced this, and, most importantly, found a fix/workaround? Thanks.

(I've been waiting for the Desire or Nexus One, but after seeing spec sheets and reviews, HTC Incredible comes out ahead anyway). • Android Jelly Bean: fix search button [migrated]

  I just upgraded my Nexus S from Android 4.0.something (I forget the subversion) to Android 4.1.1. The magnifying glass button used to be really useful -- it would trigger a search function within whatever app I was using. For example pressing it within the Maps app would search for a place, or pressing it within the Facebook app would search for a friend. But now, the magnifying glass button launches a google search no matter what the context is! This is extremely annoying and makes a lot of apps harder to use, especially Maps. How can I use a setting or a patch to revert the magnifying glass button to its old behavior?

  I'm a Blackberry fan and I have been aching to get a phone with a better UI (and not the jesusPhone). I was looking at the Android platform and find it quite fun to play with. However, one of the crucial elements of my BB that I love to death is the global inbox of all my email accounts. (not to mention the BB messenger, but I can live without that). Is there an addon or does the android have this feature natively? I played with my friend's Verizon Droid, and she couldn't tell me. Thanks!

• Running Android emulator inside a Virtualbox Vm

  I'm trying to setup a VM with a complete android development stack (SDK, Platforms, Eclipse etc) for a Hackathon. I'm having real trouble getting the emulator to start in the VM. I realize that the emulator is essentially a VM itself inside the Vbox VM and so is going to be slow, but it just hangs at the Android splash screen and never gets any further. Might there be something going on with the VM that is causing it to run so very slowly? Is there anything I can do to give the VM more CPU? I've tried setting the execution cap to 100% but it didn't help any. Anyone know what might be going on here, or have any ideas about how I might speed it up? Thanks Steve.

  Working on Windows 7 platform, I'm interested in creating an app that could run on Android devices (phone or tablet), IOS devices (iPhone, iPad), and the web. First target would be Android. Do you remember those old Arthur Murray footstep diagrams to teach dancing? I want to do the same thing, but animate the steps, so the user can play them all, as well as step forward or backward thru them at their own pace. Perhaps one could generate an animated GIF and then play it on the platform. So there would seem to be two parts to this: 1) A good way to generate the animation images. I can, for example, see using SketchUp - something I know - for this. But is there something better it would be worth investing in? And, 2) How to play the result, including options for playback speed control, and even forward/backward stepping? Ideally a single, or easily adaptable player to the three different OS platforms.

• Unable to connect to wireless internet(wifi) through KDE plasma desktop

  I installed the KDE plasma desktop through Ubuntu software center. I am on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. After the install, Im unable to connect to my wifi connection in the KDE session. But I can connect to my wifi perfectly through GNOME session. I've tried a lot without much success. Also KDE doesn't store my password correctly and keeps prompting for authorization again and again. Some of the things that I noticed. Network is detected, Network name and strength is also displayed. Other characteristics also appear properly. When the credentials are supplied, it accepts them and continually displays the message "Setting network address". However this process never succeeds. At this stage the password is repeatedly asked many times but the connection is never established. Some of the other things that I did, I have also tried other things like restarting my modem and the computer. That didn't work. I tried to restart nm-applet and KNetworkManager. That didn't work either. ifconfig display all my interfaces and Mac addresses correctly. Since its working fine GNOME the drivers are fine. This is sure a KDE specific issue. Other threads related to this on the interwebs don't offer much information either. Please share a solution for this.

• What can I do about rsync of large files killing my laptop's wifi connection

  When I run a rsync to backup my home folder over the network like so: rsync -avhz --progress --delete /home/dbdean/ [email protected]:/home/backups/david/ I seem to have problems with my quite large .VirtualBox/HardDisks/Windows XP.vdi file. Occasionally the wifi will silently fail (the transfer stops, and any other network access is broken). If I reconnect the wifi to my network before the transfer times out, it happily keeps going (and other network access is back), but I can't just leave it unattended most of the time, as I have to keep an eye on it. I'm guessing this is probably a bug in the wireless card related to a particularly high sustained volume of network usage, but I'm not really sure where to start with diagnosing this problem so that I can provide a good bug report. Or it could be something else, I guess. Any help would be appreciated. My network card is an Atheros Communications Inc.   I believe i have tried every trick in the book ! I am able to access my router from my ubuntu desktop but not even a single site on the internet. i have installed the drivers for my pci wifi card following this procedure : http://steveswinsburg.wordpress.com/2011/03/12/how-to-install-a-d-link-dwa-525-wireless-network-card-in-ubuntu-10-04/ Earlier it didn't connect to the internet and kept prompting me for the password. after i installed the driver it got connected ! but now i cant access the internet and can only access my router. i deleted the resolv.conf file. I have also tried the "rkill" command and it shows it is unlocked. I have even tried pinging the ip's 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 and i get replies from both. I have also added them on my wifi configuration setup on ubuntu desktop. I am new to ubuntu but learning fast :-) These are the things i don't like about ubuntu, the simple tasks are difficult for a person coming from windows. I am using ubuntu 12.10. please reply at the earliest i would be very thankful.

• Wifi not working on Acer Aspire One D270

  brand new baby linux user here, never used Ubuntu or any other linux OS before, so be gentle and use short words! I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my new Acer Aspire One D270-F61C/KF netbook (it's a Japanese computer which had Japanese windows preinstalled, and I decided to take the plunge and try Ubuntu because English Windows costs the earth and stars). Wifi isn't working; I enter my wireless password, it tries to connect for a while, then asks for my password again. And KEEPS ASKING, every few minutes. Wired connection works fine. Wireless card is a Broadcom BCM4313; I have the "additional drivers" checked and installed (I tried unchecking and then reinstalling them in case that would help, no joy, and now my home wifi connection isn't showing up in the list of available connections, argh). I've done a lot of googling and I gather there's a lot of issues with Broadcom cards, but some of the answers are for earlier ubuntu builds and many of them are a bit confusing for a new user. I gather I need to try installing some new drivers other than the proprietary ones provided, but I'm having trouble figuring out how that's done. Anyone got some simple, step by step instructions for me? Please bear in mind, TOTAL N00B. (EDIT): OKAY, got it fixed finally; after suggestions on the Ubuntu forums and messing around with drivers, what finally worked was installing Wicd. Not... using Wicd, for some reason, just installing it fixed it. ...I CHOOSE NOT TO QUESTION IT.

• Why does Ubuntu keep trying to connect to a WiFi network while plugged into an ethernet

  My desk is situated at the edge of the range of a wireless signal which I use occasionally (when away from my desk) and is therefore saved in network manager. At my desk, however, I plug into the ethernet cable. While I'm working the computer is constantly trying to join the wireless network and usually failing this results in two annoying behaviors. 1: In gnome shell the network connect and disconnect notices keep popping up at the bottom of the screen and I have to click them to make them disappear (I assume it's been fixed in the next version of gnome). 2: (the worst!) Occasionally the wifi password dialog will pop up and ask for the password to this network (which is already saved). An additionally annoyance is that in gnome shell I'll get two copies of the dialog that I have to cancel, one is gnome shell themed (no window border etc...) and the other is just normal gnome themed. (Sometimes if I've been away from the computer for a while I will have multiple copies of this dialog up as its been trying to connect for a while resulting in at times 20 dialogs to cancel). Note, all the while I've been happily connected to the ethernet and have full network access. This is incredibly annoying and distracting, why doesn't ubuntu stop trying to connect to wifi if I'm on the ethernet (unless I want to broadcast my own network, but that's different)?

• Can't connect to or see my wifi ssid

  Today I installed ubuntu 12.04 on my laptop. I am unable to see my home SSID or even connect to it. I've tried to connect as a hidden SSID but I always get prompted for authorization although my key is correct. I'm in in Europe but my laptop is from US. I'm not sure if that is relevant. I've read around this site and saw something that has to do with setting the channel above 11. I'm not sure I did that correctly I did this : How to use Wi-Fi channels above 11? Did't help. I'm able to connect with cable but not via wifi either windows or linux. Other devices in my home can connect without any issues, even the kindle. • ubuntu 12.10 Lenovo b570e, WiFi connected but not working

  I'm running ubuntu 12.10 liveUSB on a lenovo b570e. It has an atheros wifi card that connects with my home network but I can't browse AT ALL. My network is multiple clients --> router --> isp modem --> Internet I can ping my router (192.168.0.1) but not my isp's modem(192.168.15.1). I have 3 other computers connected to the same router that are working fine (infact i'm posting from one) ping -c 3 google.com unknown host google.com ping -c 3 8.8.8.8 shows 100% packet loss I think its some networking issue. I tried directly connecting it to the router via ethernet cable but same issue. It gets an ip, shows LAN connected but can't browse. If I connect it directly to the isp modem via ethernet cable it starts working fine. Connection Information shows: Interface: 802.11 wifi (wlan0) driver: ath9k security: wpa/wpa2 speed: 150mb/s ip: 192.168.0.106 broadcast: 192.168.0.255 subnet:255.255.255.0 default route: 192.168.0.1 primary dns: 192.168.15.1 i have restarted the router and modem many times. • Wifi doesn't connect if I'm upstairs

  Hello there, I'm finding that Wifi connects when I'm in the living room, where the internet router etc is. But if I try to connect upstairs it is a no go. Booting in Windows 7 (dual boot :D ) I find that Wifi connects. I find this very confusing and have it since the install. Please help! • Wifi won't connect to certain networks

  As I write this, I'm in a coffee shop on my laptop, and I am trying to connect to the free wifi network they offer. Every time I select their network from the wifi applet drop down menu, it connects for a second and then disconnects. At the same time, I have my Android phone with me, and it connects to the coffee shop's network without problem. There are a couple of people around me also using the same network with no issues. I asked the staff to check and as far as they can tell there is no problem with their router or anything. I have tried rebooting, but it has not made a difference. I have double and triple checked that I am using the correct WEP password. As an added wrinkle, when I connect to another network, it seems to connect (although I can't use them because they are paid gateway services). So I'm able to ask this question now because I have tethered my laptop to my phone, but it's slow and a workaround, not a solution. All indications are that it's a problem with my computer against this one network. Why would that be and how can I fix it?
